We used it for weekly conference calls with Citizen Agency. Worked ok, although it would be good to have a way to double check if you are there. Sometimes we were late.

what are the advantages over skype?

    2007-04-18 16:29:40.0

Only one user needs a PC.

    2007-04-18 17:46:13.0

They'd have to have a bigger user base to make this product feasable. I'd rather pay the $30 a year for Skype and have the wealth of features than try to get all my friends to sign up for this.

    2007-04-18 18:11:44.0

Why do your friends have to sign up? they don't do they??? they just get a normal phone call...

    2007-04-18 18:15:37.0

The thing is all the skype features are to make up for the fact that it primarilly PC based... e.g. skypeIn SkypeOut.. call divert voicemail  and the list goes on... all of these things are jsut stop gaps for things that most people already have available on their phones..... jajah doesn't need to provide the "Wealth of features" because you already have them...

    2007-04-18 18:17:50.0

It's a cheaper way to do what you already do with your phone...

    2007-04-18 18:18:26.0

Jajah can I have a job in sales:P

    2007-04-18 18:18:43.0

I'm intrigued, I have to say

    2007-04-18 18:56:47.0

I'm not sure I'd use this at home, as I have Skype In/Out and an old PC to serve Skype into a USB to RJ11 box that pligs into a long range cordless phone.  Works great, with the same old interface (phone) you're used to, not a headset and microphone sitting at my PC.

Where this would be useful, is with a mobile, in a country that does not charge the recipient for phone calls received.  How do you guys bill that?  At normal rates, or is there an uplift to pay for the mobile call?

    2007-04-19 14:27:06.0

hey that's Interesting Eric... someone needs to write a bluetooth plugin for sykpe that uses your regular mobile for a skype handset...:)

I also just bought on Ebay one of those SMC wifi Skype phones.  Seems to work well around the house, but I bought it for travel.  We'll see how that goes next week when I'm on holiday in Vancouver for a few days.

any thoughts on implementing something similar to jaxtr - the basic idea being a widget that allows a blog owner or website owner to place a widget allowing others to call them without having to know their number? definite use and definite market. ive just started looking into it myself. dont think id mind paying for the call myself in order to provide quality service and ease of use.

Hey. I just got spammed by a drive-by install from Errorsafe by clicking on that link!>:-O

    2007-05-10 20:05:03.0

Works fine for me..... it's just a link to a techcrunch article
    :-/

What in the world is a drive by install?

    2007-05-10 20:17:00.0

I would use this product. Signing up was a breeze. The test call ran fine. I also used it to ring a friend. I cannot get my head around the technology that has gone into building this but can get my head round cheap calls, and calls using my existing infrastructure. Wow. I shall be telling my friends and family to sign up. Family live OS or interstate so I am always looking at cheaper ways of staying in touch.

Will I avoid the Skype problems of delays and noisy lines with this product? If so, I am completely sold and will not look at Skype again.

    2007-05-10 20:18:17.0

Will it use bandwith or does it avoid it altogether? (That may be a dumb qn but I just don't get all this techno stuff).

    2007-05-10 20:22:34.0

It will use bandwidth. The call quality shouldn't be any better than Skype (in fact, I'd think it would be worse). But if you think it sounds better, then go ahead and use it.

    2007-05-10 20:23:45.0

    • want to call their friends for free - no matter if they are online or not or don't even have a computer (your grandmother for example)
    • are not excited by downloading complicated software and spending hours messing with settings to do internet calls
I'll give it a go and see what I think.  Interesting though...

    2007-05-10 20:25:01.0

This is funny as we have just bought a skype-enabled home phone handset! Maybe we didn't need to....

    2007-05-10 20:26:37.0

Hey guys, first of all thanks for the kind words and feedback, very much appreciated and I gotta come here more often!

    2007-05-14 17:32:07.0

Jajah doesn't use any bandwidth - ok, maybe 10 Bytes in total:) You only initiate the call between two regular phones (landline or mobile), means the only data transmission is to send the information of two phone numbers to our system. After that you can shut down your computer, it's not needed for the VoIP call at all!

    2007-05-14 17:34:36.0

There are no switching costs, you can use Jajah with any phone right away and there is no contract or fee involved

    2007-05-14 17:35:51.0

The call quality will be better than Skype because it doesn't use any of your bandwidth, you can use Jajah with a dial-up modem

    2007-05-14 17:41:22.0

Why do your friends have to sign up? they don't do they??? they just get a normal phone call...

That's how I have understood it...

    2007-06-20 19:35:04.0

Oh my drive-by comment Dek - that's one of Phil's phrases. It was a devious install option that looked legit but was generated  from an advertiser on the site...

    2007-06-20 19:36:11.0

Your friends don't have to sign-up, they'll always receive a regular phone call on their regular phone (landline or mobile), but if they register we provide you a thousand free minutes between you and your friend every month, you can find the details here http://www.jajah.com/info/rates/

    2007-07-06 20:35:26.0

hello, i just got a mail confirming 30 min free talktime after 5 referrals , but still waiting for the credit to be reflected on my account:(

    2007-07-27 11:27:17.0

    Really.

OK, let's see if the Jajah crew are around.

    2007-07-30 01:48:25.0

    Hey vb.bajpai,

I guess you are referring to our India campaign on http://www.jajahindia.com and you should be credited within 48 hours if your friends registered at Jajah as well. I know that many users already got their amount of minutes credited and I'm sorry for the inconvenience. Just drop me a note at "frederik [at] jajah [dot] com" with the email your registered with and I can have a look into it.

Thanks for your feedback and get back to me anytime.

    Best, Frederik
