Hi !![]()
Good afternoon everybody! We'll be starting the Q&A at 15.10 CET as scheduled. Hopefully you enjoy what we have up for you.
sweet.
Afternoon everyone!
yo, Tommi!
It's morning here
Hi here too!
Howdy ricky
Still morning here in Eastern Canada -- just 10:00 a.m.![]()
Does the Q&A happen in this chat window?
2pm here
@Tommi - yes, normally.
15:07 in the netherlands
Good afternoon, everybody.
Greatings from Switzerland; 15:07 in Zürich
If so, I think we might need to set up two chat windows here (for future virtual events): one for questions/audience, another for answers/Nokia managers. Othewise, this might get too messy...
i agree
Greetings from shiny Greece![]()
Hello everyone, and welcome to the Ovi virtual event. We have Kalle, Keith and Aapo here answering your questions on the new Ovi updates.
I hope you enjoy what we have to show you today!
Carlo = Longino? If so, hi!
Hi, Mae Kowalke from TMCnet.com in U.S.
One thing worth noting - we are evolving Ovi constantly. You'll already see the new and improved Ovi look and feel in the videos, with great new icons. They're rolling out very soon.
hello all, Andreea from Romania (www.acasa.ro)
Thanks, Aapo!![]()
Wondering if one of you can clarify that today's announcement is about adding Sync and Files to Ovi--or were those available previously?
Hi from Cologne, to be honest I expected more to come
good question...
Aapo - Sync on Ovi is awesome, except for that it shows Groups online, and lets me create them, but doesn't sync them to my device. Is this a known bug, or something that's coming soon?
@mkowalke - Those were both available previously.
What about the integration of nokia maps and LBS
@ mkowalke - the new sync functionality, Files on Ovi and Nokia Ovi Suite are all available - and we wanted to share more information today
so the new features are changes to the interface?
Hi, I am Dogo from Argentina
Hey guys: You said the current line-up (Ovi Suite, Ovi.com and Files on Ovi) were the foundation of big things to come, so what's next?
hi - when does Nokia Musicstore and Nokia Maps get integrated into Ovi.com?
Hi all
Another question: please clarify which Ovi services are free and which must be subscribed to by paying
is nokia PM still there?
Cheers from Germany! I have a question regarding the e-series: When will they be added to the Ovi Suite?
@ symbianguru. Thanks, glad you enjoy it. We are constantly making it better. The groups question is something I'll need to look to, as in why they are not coming back to you.
Are we going to know anything new about Nokia Ovi today?![]()
@tommi & @aapo: Hi there! I <3 ovi & beta labs ^_^
any chance of harmonizing the main navigation on different Ovi-sites? Shouldn't the sync/files/maps/games/share -nav be visible everywhere?
How does Ovi Suite relate to PC Suite? Will we eventually be able to get all the PC Suite functions online via Ovi portal? (one issue that stops a lot of my friends using pc suite to sync etc is it is sometimes problematic to set up on Vista - if it was just all done via web app wld solve the problem).
Thanks. Also, what about automatic or scheduled sync with Sync on Ovi. Is this coming?
How are Ovi.com services going to be marketed / how are users going to be made aware of them? (e.g. in box leaflet / links on the phone / user manuals).
For a) SIM free phones, b) Operator variants.
Related - is Ovi Suite going to replace PC Suite for certain handsets? i.e. on the inbox CD?
Why does Nokia have the Ovi Suite as well as the NSeries and other Pc Suites too? wouldn't one for all make more sense?
@ symbianguru - yes, we have plans for that in the near future and are working on it. Stay tuned.
Hi, Volker from c't magazine, Germany. I'd like to back mkowalke here: What exactly is new today, and please add info on pay vs. free services. Plus: Is support for other OS planned, or will this stay a MS only show?
@rafeblandford we write about them and people read our articles-one aspect
@mkowalke Files is currently the only paid subscription service on Ovi.
do you intend to make Ovi something like mobile Facebook?
Hi, I'm from Italy and I'm covering the event for an italian symbian weblog
Hi, quite new to Ovi.com -services, but how are e.g. my synced information stored, is it safe, because ovi.com seems to be using only http-traffic?
- what's newsworthy about all this??
"Files is currently the only paid subscription service on Ovi."
Keith, please specify "currently" -- what can be expected once Ovi's out of b
eta?
@Nokia Keith - I use Files on Ovi nearly every day, but am quite frustrated that on my mobile, I must constantly re-sign in. Are there plans to fix this anytime soon?
@Nemoi. we are adding new devices constantly and the support for different E-series devices should be available in near future in upcoming releases of Ovi Suite
I wanted to ask you if OVI will be in some mobile devices not-Nokia, to extend the capabilities and the coverage. It might be a good idea!
@ Aapo Hello, Bogdan Bele from connect magazine Romania here. I'm just curious whether you plan to make these services available for other manufacturers' phones
@Jason Gideon - Maps on Ovi is currently available for the LG KT610
supermurmeli - we are indeed harmonizing the main navigation along with the new look and feel and new icons. In fact, in the recent weeks we have been busy betwen Kalle, Keith and myself making sure we all have the new navigation
thanks guru![]()
Question: I am NOT using Ovi sync because here in Argentina there are problems to receive SMS from abroad. How can I receive the settings for Ovi sync other than SMS ?
@Jason - np. Not to spam, but here's a helpful link: http://www.symbian-guru.com/welcome/2008/09/maps-on-ovi-now-available-for-lg-kt610.html
thx symbianguru
Hi Aapo - can I get that tune as a ringtone? ![]()
Thanks guru, I appreciate it. I haven't a LG but I was just curious and many users on my blog asked it to me...
@vbr As we move forward new services will be added to Ovi with different business models. Files is the first service that is offered with a paid subscription model.
Does Ovie support the N95?
Yes, OVI supports N95![]()
@ruk, yes a version of Nokia Ovi Suite for Mac will be released at some time in the future, stay tuned
Another question: do you see Ovi competing directly with online app suites from Microsoft, Google, Apple---now or in the future?
Hi - another sign-up issue: I signed up for Ovi, then to sign up for share i had to create another user name. When is all this going to be consolidated so that one user account does everything incl music etc etc?
Ovi convinced me it's a complete service
@keith: Are there plans to make Share a paid service?
Hey there! Dennis from the Netherlands. Just read the FAQ that Ovi Suite software is only compatible with N96, N72 and 6210. Uhm...that's confusing. Where's the rest of the phones?
@vbr: it seems that only files on ovi will be a paid service
jep, Jason, for now![]()
A lot of people are moaning about the download! application. Are there plans to develop an appstore modell for ovi?
I've used Ovi Suite with N95-3, N82, E71, E90, and N81 8GB with no problems.
great question, @Nemoi
@ Griff - we are working on getting Nokia Account to work across all the services. It currently works with Files and Sync. But we are working hard with all the groups. It's toughest in the case where the service has already lots of existing users - but we are committed to do the hard work so that consumers have it easier.
@ bogdanbele - currently Ovi.com and Nokia Ovi Suite are only available for Nokia devices
@big_g_funk, the Nokia Ovi Suite can be understood as the improved version of the Nokia PC Suite and Nseries PC Suite, in the future Nokia Ovi Suite will be the single piece of PC Connectivity software from Nokia
@symbianguru Great to hear you are using Files nearly every day. We have a number of new features to help with usability on Mobile devices that we will continue to roll out. Stay tuned ...
Thanks for your answer.
Did we get an answer as to when the more in-depth options of PC Suite will be integrated into Ovi Suite?
such as the SMS management and such?
Keith - Files on Ovi as a WebDAV drive so it can be used from within the S60 (3.2) file manager please.
@Rafe - OOOh, good call.
@ mkowalke there is lot of activity in the market for sure. I think we are in a good spot to build further - we have the industry's largest third-party ecosystem for mobile applications: we have the world's largest mobile developer community creating applications for the Nokia device platforms, leading with S60, and a channel directly to the devices in Download!
How do you see Ovi Suite vs iTunes (i have both iphone and n78!!)? iTunes seems MUCH better integrated re: music store, apps store (and its all free), wheres Ovi Suite looks stronger re: remote access (Files). Presumably iTunes is your immediate competition?
@How about Linux users? Will the Ovi Suite have a version for them anytime soon?
I think that for the moment iTunes is on other levels
This one for Aapo, taking up mkwalke again: Where does Ovi stand in regard to other services by MSFT, YHOO, APPL et al -- what is your USP?
Sorry if asked already~ Will we see a more developed App Store as part of Ovi similar to iTunes?
@Aapo - wrt to developers - When are we going to see some APIs for Ovi services to allow third party ties? Be great to see developer.ovi.com - e.g. document and talk about use of ATOM Publishing Protocol on Share on Ovi. Similalry for Files - one click 'add this document to my files on Ovi' type thing. Same for Sync too I guess.
Aapo, Kalle, Keith: you still haven't really answered what's NEW about all this....???
I second Rafe on the WebDAV access. Another great improvement would be to _upload_ files to your Anytime files that are then synced to your computer. That would be a great help for me
@ vbr - we are building something a very wide range of people can enjoy, all around the world. For example, Sync supports a huge amount of different devices, not just the new ones. Also, it's free to use for our part - naturally network fees apply. I think our strength is to take great things and make them available to all to enjoy.
@Symbianguru, Yes, we are working to introduce new features into Ovi Suite, and some of these are existing already now in Nokia PC Suite, stay tuned!
@rafeblandford We are looking at a number of different ways to more tightly couple the mobile experience to the Files environment. We will continue to roll out new functionality and do this across the broadest set of devices.
@ Aapo: Hi there, the PIM in Ovi is good. I would love to see some integration with the Google Calendar or other webbased services though. Any chance?
Is there a page on the Ovi site that lists which file formats the Ovi File service is compatible with?
@vbr There are no plans to make Share a paid service
I recall reports of a disgruntled network-provider (T-mobile) in Germany a couple of months ago because Ovi was getting in the way of their T-Zones service. Did you run into any similar lately?
Question: I am NOT using Ovi sync because here in Argentina there are problems to receive SMS from abroad. How can I receive the settings for Ovi sync other than SMS ?
@ VH_mobilen.no what we are showing today as been out in evolving forms for a while, most of it coming to the market very recently. This is not a product launch as such. Instead we wanted to take the opportunity and introduce where we are now and hear your thoughts about where we are heading
Hi, my name is DOW, Founder MSERVICES GmbH, Düsseldorf, Germany. Question regarding the target group for Mobile Services 40+ Years. Can NOKIA imagine to localize the brandname OVI for the german market and the needs of the Mobile Services target group 40+? The today unkown brand I would like to offer to NOKIA is -----> MSERVICES.
I am struggling to understand what this is other than a fee based file storage system. When does OVI incorporate music and maps ie the ability to manage my multimedia content under one web site? many thanks, Neil
@bogdanbele, currently we don't have any offering for Linux users, let's see after we have the PC and Mac versions available
@Nellie - you can use Files on Ovi for free all day long, as long as your home computer is on and connected to the net. The paid part is for Anytime Files, which is basically storage space on Nokia's servers.
@mkowalke Files allows remote access to all standard file formats on the PC
Hi
but Ovi is a suscription service. How much will be the monthly
fee?
Hi guys, do you consider Ovi to be the new Facebook or cellphones' Facebook? Do you intend to move towards Facebook's philosophy?
thanx a lot
Who are Nokia’s competitors for Ovi?
included in your carrier's fee, cjane
What about mobile bookmarks? Currently, specifically for users with multiple handsets, bookmark syncing is a complete mess, thanks largely to the hard-coded folders in the bookmarks area. Are there plans to make it easier to keep a single set of mobile bookmarks synced across multiple devices?
tx for the part answer, but as for the second part of my question, when does the Nokia music store become part of OVI so that I have a complete multimedia mgt web site?
@ Dogo - we are working on other ways to provide the settings but for now it's only SMS
Thank you
@symbianguru Files has a free trial period for the service. All Files accounts come with Anytime Files storage.
so ovi is sort of web front-end of pc suite?
@ Sir Pretender - there are many kinds of services out there, and we love them. With Ovi we try to take our take on services: Keeping your information safe, making it accessible, fueling your device, knowing what's around you. That's our own angle.
@Nokia Keith - REALLY? So, there's no way to use Files on Ovi without Anytime Files? That's honestly not great news. I could swear I've been using it for a while now without any Anytime Files storage.
@Jon Tseng, in Ovi Suite we are supporting wide variety of different features, such as photos, backup.
The feeling I get using PC/Ovi Suite is its designed piecemeal from a TECH DRIVEN point of view. Features like transfer files, backup files, edit contacts are built from a bottom up these-are-the-technology-functions basis. The feeling I get using iTunes is that its designed from a USER EXPERIENCE point of view. The average user doesn't think in terms of files, they think in terms of actions. e.g. all I have to do is hit the sync button and all the app instal, backup etc is taken care of. Do you think this is a fair criticism?
@karabulev, that's one way to see it, Ovi Suite has close integration to Ovi Services
@ Nellie - we are working with all our services team on getting them work with Nokia Account. On the cases where there are lots of existing members in their service (like Music) it's just much much harder. But we are working on it.
@cjane. Files on Ovi is a subscription service. Ovi PIM sync, backup and Ovi suite are all free services.
Thank you very much for your answer, I have one more question: is there a set date regarding Ovi full version's launch? Is it going to be worldwide or is it going to be partially?
Thank you again
Wondering if one of you can fill in a few specifics for me: who are Nokia's direct competitors for Ovi, and
how many Ovi users are there?
Would still like to know about go to market.. there's a lot on offer, but many users don't know about it. So any plans for in box promotion or similar?
Aapo: With Ovi being for everyone and aimed at the widest possible audience -- where does that fit with technical barriers, eg files only Windows, Music Store only MS DRM?
And backing up Mae again: Some numbers on Ovi users, Music Store or NGage would be great.
@ mkowalke - there are many competing services out there, so it's hard to point down one or two. As for specific figures, that's not something I can go into I'm afraid
Aapo/Kalle - how long do you think it will be before Ovi.com incorporates Nokia Musicstore and Nokia Maps?
@symbianguru You can choose not to use Anytime Files and use Files as just a remote access solution with no online storage, however, each account has some amount of storage available to it.
hi, i guess im late
how s every1
@nokia keith some amount of storage = some subscription fee. So, once my trial is over, I'll no longer have access to Files on Ovi (since you guys don't have my CC info).
how much storage does files get?
@ Jon Tseng , thank you for your feedback, we are working hard to make the Ovi Suite user experience more user friendly. stay tuned for the upcoming releases
have a planning for linux version of OVI?
Ovi service is still not available in many parts of the world. What is nokia going to do about that?
What are your plan's to integrate Music store and N-gage into OVI b/c at the moment OVI does nothing more than act as a Advert for them ?
+1
i'm an ubuntu user
@sara106 Files currently has two storage options: 10GB or 30GB for synchronized Anytime Files access
One more question gentlemen: is Ovi service available in Greece? If not, do you plan to make it available soon?
Backing up sir Pretender: When will the full launch be, and will it be worldwide?
no i meant how much storage goes along with files without subscribing to anytime files
Aapo, are you able to answer in the last 10 minutes my question regarding MSERVICES, target group 40+, German market
how safe is OVI?
What about corporate users, can their handsets be blocked from using ovi.com PIM sync?
Indeed, how safe is Ovi?
Unfortunately, countries that should be technologically evoluted, like Italy, have awful Internet flat promos. So I use OVI 3/4 times at home with my WiFi network......
Like Italy many countries have the same problem
@ rafeblandford - we are taking quite a deliberate approach in gradually building and evolving Ovi before turning up the volume. User experience, seamlessness and performance is something we want to polish relentlessly.
mmmh, N95 8GB isn't OVI supported... why?
What kind of protection layers do you use for the stored files?
@Deniz , stay tuned, new devices will be updated to the web page soon!
Are there any plans to integrate the Nokia Account with Ovi?
or
will services like Nokia Lifevine , sports tracker etc. be integrated with Ovi?
@sara106 Anytime Files is the storage that is associated with Files accounts and currently has two levels 10GB and 30GB.
ok
@Aapo Good to hear, makes sense, thanks.
btw, you should set up a separate forum for ovi problems and suggestions, as there is none yet in the nokia forums
second that
I agree too
Did my question about competitors (who competes with Nokia's Ovi) and users (how many Ovi users are there now) get through?
@NokiaKeith - you mentioned earlier to symbianguru:
You can choose not to use Anytime Files and use Files as just a remote access solution with no online storage, however, each account has some amount of storage available to it. (just wondering what that amount it is?)
will MS Outlook Sync. work with Ovi?
@gomcoite - Nokia Account is already integrated with Ovi, see account.nokia.com for example, Ovi bar up there
Why there isn't a free version of Files On Ovi (1Gb for example) ?
@ Keith: What will the fees be for the 10 and 30 GB packages? If I correctly understand, there is no free account.
@TechPin Files on Ovi uses a secure data center and we use industry standard encryption technology for moving files in and out of the Files on Ovi service.
@ gomcoite - if you currently use another synchronization method or application to manage your data it is recommended that you do not sync your device with Ovi.com. Syncing with both may result in data being displayed incorrectly. We are working on fixes for this.
such a ssl?
Thanks, Keith!
or ssh?
I recall reports of a disgruntled network-provider (T-mobile) in Germany a couple of months ago because Ovi was getting in the way of their T-Zones service. Did you run into any similar lately?
Hello, why there is a new ovi bar on account.nokia.com but on the ovi.com not?![]()
Any plans for shared calendars/files between designated users, as is available with BlackBerry Unite?
thats why my contacts had phone numbers missing on the site but they display on phone
sync with ovi uses syncml, right? so i suppose it should be safe to use with zyb.com
Will Nokia's new eMail application become part of Ovi?
any plans to incorporate messaging? or is this available already?
instant messaging i mean
good point sara
@ Sirpretender - we are constantly adding new services, elements and features on Ovi and rolling it out in different countries. It's an ongoing journey and every time you look back a few months you see lots has happened
@ krystof.korb - that's the new visual style there - soon across the other sites too
@FranckLassagne We are offering a 60 day trial to the 10GB and 30GB service tiers and we feel that gives users the opportunity to experience the best experience of the service before purchasing a subscription.
Aapo, can you please forward my question and offer regarding MSERVICES for the german market 40+ to your marketing department.Tnx.
@Keith: But what will the prices be after the trial period?
mmh, files on ovi is very expensive for a non-professional use. the price is similar to gps license
@ Nokia Staff = will u make ovi into a online tool that would support various fones and save setting like contacts, messages, gallery etc. and help in easy switching of mobiles. something like backup but you can move data between various fone models...?
i feel it would prove better than what we have now...![]()
little price=big use
Alright everyone, that was one busy hour of chatting about Ovi. I'm really excited to see so many people are interested about Ovi, and happy to hear the suggestions. You guys inspire us.
Thank you and until next time!
@bogdanbele The 10GB package is 49.99 Euros per year and the 30GB 99.99 Euros per year. We also offer monthly pricing for each of the service tiers.
farewell![]()
thank you![]()

Bye, thanks !
Another good blog => http://www.giiks.com![]()
Greetings all
to bad i missed the presentation
why share on OVI not available in Saudi Arabia ?
I won't be able to participate on the chat tomorrow again, but I'll leave my feedback: Can't you guys make a WRT widget for files on ovi? Since it's browser based. You could also make a settings part that stores the login info, so you don't have to login everytime (as symbianguru said)
and we need a ovi bar up in n-gage. so we could have the same sign in method from everywhere. take for example flickr when they got bought by yahoo, people had to link their accounts to a main yahoo account, but didn't lose their screennames. the same thing needs to happen with n-gage and share on ovi, asap!
Hello and good morning everyone, welcome to the Q&A session!
The purpose of today's event is to discuss the recent additions to Ovi - Sync, Files and Nokia Ovi Suite.
We are interested to hear your thoughts on them and are happy to answer questions about them.
hello
how will nokia pc suite fit into the whole scheme of things for ovi
?
Hello, Bogdan Bele from connect magazine Romania here. Are there file types that won't work with files on Ovi (for security purposes, I mean)?
Hi Aapo, can you share with us more on the security and privacy aspects of these new additions?
@Text 100 MY, Hi and thanks for your question! the Ovi Suite can be understood as improved version of Nokia PC Suite and Nseries PC Suite.
Eventually Ovi Suite will replace the Nokia PC Suite.
@Aapo: And another question. Will there be a messenger-like feature? Maybe some more social-network-style features?
@damiankoh - we take privacy and security very seriously. We have industry standard security in Ovi to ensure that your data stays just yours. This is something we are passionate about at Nokia, as consumers put lot of trust in us.
@bogdanbele You can use Files on Ovi to access any file that is visible in the remote PC file system. We do block the sending audio and video files through Files on Ovi to avoid any copyright issues with the content.
@Aapo - You mentioned Ovi Suite will eventually replace the Nokia PC Suite, are you able to say when will the transition be completed? What about the S40 devices?
what are the main advantages of ovi over facebook?
@Keith: So it's basically document-focused, more than multimedia focused
@Aapo - Is Nokia Email soon to be included in the Ovi suite? is it being developed as a cloud service like Apple's MobileMe?
@ our angle at Nokia is to provide something Nokia users will find easy to use with their devices, that makes their personal data safe and their mobile more valuable
@ Moutushi Kabir that was
@Keith Can Files on Ovi be used on non Nokia devices? and if yes when. if not why?
Thanks Aapo. However, facebook and other networking sites are also accessible from Nokia devices.
@ bogdanbele you can try Nokia Chat today in Betalabs. Betalabs is a place where we experiment with new things to see what people would love
@ Moutushi Kabir yes - and we like it that way![]()
@ Damiankoh, we are adding new device support for the upcoming releases, S40 support will be available during next year, you can install PC Suite and Ovi Suite into same PC
Hi Alex here from Australia and iTWire.com - it seems to me that Ovi could be Nokia's version of Apple's MobileMe - is email going to be integrated into Ovi?
Good morning all!
@yoisef - too early to conclude yet on Nokia Email, we just got started with it and are looking hard how people are using it and how we could improve it.
Will there be conflicts between the Nokia PC Suite and subsequently Ovi Suite, with the synchronization software with, for example, Samsung's S60 devices?
But surely if you have an online synchronisation service between your phone and PC, it should sync -everything- you want it to sync?
@bogdanbele Files is currently focused on providing file download and previewing remote PC files. Personal media streaming and sharing is provided in the Share on Ovi service.
This might have been asked already, but when will we see Ovi Suite for Mac's?
@Text 100 MY We are adding more device support over the coming months for Files that will include some non-Nokia devices.
@ Darla, Yes a versio of Nokia Ovi Suite for Mac wil be released at some time in future, stay tuned!
@Keith Only Files will have support for non-Nokia devices? Why not the rest of the services, too?
@alexonline we are currently syncing Calendar, Contacts, Tasks and Notes. We chose this for a couple of reasons. First, those are the data that we found out people will regret most losing. Secondly, they are convenient enough to keep up to date over the air. Naturally we are looking continuously how to expand it.
@Aapo... so will Ovi universally replace MyNokia in the sense of being able to sync devices?
@Darla we have a team on it, but since Mac users are VERY demanding, we want to make sure it's up to their standards they've come to expect, and something that looks like it's designed for them.
haha VERY demanding.![]()
@damiankoh, we are putting a lot of effort to test the co-existance of PC Suite and Ovi Suite
If I sync pictures onto Ovi Suite, will it be put to ShareOnOvi?
@Darla too early to tell how it'll exactly play out, but currently we are working on bringing MyNokia under Nokia Account to smoothen the ride
@Nokia - the lowest price point for a Files subscription includes 10GB of data, which seems enormous considering multimedia files can't be uploaded. Are you considering smaller allocations and lower price points?
@bogdanbele Files is accessible through a browser so can support many devices without the need for a native client. This allows it to work across a nnumber of devices. Some of the other services need native clients in order to provide the functionality and this makes them Nokia device specific
@Keith But will there be a native client for Files?
@ Text 100 MY, Yes, you can select the pictures in Ovi Suite and drag-and-drop them to Ovi Share "box" in Ovi Suite, go ahead and try!
Hi Aapo, well it's good to see you are synching all those other things - I already have my email in Gmail and access it through the Gmail Java app and through Nokia's own mail app, so it's already online. I guess email would only add to your storage requirements exponentially, which already have to cope with photos, videos etc.![]()
Will Ovi also become an App Store type of service, letting me see, trial, buy and download Symbian apps for different Nokia devices?
@yolsef Multimedia files (video, music and images) can all be be synchronized and uploaded into Anytime Files and then accessed and downloaded through the browser.
At which ways is Nokia trying to make money from Ovi
When will Ovi Suite eventually replace the current PC Suite? Are we looking at any specific timeframe?
@ alexonline - we are building on our asset on Download that has a very broad distribution and consumer reach, and we have and enormous developer base in S60. It'll be certainly interesting to see that space evolve, there is so much excitement around it.
@Text 100 MY We have a number of features that will improve the mobile experience that we will release over the coming months. Keep checking back for updates.
Hi Appo, when you say "download", I take it you mean the Download app on the phones as it is now? How many programs are available to download via "Download!" today? (I'm just loading it on my phone to see) - and, it would be handy to have it accessible through Ovi as well. I know the Nokia site itself has all kinds of downloads but a "one stop Ovi shop" seems to me the best place to also have it...
@ Ton we are looking at different business models available - Files, Maps are subscription based. Some services, such as Music and Games are transactional. On top of that, Ovi provides consumer value in enriching the device experience like in Sync of your personal data for free, which is a great pull
@ Damiankoh, in the future Nokia Ovi Suite will the single piece of PC connectivity software from Nokia, and yes Nokia Ovi Suite will replace the current PC Suite in near future, we are working on this, stay tuned for new releases of Ovi Suite coming soon
I'm currently using the PC Suite to sync with my office Exchange server. Does that mean synced Exchange content on the phone can also sync back up online to Ovi?
@alexonline yep, the Download! app on phones. Went digging as we speak, but an universal number of total apps was not at hand, as the situation changes every day, and differs by region. Need to find a good number for the future, I think!
@Aapo. This is Smita from India. What is Ovi's strategy for India - when launched. Any customised offerings for India?
One more question, how does today's announcement of the native ActiveSync for S60 3rd edition devices play into the whole Ovi scheme of things?
Hei, you guys havent marketed Ovi so far at all -- should we expect this to change now?
Will Nokia Email be integrated to Ovi? How will that work?
Hi Appo, yes, especially given Apple touts 3000 apps after 60 days and 100 million downloads, I'd love to get some similar types of figures for Nokia. If Ovi is going to replace PC Suite, the definitely Ovi is the place for Apps as well, and the iTunes style of music/video/podcast/vodcast/e-book etc.. I realise you can't just jam everything in there from day 1, and as your intro video says the launch is just the beginning. Definitely a good beginning, through - I am going to try it out and have it sync up with my phones.
One question: I have multiple Nokia phones - can I sync them all to the one Ovi account, and then have all those phones synced via Ovi, or do they all need different Ovi accounts?
@ Smita. India is one of the most interesting markets in the mobile world. Many of the services in Ovi are available in India already, and what comes to the broader Ovi offering, we are looking in what exactly would serve India in the best way. Usually this involves for our teams to actually meet with real people in the different countries to get a deep, intuitive understanding of what people appreciate, and building our offering on that
@Daminakoh, pc suite doesn't sync your content to Ovi, but you can sign-in to ovi.com to sync your content to Ovi.
when will services like Nokia Music Store come to lets say Malaysia. Cos in the meantime Ovi seems incomplete without it.
@ Text 100 MY, scroll up in this discussion thread, you will find the answer from there
Tarmo - we spoke a bit about our step-wise approach yesterday. As we add more services, and the services mature, this will be reflected in the marketing. We feel it's quite important to start quietly first, then improve, polish and eventually turn up the volume of marketing. This is very different from the big-bang approach required for physical goods.
@Kalle - Correct me if I'm wrong. The flow of content I see now is, Exchange to Device (via PC Suite), then from Device to Ovi online over the air?
@damiankoh The Activesync announcement shows how Nokia is expanding the versitiliy s60 smartphone functionality providing sync compatibility with 3rd party systems alongside the Ovi systems.
to Aapo: is it still far from volume turn up on marketing? seems pohjakallio in hesari suggesting marketing to take off now?
@alexonline - you should be able to add and remove devices to your Nokia Account, so the account is certainly not specific to one device. Sign in to Ovi.com, in the sync section, and hit Add Device
@ damiankoh, yes, that's the current flow, we are working to improve the user flow for Ovi Suite and making it more easier and seamless to users, stay tuned for updates
@Text 100 MY Nokia is rolling out the Music offering on a geographic basis. We have currently rolled out in 11 countries and will be rolling out in more geopgraphies in the coming months.
what kind of take up do yoiu foresee for Ovi.com? can you share user figures for share on ovi anyway?
thanks kalle, i thought if everything (like really everything) can be seamlessly integrated onto one platform, that would be most ideal, of which this will have to include email (Exchange, or personal)
@ Tarmo - I'm working out of London on Ovi, so I'll need to find Hesari
Sounds like an interesting article!
Alright everyone, we have gone through a very intersting discussion about the latest additions on Ovi. Thanks for the excellent questions and comments. Please keep on providing us feedback - you guys inspire us to make Ovi better. Now, back to developing Ovi!
Appo: I'm just downloading Ovi but I see it only supports the as-yet unavailable N96, but also the N78 and 6210. Apologies if this has been asked before, but how quickly will all the other N-series devices be supported, E-Series etc... basically I want to try Ovi out but going by that list none of the Nokia's I have will work with it!!
Hi fellas i hope im not late like the last time... good morining to all
Alternatively, do you have numbrs for ngage and music store?
@ Nokia Staff = will u make ovi into a online tool that would support various fones (from nokia to lg to samsung to sony) and the setting like contacts, messages, gallery etc. saved to ovi online help in easy switching between diffrerent mobiles. something like backup but you can move data between various fone models...?
