hello Jorg, Mark, Tomi & Tomo! few problems with the traffic to tangler =) which is both good and bad at the same time

Hello guys! What do you personally like most about the Nokia N97?

    2008-12-02 01:47:36.0

@Tarja, Personally, I love the mechanics. And Home Screen is wonderful Cool

    2008-12-02 01:48:50.0

Konnichiwa tarja-san, personally I like most the new concept (titing slide with qwerty) what we managed to create. you need to see it !

    2008-12-02 01:49:01.0

    Hi all! Interesting...

    2008-12-02 01:49:44.0

@jsaarikko Hello and welcome. What interests you the most?

    2008-12-02 01:50:53.0

The social media user aspective is really interesting. Just thinking how well the integration will work, since the mashupable (!) content evolves constantly. And whether bi-directional use can really be achieved...?

    2008-12-02 01:53:25.0

so, what's this new N97? I like what I see...

    2008-12-02 01:54:37.0

@jsaarikko, Thanks d\for showing the interest. Integration of social media to device is now on-going and you shall be able to experience this in real N97 in due course.  It is for us evolving process as well and objective is to deliver the best social media device possible.  This is to please all of you as well:)

    2008-12-02 01:57:36.0

I'm very glad that Nokia seems to be moving in the right direction with the N97

    2008-12-02 01:59:03.0

@clintonjeff, Yes, it is now being demonstrated at Nokia World event, Experiences lounge demo area.

    2008-12-02 01:59:15.0

hi Spider, all-in-one. such as, 3.5inch touch with personalizable homescreen but I'd take for an age to list all goodies here. please have a look nokia.com and conversations.nokia.com to find out more

    2008-12-02 01:59:29.0

    Hello everyone!

I think that Nokia N97 is a fantastic phone! One thing I can't help but wonder is why this isn't released earlier? Is it because you wanted to "sell off" 5800, N96 and N85 before or wasn't the phone finished?:)

    2008-12-02 02:00:04.0

for those who want a linkie lol

    2008-12-02 02:00:23.0

    Ìs this still on?

    2008-12-02 02:01:34.0

@jsaarikko yes a bit slow though

    2008-12-02 02:01:49.0

    yeah, here we're. shoot !

    2008-12-02 02:02:08.0

yes, we are ready for YOU

    2008-12-02 02:02:24.0

I also read about the Nokia Messaging and Nokia Maps...any more info than what was printed in the blogs and websites?

    2008-12-02 02:02:48.0

This might sound like a silly question, but does the N97 have the ol' video editor that was on the N95 that went missing in later N-series devices ? lol.

    2008-12-02 02:02:55.0

@allwise, Our product portfolio continually evolves and N97 will deliver ever evolving user experiences.

    2008-12-02 02:03:04.0

also, why not o-led on the N97 ?

    2008-12-02 02:04:26.0

    finally

    hi fellas

    2008-12-02 02:04:33.0

Why is Nokia Still stuck with 5 MP camera

    2008-12-02 02:04:59.0

clintonjeff, at the moment we're still defining final content and look out N97 updates in coming weeks.

    2008-12-02 02:05:36.0

hey Cj - pretty rough time with this tangler. finally its workin

    2008-12-02 02:05:42.0

Hello EveryOne - Nokia Team and Iglu303

    2008-12-02 02:06:26.0

What is the Maximum HSDPA speed on N97?

    2008-12-02 02:06:42.0

Thank you. One other thing I wonder is: Do one need the physical keyboard? Why not send a BT-keyboard in-package instead? I mean, usually you know if you are going to type a long letter and therefore you can bring the BT-keyboard, for all other occations you have the touchscreen QWERTY. I think that internal physical keyboard just takes up place and will make the phone bulkier. On the same line, whats the dimensions of N97?

    2008-12-02 02:07:00.0

gomcoite; Mpixs doesn't tell everything, we're putting lot of effort to optics, SW and so. it will be a great camera

    2008-12-02 02:07:13.0

@spiderman. check out email.nokia.com for information about the beta of Nokia Messaging.

    2008-12-02 02:07:34.0

@clintonjeff, there are too many considerations to discuss here, but I think you will find that screen of N97 has excellent quality

    2008-12-02 02:08:04.0

@ tomi - i knw but N96 was a big disappointment. why no Xenon?

    2008-12-02 02:08:05.0

@josh2003, Max speed of HSDPA is 3.6Mbps

    2008-12-02 02:08:51.0

hi @ all: just in case you arent aware: the maps guys are here as well:)

    2008-12-02 02:08:55.0

allwise; we believe qwerty fits perfectly to this mobile computer, allways with you. dimensions: 117-55-15.9

    2008-12-02 02:09:16.0

    Maps Guys : Y'all rule !

    2008-12-02 02:09:31.0

@ tomi - i knw but N96 was a big disappointment. why no Xenon?

    2008-12-02 02:09:58.0

    @clintonjeff: of course we do

    2008-12-02 02:10:03.0

@gomcoite: xenon is great for stills, for video doesn't fit perfectly. dual leds helps with this

    2008-12-02 02:10:14.0

    @clintonjeff: Thanks:)

    2008-12-02 02:10:36.0

can I have a brief description on how the in-built compass works? how about a use-case description?

    2008-12-02 02:10:46.0

    Hi all

Nice to be here also had some logon problems i like the N97 and it definitely  has my Interest but so far can't see anywhere where it says what processor it is using? I'm guessing an OMAP2 series chip and if so when will we eventually start to see OMAP3 chip's coming online in our devices with all the improvements they are meant to bring?

    2008-12-02 02:10:50.0

Nokia Account at present does not seem to work well. i have had issues with it. why cant we edit subscriptions inside the ovi page of our account.

    2008-12-02 02:11:27.0

@Nokia Jorg and Nokia Mari: could you briefly tell about new Maps beta and Maps beta on Ovi features? What's cool and new?

    2008-12-02 02:11:34.0

Why not make a phone with Dual Led AND xenon then ? Other manufacturers have done it. Was price a major issue ?

    2008-12-02 02:11:43.0

will we see NFC and other legend services in this device

    2008-12-02 02:12:29.0

@ Jorg, Mari : Any estimate on how long before Maps 3.0 comes to FP1 devices ?

    2008-12-02 02:12:31.0

@dogmann; Nprocessor is getting better, in our case we use tuned ARM11

    2008-12-02 02:12:34.0

Can someone explain the touchscreen differences between resistive and whatever else is available?

    2008-12-02 02:12:37.0

    Thanks Tomi!

    Do the N97 have a FM-transmitter?

    2008-12-02 02:12:51.0

Thanks Nokia Mark...I had a quick read while waiting for my answer on the in-built compass.

    2008-12-02 02:13:24.0

@spiderman, Compass will work so that when I come out of London tube and walk 3blocks, I find out I'm walking in worng direction.  I needed something to solve this case.  Compass will let me face and walk in the right direction.  Compass and A-GPS combine makes this great experience Smile

    2008-12-02 02:13:35.0

@allwise; Yes, we have it (FMTx) and think about 32GB on board memory and amount of mp3...

    2008-12-02 02:14:05.0

    Is N-Gage avaiable on S60 5th Edition?

    2008-12-02 02:14:11.0

@Tomoharu - so does Compass use the sensors for direction?

    2008-12-02 02:14:22.0

exactly how does the compass works on N97?

    2008-12-02 02:14:46.0

@gomcoite: Yes, it will be there with best ever games

    2008-12-02 02:14:57.0

Thanks Nokia Tomo. I don't understand what you're saying. How will the phone even know that I am walking in the wrong direction...and why only 3 blocks later? In the US, 3 blocks is a long way!

    2008-12-02 02:15:13.0

@booster: We are having the new great looking maps in device, with the cool 3D landmarks in major cities. New terrain maps, speed and safety camera information and best of all synchronisation of you favorites between PC and mobile, which no one else can do.

    2008-12-02 02:15:56.0

@ tomi thats good news for 5800 as well. any ideas when will the support be added on N-gage

    2008-12-02 02:16:00.0

@nick09, N97 has risistive touch screen and there are capacitive touch screen.  Risitive touch screen is more flexible and robust than capacitive touch.  Resistive touch is also usable with nails or when wearing glove as well.

    2008-12-02 02:16:33.0

    @gomcoite; sry, but I don't know 5800 plans, only N97

    2008-12-02 02:16:44.0

Thank you. So then I'll be wearing some nice gloves when touching the n97

    2008-12-02 02:17:16.0

@ the event you mentioned that you can do better than GOOGLE MAPS. but at present you don't even have Public Transit and Not to mention you lack many cities in India

    2008-12-02 02:17:17.0

N97 will be sold both in White and Black colors?

    2008-12-02 02:17:24.0

Any news about Maemo 5 based devices?

    2008-12-02 02:17:57.0

Tomi: Sounds fantastic! I love the transmitter on the N85.

What colours will it be available in? And will the release be more or less exactly 24 months after the release of original N95 in april 2007 to gain those on 24 months subscription with N95?

    2008-12-02 02:17:57.0

@josh; yes, B&W are the first colours to start.

    2008-12-02 02:18:19.0

@spiderman, maps will rotate on the device so map is always north-up and when you turn maps turn.  It's like when you are walking that you rotate the paper map to have the map facing the right direction.

    2008-12-02 02:18:31.0

Any news about Nokia Suite for Linux? Is maps.ovi.com only for MS Windows?

    2008-12-02 02:18:33.0

Q: Will we be able to customise the number of entries in the standby screen? For instance, say I want 5 or 6 quick contacts.

    2008-12-02 02:18:47.0

    thanks Nokia tomo

    2008-12-02 02:18:59.0

    Hi Nokia Mark

    2008-12-02 02:19:06.0

@ gomcoite: we are having the navigation, synchronisation between mobile device & PC and preloaded maps onboard

    2008-12-02 02:19:09.0

@josh2003, Yes, we will be selling white and black variants

    2008-12-02 02:19:19.0

@jsmanrique: Mac OS will be supported shortly

    2008-12-02 02:19:49.0

@nick09, to be seen, as told earlier we're still finetuning the content and for sure these all are good feedback to us. thanks !

    2008-12-02 02:20:11.0

i have heard that Mail on Ovi cannot yet be set up on my N95 8GB. Is this true? I am afraid of trying to set it up and crashing the phone because the application is not certified...

    2008-12-02 02:20:28.0

    @Nkoia Tomi

Many thanks for that information in which case i would imagine battery life will be exceptional even with a large 3.5" Touchscreen. Is the N97 starting to blur the lines between  E and N series devices as with a QWERTY it should be as good for Business as it is for Entertainment . Or we will not to far away see an E90 replacement with similar if not better spec's than the N97 although I'm not sure how much better it can get for now?

    2008-12-02 02:20:34.0

@ Mari - I have tried that but here in India Google has my city listed but not Nokia Maps. The word is when will the Nokia Maps cover uncovered places in India, which I feel is a major market for Nokia

    2008-12-02 02:20:37.0

hello to everyone from Nokia here, thanks for taking your time to answer our questions

    2008-12-02 02:21:19.0

    hey rita, whazzz..uuuuup?

    2008-12-02 02:21:47.0

@dogmann; we've 1500mAh battery which is the biggest one in NSeries and when I've been using it you really can see the benefit of big capasity

    2008-12-02 02:22:05.0

hey everyone, thanks for the warm welcome, yes, it's Dotsisx, Rita El Khoury, khouryrt, whatever you want to call me

    2008-12-02 02:22:19.0

Thank you SO much for putting in the 1500mAh battery

    2008-12-02 02:22:31.0

no more silly 950 mAh for flagships thank you

    2008-12-02 02:22:51.0

@all, great questiong, keep on coming. this is a great experience !

    2008-12-02 02:22:53.0

@ tomi -I have been facing huge battery consumptions when i use nokiavine or sportstracker. How good is this in this regards

    2008-12-02 02:22:59.0

one question i would like to see answered is about the story behind the N97... how did it come to life? what were your aspirations when you designed it?

    2008-12-02 02:23:05.0

@gomcoite: our maps service is continually evolving, can't give you a specific time now, but please check Nokia Maps regularly for updates

    2008-12-02 02:23:05.0

@Nokia Jorg : Mac OS is not Linux;)

    2008-12-02 02:23:22.0

@ Jorg, Mari : Any estimate on how long before Maps 3.0 comes to FP1 devices ?

    2008-12-02 02:23:23.0

@ spiderman. Mail on Ovi is a standard IMAP email address. The service today is only configurable from certain S40 devices. We announced today that we will have a web interface for Mail on Ovi that will go live early next year. Once you have a Mail on Ovi account you'll be able to use Nokia Messaging or even the basic email client on your S60 device to check your mail. I'd recommend getting an Ovi identity from Ovi.com which will also become the basis for your Mail on Ovi email address. Thanks...

    2008-12-02 02:23:32.0

    @gomcoite; it will be improved;)

    2008-12-02 02:23:41.0

Yes, thats great with the big battery? But how about the release from my previous question? Will it be released in april to gain N95 24 months subscribers?

    2008-12-02 02:24:03.0

Q: About availability in the US. Ever since I've moved to the US I've felt that I've been distancing from Nokia. Does Nokia plan to release N97 at the same time as everywhere? And will it be offered by companies here under contracts (subsidised)?

    2008-12-02 02:24:30.0

and one more Nokia Mark. I saw that Nokia Messaging has Yahoo Mail. This got me excited, so I went and tried to create my account. I already have nokia email service, but Yahoo Mail still doesn't work...

    2008-12-02 02:24:41.0

@ Nokia - Why dont we see you guys making Nseries or Eseries products for cdma networks. Like verizone etc.

    2008-12-02 02:24:51.0

    @allwise; per today we're announcing just 1H'09..

    2008-12-02 02:25:06.0

@khourtyrt, There is no one specific passion, but this is collaborative effort, and we see clear market need for this type of device.

    2008-12-02 02:25:09.0

What about DVB-H tuner? I saw a link "Live TV" in the preview video of the N97 multimedia menu...

    2008-12-02 02:25:25.0

@spiderman. it's announced but part of the next release due out at the end of the year...

    2008-12-02 02:25:39.0

another question is: what is the one thing you think the N97 misses? when u built it, did u wish u could put one more thing in it, and had to give up on that?

    2008-12-02 02:25:51.0

@nick09; yes, we plan to introduce NA variant of N97 and shipping right after global

    2008-12-02 02:25:53.0

@ Nokia - What was the most challenging part in the development of N97

    2008-12-02 02:25:58.0

I'd say it misses a xenon flash but I'm just plain ol'picky about that one:P

    2008-12-02 02:26:41.0

@ Nokia - What is the feature that you like the most about this new device

    2008-12-02 02:27:02.0

@clintonjeff: we are working on it to make it available as soon as we can

    2008-12-02 02:27:07.0

no news about new Maemo devices?

    2008-12-02 02:27:14.0

@khouryrt; personally I feel we've pretty much everything what is needed, but of course coffee machine would be great ;_)

    2008-12-02 02:27:26.0

@rickshaw, Video offering for N97 is for internet video application services etc.  We have video center application and Flash video support.  I personally think we have enough antennas:)

    2008-12-02 02:27:31.0

Maemo 5 will add support for many of the characteristics of N97, but N97 is SymbianOS 5, and it is a phone... Maemo based devices aren't phones, yet?

    2008-12-02 02:28:08.0

will this be a comes with music enabled device?

    2008-12-02 02:28:12.0

@Nokia Tomi yeah i think u do love that answer, don't you? also a lot of bloggers would've been happy to see a coffee machine implementedXP

    2008-12-02 02:28:21.0

Thanks Nokia Mark. I can't stand going to m.yahoo.com to get my mail. Painful painful painful

    2008-12-02 02:28:22.0

@ Tomi whats the estimate on how long before Nokia makes a phone with a coffee machine built in:P ?

    2008-12-02 02:28:26.0

@gomcoite; so far it has been the mechanical concept !

    2008-12-02 02:28:36.0

Thats a great answer Tomoharu:) DVB-H´s just too much. Better to go through internet.

    2008-12-02 02:28:43.0

@gomcoite, We plan to have N97 be compatible for Comes with Music services

    2008-12-02 02:29:04.0

@clintonjeff; well, good question. I'll create a requirement for it;)

    2008-12-02 02:29:28.0

    woohoo for that @tomoharu

    2008-12-02 02:29:32.0

@spiderman. We all feel your pain. for a period there m.yahoo.com was the number one visited mobile site in the US. lots of people feeling the pain!

    2008-12-02 02:29:40.0

@Tomoharu, yeah, I absolutely agree. The whole handheld video is moving towards on-demand video. What about the build quality of the device? Is it going to improve from the days pre-production models?

    2008-12-02 02:29:42.0

though i do hope it doesn't add a lot to the price:)

    2008-12-02 02:29:46.0

    +1 this

    2008-12-02 02:30:09.0

okay Cj - gotta make a move - cya all -

    2008-12-02 02:31:38.0

    @Nokia Tomoharu

As you have said "we see a clear market need for this type of device" just what is that? as i see it possibly being many things to many people depending on their individual requirements  and crossing over the different market areas as i looks like it can be used for anything the users wants within reason of course.

    2008-12-02 02:31:44.0

Thanks for taking the time out to answer our questions guys

    2008-12-02 02:31:49.0

thank you all, and one more thing, thanks for making so many "first time"s in ONE handset

    2008-12-02 02:32:01.0

    Later AniXP @ gomcoite

    2008-12-02 02:32:07.0

and thanks for putting every tech that you have known and mastered into ONE handset

    2008-12-02 02:32:39.0

    Im back, lost internet connection

    2008-12-02 02:33:31.0

    @micky. It's over now! :)

    2008-12-02 02:33:46.0

I know, I have some catching up to do lol

    2008-12-02 02:34:01.0

thanks folks. it's going to be a loong day of reading for me, so I'll be back for the next session to ask more questions. Really want to know more about Email on my phone. I'm E--X-C-I-T-E-D

    2008-12-02 02:34:06.0

    @spiderman.  M-E  T-O-O-! :)

    2008-12-02 02:34:46.0

is there more devices coming today or tomorrow? Tongue out

    2008-12-02 02:35:23.0

    Good question

    2008-12-02 02:35:42.0

what happened to the 1pm video?

    2008-12-02 02:38:30.0

    HE LIED

    "no not 8 , 16, 32, but 64 GB"

it only has 48 or something LIERRRRRR

    2008-12-02 02:42:19.0

    oh hum

    2008-12-02 02:42:35.0

    plus 16GB MicroSD Im guessing

    2008-12-02 02:42:52.0

@infi yes there will be more videos on events.nokia.com/nokiaworld those will be available on demand later on

    2008-12-02 02:43:17.0

no with expansion it will be 48 gb maximum. It's really good already but i just dont like how he can screw up on these simple specs

    2008-12-02 02:44:26.0

so will we see more devices?

    2008-12-02 02:45:20.0

    oh right, I see now.

    2008-12-02 02:45:47.0

    no , no more

    2008-12-02 02:46:09.0

what do you think about the price?

    2008-12-02 02:46:47.0

seems a bit cheap, no? at least when compared to 5800 and n85 etc

    2008-12-02 02:47:05.0

lol you can never ask for cheaper

    2008-12-02 02:47:29.0

oh i know. i just want to be sure they didn't drop quality to get that price.

    2008-12-02 02:47:46.0

550 euro isn't exactly THAT cheap. Most consumer spend less than 300 euro on a phone

    2008-12-02 02:48:37.0

well if you take into account subsidised from service companies, then they pay as low as Free! lol

    2008-12-02 02:49:15.0

so i keep hearing there will be more devices

    2008-12-02 02:49:26.0

Service companies ties people with contracts  such as iphone, $199usd  for 3 years.

    2008-12-02 02:50:47.0

if apple can do it why not nokia

    2008-12-02 02:51:07.0

    right right

    2008-12-02 02:51:17.0

    i hope they do!

    2008-12-02 02:51:27.0

and have hack phone or some thing like that, right?

    2008-12-02 02:51:40.0

also this price will probably cause other devices to drop in price as well.

i imagine 5800 will be lowered to maybe 450 or so

    2008-12-02 02:52:21.0

    @fantasyboy - i love my hacked n95 lol

    2008-12-02 02:52:55.0

I am still not impressed to give up iphone for N97, are u guys?

    2008-12-02 02:53:02.0

    i am ready!

    2008-12-02 02:53:13.0

really i just hope it integrates well in the US

    2008-12-02 02:53:23.0

though I will probably not buy the NA version

    2008-12-02 02:53:41.0

the only reason for me would be everyone has an iphone lol

    2008-12-02 02:53:44.0

but that's exactly why! you'd be different!

    2008-12-02 02:53:59.0

yah i meant the reason i would want to buy n97 is to be different

    2008-12-02 02:54:37.0

it would have been a great new year/christmas sell

    2008-12-02 02:55:20.0

    instead of the 5800

    2008-12-02 02:55:26.0

    which parts?

    2008-12-02 02:55:34.0

comes with nvedia 9800 GTX graphics card

    2008-12-02 02:56:03.0

    hahahaha

    2008-12-02 02:56:13.0

really the 48 GB storage is just a LOT

    2008-12-02 02:56:42.0

i have a huge music library and it only fills about 25 GB

    2008-12-02 02:56:56.0

true i just hope it wont be laggy, that was one of the reason why i stopped using s60 phones

    2008-12-02 02:57:56.0

which ones did you own before?

    2008-12-02 02:58:31.0

i had such problem with java apps, so now no java apps in my phone, no matter how 'cool' they are

    2008-12-02 02:59:05.0

long time ago i had 3230

    2008-12-02 03:00:49.0

really good phone but just lags

    2008-12-02 03:01:15.0

oh, my nokia... they're never stop take my money

    2008-12-02 03:01:17.0

lol i'm afraid once i buy n97 they will release new improved n98 or who knows

    2008-12-02 03:03:24.0

there's a long gap in the n8x numbers

    2008-12-02 03:03:43.0

    no tv tuner

    2008-12-02 03:04:58.0

    would you want one?

    2008-12-02 03:05:06.0

    no need for such.

    2008-12-02 03:14:43.0

    Nokia Aquires Symbian:)

    2008-12-02 03:20:10.0

Espoo, Finland - Nokia today announced that it has completed its offer to acquire Symbian Limited. All conditions to Nokia's offer to acquire Symbian Limited have been satisfied and it has received valid acceptance of greater than 99.9% of the total Symbian shares that Nokia did not already own. Symbian is the software company that develops and licenses Symbian OS, the market-leading open operating system for mobile devices.

The closing of the offer is a fundamental step in the establishment of the Symbian Foundation, announced on June 24, 2008 by Nokia, together with AT&T, LG Electronics, Motorola, NTT DOCOMO, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, ST-NXP Wireless, Texas Instruments and Vodafone. More information about the planned foundation can be found at http://www.symbianfoundation.org.

All Symbian employees are planned to become Nokia employees on February 1, 2009.

    2008-12-02 03:20:17.0

Great news, I think. Symbian OS is a solid foundation for the future.

    2008-12-02 03:51:03.0

how u think the news will affect nokia stock today, when the US market opens???

    2008-12-02 05:43:29.0

    2008-12-02 07:16:48.0

Would there be a maemo based N97 look alike?

    2008-12-02 07:21:05.0

    17minutes!

    2008-12-02 08:43:35.0

    good evening @ all

    2008-12-02 08:52:39.0

    spiderman is back!

    2008-12-02 08:53:59.0

Hehe, who's gonna answer the questions in this session and will the still cover the N97?

    2008-12-02 08:56:51.0

Ahh now its time to  get on with maps I guess

    2008-12-02 08:57:33.0

    @ ravindra: yes, definetely

    2008-12-02 08:58:02.0

    yo, cool.

    2008-12-02 08:58:30.0

is it possible to get a simple explanation on how this integrated A-GPS system and electronic compass works from an end consumer perspective?

    2008-12-02 08:59:11.0

i think i'm going to focus on email and instant messaging for a while

    2008-12-02 08:59:14.0

What do you expecting to gain by linking the Maps with ovi,is it all about social media networking??

    2008-12-02 08:59:43.0

@spiderman. Oh yeah. My favorite topic!

    2008-12-02 09:00:21.0

Hi Nokia Mark, good to see you again

    2008-12-02 09:00:51.0

Hi, all, I'm Product manager for N97. hit me with good questions:)

    2008-12-02 09:01:04.0

@ravindra: we believe that context based services pretty much live on the map. there are different ways to address this. we are working towards this

    2008-12-02 09:01:25.0

Nokia mark, i did not read much about the IM. Why is that so?

    2008-12-02 09:02:54.0

@Tomoharu What about the guts of the device? Are we going to see something new and exciting (chipsetwise) or is it going to be old iron reraped? 3d accelerator chip?

    2008-12-02 09:03:23.0

@ tomoharu, eager to know more about the electronic compass system? what's the back end integration and the front end of it, from a consumer exp pov?

    2008-12-02 09:04:03.0

I'm from Sri Lanka ,A small island with tons of Nokia users, but never saw our maps on Nokia Maps,so are you still going to concern more/only on major cities??Or will there be a place for us too, otherwise most of the GPS equipped device users will not get what they pay for.

    2008-12-02 09:04:04.0

@spidey: Our IM service for both S40 and S60 devices is based on the technology we've just acquired from Oz only last month... There's lots of good stuff to come.

    2008-12-02 09:04:10.0

@rickshaw, thanks for the first question.  We have ARM11 chip more powerful than N96 and N95.

    2008-12-02 09:04:55.0

thanks Nokia Mark, but when? I have 3 Yahoo Messenger accounts and a MSN Messenger account, and I wanna get them all in my phone

    2008-12-02 09:05:25.0

@ravindra: with our recent acquisition of Navteq we can push them to create maps for some of our important markets like Sri Lanka so we are working on it

    2008-12-02 09:06:12.0

@spidey. i'm assuming that you have an S60 device... The plan is to have the IM service for S60 up and running mid next year. For now it's all about push consumer email that you can try today at email.nokia.com...

    2008-12-02 09:06:54.0

Wow great to hear that, alas My N95 8Gig will guide me to my adresses

    2008-12-02 09:07:28.0

@Songita B Verma, Electronic compass will tuen the maps on the device screen, so you do not have to turn the map or the device.  Map being displayed will have North up.  That means that you turn the device and map being displayed turns.

    2008-12-02 09:07:38.0

@Tomoharu Yea, I've seen some hands-on videos, which seem convincing for a such a preproduction model. Do you feel that there is lot tweaking potential UI-wise? To make it faster!

    2008-12-02 09:07:49.0

    yes, i have a N95 8GB:(

    2008-12-02 09:08:01.0

Ahh,BTW Are there any plans to embed Plazes and GyPSii Social media networking applications into Nokia maps?

    2008-12-02 09:08:08.0

What's the "window" in th eleft top corner?:)

    2008-12-02 09:08:39.0

    Hi everyone

    2008-12-02 09:08:46.0

    @clinton. Hola!

    2008-12-02 09:09:10.0

@ravindra: Plazes team and technology are already now contributing to our offering. you will see public results in the near future

    2008-12-02 09:09:11.0

    @ tomoharu, will N97 be N-Gage compatible?

    2008-12-02 09:09:27.0

@rickshaw, What we have shown today is just the prototype.:)

    2008-12-02 09:09:48.0

    @songita B Verma, Ofcourse. N97 will be N-Gage compatible

    2008-12-02 09:10:35.0

Nokia mark, if i sign up for mail on ovi on the PC, will I also get direct access to Maps on Ovi, or are they entirely separate things

    2008-12-02 09:10:52.0

@Tomoharu Yazawa, what is the RAM inside the N97,is it still 128MB,if so will it be enough for the graphical effects, especially for the widgets. Also is there a dedicated 3D accelerator Chip inside the N97?

    2008-12-02 09:10:53.0

@Tomoharu But the question is, how early prototype Wink

    2008-12-02 09:10:59.0

    @ Tomoharu, thanks. that's gr8 news!

    2008-12-02 09:12:12.0

hi guys sorry for being late

    2008-12-02 09:12:37.0

@Ravindra, Yes it is enough and the RAM is not just capacity.  It's also how we use it as well.

    2008-12-02 09:13:27.0

@spidey. Sign up for an Ovi account. That will become your mobile email address. e.g. oviusername@ovi.com. It will be integrated as a single sign on experience...

    2008-12-02 09:13:37.0

caught up with some courier work! What did I miss?

    2008-12-02 09:13:39.0

@ Tomoharu how's the music quality compared to the N91 or N81?

    2008-12-02 09:13:57.0

What about the S50 5th interface? Is it sealed or are you going to make changes to it (for example, I personally don't like the S80 -style grey sidepanel which is for example in the browser)?

    2008-12-02 09:14:23.0

@spiderman: Maps on Ovi uses the same ovi account. we call it "single sign on"

    2008-12-02 09:14:44.0

Sry, I meant S60, of course!

    2008-12-02 09:14:46.0

@rickshaw; with themes you can do miracles

    2008-12-02 09:15:34.0

Ok does it mean that you are using a different kind of a ram or different bus speed,or is it just the architecture of the RAM proccesing been retouched?

    2008-12-02 09:15:48.0

@Monadi, MI personally used it as music device and was happy with quality of it.

    2008-12-02 09:15:56.0

What I would like to know is how Nokia is going to push these new services to non Nokia customers?

    I mean the Ovi services

    2008-12-02 09:16:26.0

how heavy is the N97 and as compared to the E71

    2008-12-02 09:17:03.0

    @spiderman; 150g and sry I don't E71 details

    2008-12-02 09:17:42.0

@adityasinghvi: Maps on Ovi as an example can be used by any person, as it is an internet offering open to everyone.

    2008-12-02 09:18:40.0

apparently N97 processor is ARM 11, same series as N95, but running at higher clock speed.

    2008-12-02 09:18:48.0

Also, how's Nokia going to market music on Ovi esp in APAC markets considering that services will soon start rolling out in some of the markets?Pricing??

    2008-12-02 09:19:18.0

@ Tomoharu What do you think is the most important feature that didn't make it to the N97?

    2008-12-02 09:19:21.0

Hello, what's the "window" in theleft top corner?:)

    2008-12-02 09:19:41.0

will CWM be othered with this device ?

    2008-12-02 09:20:00.0

@Tomoharu,How steady is the slider mechanism,is it still wobbly?,I'm sick of the Nwobble on my N95 8GB.

    2008-12-02 09:20:02.0

Will India be covered more vastly, considering the limited amount of cities available now?

    2008-12-02 09:20:09.0

@krystof.korb; it is for proximity sensor

    2008-12-02 09:20:27.0

    @ Tomaharu good one...Smile

    2008-12-02 09:21:01.0

You had one in early protos;)?

    2008-12-02 09:21:22.0

@ravindra; sliding mechanics is smooth and robust. you need to see it

    2008-12-02 09:21:24.0

@brain, N97 is compatible with comes with music services where available

    2008-12-02 09:21:37.0

@all. FYI. Just a reminder... This chat is about Messaging, Maps and the N97... Please try to focus questions on these areas. Thanks!

    2008-12-02 09:21:46.0

Do we have threaded SMS messaging in N97?

    2008-12-02 09:22:56.0

How much of the features that we see in the N97 will get transferred to the 5800, in the future?

    2008-12-02 09:23:14.0

Will there be a stylus with the N97 retail package? or is all upto finger touch input?

    2008-12-02 09:23:51.0

stylus available in some asian markets only @ ravindra

    2008-12-02 09:24:16.0

@adityasinghvi: As we answered before, we are working with Navteq to add as many countries as possible as soon as possible. There is a link on the Navteq website that you can submit your request for coverage.

    2008-12-02 09:24:23.0

    will N97 have Nokia Messaging?

    2008-12-02 09:24:36.0

@aditya...; both are based on S60 5th edition but that's where it ends. N97 has monster memory, bigger screen, all other goodies.

    2008-12-02 09:24:51.0

@ Mark Will there be a friend list in the works for Nokia Maps, for the purposes of easily sharing search results or destinations, and also something similar to having friendview integrated?

    2008-12-02 09:25:10.0

@Ravindra, @clintonjeff, We will have stylus in all N97 sales package (not just Asian markets):)

    2008-12-02 09:25:28.0

This means that this is the next step of differentiation between the Nseries and the other lines!

    2008-12-02 09:25:33.0

@spidey. Yes Nokia Messaging will support the N97.

    2008-12-02 09:25:41.0

really ? the press release said just a few asian markets ? ha thats a suprise

    2008-12-02 09:26:00.0

@Tomoharu So that every message is displayed under to recipients name; chat-like. Like the betalabs application named 'Conversation'.

    2008-12-02 09:26:03.0

    @Ravindra, No navi-wheel on N97

    2008-12-02 09:26:11.0

Does the N97 feature 3D hardware graphics?

    2008-12-02 09:27:35.0

Hmm,So being a Touch screen 5MP camera device does the N97 has manual focusing by touching the object we want to focus on the screen??If so this willl be a major breakthrough.

    2008-12-02 09:28:17.0

@Monadi: as stated above already, we believe that the map is socially relevant. a second step is to share objects based on the map. this has to be very intuitive and has to respect privacy.

    2008-12-02 09:28:20.0

Will the N97 completely fill the gap when it comes to basic computing?

To put it in another way, how handicapped will I be without my laptop (netbook) but with a N97?

    2008-12-02 09:28:33.0

@superious: no we don't have it, but we do a lot stuff with our tuned processor

    2008-12-02 09:28:40.0

    thanks Tomi Laughing

    2008-12-02 09:29:11.0

why is the N97 coming out only next year? when exactly, like which month

    2008-12-02 09:29:25.0

    @spiderman; today we're telling just 1H'09

    2008-12-02 09:30:13.0

@rickshaw, Thanks for explanation.  we do not have chat like SMS conversation, but we do have great easy to comprehend messaging service.  Many types of messaging has time heiarchical architecture in Nokia messaging versus chat-like-SMS conversation:-)

    2008-12-02 09:30:34.0

Hi everyone, sorry if I ask questions that have been asked already.

    2008-12-02 09:30:36.0

What's the RAM available in the N97?

    2008-12-02 09:30:52.0

Will the N97 completely fill the gap when it comes to basic computing?

To put it in another way, how handicapped will I be without my laptop (netbook) but with a N97?

    2008-12-02 09:31:24.0

any ideas if the N97 is currently planned to have N-Gage? Along with the 5800 maybe

    2008-12-02 09:32:32.0

@superious; yes, N97 will have ngage

    2008-12-02 09:33:02.0

@Tomi,So being a Touch screen 5MP camera device does the N97 has manual focusing by touching the object we want to focus on the screen??If so this willl be a major breakthrough.Like in theLG renoir I meant.

    2008-12-02 09:33:05.0

Add my question to it too ravindra!:P

    2008-12-02 09:33:33.0

@Ravindra, we do not have manual focus feature, but we have great Carl Zeiss lens and picture color renditions:)

    2008-12-02 09:34:10.0

how come Yahoo has not mentioned anything about nokia messaging

    2008-12-02 09:34:18.0

@spidey. I don't know. You need to ask them! :)

    2008-12-02 09:35:35.0

    @ Tomi or Tomoharu,

Will the N97 completely fill the gap when it comes to basic computing?

To put it in another way, how handicapped will I be without my laptop (netbook) but with a N97?

    2008-12-02 09:35:49.0

Is that the Multimedia key at the bottom left corner,if so is it just the same old tabbed menu in the other NXX?

    2008-12-02 09:36:10.0

@ravindra; it is called Menu key and we have now integrated old two different menus to one and only menu including everyhting. pretty usable.

    2008-12-02 09:37:22.0

ok friends, i am signing off...goodnight

    2008-12-02 09:37:52.0

At the risk of being labeled impatient (:P)

Will the N97 completely fill the gap when it comes to basic computing?

To put it in another way, how handicapped will I be without my laptop (netbook) but with a N97?

    2008-12-02 09:38:32.0

    night night.

    2008-12-02 09:38:33.0

@adittyasinghvi, Takes better picture, you can make calls, and A-GPS+Compass with Maps to get you there, also internet access does not depend on WLAN

    2008-12-02 09:38:43.0

Ahh that change make sense and yeah sure it will bring more productivity.BTW then this is the only physical key on the top sliding part right?

    2008-12-02 09:39:02.0

i have 1 uestion when can apple fanboys plan on smashing there iphone to get a n97 ? lol

    2008-12-02 09:39:02.0

Will the N97 feature focusing during video capture?

    2008-12-02 09:39:14.0

@ravindra; yes, it is only physical key on the top sliding part

    2008-12-02 09:39:49.0

@brain, now if you want to, but 1H '09 we will have N97 to fill in your communication needs:)

    2008-12-02 09:40:05.0

@Mr.X Focus is static on video

    2008-12-02 09:40:34.0

does the web browser support tabbed browsing now?

    2008-12-02 09:40:40.0

@adit...; sry, no we don't have it

    2008-12-02 09:41:20.0

Will N-Gage require the hardware buttons for operation? I can't see myself playing N-Gage on a non-multitouch screen; it's practically impossible.

    2008-12-02 09:41:58.0

@Tomoharu,Why the Xenon flash is missing on newer Nokia deviceswhile on the N82 it was the main point for its success as a imaging device,so is it all regarding the power consumption??

    2008-12-02 09:41:58.0

will there be a pink N97 avaliable? It would be a nice touch:)

    2008-12-02 09:42:14.0

    @ Tomi

that's a bit necessary on this..

    2008-12-02 09:42:24.0

@superious; yeah, my wife is asking excatly same. will see, pressure is there !

    2008-12-02 09:42:53.0

yeah, it will be good to have magenta:)

    2008-12-02 09:43:21.0

    @ Mari or Jorg,

How much more integration is Nokia looking at with respect to the Maps functionality?

    2008-12-02 09:43:25.0

@Ravindra, Dual LED is in N97.  And it can be used in video capture.

    2008-12-02 09:43:46.0

@adityasinghvi: can you please clarify what you mean by integration, integration to what?

    2008-12-02 09:45:26.0

@Mr.X, For N-Gage, we'll see what time will bring:)

    2008-12-02 09:45:37.0

There was a certain line of difference in the quality of materials used on  E and N series in the past,E-series ones were always better than the N-series outfits, but the N97 is more like a Hybrid of these two series,so how about the materials used in this device?

    2008-12-02 09:46:03.0

    @ Mari,

integration with respect to handsets now and future, and services like Ovi and any other 3rd party?

    2008-12-02 09:46:14.0

Has there been any work done on GPS accuracy? Its still a problem on Nseries devices.

    2008-12-02 09:49:11.0

@Ravindra, weight, feel, color, qualities all plays role in our material selection.

    2008-12-02 09:49:14.0

@sheridan01, N97 has A-GPS and compass.  Accuracy depends on satellite situation.

    2008-12-02 09:50:30.0

Hi all, just joined! In terms of the overall audiovisual experience, what's new on the N97 vs existing music phones?

    2008-12-02 09:50:55.0

    hi
i know the chance of this question already being asked is high but ill ask anyway, how much will the handset be?

    2008-12-02 09:51:03.0

@Tomoharu,About the Xenon vs LED,is it just the video, the reason behind ommiting the Xenon from this??

    2008-12-02 09:51:09.0

we have allowed S60 developers to use the integrated GPS for applications already. For example there are geotagging applications by 3rd parties as well as applications developed by Nokia that add the geo loacation images. We are constantly looking for innovating new ways to enhance the user experience and not just add something for the sake of adding things. Check out our Beta Labs site for more examples.

    2008-12-02 09:51:31.0

I know it has A-GPS just like the N95 and N85 etc but my point is that the accuracy for navigation is still an issue when compared to garmin etc.

    2008-12-02 09:51:54.0

Then, does nokia has any plan for the other GNSS Technologies on the phone rather than the GPS?

    e.g. GLONASS, GALILEO

    2008-12-02 09:52:26.0

@joshy, estimated price before tax is expected to be about 550 euro

    2008-12-02 09:52:30.0

@happymind; A-GPS plus integrated compass now in one device

    2008-12-02 09:53:36.0

@Ravindra, we hade dual LED flash that is good for video, and can be used in photos

    2008-12-02 09:53:56.0

Can anyone please tell me when Nokia e63 will be released in USA. I am eagerly waiting for the device. I am sure I am not the only one.

    Thanks

    2008-12-02 09:54:16.0

    2008-12-02 09:54:43.0

    2008-12-02 09:54:48.0

@Tomi,is the TAT(The Astonishing Tribe) involved in the introduction of widgets on the N97?

    2008-12-02 09:55:25.0

    @ Mark,

This being Nokia's first Nseries device, how difficult will it be to separate it from the Eseries?

    2008-12-02 09:55:27.0

I think not every region I could have AGPS service now..

    2008-12-02 09:55:36.0

Mr.X, TV-out will be on 16:9 aspect ratio
