Neal Ford does a presentation on Power RegEx in Java. Part of the presentation is to look at a regex expression and figure out what it does. So he puts up something like:

#$%@ (^%%$)

And asks, what does that expression match? The answer was "nothing", it's cartoon cursing. 

OK. So I hope I 'm not giving anything away in Neal's talk. Besides, all the regex look pretty much like that anyway.  

I still struggle with my regex, I'm sure one day it will become clear.

Regex is one of those things you really hate until you start doing useful things with it
