Plaxo, on the new version of their service, offers a public profile, in which, if you choose a "Plaxo Nickname" all of your contact information will be available for all the world to see. cf: Plaxo public profile
Now I was wondering if people were so trusting that they would opt-in this kind of thing. Even in a world of virtual communities galore, and creation of digital identity, would you want a website you use to broadcast your info?? It seems to me that just offering to put a link to your email online is like calling spam robots to "Come here, take her email, spam the heck out of her".
What do you think? Would you allow your personal info to be visible publicly?

I agree with that... I have my phone number public on Facebook for exemple. However, my email adress is always private. When Plaxo asked if I wanted a public profile, I figured it was for work experience and such... not for my personal email. If I were a company, and someone wanted to make their email adress public, I wouldn't let them, considering the danger of spam. It's automatic. Your email's public, you get spam (I'm talking from experience, this happened today, I realized about the public profile thing, and I wondered if I was the only one that that bothered,
