Will Marketers kill Facebooks popularity?
Marketers will generally follow and bleed dry any new medium that is open, but Facebook is only semi open. Users will still decide if something is worth adding as an application and all apps must follow rules and be accepted.
However, the bigger it get's the harder it is to weild. We shall see.

I have a particular pen I like but I can't find it anywhere....
So I googled it. And found the web site.

Wow, talk about working hard to make pens sexy. I like it.

Is second life a place for business (other than porn that is)?
The question is about what return and over what time period.
Will you get measurable increases in sales this quarter? No.
Will you get an increase in loyalty and a decrease in customer acquisition costs over 3 years leading to an increased life time customer value? Yes, you may.
Do most companies have this sort of paitence? No. Not normally.

I've marvelled at how some companies really do well in mixing offline events and activities with online stuff and then following up offline. Even sending something in the mail is a big 'connector'.
http://www.moo.com is a great example. Sure, they bought me free drinks at their party and gave me toys, but that's not just it.

Banner ads can work, but it depends on what you want to do - as always.
If you want low click through of poorly qualified leads and a tiny bit of branding, then banners are fine.
Otherwise, look elsewhere.
