  • V2 Status?

    +1

    I progressively came to use Particls less and less, and have now abandonded it. I'm using Twine a lot, as well as AideRss and Youlicit. I haven't looked at the new Yoono but it could be cool too. Competition is heavy, which is nice... Am really looking forward to trying Particls 2...

    Just checked the Particls blog. My impression is that DP and APML seem to be more important priorities for Faraday Media than Particls. Has Chris said anything about this lately?

  • character encoding troubles

    If the French had won the Rugby World Cup, priorities would of course have been revised. Unfortunately this didn't happen...

  • Hyperdata and the future of attention monitoring

    A very nice post yesterday on Nova Spivack's blog. It's about the semantic web as hyperdata.

    What does this have to do with Particls and attention modeling? Today, RSS allows us to subscribe to sources that bring us new documents, which Particls attempts to filter based on our interest profile. In the future, we will subscribe to topics (concepts, available on the web as data items) and we will be notified, by hyperdata-enabled RSS feeds, when they evolve. A hyperdata-enabled Particls will then map this evolution of the world-wide database to our interests...

  • English only spoken here?

    Funny thing is that it's not always like that: in most cases, accentuated characters are indeed removed from the item's title. But sometimes they come through very well. If for instance you subscribe to http://www.zdnet.fr/feeds/rss/actualites/?l=20 , you'll probably see some items from that feed in your ticker with the accents, and some without.

  • Ranking items appropriately

    Don't know about you, but some weirdos often make it to my sidebar, without any reason (to my knowledge). I mean, items coming from sources rated as "disliked", and not containing any of the words in my watchlist nor in the implicit section of my APML file. Maybe an "explain" option in the right-click menu (showing why this item was not filtered out) would be a nice addition for debugging purposes?

  • Removing the source and the articles

    Semantics again... I couldn't agree more:)

  • OutputThresholds

    Yesterday I was looking at Particls settings and was surprised to see that "Send most items to this adapter" was selected for the sidebar, which was not what I intended. So I changed it back to "Send only important items to this adapter".

    My APML file included this (although "Send only important items to this adapter" was selected for the sidebar):

    <OutputThresholds Key="particls.sidebar" NotUnder="0" NotOver="0" Enabled="Yes" />

    This seemed wrong... but new items seemed to arrive normally in the sidebar, so I let it running like that.

    Just a few minutes ago, I had to reboot and, not so surprisingly,  I saw the sidebar showing less and less content (items disappearing from the bottom).

    I checked again my apml file and I think the applications section may be corrupted: here's what it looks like now:

        <Applications>
          <Application Name="Particls">
            <OutputThresholds Key="newsticker" NotUnder="0,2" NotOver="1" Enabled="No" />
            <OutputThresholds Key="pop-up alerts" NotUnder="0,4" NotOver="1" Enabled="Yes" />
            <OutputThresholds Key="pebbles" NotUnder="0,4" NotOver="1" Enabled="No" />
            <OutputThresholds Key="touchstone.sidebar" Enabled="No" NotUnder="0,2" NotOver="1" />
            <OutputThresholds Key="particls.sidebar" NotUnder="-0,4" NotOver="1" Enabled="Yes" />
          </Application>
        </Applications>

  • Not receiving content

    I've had this behaviour before... I think it has to do with the sorting by relevance of the sidebar, even if you're in "Sort by date" (newest first) mode
