@Hasan OEztas Nokia LifeviNe is a life tracking application that we've created on top of sports tracker. It will be publicly available in a few weeks, so you can use it and send us your feedback. The main idea is to track your routes (for example shoping) and tag all the media you take or consume over the journey on to that route. Currently in alpha you can tag videos, music tags, photos and voice recordings to the route. Additional features will follow soon as we develop the software. Please note that LifeviNe will not replace sports tracker, rather its a new different version of it. You can choose which you want to use and for what purpose

@ rafeblandford: The inspiration for the N79 was taking personalization from the physical to the digital blur. A good example is the exchangable backcovers where the theme colours match the covers. Also the overall design language was evolving into a more expressive and personal design elements.

There've been rumours about IP telephony changes in the latest Nseries phones. So will for example Fring work as it has worked before? And how about SIP clients (such as Truphone)?

@gomcoite There are several significant improvement on the power management side e.g. music playback time on Nokia N79 is now up to 30hours or you can watch upto 7hours of video on the Nokia N85

@TechKnowPodcast: While we haven't increased the megapixel count, we have improved the holistic imaging experience in all of our new Nokia Nseries devices and utilizing geotagging of pictures, LED flash for video recording. In addition, we have Carl Zeiss lenses across the entire Nokia Nseries portfolio.

@Nokia Jonas Ovi is clearly a very important part of the Nseries offering now. When it launched a year ago one of the key promises was its openess. @Burak: I do appreciate your dilemma. I believe that the design features in all our Nseries range devices have a very good usability. In the design process, we constantly do usability research where we define the best interaction for each of our products in our broad portfolio.

How long does it take to get a GPS fix on these new handsets?  Even quicker than the 6220?

@steelex The performance is a combination of powermanagement in the HW and SW and the size of the battery. This is a continious balance and we belive that combining 30hours of music playback time in a sleek package as N79 is quite impressive

@ Axel - I really love the N85 design. Simply Amazing.

N82 xenon flash works very well, controls over- and underexposure well.

N73 LED flash overexposed the center of the image and underexposed the edges.

Has the new LED technology really caught a small xenon flash, is light distribution even across the image without overexposing parts of it? Is the flash of N85 equal in performance with N82?

@Mustis There is significant improvement on the LED flash performance thanks to the DualLED flash (two LEDs) and improvements in the brightness of the LEDs.

@rafeblandford N79 is improving on the N78. It adds a great opportunity to personalize your device by changable back covers and a unique feature that also enables the colour of the "display theme" to change automatically when you change your back cover. serious in the day time and fun in the evening...

@jcrajan00 It is difficult to compare directly xenon and LED flash.  E.g. LED can be used for video.  Xenon produces extremely short light impulse, and it stops the movement very precicely.  LED can produce the same illumination, but it must take longer time for that.

what happened to the 3d/2d acceleration chip used in the nokia n95 - why it is not used anymore in 96/85 range since they are said to follow n95?

@steelx E.g. N85 has very excellent operation times.  30 hours music playback time, 7 hours of video playback.  Our use cases show that battery performance with normal usage is very easily achiavable for one day.

@Nokia Pasi yes N85 is good because it has 1200 mAh battery, but why N96 has only 950mAh why not 1200 also. I think N85 is the best Nokia phone today, full of features on reasonable price.

@Nokia: Are Xpress-on covers coming to Nseries more widely? It's interesting to note until now you've just had a couple of colour options, If I remember correctly.

@Nokia Jonas - yes CwM would be nice with these products. Patience I guess. Also, generally, shame we couldn't have the 5 euro cent kick-stand (N96) on the other products.

From a technical point of view how are the N79 Xpress-on covers smart? Some kind of ID-chip? Will the specs be released so there is the possibility of third party smart covers?

@Ant @ Fresh Plastic: In most use cases OLED display consumes only 30-40% of the power required for LCD display.  it has certain effect also on operation times   Power consumption of OLED display depends on content on the screen, LCD takes always the same power. The darker the screen is, the less OLED display consumes. 

What about after N96? Will we see a touchscreen N series? Or will the touchscreen models be a totally different series?

What does lifeveNe mean in english? i believe its a Finnish word like ovi?

@TeroL Personalisation is definately a trend we are seeing. This can be addressed by changable covers, downloadable applications and accessories. By todate consumers have downloaded close to 90 million applications and pieces of content using the "Download" application on Nokia phones

@Nokia Axel - remade please soon (will fee less guilty about shiny toys) - or how about having a default install of we:offset that has an extra function - carbon offset the manufacturing impact of the handset itself

is there a new headphone plug design for these devices? the standard plug is too big. Bose  had a nice short plug, for example.

When a new NSeries phone like N79 or N85 is released, how long can I expect to get new firmware releases for it? Is it 2 years, aligned with the warranty?

@ Axel - Does Nokia first lay the features and then work on the design or is the design first made and then the features packed in?

@LOG we will introduce touch in several pricepoints accross the portfolio. As a matter of fact we have had the first Nseries touch screen products in the market already for quite some time in the Nokia N810 Internet Tablet

Have you addressed the the security issues of hacking/modding the firmware to install the unsigned apps. in these phones

@pablopoo The devices have a 3,5mm jack that enables you to plug in any standard headsets or speakers from Nokia or other manufacturers. This is the benefit of using a standard interface!

Why Nokia has only 5 meg camera, in Samsung innov8 there is 8 meg camera and it takes better photos

We start defining of the experiences they want in the future and which services they need to make this a reality. Then, we start designing the device concept.

n85 because it should be cheaper then the n96, is a double-slider with n-gage compatibility, and oled i guess

N85 as it has the must-haves of the N96 plus USB charging and OLED. More pocketable than N96 too.  Although I do prefer the styling of the N79

@symbianguru dedicated music chip and HW accelerator for video makes it great for entertainment so its not just about the size of the battery

but n85 has these chips too, right?

@sigma421: We are taking a more holistic approach on imaging by using the dual super bright LED flash to have a fantastic illumination for video shooting as well as for still images.

@deathbrin - yes, if the devices are close enough, the fm transmitter can be used to share music with a phone that has an fm receiver

I rather like the N79 myself, I remember what N73 did for Nseries - hope N79 follows in its footsteps That said the N85 is a very nice evolution of dual slider. Course we know its all about software and services now. <switch Ovi brain washing on>

@Nokia Jonas - I agree wholeheartedly that the dedicated music and video features offer a great entertainment experience. I'm just remembering back to my N95-1, which had the same 950mAh battery, and with moderate usage, I was lucky to make it to lunch. Add a bigger screen, internal memory, and other power-hungry features to the N96, I'm really confused as to why it still has the same underpowered battery.

No matter, the N85 offers the same package, with better battery and display.

Why is the N79 styled completely different than every other Nseries device since the N81 and N82? It seems odd that this one breaks from the Nseries family visually.

You get dedicated media keys for music and video, you can use these for gaming without giving up any usability for messaging and phone functionality

Is the Slider Wobble issues fixed on N96 and N85,or is it the same as the N95?

dual slider is excellent, though i would like to see an n81 form factor phone in the future because it is a bit better for gaming and the media keys are still there

I agree the Dual slider is the best space usage I've seen on Nokia other than E90,But dont you think that the slider mechanism should be improved?

@Ravindra - the Xpress-on smart covers have a sensor in them that the n79 device recognizes and can automatically switch to the respective color matching theme

@symbianguru - there are no announcements to make at this time regarding when the Nokia Music Store will be available in the US, but when it is, these devices will support it.  the devices also work with 3rd party music services based on Windows Media DRM

How secure is the technology behind the chip in the x-press on covers?  Could a dodgy cover cause something dodgy to happen on phone (instead of just switching theme)?

the n800 internet tabler was great btw, n810 lacks the joypad usage without having to open the keyboard, and lacks the fancy webcamera that you could shoot pics with, rotating it and using 3rd party software

@solitaire We have been working on Linux in the Nseries range via the Internet Tablets. Have a look at the Nokia N810, its a great tablet based in Linux operating system

@Ravindra - consumer analysis revealed that the pencil key button was not used enough to warrant the extra space.  all pencil key functionality can still be accessed on the Nseries devices without pencil key, which provides more physical keypad consolidation

I disagree. The N96 backplate feels cheap - no texture. Even the N95 8gb had texture

Kickstand is a good example of how we believe that the use of sharing and viewing media matters to people. So definately we are looking into innovative ways how to make a most adaptable multimedia computer for people.

I am personally all for massive memory and therefore I go with the N96 and its 16GB integrated memory + the flexibility with a memorycard. On the other hand N85 is a really sleek package so if you are ok with less memory it might be somthing to consider

Battery life is a big issue with gaming too - some n-gage games really drain the battery. 2 recharges during DD

@Ravindra@Symbian-Life blog For sure geotagging is using some power but not much as the device only turns on the GPS when it needs it. The big enabler is really the A-GPS which gives you a fast fix in most conditions without keeping the power on the GPS for a long time

About the Kick stand,as this is a physical component that might be used very frequently it should be made out of some great material and should be less succeptible to scratches.So will it be?
