Is omnidrive compatible with Linux? If no one knows, I'll find out.

OK, should work with linux, via Firefox.

    No Linux desktop tool.

I guess I sould post something here... I've been critical of other products in the feedback groups... but this one I'm at a loss of what to say ... so i'll leep it short and sweet:

It does what it says it does.  No fuss. No bother. simply a well thought out and effective tool.

    Well done guys.

Okay, just a note : You need Java, for those who are running Linux

Hey NuclearStr1der, you can use the web interface on Linux, either Firefox or a khtml based browser. The advanced uploader requires a Java runtime on the client

Bricoleur: thanks a lot for the feedback, we still have a lot more to build/release

    2007-04-15 05:23:03.0

It's fairly straightforward and easy to figure out

I have a post above singing high praise for the product ..... but I had a set back that I think is quite serious  ... in that a 'published' file returned a URL to someone else's work.... I describe it in some detail @ Error on Publish - url goes to different file

Support tells me they have resolved the issue, so i will take that at face value and proceed cautiously....I like the concept and ease of use, and so will be continuing to test it.... but I'll need some time and extended use before I commit anything of any real import there... just too worrisome a bug.

hey Bricoleur, I can assure you that it was a minor issue, with only public folders and documents. our security model is very clear in that you can't just guess URL's to get to private content or content that only other people are supposed to see (eg. shared). In over 18 months of running the app, this is the only time it has happen, it was a collision with how the hash was generated, and we have updated that procedure.

Thanks for the update..... ah Hash collision, not the first time I've seen this at all ... perhaps they follow me around....

please note that a similarly complete ,direct response from support would have got a different comment from me here... but  the terseness left me concerned, so once again thanks for your note.

I'm looking forward to using the program....for  as, I noted Apr 5 in this thread, it does appear to be a well thought out and effective tool...I'll step up my use to try it under every condition I can imagine...

hey im not sure who got back to you from support, I know it wasn't me, but we do have the challenge of keeping everybody here in synch with everything going on all the time

It's fairly straightforward and easy to figure out

It is but I find the browser a bit techy looking for a non geek like moi. I find it a bit intimidating. I love the curvy logo and wonder if that design element could be carried forward into the Omnidrive browser...

I have been able to upload files easily and have also been creating basic text files online. All worked well...

Am I able to share with people? I work on magazines and it is always a huge problem making changes to text and images - some people can't view files and sometimes the inbuilt security features on word docs and then the mocked up mag mean we can't make changes easiy. I would LOVE something which lets us all work on a file online. How liberating would that be? Is that something Omnidrive offers?

Hey kasta - you can share files with other people by right clicking the file in Omnidrive, then Action > Share. Then you enter the email address of the person you want to share it with and voila.

If you select Action > Open on a Word document for example, the file will be opened in Zoho which is a web based word editor. Zoho will allow you to collaboratively edit the document with someone else. More info here: http://writer.zoho.com/public/help/zohowriterfaq/fullpage#PSC

That sounds fantastic. It could revolutionise how I work. And Imean that seriously. I spend so time going back and forward toclients, trying to make changes in new docs, keeping track of thenew docs, not having compatible files because i am on a mac andthey are on PCs...
