After looking at QuotationsBook.com for the first time, here is my initial review of the service:
The Start Page

Most of the suggestions above are more opinions than concrete problems, but some of the things I believe are important. The start page should probably try and fit without a scrollbar. I feel that the user would rather click through than scroll down on the first page. The page should provide a graphical and information rich description and navigation of the site, but most of the content should be under that page.
I think the navigation should be consolidated into several categories (with different formatting for the various types). For instance, About, Press, Stuff, and Forum all seem like site related things rather than user related things (possibly with the exception of Forum). The user related things should probably be more prevalent than these options, People and Subjects should be at the forefront. The invite link might only be shown to registered users. Also, I think the login form should be removed unless needed. Have a button that uses Javascript to pull in the form rather than keeping it on the page all the time (thus freeing up room for more content as well).
The Search Page

The search page looks like every other page on the site, which seems weird to me, because it doesn't really seem to allow for a large number of results on a single page. Also, the search doesn't allow much way of sorting quotes (date submitted, date of the quote, source).
The Quote Page

The quote page (and most of the rest of the site, other than the Front Page) seems to use a lot of the same colors and fonts without much to separate the sections. The extra information about the quote is a nice addition and the additional related quotes are nice for users who aren't sure what they want (or simply what to find interesting material related to the quote).
That's the design portion of the review. I'll continue on with a more concrete review of usage and content details in a bit. Since that's what you really need anyway, real world usage ; )
Thanks so much for your great notes! I was away on holiday, and just returned. Our next release now has fewer links on the main menu, and ads in between search results redone
Keep it coming it if you have any more opinions
Warm wishes
Amit
