What does everyone think about the United Nations now?
I'm not sure if it has changed or not, but when I first read the United Nations Charter , it felt very passive. I felt it was aiming for 'tolerance' and not something better like cooperation and, dare I say it, synergy. As I re-read it now, it seems better, and the Charter of Human rights is pretty good, but the key thing is how it's actioned. Anyone can write a document.
I just don't know where to start on that one Mick. Let me come back to it another day.
I met a Danish mum when I was in Thailand and she said she worked for the UN. She was in the comms area. She was very passionate about the work being done by the agencies she promoted. They were promoting concepts like harmony etc... and were visiting schools in Copenhagen. She was pleased because young students were responding to the work they were doing.
I think all things start with good intentions. Whether they lose sight is another matter. I think with the UN I would need to look at individual cases or programs and then comment on those.
Huge topic!
Maybe it's more convenient to watch this film.
It's called: The Future of the U.N.
or this one, called The UN Deception
