  • Why do they do what they do?

Dekrazee -  I think that places give "freebies" because people like getting things in return for their donations - instant gradification so to speak.  Also, if you receive "address" labels right off the bat you feel more compelled to donate money.  As far as the children go - a 12 or 13 year old is not as cute as a newborn to 11 year old.  Also, they will "switch" your child for continued support - you are not supporting that one child - you are supporting a cause basically.

  • Why donate?

We have been doing the charity thing for as long as I can remember - my parents did the Catholic Charity and I started donating to the American Cancer Society back in my early 20's (so 20+ years ago).  I added charities as I was able to = I think that we should help our fellow beings that is why I do it.

  • Giver of a couple of Charities

I support the National Cancer Society, Diabetics Foundation, Veterans Administration, Catholic Charities (soup kitchen, homeless, etc....), Share for Care (homeless food donations) and of course local groups - Police, Firemen, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, local Animal Rescue (for large cats).  I say if you can give - no amount is too small.  I also adopt a family from Thanksgiving through Easter - every year I pick a different family and send Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, and Easter dinner to them along with gifts for the family and gift certificates for the grocery store.    I also try to attend local fundraising events to help other causes.
