Also, it says that there are 4 members online (in the bar at the bottom of the page) but only 3 names show on the Online Now page

yeah, I got that before, but only when I was trying to access a game playing against myself.

Looks like there was an issue where pieces of a game were being added to the database multiple times.  Will have to find out why.  You should probably be able to get back in now.   

And yes, you currently cannot play a game against your self, I will be disabling that soon.

In regards to the people online thing... it currently counts people if they are at the login page or registering.  So they may not show in the list because they haven't logged in yet.  I'll have to adjust it.

Ah... okay

I finally diasabled being able to invite yourself to a game.  Hopefully we won't be seeing that card error message again.

I was trying to say this: I don't have enough points!
Other messages were sent, so maybe it was the ' ?

Hrrmm...   ok, I think I fixed the problem with the games screen showing all WON values.  Stupid mistake there.   Lemme know if it's changed for ya. 

And regarding your message that you got the SQL error on, I forgot to accomodate for quotes!  I'll fix that in a minute, but I am working on a different text messenger as we speak so hopefully I won't have to use that simple one I created anymore.

Okay, so I won a game, and when I went back to my games page, I saw this:

It's the cards!

If you get a screen where you know you won and it says you've lost/.... or vice versa... let me know and tell me the game number.  Also, don't delete the game so I can take a look at the games stats.  I'm looking to see why it happened but it's easier if I have game details to trobleshoot it. 

I never delete games.... they get taken off automatically!

Your opponent may have deleted it.   Currently both players have the ability to remove the game.  I will be working on a way to save the games per user.

Right, here's a bit of an issue. It's probably not too problematic just now as there are less people on the site and many of those there are likely much more trustworthy, yet has the potential to really ruin everybody's fun should someone unscrupulous come along.   (This is why I didn't finish our game daddysauce, I realized what was happening/then doublechecked it, and yeah ... if you can just remove our current game it's nowhere near fair to have it count)

Very simply I refreshed my page a few times instead of hitting the reload screen button. While not always a big deal, the card I just played was one that I could have afforded the mana cost for a few times over ... and when the refresh sent the postdata again, it played the card again ... as daddysauce's turn. Then it was my turn again! I played another card, wondering how daddysauce had played so quickly when the site said only 1 player (me) was online. A bit later I refreshed again, wondering if he had been online and played ... and it added BOTH of my last two cards. The one that had been duplicated already, and the one that I then played on what was apparently my 3rd turn in a row. So I had taken 4 turns in a row apparently, with the 4th including playing 2 cards at once, and then it was my turn ...

Simplest fix would seem to me to be that you just check whose turn it is when somebody 'plays' a card. If it had stopped me from taking your turn we wouldn't have had problems. Otherwise, you can imagine all sorts of other, more exotic fixes ... but *shrug* I'll hope you have a nice easy time just throwing a little like conditional check in before anything is done ...

 

I knew this would be an issue from awhile back I just never did anything about it.   BUT... it is now fixed.  I wrote a script awhile ago that adds posted data to a 'location' and if the screen is refreshed it checks it against the previous card that was played.  I used it for other reasons in anothe rprogram I wrote but at least I don't have to think about this one too much.    Simple... yet works!

So... no more cheating!   hehe

btw ... I hate how tangler = firefox memory leak like WHOA. This is by far the most aggravating thing about this site, and actually a factor that reduces my use of the site. That and the fact that loading any given page spikes my cpu to the point where ff doesn't respond for a few seconds. I know I have a bunch of tabs open, but only one is tangler, and otherwise I only see like 60mb of memory usage with the same other tabs open (physical and virtual both). Yet, a tab of tangler open for half an hour and I'm about to restart seeing as I'm looking at 330mb in firefox alone.

Well, as an update ... jumping over to the last post topic in games brought it up to 400mb, a level it sustained at. Coming back here means I'm seeing it at 395mb.

Think the new update f***ed firefox's AJAX abilities again? I've noticed a distinct correlation between lots of web 2.0 sites + gmail and memory useage/system response. Web 2.0 and ajax seem to me to correlate relatively well ...

Though, tangler has always done this to me, no matter the browser or version I've used it with.

brb ... total system reboot!!! oh, and food, so you have time to ponder how you're going to beat me now that you can strengthen yourself, and nearly wipe me out on your next move following the one you should make about now. The one I discarded defenses against. Damn ethics.  :-p

Yeah, although FF had improved their support of it for a while. This update might be a step back though. Seeing as I killed the process before rebooting so that FF would restore my session, I have all the exact same things open as before, with the ability to hit the back button and whatnot ... and firefox is using 45mb of memory. What a difference.

Your last card played, was it blank when you played it? Or does the site just not want me to know what you did? (Do you remember?)


 

I got discarded the blank card... and guess what? I GOT ANOTHER ONE!!!!!! GAH!!!!!

Oh, which reminds me.... I think the last card played display should show if the card has been discarded or played. What do you guys think?

hmmmm.... I tired to use and discard, but I couldn't get rid of the card.... It just won't go away!

Nah, that one was when I could play a card, hit refresh as many times as I wanted, and it'd take that many turns (no matter whose turns) as me playing that card again and again and again. This was I hit reload screen (the button, not an actual refresh) and 3 of my cards were like redealt. Particularly bizarre.

Think I'll get better cards if I keep reloading?

I'm pretty sure I 'fixed' the reload/refresh page issue but I will try and figure out how you guys got the "blank" card.

Oh, and it's not just us. In our game Mikidee received a blank card as well. For that matter one of the cards of mine that changed themselves had been blank ...

that's really odd...  Do you have a blank card in any one of your games right now?  I looked up the old game and it was either already gone or the game was deleted.

Currently I have no blank cards. However, the game between miki and I is ongoing, and whilst dek has beaten me, the game has not been deleted. I don't know if that helps or anything, but ... such is the situation.

 

Well Dekrazee1 said it was game# 18679 and I can't seem to find it.  If it happens again let me know.  I have seen it come up once before but my opponent got rid of the game before I could find the issue.   It's something I need to log but I haven't gotten around to doing that yet.

No... 18679 doesn't even exist.  I even pulled the DB and nothing for that # comes up.  I will be keeping a log of the games soon but I'm not yet so it kinda blows.

Not sure what is up with the points yet.  I had someone else ell me the same thing and I can't seem to find why you wouldn't be getting them.  I'll keep an eye on it though.

I actually preserved the tab I had your site open in at the time, because of the oddity. I'm still looking at it, and it still shows in my games list . I just copied that from my address bar. It was what we were playing, whether your site handled it correctly or not. A quick check does indeed show it in my games list.

So uhh, 18679 surely was the case. Want a screenie? :-p

Sadly, no.   It mysteriously became a real card when two of my others decided to change identities.

I guess that your history only carries the last card to display it, not the whole game? (because the lack of logging games could mean including deleted ones, not just the entirety of games ...)

Hmm... that sucks.

NEXT time you see it hang on to the blank card and let your opponent know that you need to wait for testing purposes, and post it again. 

btw .... dek, was your rank always 1192? For some reason I didn't think it was, just as I thought mine did change ... though I'm FAR from certain. It'd be depressing to to think I'm on such a losing streak that my rank is 1076 without that game counting!    The answer ... stop playing 2/3 to 3/4 of my games against Maidrowl ...

Besides the point where I went to do something, and the servers were adamantly not there for about 45 seconds ... the site's been seeming a lot more functional just recently. In fact, I just took the earlier loss back from dek, and our scores did indeed update. (sorry mate, one fell swoop ... red mana cost:20, opponent -25 life)

yeah, that took me by surprise.... I don't like that when the game ends when I'm not in the game, I can't get in and have a look to see what happened... it's all so mysterious. I think we should be able to go in till the whole game has been deleted.
