Networking for ppl who hate networking
Comments? Advice? (I'm one of those ppl who hates small-talk)![]()

Nice links dekrazee...didn't seem to be anything there on the 2nd one though?
Oh? it works for me *confused*
Let's try this?
LinkedIn is a funny one. I check it every week. But I'm not sure I use it for networking as LinkedIn probably intend you to. I'v never really grasped this ability (?) of LinkedIn. I suppose I tend to use it more as a good update tool, keeping abreast of where and when my contacts and others are moving. Not as a tool to 'find' new contacts.
I agree. LinkedIn works as a network, but I feel it could do a lot more.
One thought I had was to better promote things people are after, so I can easily see if I can help.
Like a "I'm currently looking for X resource"...or "X advice" etc? That would be pretty good for LinkedIn.
Maybe we should also start a "W.H.Y resource" and "I'm in need of X resource" group on here?
That's a really good idea... business focus?
G'day World - Using Linked-In as a business tool
'Business Focus' for the group? I would say Business Focus_Offered (offer your resources, linkedin info, website portfolio etc) & Business Focus_Wanted (what resources you are currently seeking)
I would suggest that Topics are kept to a format too - perhaps at least starting with City name?
?
Good link dekrazee....sounds like Stan is totally emersed in LinkedIn...more than likely due to his career though. Still...sounds like a good person to know.
Thanks Ian
You're the only one who appreciates my links
Does anyone use xing formerly openbc?
no. not sure I see it as being any different to linked in.
That exactly what I said when I saw it. It's a complete rip of LinkedIn
"Like a "I'm currently looking for X resource"...or "X advice" etc? That would be pretty good for LinkedIn."
they have something similar with teh 'Answers' section, I get tons of questions every day, people looking for whatever or just need something. infact some people are so noisy i regret adding them to my network
xing is more euro-centric. go linkedin
I was part of a focus session on "networking" at my firm (big four accounting - networking is the core fo our business) and an interesting theme which I completely agree with came up.
when they ask what stops us from networking, was that on the one hand there is no time, but that's not the issue - it's also the "quality". Networking is about keeping "warm" that relationship you created. In retrospect, that's why I love facebook - I can keep in touch and keep the relationship "warm" with a quick message here and there, but at the same time it doesn't take too much effort
Networking is not just about meeting; it just as important about maintaining.
