The disclaimer at the bottom of their home page is mildly amusing.  Hey Andro, why not post that link on LOTU, if nothing else it will serve to raise the intellect on the forum.

    2008-07-02 00:25:56.0

I might do just that Arthur..

    2008-07-02 00:29:45.0

    2008-07-02 23:07:20.0

I actually know (or knew) a family of farmers in Hampshire (UK) who were members of the 'Flat Earth Society'. The patriarch was especially outspoken on the subject and declared all the satellite photos to be "propaganga" ...LOL

    2008-07-06 23:40:20.0

he was completely serious or did he get off on being the ornery old crank?

    2008-07-06 23:41:32.0

It was (and I think still is) a real 'society' or crank-cult in the UK. They were 100% serious believers. Perhaps Arthur knows more...

    2008-07-06 23:56:59.0

oh well, to each his own...................unless someone is trying to shove "his own" down my throat.

and i mean that in the 'cleanest' way possible............it just sounds dirty.Undecided

    2008-07-06 23:58:40.0

    2008-07-07 00:05:44.0

    of course you do.

    2008-07-07 00:09:08.0

    Perhaps Arthur knows more...

I have no idea heller.  One organisation that does amuse me though is this one  and to me typifies how the piss-take culture of the UK is used for good work.  Their Headquarters is in a village pub called "The Mad Cat".  in a village called Pidley.  If you look up Pidley on Google maps you'll see the vast mountain ranges around there (in the Cambridgeshire fens)

    2008-07-07 02:10:55.0

The Pidley Mountain Rescue, appears to have similar ideals to the AOOB, an organisation of which I am a proud member.

    2008-07-07 04:40:53.0

    You going to nominate me?

    2008-07-07 05:05:59.0

    Hmmm...obviously not

    2008-07-07 15:27:03.0

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flat_Earth_Society

The Flat Earth Society is apparently alive and well. They still believe the Earth is a flat disc with the North Pole as centre and a huge wall of sea water around the rim...!!! Must be nearly as wierd as the church of LOTU Smile

    2008-07-07 15:33:37.0

    You going to nominate me?

Ok heller, Just send me $15.00 and consider it done.Laughing

    2008-07-07 21:38:14.0

No, that goes to the Seconder Tongue out

    2008-07-07 22:43:47.0

There is no seconder, so it goes to the one who is firstier.

    2008-07-07 23:25:01.0

    That's an absolute bargain!

    2008-07-08 01:06:26.0

    2008-07-08 04:00:44.0

    2008-08-04 22:15:34.0

The article never explained the purpose of the plot/conspiracy...

Do they think by covering up that the earth is flat they're hoping the ignorant will fall off it or something?:-/

    2008-08-04 22:17:43.0

i've never understood these people...........what about all those who have sailed around the world?

(i'm sure they would easily cry foul for a flight around the world)

    2008-08-04 22:19:18.0

Of course I do!   Thank you moneypenny....Wink

    2008-08-04 22:19:45.0

    anything for you, bond.Laughing

    2008-08-04 22:20:08.0

Maybe they think flying around the world means around the circumference. If you do the diameter, buh bye!!

    2008-08-04 22:21:34.0

    2008-08-04 22:21:40.0

    2008-08-04 22:23:02.0

They still believe the Earth is a flat disc with the North Pole as centre and a huge wall of sea water around the rim...

    Um... What about Antarctica?

Silly people lol. Interesting concept though

    2008-08-04 22:35:57.0

Antarctica is what holds all the water on, and stops people sailing off the edge

and circumnavigation means going in a big circle around the edges of the world

you see, it all makes perfect sense :P

    2008-08-05 13:06:40.0

Hey, apparently we're not the only ones talking about it.

This came from yesterday's mX - (a local free paper, handed out in the afternoon at train stations and public locations in Sydney).

If you cant read it clearly, the text is below:

    2008-08-05 16:45:40.0

Don't be fooled by modern technology and science - the world really is flat.
That's the message from a group of conspiracy theorists who claim the concept of a spherical Earth is a lie maintained by space agencies, governments and scientists.
On the internet and in small meeting rooms in Britain and the US, believers get together to share their views.
"People are definitely prejudiced against flat-earthers," said John Davis, a flat-earth theorist based in Tennessee, reflecting on a new Microsoft ad that pokes fun at the concept.
Davis, a computer scientist, first became interested in the theory a few years ago.
"I came to realise how much we take at face value," he said. "We seem to be pleased with accepting what we are told."
Davis now believes "the Earth is flat and horizontally infinite - it stretches horizontally forever."
UK flat-earther James McIntyre said the reactions to his new beliefs vary from incredulity to the belief it's a joke.
But he is deadly serious on the question of pictures from space which show a round planet: "The space agencies of the world are involved in an international conspiracy to dupe the public to vast profit.
"The North Pole is central, and Antarctica comprises the entire circumference of the Earth. Circumnavigation is a case of travelling in a broad circle across the surface of the Earth."

    2008-08-05 16:45:45.0

Yes, but the discussion started here didn't it?

You're a trendsetter, is what you areXP

    2008-08-05 19:07:50.0

Going back a few hundred posts to the Flat Earth Society.  Did any of you follow the link to the Joining Page?  I filled it in on behalf of a neighbour.  A couple of days ago he collared me and told me that he was wondering why he had been accepted for membership of the Flat Earth Society - and did I know anything about it.

    2008-08-06 02:45:38.0

    HAHAHAHHAHAHAH!!

    2008-08-06 05:30:01.0
