    2008-08-26 01:09:43.0

    hi techknowpodcast -- which videos?

    2008-08-26 01:12:54.0

I think, that he want to download all of the videos from mainpage; )

    2008-08-26 01:15:37.0

In one of the videos, you mentioned that the N96 flagship model will come with upto 24GB of storage, are you saying an 8GB MicroSD is the maximum extra storage allowed, or would a 16GB MicroSD will, (When released of course)?

    2008-08-26 01:18:06.0

there is no standby and talk time on the product comparison pages, what are they and can you update the page

    2008-08-26 01:18:47.0

    thats right 24 GB = 8 + 16 GB

    2008-08-26 01:18:59.0

    ok, thanks

    2008-08-26 01:20:24.0

    2008-08-26 01:25:38.0

It looks like the great Web-Chat with all Symbian Freak people from the world in one place in one time;) , for "Virtual Event" we have to wait for Q & A service i think

    2008-08-26 01:26:04.0

Bah, that's a bit beyond when I stay up. 14 CET is 4am PDT

    2008-08-26 01:27:31.0

    2008-08-26 01:28:18.0

does anybody know if nokias gps is locked to nokias own program or can you use it with other programs also?

    2008-08-26 01:30:42.0

hyvi - it works perfectly with google maps

    2008-08-26 01:32:31.0

and Garmin maps too..I see lots of people using that

    2008-08-26 01:38:12.0

thanks paulf. i might just get one these nokias gps phone. could be very useful when i'll go to belgium as exchange student

    2008-08-26 01:38:59.0

Disappointed with the ram capacity... earlier N82 already has 128MB, but N85 only 74MB, N79 only 50MB.

    2008-08-26 01:57:04.0

Yeah Nokia makes some strange decisions sometimes

    2008-08-26 01:59:35.0

even the build quality is going down

    2008-08-26 02:01:15.0

    strange things

    2008-08-26 02:01:24.0

Is this session going to start?  Is Nokia here?

    2008-08-26 02:05:45.0

belief: where do you get that information? If its true it really is disappointing

    2008-08-26 02:05:53.0

The ram size is stated in the technical specification.

    2008-08-26 02:07:39.0

Nokia will be here at 14:00 according to the left side panel

    2008-08-26 02:12:20.0

Yep, I think its unforgivable to put so little ram capacity into new phones when older models has a lot more.

    2008-08-26 02:16:45.0

I don't want to pay 500 euros from a slow phone

    2008-08-26 02:29:57.0

so when does the Q&A start?

    2008-08-26 03:00:12.0

first session starts in one hour

    2008-08-26 03:07:50.0

    thanks for the update

    2008-08-26 03:16:00.0

I can't be there so can some one ask for me how is the over all speed of the N85? For example if you have a lot of pics on your memory card, is it slow to scroll them?

    2008-08-26 03:39:26.0

dude even Nokia Maps 2.0 is damn slow on N82

    2008-08-26 03:42:25.0

I think that's also becouse of satellite connection

    2008-08-26 03:47:10.0

have a great one, I'm off to work

    2008-08-26 03:47:33.0

    2008-08-26 03:49:14.0

    Hi Pasi

    2008-08-26 03:56:05.0

Sorry for my question, but could you tell us sth , about Nokia 5800 "Tube" ?:) (release date?)

    2008-08-26 03:58:42.0

    atleast some hint

    2008-08-26 03:59:39.0

    Laughing

    2008-08-26 03:59:49.0

time to hit some questions! Jonas, Axel and pasi are waiting for your posts

    2008-08-26 04:00:52.0

by Christmas is what i've heard

    2008-08-26 04:01:06.0

Hello and welcome to this interactive session to discuss about our latest Nokia Nseries products. Over to you!

    2008-08-26 04:01:37.0

Only really dedicated people are still on here waiting

    2008-08-26 04:01:52.0

Why did it take so long for N96 to mature? Or Why such a big gap between its Announcement and Release?

    2008-08-26 04:01:55.0

you have decreased the RAM specifications on the phones (N79 and N85), what is the main reason?

    2008-08-26 04:02:44.0

Hello Jonas , could you tell us sth , about Nokia 5800 "Tube" ?:) (release date? or sth small hint)

    2008-08-26 04:02:46.0

Why did you got for exchangeable covers in the nokia n79?

    2008-08-26 04:03:20.0

    Are both the N79 and N85 N-gage compatible ?

    2008-08-26 04:04:08.0

@gomcoite We wanted to share early the exiting product as it is the first product introducing DVB-H as a feature into a Nseries flagship.

    2008-08-26 04:04:13.0

People ,we must slow down;), there is a lot of question to them:) ,we must wait;)

    2008-08-26 04:04:33.0

Why did you choose to go with Dual LED flash on all three devices but not xenon ?

    2008-08-26 04:05:11.0

@clintonjeff Yes, both N79 and N85 are N-gage compatible and it is offered inbox

    2008-08-26 04:05:28.0

You have released a phone with DVB-H, but many markets especially UK won't be able to use the technology?

    2008-08-26 04:05:50.0

@ Axel, I guess N85 and N96 share a same path on design. Why?

    2008-08-26 04:06:05.0

Can you tell me more about Nokia LifeviNe? Or maybe an Alpha Invite?

    2008-08-26 04:06:11.0

@Mateusz Kurowski We will have a touch product later this year, keep on waiting Smile Today we are exited about Nokia N79 and N85 Laughing

    2008-08-26 04:06:41.0

What about "accidentally pressing play button" issue? It's the worst flaw of Nokia N81 and the design seems to be the same.

    2008-08-26 04:06:58.0

@MisterL: We believe that personalization is very relevant to people. As an example, we introduce here  exchangable backcovers that change the digital design or the theme on the display of the device as well.

    2008-08-26 04:07:11.0

    +1 on Alpha Invites!

    2008-08-26 04:07:37.0

@Nokia Axel - what were the inspirations / design story behind the design of the N79? It is rather different to some of the other recent Nseries e.g. materials, Navi-wheel implementation, multimedia key on opposite side - curious to understand the path to this.

    2008-08-26 04:07:47.0

@clintonjeff LED can be used also for video, overall power consumtion is more feasible in all-in-one device and finally, dual LED with the latest technology offer sufficient lighting for still imaging and video.  E.g. N85 has ~3 times more efficient lighting compared to N95

    2008-08-26 04:08:31.0

Can you tell us if we'll see some of the new E-series features on these or future nokia N-series devices in the near future ? For example, the better calender application, and contact search on dialing screen on the E71

    2008-08-26 04:08:45.0

Can i ask for one little question outgoing for the "N85,N79,N96" ? , i was very interested in one thing , what you were made a few years ago. Could you tell me the real cause of cancel the Nokia 7700 Model?

    2008-08-26 04:08:53.0

@ Jonas - Why Red Pandas for N96 SE?

    2008-08-26 04:09:23.0

@Nokia Axel- A lot of new phones are going for a higher Mega Pixel camera some phones are using 7 or 8 MP Cameras. You have increased them from phones like the N81, why did you choose no to go "all the way" and try for an 8 Mega Pixel?

    2008-08-26 04:09:43.0

lol i'm still pretty sure the 7700 was cancelled because of sidetalking @mateusz:P

    2008-08-26 04:09:46.0

@Hasan OEztas It is a lLifestyle evolution of Nokia's Sportstracker

    2008-08-26 04:09:47.0

@ Burak: We are constantly improving our designs. We have changed the activation principles for the media keys in the Nokia Nseries to avoid accidental key pressings.

    2008-08-26 04:09:50.0

@Dmullholland Even if DVB-H networks are not available in all countries the product also supports watching downloaded videos, streaming TV and user generated content.

    2008-08-26 04:10:41.0

@pasi:I think that since the release of the flagship N95 to these new flagships N96 and N85 Nokia havn't changed much or added many new features. Are you holding something back for a release soon or have the development been harder this time?

    2008-08-26 04:10:50.0

Could you guys also tell us the real reason why you have done away with the pencil button and gallery button in the newer n-series devices ? They used to come in pretty useful lol.

    2008-08-26 04:10:59.0

@Hasan OEztas Nokia LifeviNe is a life tracking application that we've created on top of sports tracker. It will be publicly available in a few weeks, so you can use it and send us your feedback. The main idea is to track your routes (for example shoping) and tag all the media you take or consume over the journey on to that route. Currently in alpha you can tag videos, music tags, photos and voice recordings to the route. Additional features will follow soon as we develop the software. Please note that LifeviNe will not replace sports tracker, rather its a new different version of it. You can choose which you want to use and for what purpose

    2008-08-26 04:11:23.0

will your touch product be an iphone killer or just another addition to the nokia gallery

    2008-08-26 04:11:36.0

@Axel: what about larger keys found in N93, N95, etc.? Why did you go slimmer in models like N78? We geeks have fat fingers:)

    2008-08-26 04:11:46.0

@gomcoite red pandas was a perfect fit with the facethetask.com campaign and it was a collobaration with WWF

    2008-08-26 04:12:08.0

@Nina-Nokia thx, sounds very good.. can you share alpha invites to bloggers?

    2008-08-26 04:12:30.0

@ Axel, I guess N85 and N96 share a same path on design. Why?

    2008-08-26 04:12:47.0

@allwise There is a clear evolution from previous devices, e.g. N-gage, geotagging, OLED display, DVB-H, HS USB, USB charging, SUperbright LED flash, Intelligent key illumintation etc.

    2008-08-26 04:13:05.0

i sure wish i had the lifeviNe application right now...will be travelling to north india this weekend and it would have been awesome to track my journey there lol. Taj mahal or bust !

    2008-08-26 04:13:44.0

And about browser performance: is it getting close to iPhone's? Is it faster to scroll and zoom or still sluggish? Featurewise, N and E series beat iPhone but when it comes to browsing experience, Nokia fails.

    2008-08-26 04:13:44.0

And , one more, connected with N96, there is any chance to get the test unit of N96/N76/N85 in few couples of week? Prototypes or trial unit;)

    2008-08-26 04:13:54.0

@Mateus Kurowski Please get in touch with your local Nokia communications manager

    2008-08-26 04:14:59.0

any comment about browser performance anyone?

    2008-08-26 04:18:28.0

@ rafeblandford: The inspiration for the N79 was taking personalization from the physical to the digital blur. A good example is the exchangable backcovers where the theme colours match the covers. Also the overall design language was evolving into a more expressive and personal design elements.

    2008-08-26 04:18:49.0

@Nokia Axel- A lot of new phones are going for a higher Mega Pixel camera some phones are using 7 or 8 MP Cameras. You have increased them from phones like the N81, why did you choose not to go "all the way" and try for an 8 Mega Pixel?

    2008-08-26 04:19:16.0

After N95 there doesn't seem to be any giant leap in features of your products..  Do you have any plan for the next giant leap in features..

    2008-08-26 04:19:32.0

With all these features you elaborated, it is seen that the battery life is often compromised. What do these devices have apart OLED to extend batterylife with so many packed features

    2008-08-26 04:19:36.0

    +1 on the OLED question

    2008-08-26 04:20:42.0

On the same line as the question Burak asked.. What is new with "Now made by hand". Is it something upcoming or is it included in these releases?

    2008-08-26 04:21:15.0

@Burak We're constantly improving our browser and we think Nokia browser is competitive.

    2008-08-26 04:21:32.0

    +1 on one hand question

    2008-08-26 04:21:48.0

Is the browser included in these handsets based on either the Opera Mini or Opera Mobile browsers?

    2008-08-26 04:22:13.0

@Nokia Pasi , could anybody answer for my previous question about 7700? ? :>

    2008-08-26 04:22:17.0

    Hello?

    2008-08-26 04:22:34.0

There've been rumours about IP telephony changes in the latest Nseries phones. So will for example Fring work as it has worked before? And how about SIP clients (such as Truphone)?

    2008-08-26 04:23:02.0

@gomcoite There are several significant improvement on the power management side e.g. music playback time on Nokia N79 is now up to 30hours or you can watch upto 7hours of video on the Nokia N85

    2008-08-26 04:23:11.0

@TechKnowPodcast: While we haven't increased the megapixel count, we have improved the holistic imaging experience in all of our new Nokia Nseries devices and utilizing geotagging of pictures, LED flash for video recording. In addition, we have Carl Zeiss lenses across the entire Nokia Nseries portfolio.

    2008-08-26 04:23:24.0

@Dmulholland These handsets are based on S60 browser

    2008-08-26 04:23:47.0

@Nokia Jonas Ovi is clearly a very important part of the Nseries offering now. When it launched a year ago one of the key promises was its openess. Outside Share online there's been little interaction with third party services. Is integration with and use of 3rd party services still a key part of the vision of Nseries / Ovi? [I guess part of this is waiting for the PC and Web elements too]

    2008-08-26 04:23:50.0

Will we see Regional Variants of these devices?

    2008-08-26 04:24:23.0

    There is ShoZu

    2008-08-26 04:24:27.0

@gomcoite: yes, they are from the same product family.

    2008-08-26 04:25:06.0

Why in N96 is so poor battery?

    2008-08-26 04:26:22.0

@TeroL VoIP is important for Nokia Nseries, thats why we are continiously improving it and we are working with 3rd party developers to bring VoIP clients to all the latest devices

    2008-08-26 04:26:36.0

Any Plans for making CDMA Version of these? For Eg:- Compatible with Verizon Network

    2008-08-26 04:26:40.0

@Nokia - Have you managed to try a pre release Sandisk 16GB MicroSD for compatibilities studies at all with these new devices?

    2008-08-26 04:26:53.0

@gomcoite yes the products will be available globally

    2008-08-26 04:27:20.0

@gomcoite Both products are based on WCDMA technology and there are no plans to make them available on CDMA networks

    2008-08-26 04:28:17.0

@steelx Due the music and video accelerator it consumes less power than N95

    2008-08-26 04:28:20.0

@Nokia Jonas: But nowadays anyone can install Fring or Truphone, etc. That's the idea of S60. Will these apps work in the future too?

    2008-08-26 04:28:26.0

Is the new dual led flash as bright as the xenon flash on i.e. N82 or 6220 classic?

    2008-08-26 04:29:01.0

Why don't you maximize battery performance because it's the only weakness in nokia phones?

    2008-08-26 04:29:13.0

@Micky we are always testing the latest available memory cards from all memorycard manufacturers Smile

    2008-08-26 04:29:28.0

@Burak: I do appreciate your dilemma. I believe that the design features in all our Nseries range devices have a very good usability. In the design process, we constantly do usability research where we define the best interaction for each of our products in our broad portfolio.

    2008-08-26 04:29:38.0

Maybe using the new technology that is coming with motion charging, whichcould charge a a cell phone using the built-in accelerometer

    2008-08-26 04:30:20.0

    @Nokia Jonas Thanks:)

    2008-08-26 04:30:44.0

Could you guys also tell us the real reason why you have done away with the pencil button and gallery button in the newer n-series devices ?

    2008-08-26 04:30:47.0

How long does it take to get a GPS fix on these new handsets?  Even quicker than the 6220?

    2008-08-26 04:31:13.0

@steelex The performance is a combination of powermanagement in the HW and SW and the size of the battery. This is a continious balance and we belive that combining 30hours of music playback time in a sleek package as N79 is quite impressive

    2008-08-26 04:31:17.0

@ Axel - I really love the N85 design. Simply Amazing. Smile

    2008-08-26 04:31:20.0

N82 xenon flash works very well, controls over- and underexposure well.

N73 LED flash overexposed the center of the image and underexposed the edges.

Has the new LED technology really caught a small xenon flash, is light distribution even across the image without overexposing parts of it? Is the flash of N85 equal in performance with N82?

    2008-08-26 04:31:27.0

yeah we need the gallery button

    2008-08-26 04:31:27.0

@gomcoite: Thank you very much! I am sure my design team will appreciate reactions like yours:)

    2008-08-26 04:32:32.0

@Mustis There is significant improvement on the LED flash performance thanks to the DualLED flash (two LEDs) and improvements in the brightness of the LEDs.

    2008-08-26 04:32:45.0

yeah n85 is awesome its true

    2008-08-26 04:32:47.0

@Ant @ Fresh Plastic:With assisted mode it can be around 20 seconds.

    2008-08-26 04:33:27.0

I'm curious about the N78 vs N79? These products seem to occupy a similar space / price point with the N79 adding a few significant hardware advantages. Where does this leave the N78? For the less style conscious;) ...

    2008-08-26 04:33:37.0

Well guys, I have to go, many thanks for answering the questions i have asked, look forward to future Q&A's

    2008-08-26 04:33:43.0

Is dual LED's performance is superior to xenon flash

    2008-08-26 04:33:49.0

I guess not, it only enhances battery life. what say?

    2008-08-26 04:34:32.0

Is it for batterylife you are not having higherWhy do these new devices have the 320x240 resolution on the display?

    2008-08-26 04:35:41.0

iPhone lasts 10 hours talk in 2g net...hope that could be the standard, because it's hard to charge phone everyday..I repeat batteries are the only weakness in Nokia phones.

    2008-08-26 04:35:48.0

@ clintonjeff: We are constantly improving the interaction design of our devices simplifying the UI design of our devices.

    2008-08-26 04:37:02.0

@rafeblandford N79 is improving on the N78. It adds a great opportunity to personalize your device by changable back covers and a unique feature that also enables the colour of the "display theme" to change automatically when you change your back cover. serious in the day time and fun in the evening...Tongue out

    2008-08-26 04:37:14.0

@jcrajan00 It is difficult to compare directly xenon and LED flash.  E.g. LED can be used for video.  Xenon produces extremely short light impulse, and it stops the movement very precicely.  LED can produce the same illumination, but it must take longer time for that.

    2008-08-26 04:37:24.0

what happened to the 3d/2d acceleration chip used in the nokia n95 - why it is not used anymore in 96/85 range since they are said to follow n95?

    2008-08-26 04:37:34.0

@ All Nokia Delegates : Which device out of the three do you like the most?

    2008-08-26 04:39:14.0

@ gomcoite: I love all three of them for different reasons.

    2008-08-26 04:40:16.0

N96 only 5,5 hour talking not so good when compared to iPhones 10 hour. Nokia has successed in india and africa, do you think they want to charge phones all the times there.

    2008-08-26 04:40:19.0

@gomcoite My absolute personal favorite is Nokia N96, massive memory and a big display is my thing Wink

    2008-08-26 04:40:20.0

I see that you dont want to answer my questions about 7700 OK. There is any sight on the earth or the sky that Nokia N96 will win fight with the Samsung Innov8?

    2008-08-26 04:40:57.0

    Thank you for your reply.

@ Axel : Can we have the individual reasons for them?

    2008-08-26 04:41:36.0

@steelx E.g. N85 has very excellent operation times.  30 hours music playback time, 7 hours of video playback.  Our use cases show that battery performance with normal usage is very easily achiavable for one day.

    2008-08-26 04:41:50.0

@goncoite N85, excellent for gaming, OLED display..

    2008-08-26 04:41:57.0

Will these phones support unlimited streaming from Nokia Music Store at a flat rate?

    2008-08-26 04:42:55.0

Since you all have been with these devices right from the start, what was the most challenging part in their development?

    2008-08-26 04:43:43.0

    Thank you Pasi

    2008-08-26 04:44:03.0

@Nokia Pasi yes N85 is good because it has 1200 mAh battery, but why N96 has only 950mAh why not 1200 also. I think N85 is the best Nokia phone today, full of features on reasonable price.

    2008-08-26 04:44:44.0

@Mateusz Kurowski The Nokia 7700 is history and not too much to say Surprised. Nokia N96 is a unique combination of features such as massive memory and services such as out of the box integration with voice guided navigation, powerfull gaming and music store

    2008-08-26 04:45:00.0

@Nokia Pasi, which one is your favourite NSeries device and why?

    2008-08-26 04:45:01.0

@gomcoite To make all features in such a compact and small package, withouth compromising performance (including operation times) or features

    2008-08-26 04:45:40.0

    what was openatownrisk.com?

    2008-08-26 04:45:47.0

@ gomcoite: Yes, you can:) The N79 I love because of the compactness of its design, very sophisticated details like the sliding lens cap and the design of the materials & colors. I believe the N85 is our more versatile entertainment device. The N96 is the most powerful multimedia computer with innovations, such as the kickstand, to share your discoveries.;)

    2008-08-26 04:45:55.0

    Thank You Smile

    2008-08-26 04:46:46.0

@Mustis N85 is my favourite, OLED display, compact size, two-way slider concept, fantastic LED flash with micro-optics, excellent operation times..

    2008-08-26 04:47:16.0

@ pablopoo its OpenAtOwnRisk.com  (no Your) lol Wink

    2008-08-26 04:47:28.0

Kick stand Smile, a nice innovation but we are expecting more than that

    2008-08-26 04:47:36.0

@allwise The products are compatible with the Nokia Music store. Unlimited streaming is available for PC streaming only but another exiting solution is the Comes With Music initiative where the consumer gets access to all music in the world included in the price of the product

    2008-08-26 04:47:44.0

@Nokia Pasi I agree..N85 is the best, it's just engineers opinion.

    2008-08-26 04:47:56.0

Pasi, could you tell me more information about Nokia 5800 , it is true that it has got a Symbian Operating system 5th generation?, and do we will expected them in 2008 year, or propably in next? , Why are you decided to make next Touch-Screen phone, when you are only has got 2 mobile phones previous? (7700 , 7710) ?( i don't giving a 6708 because is a Benq phone with your sticker only) , When Nokia 5800 will be announcement ?

    2008-08-26 04:48:09.0

Does using an OLED instead of an LCD make a significant difference to battery life?

    2008-08-26 04:48:25.0

@Nokia: Are Xpress-on covers coming to Nseries more widely? It's interesting to note until now you've just had a couple of colour options, If I remember correctly.

    2008-08-26 04:48:26.0

@Nokia Jonas - yes CwM would be nice with these products. Patience I guess. Also, generally, shame we couldn't have the 5 euro cent kick-stand (N96) on the other products.

    2008-08-26 04:48:33.0

From a technical point of view how are the N79 Xpress-on covers smart? Some kind of ID-chip? Will the specs be released so there is the possibility of third party smart covers?

    2008-08-26 04:48:53.0

    has N85 easily scratching display?

    2008-08-26 04:49:06.0

@Mateusz Kurowski: Today we're very excited on N79, N85 and N96.  Which on do you like best?

    2008-08-26 04:49:16.0

Will these products feature any REMADE material concept?

    2008-08-26 04:49:24.0

@rafeblandford yes the covers include a chip enabling the device to recognize it

    2008-08-26 04:50:11.0

    @ gomcoite: Not yet.

    2008-08-26 04:50:55.0

@Nokia Pasi, from that the N96 is the best for me, i like that design . Could you tell us how many integrated RAM memory is it in? (and in other new Nseries phone?)

    2008-08-26 04:51:04.0

@Ant @ Fresh Plastic: In most use cases OLED display consumes only 30-40% of the power required for LCD display.  it has certain effect also on operation times;)   Power consumption of OLED display depends on content on the screen, LCD takes always the same power. The darker the screen is, the less OLED display consumes.

    2008-08-26 04:52:04.0
    LOG

What about after N96? Will we see a touchscreen N series? Or will the touchscreen models be a totally different series?

    2008-08-26 04:52:16.0

What does lifeveNe mean in english? i believe its a Finnish word like ovi?

    2008-08-26 04:52:28.0

@TeroL Personalisation is definately a trend we are seeing. This can be addressed by changable covers, downloadable applications and accessories. By todate consumers have downloaded close to 90 million applications and pieces of content using the "Download" application on Nokia phones

    2008-08-26 04:52:30.0

@Nokia Axel - remade please soon (will fee less guilty about shiny toys) - or how about having a default install of we:offset that has an extra function - carbon offset the manufacturing impact of the handset itself

    2008-08-26 04:52:55.0

+1 Touchscreen Question .. N-Series Touchscreen or not?

    2008-08-26 04:53:46.0

is there a new headphone plug design for these devices? the standard plug is too big. Bose  had a nice short plug, for example.

    2008-08-26 04:53:54.0

When a new NSeries phone like N79 or N85 is released, how long can I expect to get new firmware releases for it? Is it 2 years, aligned with the warranty?

    2008-08-26 04:54:10.0

@ Axel - Does Nokia first lay the features and then work on the design or is the design first made and then the features packed in?

    2008-08-26 04:54:47.0

@LOG we will introduce touch in several pricepoints accross the portfolio. As a matter of fact we have had the first Nseries touch screen products in the market already for quite some time in the Nokia N810 Internet Tablet

    2008-08-26 04:55:57.0

@Mustis We aim to provide updates during the entire product licecycle.

    2008-08-26 04:56:03.0

Have you addressed the the security issues of hacking/modding the firmware to install the unsigned apps. in these phones

I'm sure you have heard of it

    2008-08-26 04:56:54.0

@ rafeblandford: interesting point. At Nokia Design, we are working hard to be able to develop a more sustainable society. And we hope that this becomes contagious;)

    2008-08-26 04:57:13.0

@pablopoo The devices have a 3,5mm jack that enables you to plug in any standard headsets or speakers from Nokia or other manufacturers. This is the benefit of using a standard interface!

    2008-08-26 04:57:31.0

Why Nokia has only 5 meg camera, in Samsung innov8 there is 8 meg camera and it takes better photos

    2008-08-26 04:57:33.0

@Jonas but the Nokia N810 IT is not a Phone;)

    2008-08-26 04:57:35.0

Related to pablopoo's comment; I just wished that there would not be too many different connectors... For example my N95 8GB audio accessories do not fit to Nokia 6220 classic as it has smaller 2,5mm plug...

    2008-08-26 04:58:05.0

@Hasan OEztas no but its a INTERNET TABLET and you can make calls on it Laughing

    2008-08-26 04:58:59.0

@ gomcoite: We first observe the people that we are designing for. We project how their life is going to be in the future and how their lives and behaviours are going to evolve. We start defining of the experiences they want in the future and which services they need to make this a reality. Then, we start designing the device concept.

    2008-08-26 04:59:24.0

can i ask why 3d chipset was dropped from these phones when it was said that future devs would beable to build games supported by it ,just little strange ?

@Jonas iPhone has been released in Turkey, not yet. And touchscreen phones are very popular here. Do you plan on releasing a phone that would compete with iPhone?

+1 to the 3d chipset question

    2008-08-26 05:00:03.0

@steelx We are focusing on overall imaging experience rather than megapixels, Carl Zeiss optics, geotagging and sharing.

    2008-08-26 05:00:12.0

Any improvements to multiple Bluetooth connections on the new handsets?

    it seems to work

    2008-08-26 07:54:48.0

    hello

    2008-08-26 07:58:53.0

Hello and welcome to this interactive session to discuss our new Nseries products. Fire away!

    2008-08-26 08:00:17.0

Does the N79 also feature power charging via microUSB, or only the N85?

    2008-08-26 08:00:48.0

since n79 is out, does it mean that "N7" line is over and we won't see cheap nseries phones in the future?

    2008-08-26 08:01:10.0

    oooh, good question, deathbrin

    2008-08-26 08:01:31.0

@symbianguru No Nokia N79 does not support USB charging only the Nokia N85 does

    2008-08-26 08:01:37.0

What made you finally decide to go for USB charging?

    2008-08-26 08:02:04.0

@Ant @ Fresh Plastic Its really all about driving convergence further to be able to use the same connector for several purposes. You will see this coming on more devices in the future

    2008-08-26 08:03:53.0

Why the does the N79 have different covers?  Didnt the Nokia ´5110 have those?

    2008-08-26 08:04:57.0

@Nokia Jonas - It's something I've missed after a spell with 3's Skypephone. Especially as I keep losing chargers

    2008-08-26 08:05:12.0

@deathbrin N7x is definately not over rather I would say the next chapter is about to beginSmile

    2008-08-26 08:05:32.0

    oh it's interesting

    2008-08-26 08:05:45.0

    thanks

    2008-08-26 08:05:54.0

@Ant @ Fresh Plastic Good to hear that you appreciate it!

    2008-08-26 08:06:08.0

@Nokia Jonas well a cable is easier to carry in a pocket than a charger!

    2008-08-26 08:06:44.0

@misterl - n79 has different covers to support personalization and choice

    2008-08-26 08:07:28.0

Which product out of the three do you like the most and why?

    2008-08-26 08:07:48.0

will it be possible to browse flash video sites like youtube  using standard mobile browser

    2008-08-26 08:08:08.0

The N85's OLED display, tri-band 3G, and microUSB charging put it over the top for me

    2008-08-26 08:08:29.0

Hey Guys, is there any chance of releasing a phoe with the N96 feature set in the N82 (candybar) form-factor?

    2008-08-26 08:08:33.0

I'm Loving The N85 so far...

    2008-08-26 08:09:05.0

n85 because it should be cheaper then the n96, is a double-slider with n-gage compatibility, and oled i guess

    2008-08-26 08:09:19.0

oh and music and video timings

    2008-08-26 08:09:39.0

N85 as it has the must-haves of the N96 plus USB charging and OLED. More pocketable than N96 too.  Although I do prefer the styling of the N79

    2008-08-26 08:09:49.0

@symbianguru My personal favourite is Nokia N96. Massive memory and great display is my story Wink

    2008-08-26 08:09:51.0

So all these phones have build in FM transmitter

    2008-08-26 08:10:12.0

@sigma421: That is exactly what we had in mind when we designed the Nokia N79, the most compact and high-performance Nokia multimedia computer.

    2008-08-26 08:10:18.0

shouldnt oled be considered as a great display

    2008-08-26 08:10:18.0

true but the N96 is crippled by the poor 950mAh battery. What good is a great display if it doesn't have enough power to keep it on?

    2008-08-26 08:10:25.0

@deathbrin OLED is definately great with superb brightness, great viewing angles and lower powerconsumption. My take on N96 is due to the size of display

    2008-08-26 08:11:36.0

@jcrajan00 - the n79 and n85 have built in FM transmitters

    2008-08-26 08:11:51.0

    Nice, great to have that

    2008-08-26 08:12:34.0

built in Fm transmitters is a great feature

    2008-08-26 08:12:43.0

OK I'm liking the N79 so far (I like changeablecovers, I'm so stuck in the late 90s...) but is there any chance of The N82's Xenon flash making a reapperance on future phones. I'm not so keen on LED Flashes

    2008-08-26 08:12:53.0

can fm transmitters be used to share music with another phone?

    2008-08-26 08:12:53.0

    The FM transmitters seen nice:)

    2008-08-26 08:13:17.0

    Has the n85 got a 3d chip?

    2008-08-26 08:13:23.0

@symbianguru dedicated music chip and HW accelerator for video makes it great for entertainment so its not just about the size of the battery

    2008-08-26 08:14:06.0

but n85 has these chips too, right?

    2008-08-26 08:14:51.0

@sigma421: We are taking a more holistic approach on imaging by using the dual super bright LED flash to have a fantastic illumination for video shooting as well as for still images.

    2008-08-26 08:15:26.0

@deathbrin - yes, if the devices are close enough, the fm transmitter can be used to share music with a phone that has an fm receiver

    2008-08-26 08:15:53.0

yeah flash in video thats what i wanted since i switched from my n93

    2008-08-26 08:15:53.0

I rather like the N79 myself, I remember what N73 did for Nseries - hope N79 follows in its footsteps That said the N85 is a very nice evolution of dual slider. Course we know its all about software and services now. <switch Ovi brain washing on>

    2008-08-26 08:15:56.0

Any idea how much longer battery life on the N85 is because of the OLED?

    2008-08-26 08:16:06.0

Nokia Axel: If the brightness is a step up from the N95 it would be a big improvement

    2008-08-26 08:16:18.0

@Nokia Jonas - I agree wholeheartedly that the dedicated music and video features offer a great entertainment experience. I'm just remembering back to my N95-1, which had the same 950mAh battery, and with moderate usage, I was lucky to make it to lunch. Add a bigger screen, internal memory, and other power-hungry features to the N96, I'm really confused as to why it still has the same underpowered battery.

No matter, the N85 offers the same package, with better battery and display.:)

    2008-08-26 08:17:12.0

    @sigma421: absolutely!

    2008-08-26 08:17:14.0

I *do* rather like that both the N79 and N85 will come with N-Gage games pre-installed. Am I correct that I heard each phone will also include a voucher to purchase 1 of these included games, at zero cost?

    2008-08-26 08:18:19.0

    @symbianguru Seems like it

    2008-08-26 08:18:55.0

yeah what is the procedure of getting a free game and do we have a choice which one to get with the device (if its true)

    2008-08-26 08:19:44.0

@superi - the n85 does not have 3d chip support but with OLED display there is great graphics display

    2008-08-26 08:20:18.0

@symbianguru: that is correct, you can try all of the pre-loaded games and there is a voucher inbox entitling for purchasing one game.

    2008-08-26 08:20:46.0

@symbianguru Well this is a good reason why we make more products than on:) In comparison with the N95 the Nokia N96 has significantly improved media playback times. Media playback times for up to 14 hours for music (up from 5 hours on N95) and up to 5 hours for video (up from 3 hours on N95) while the standby times have largely remained consistent.

    2008-08-26 08:21:10.0

what extra features does this new feature pack 2 bring?

    2008-08-26 08:21:30.0

@Nokia Axel that's completely brilliant, bravo for that.

Also, at last count, there are currently 8 US 3G S60 devices announced this year, which is something I never expected to see. Bravo on that front.

    2008-08-26 08:21:33.0

I'm curious as to why some phones, such as the E71, E66, and N85 are announced with US 3G at launch, but the N96 was originally not announced with a US 3G variant.

    2008-08-26 08:22:49.0

Hi,I'm late bit late, why did you decide to follow the same form factor for N85 as it was in N95-1,2 and N96?

    2008-08-26 08:24:58.0

@symbianguru This is alway depending on the market situation in the US and which products we decide to bring there at a certain time

    2008-08-26 08:25:11.0

@superi - feature pack 2 brings an array of developer and consumer improvements.  some of the most notable are high speed usb, run time widgets, full screen caller id images and UI transitions.  for more detailed developer related info, check out http://www.s60.com

    2008-08-26 08:27:14.0

Why is the N79 styled completely different than every other Nseries device since the N81 and N82? It seems odd that this one breaks from the Nseries family visually.

    2008-08-26 08:28:00.0

it looks like n73 to me

    2008-08-26 08:28:34.0

if you go from it like 20m away that would be

    2008-08-26 08:28:51.0

yup is very similar to the n73

    2008-08-26 08:29:16.0

@deathbrin - I think it looks like the bastard child of the N73 *and* the 6220. BTW I mean bastard in a good way!;)

    2008-08-26 08:29:50.0

    n73 + 5500 sport for me

    2008-08-26 08:30:01.0

    the rubber looks

    2008-08-26 08:30:05.0

The top right looks a bit like the cat has chewed it. Though I rather like the look.

    2008-08-26 08:30:47.0

@ Ravindra@Symbian-Life blog The dualslider formfactor has proven very successfull, todate we have sold more than 10million  of these and we think its great for a entertainment focused product such as N85. You get dedicated media keys for music and video, you can use these for gaming without giving up any usability for messaging and phone functionality

    2008-08-26 08:31:02.0

Is the Slider Wobble issues fixed on N96 and N85,or is it the same as the N95?

    2008-08-26 08:31:02.0

dual slider is excellent, though i would like to see an n81 form factor phone in the future because it is a bit better for gaming and the media keys are still there

    2008-08-26 08:31:57.0

I agree the Dual slider is the best space usage I've seen on Nokia other than E90,But dont you think that the slider mechanism should be improved?

    2008-08-26 08:32:19.0

@ Ravindra@Symbian-Life blog We are continiously improving the mechanics and specially the slide mechanism and its spring loading has got a lot of attention by the engineers

    2008-08-26 08:32:57.0

The N96 slider was a big improvement on the N95, I am sure the N85 will be another improvement

    2008-08-26 08:34:00.0

    @deathbrin - agreed, I'd *love* to have a ruggedized S60

    2008-08-26 08:34:03.0

why should i not buy an iphone?

    2008-08-26 08:34:56.0

How does the Color matching thing works on N79,will it work with custom made Xpress covers too?

    2008-08-26 08:35:08.0

any plans for a touchscreen N series device?

    2008-08-26 08:35:30.0

@symbianguru: The Nokia N79 design celebrates personalization, blurring the physical and digital with the full exchangable backcovers affecting the themes in the device display evolving the design of the N79 into a more style-consious statement. We still captured the characteristics of the Nokia Nseries design.

    2008-08-26 08:35:41.0

    @Nokia Axel, fair enough.:)

    2008-08-26 08:36:10.0

How does one turn off BT on these?  What about screen brightness settings?  Usually these are buried deep.

    2008-08-26 08:37:30.0

Given that the N85's tri-band 3G and the N96's newly acquired US 3G position them clearly for the U.S. market, I'm also curious as to the mention of the Nokia Music Store in the data sheets for these devices, since the store is not launched in the U.S. Are there plans to expand to allow us Americans to enjoy anytime access to legal music downloads?

    2008-08-26 08:37:38.0

@Ravindra - the Xpress-on smart covers have a sensor in them that the n79 device recognizes and can automatically switch to the respective color matching theme

    2008-08-26 08:38:02.0

@Ravindra@Symbian-Life blog: We have integrated a chipset inside the backcover that basically is recognized by the device software and immediately changes the display color to the same one. For the moment, it does not work with third-party covers.

    2008-08-26 08:38:14.0

What are text entry speeds like on the keyboards for N79 / N85? I know these get tested in comparison to older devices. Any clever design / engineering tricks that have made a difference?

    2008-08-26 08:38:51.0

@Nokia Axel - are there any plans to create a smart Xpress-On cover with a camoflage design, and a matching theme?

    2008-08-26 08:39:08.0

Mhh is this something similar to the Nokia Morph prototype, which is made with nano-tech??

    2008-08-26 08:39:38.0

Any plans to use the E71's predictive text in Nseries devices?

    2008-08-26 08:40:26.0

will the n79 come with a set of covers or will they need to be purchased?

    2008-08-26 08:40:31.0

@symbianguru - there are no announcements to make at this time regarding when the Nokia Music Store will be available in the US, but when it is, these devices will support it.  the devices also work with 3rd party music services based on Windows Media DRM

    2008-08-26 08:41:02.0

How secure is the technology behind the chip in the x-press on covers?  Could a dodgy cover cause something dodgy to happen on phone (instead of just switching theme)?

    2008-08-26 08:41:04.0

@JulioVillalba: We already have several touch devices in the Nokia Nseries portfolio, such as N810 Internet Tablet. We continue developing touch interface devices.

    2008-08-26 08:41:04.0

    @ superi

A few reasons why you should get a Nokia Nseries device

    - Photos & DVD-quality video with 5 Mpix autofocus Carl Zeiss camera
    - Close integration of Share on Ovi or Flickr for direct uploads

    - Voice-guided navigation service with three-month integrated license, over 150 country maps available that can be sideloaded onto the device by consumers

    - Flash support in the web browser

    - Our Nseries handsets are not tied to one operator in one market

    - Easy one hand usage

    - Standard keymat for faster typing of text messages, e-mails or posts

    - FM radio

    - MicroSD card slot for memory cards - 8 GB available now

    - N-Gage experience with physical gaming keys and one free game and several try-and-buy games

    - And the basics: Nseries supports MMS and you can forward SMS

    2008-08-26 08:41:29.0

@superi: Yes, it comes with three covers in the sales box.

    2008-08-26 08:41:58.0

the n800 internet tabler was great btw, n810 lacks the joypad usage without having to open the keyboard, and lacks the fancy webcamera that you could shoot pics with, rotating it and using 3rd party software

    2008-08-26 08:42:17.0

    just a design feedback

    2008-08-26 08:42:24.0

Just wondering now  that Symbain is going "Open Source" is their any plans to add some basic Linux connectivity?

    2008-08-26 08:42:46.0

@sheridan The new Nseries devices supports predictive text input for the so called ITU-T keypad. The algorthm on E71 is optimised for a qwerty keyboard

    2008-08-26 08:44:26.0

@Ant@Fresh Plastic: no, when you have a Nokia Nseries cover.

    2008-08-26 08:45:15.0

    @deathbrin:;)

    2008-08-26 08:45:57.0

In that case how about adding a third slide with a qwerty keypad - if for no other reason the americans would love it

    2008-08-26 08:46:05.0

No response to my camo Xpress-On cover, does that mean there WILL be one?:)

    2008-08-26 08:46:12.0

@symbianguru they are keeping you in suspense..;)

    2008-08-26 08:46:44.0

@solitaire We have been working on Linux in the Nseries range via the Internet Tablets. Have a look at the Nokia N810, its a great tablet based in Linux operating system

    2008-08-26 08:47:12.0

@Ravindra - consumer analysis revealed that the pencil key button was not used enough to warrant the extra space.  all pencil key functionality can still be accessed on the Nseries devices without pencil key, which provides more physical keypad consolidation

    2008-08-26 08:47:26.0

@symbianguru: what an interesting idea... Let's discuss this offline;)

    2008-08-26 08:48:37.0

But still the pencil key can be/used by so many 3rd party apps and most of them become outdated because of this

    2008-08-26 08:48:52.0

@Nokia Axel - PLEASE. I'm sure you know how to get ahold of me.:)

    2008-08-26 08:49:13.0

@sheridan01 Qwerty is definately (and ofcourse) something we are looking at. But adding a third slide might be a bit too spookie Tongue out

    2008-08-26 08:49:15.0

It was just a thought - americans seem to love their qwerty's.

    2008-08-26 08:49:50.0

@Nokia Jonas - while I would *love* a QWERTY nseries, I have to agree, three slides would be a bit awkward

    2008-08-26 08:49:56.0

So does that mean you've already tried or have ideas on a 3rd slider??????

    2008-08-26 08:50:16.0

are yo considering mixing anN series phone with an E series phone?

    2008-08-26 08:50:26.0

    @Jonas

thanks ive been looking at then, but am enquiering aboutconnecting Nseries devices to a Linux desktop

    2008-08-26 08:50:52.0

Also - the E71 back plate feels great to the touch - why do Nseries phones feel cheap in comparison

    2008-08-26 08:50:57.0

a QWERTY nseries would be cool

    2008-08-26 08:51:07.0

Nseries are really missing active standby plugins

    2008-08-26 08:51:27.0

superi - good point I would like to see Calendar / Contacts / Smart dial from E66/71 on Nseries.

    2008-08-26 08:51:47.0

@Ravindra@Symbian-Life blog We are all the time looking at new stuff and formfactors but sacrificing usability for a short wow is not a option

    2008-08-26 08:51:56.0

also active notes are a something that could be considered as multimedia

    2008-08-26 08:52:01.0

On a positive note - the side nav on FP2 is great

    2008-08-26 08:52:09.0

so is the kickstand on the N96

    2008-08-26 08:52:24.0

@deathbrin,Ya I've tried it but for the general users these Mod apps don't apply much, especially due to signing issues

    2008-08-26 08:52:46.0

Yes, are there plans to implement the kickstand onto other Nseries devices?

    2008-08-26 08:52:57.0

oh by the way does the n85 support the navi wheel feature

    2008-08-26 08:52:58.0

One of the cool things with the camera is the fact that when you take a picture it automatically gets geotagged. This is really a excellent example of the value convergance brings Wink

    2008-08-26 08:53:25.0

@Nokia Jonas - very glad to see that standard fare now.

    2008-08-26 08:53:49.0

@sheridan01: I don't think it feels necessarily cheap, rather it feels warmer and more "friendly" to your hand.

    2008-08-26 08:53:57.0

This may be personal, but which dual slider is more productive,is it N85 or N96,hope I'm not putting you in trouble??

    2008-08-26 08:54:25.0

Is the accelerometer used for anything besides ASR and photo orientation? Would be nice to see flip to silent as on E66.

    2008-08-26 08:54:40.0

I disagree. The N96 backplate feels cheap - no texture. Even the N95 8gb had texture

    2008-08-26 08:54:52.0

Will users be warned about the potential privacy issues with geotagging?

    2008-08-26 08:55:07.0

Geotaging is great but drains my N95 battery:( (well i was running maps + get tag + taking pics):D

    2008-08-26 08:55:29.0

Great question, @Rafeblandford - Nokia dudes? Flip to silent, or tap-to-silent?

    2008-08-26 08:55:36.0

@Nokia Jones, does this automatic Geotagging consumes more battery power and will it cause the battery to drain faster than usual??

    2008-08-26 08:55:47.0

@deathbrin - the n85 does support navi wheel functionality

    2008-08-26 08:55:55.0

@symbianguru: We are designing devices that adapt to people and to the context that they are in. Kickstand is a good example of how we believe that the use of sharing and viewing media matters to people. So definately we are looking into innovative ways how to make a most adaptable multimedia computer for people.

    2008-08-26 08:56:52.0

@Ravindra@Symbian-Life blog Its always personal Embarassed It really depends what you want to use it for. I am personally all for massive memory and therefore I go with the N96 and its 16GB integrated memory + the flexibility with a memorycard. On the other hand N85 is a really sleek package so if you are ok with less memory it might be somthing to consider Surprised

    2008-08-26 08:57:10.0

    i like the look axel

    2008-08-26 08:57:24.0

Battery life is a big influence to me.I hope the vine feature does not drain while geo taging like it does with my N95:(

    2008-08-26 08:57:36.0

@rafeblandford - the accelerometer API's are available for Nokia and 3rd parties to develop future applications that utilize the feature in innovative new ways.  stay tuned

    2008-08-26 08:58:23.0

Battery life is a big issue with gaming too - some n-gage games really drain the battery. 2 recharges during DD

    2008-08-26 08:58:33.0

@Ravindra@Symbian-Life blog For sure geotagging is using some power but not much as the device only turns on the GPS when it needs it. The big enabler is really the A-GPS which gives you a fast fix in most conditions without keeping the power on the GPS for a long time

    2008-08-26 08:58:49.0

About the Kick stand,as this is a physical component that might be used very frequently it should be made out of some great material and should be less succeptible to scratches. So will it be?

    2008-08-26 08:59:05.0

    Thanks for the explanation

    2008-08-26 08:59:38.0

Thank you everybody for joing the session. We appreciate your interests and all the nice ideas that you gave us for future development Smile

    2008-08-26 09:00:23.0

regarding battery life. would it be possible to get a higher capacity battery as an option for the N Series?
