Plazes connects you to the people, Plazes, and events around you. With Plazes you will never miss the opportunity for a spontaneous meet-up.
There are many different ways for you to use Plazes: You can use it to share your current location and activities or your favorite hangouts with others or to find out where your friends are. Or use it to keep track of all the cool Plazes, activities and people in your life. It's up to you to decide how to use Plazes.
All that and the fact that it does not cost you anything is why we think you should use Plazes. So why not go ahead and give it a try!
I use Plazes to see where my friends are, if they are close by I can ping them to meet up. I can see if they are available/online and also what they are doing right now (like Twitter). I had a lot of great meetups with known folks "Hey, you are in Cologne? Let's meet up" or even strangers "You are in the Hilton lobby too? Where do you sit?". I can keep track of Plazes and addresses where I have been (so called Traze), add pictures to it (see example) and can discover new ones in my area, like cool coffee shops or restaurants or hotels (like Yelp). Check it out ...
This is interesting.... Not sure if I'd ever use it, but interesting nonetheless.
The site looks pretty good - clear presentation and not too crowded
I'm not sure the link between groups and plazes though...
It makes sense if it is a group of my friends, but I had a look at the Stephen Fry group, and I can't understand why I'd join it and broadcast where I am.
It'd make more sense if it was centred around an event or people I know is all...
Why would I use Plazes over Twitter?
I like the idea of it all, but it seems a bit confusing how all the connections work between friends and groups. I like the look of the homepage though, really caught my eye.
Twitter has no geo-awareness and doesn't keep track of your Plazes. Plazes saves a track on where you have been, so you and your friends can remember and discover old and new places. You friends know where you are whenever you want them to know about it (checking in at a plaze).
Groups simply unite many different plazes of a certain interest like "Design Hotels" or local area like "Mountain View", this is like an insider guide. With Plazes SMS you can check in to Plazes with your mobile, you can check where your friends are, search for cool plazes in your area and even get the address and distance to a certain plaze you are looking for.
Many of my friends work close by at Google or Mozilla and stuff, we have common lunch locations in this area, so when I go for lunch I check in at a Plaze like "Chipotle" and they know that I'm there and can join me if they want to.
I usually add the full address to all my Plazes, so later on I can easily find that Plaze again and Google maps is integrated in Plazes anyways.
Ah okay.... thanks netzkobold!
I have a very small circle of friends that keeps in touch every 1.323 years (+_- 30 days). Somebody picks up a phone or sends an email and all is right in the universe for another 1.323 years. I do not have a use for this service. I will say that Plazes is not a new service/program/idea. They've been around for awhile.
thanks
