We've just released Omnidrive for Windows Version 0.8. There's no new features in this one, but there are lots of bug fixes and improvements.

This release is also our first Windows client to officially support Vista. So, Vista users... it's the one you've been waiting for.

Hey, I was using the Vista client beta that was posted a couple weeks ago.  I just tried to install the latest 0.8 client on two different machine with the same result: the installer manages to create the OmniDrive folder in Program Files, but then quits unexpectedly without completing...  I have tried uninstalling the older client and clearing the cache folder in the AppData directory with no success.

Thanks for letting us know Kevin. We're looking at it now.

    2007-07-25 15:02:39.0

I just downloaded the exe (linke from Mr Phil) and have had the same results as sdkevin. The "C:\Program Files\OmniDrive" folder is created -- no content. No folder was created in C:\Users\[UserName]\AppData\Roaming[Local | LocalLow].

I am running Vista Ultimate as an Administrator with UAC turned off. Prior to installing the new OmniDrive I had successfully installed the Vista-targeted Beta (without clearing the Program Files cache).

    2007-07-25 16:28:21.0

Forgot to mention ... I fully uninstalled the Beta before trying to install the new version.

    2007-07-25 16:35:09.0

Before I try the new one ...

I successfully re-installed the Beta but had to make C:\Users\[UserName]\Local\Omnidrive folder manually.

    2007-07-25 16:39:13.0

I fully uninstalled the Beta. I had to take ownership of c:\Program Files\OmniDrive in order to manually delete DLLs and an update executable. I also deleted the AppData\Local\Omnidrive folder. Then reboot.

When I installed the via the new exe it ran normally. Before clicking "Finish" the systray application errored out and I was prompted to allow Internet Access to the application (I am running Windows Live OneCare at the moment). After approving, the systray app remained in an error state.

Upon clicking "Finish" I received a Explorer pop-up error windows with "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action."

I checket the new Desktop Shortcut for the target ([hostname]\Omnidrive] and tried to open the Omnidrive drive via both the shortcut and directly via Windows Explorer without success.

I checked AppData and identified that the Omnidrive folder had not been created. I selected Properties on the drive in Explorer and provided my credentials. Subsequently, the AppData folder was created and began to populate with cache information. However, I am still unable to open the Omnidrive system folder.

However, although I can see the "Omnidrive" folder in the RH pane when selecting "My Computer" it is not listed on the LH side. Also, I continue to be unable to open the system folder via either Explorer or the shortcut.

I will get back to you on the condition after a reboot.

    Hi Caomai,

Please let me know how you go after the reboot.  If you still have problems perhaps I can help.

    2007-07-25 17:40:06.0

and also, can you let me know if you are speaking about installing the new installer provided by Mr Phil or the original installer

    2007-07-25 17:41:14.0

After a reboot & login I watched the "TrustedInstaller.exe" process run at 50% CPU (of my dual core AMD) for about 30 seconds.

I launched Omnidrive via the shortcut, was prompted for my credentials (which were "remembered") and successfully opened an Explorer window.

I was also able to launch a new Explorer window in which Omnidrive was visible in the LH pane and displayed properly in the RH pane when selected.

I was able to create a new folder in the Explorer pane and successfully Copy+Paste a new file into the new folder.

I went to the web site (FireFox 2.0.0.5) and tried to login using my credentials and received the following error page content ...

    ##########

    Exceptions !!

org.springframework.jdbc.CannotGetJdbcConnectionException: Could not get JDBC Connection; nested exception is java.sql.SQLException: Data source rejected establishment of connection, message from server: "Too many connections"

    ##########

I checked my TCP/IP connections and only identified one ... "[hostname]:49278 => omnidrive.com:http". I did not have any traffic of note.

I launched (Internet Explorer ver 7) and was able to login OK. The pasted file was visible. I am able to download OK as well.

Subsequently, I exited IE and was able to login via FireFox.

The application  is working OK now.

I believe one of our servers went down which explains why you had problems on the website - it is being fixed at the moment.

Glad to hear the application is working ok for you now!

The updated install seems to have fixed the problem... OD is installed and running now!

    Two questions:

    1.  I still have to deal with the updater being blocked when I reboot the computer and having to manually run the bolcked program... can this be fixed?

    2.  I noticed that the directory structure under the AppData/Local/Omnidrive/[username] folder has changed.  Does this reflect any changes vis a vis the ability to synchronize folders transparently with the "Send selected items to OmniDrive" context menu?  Or does the original folder remain disconnected from the copy in the new _Cache folder?

    Hey Kevin

I'm glad it is installing OK for you.

    1. The next version of Omnidrive will be signed with an authenticode certificate and we will be aiming to have it run OK without Vista blocking it. In the meantime you can manually tell windows vista to stop blocking it.

    2.  Send To Omnidrive behavior has not changed, we have just moved the physical location of the cache to be inline with Windows Vista guidelines.  So, to confirm, send to Omnidrive is disconnected from the original folder.

I have a 64bit version of Vista installed, so am I right in thinking that if your executable isn't signed it won't work. It doesn't work - the installation went the same way as caomai's above. I tried to launch the program manually from the program files folder, and I get a tray icon called Omnidrive Updater that just sits there and does nothing.

I can't connect via WebDAV either so I'm not having much luck at the moment:(

    2007-08-10 14:03:34.0

publicenergy - We need to make a special version of Omnidrive for 64 Bit Vista and plan to do so.

    2007-08-10 14:49:56.0

ok - thanks for the quick reply:)

    2007-08-10 14:56:17.0

publicenergy - a bit more info for you in case you are interested... the reason why Omnidrive doesnt run on 64bit Vista is not because of the signing issue.  It is because Omnidrive runs in the Windows Explorer process space and 64 bit applications cannot load 32 bit dlls.  We are working towards getting a 64 bit version asap.:)

Thanks again for the info - much appreciated.

Hello - I'm using a 64bit Vista on my computer. Just wondering if you have a approximately time when your 64bit onmidrive client is finished?

    2007-09-12 23:26:37.0

I'd just like to echo tigergutten's question

    2007-09-23 09:53:32.0

Hello, I have just installed the v.0.8 on my XP and I have the following problems:

    • Properties-Public URL for all files is always N/A (even though I can see the Public URL in the web client)
    • when I try to publish files, I get the error message "publish item failed"
    • when I try to share, I cannot copy the the resulting Access URL to clipboard (it is only "clickable"). I would like to know what the URL is so that I can email and bookmark it if needed

All those issues greatly diminish the usefulness of the Windows client in sharing files. Does anyone have any ideas?

    2007-09-26 22:27:13.0

Hi, different question here... I was wondering what the best practices are to edit files on omnidrive? Are you guys editing / saving files directly from and to omnidrive?

I'm a bit puzzled by the behaviour of omnidrive if it comes to directly opening and saving files. Sometimes I cant see my files on omnidrive but they are in _Cache and sometimes files end-up not in the directory I expected.

So... any tips/tricks/best practices welcome. (btw, I'm using the windows client, not WEBDAV)

    Thx

    2007-09-28 06:32:16.0

Good morning.  I installed the windows client on two separate computers, at two locations.  On each computer I copied a file to the Omnidrive folder.  When viewing the folder list the file copied on the 'other' computer appears grayed out and the file properties show a file size of zero.  How do I 'release' the file so I can have access to it on the other side?

I scanned the FAQs and didn't find anything regarding what I'm seeing.
