How would you describe Particls in one line? We're having trouble deciding

    2007-05-07 23:35:13.0

I like this quote from one of the giants in the understanding of human cognitive capabilities - Nobel Laureate (for economics but we won't hold that against him) Herbert Simon:

    2007-05-08 00:29:59.0

"A wealth of information creates a poverty of attention."(HS)

I came across this Citation in a slide presentation promoting the book "Findability"  http://www.slideshare.net/morville/findability (slide 14)

A rift on this concept along the lines of:

" A wealth of  Information through selective attention"

But I'm not a poet.... so no doubt it can be said better....  but I think you want it to quite precise to the filtering and specifically have at least the word "attention" in whatever you come up with....

I'll give it some thought overnight and see if I can conjure up some better wordsmithing!

    2007-05-08 00:32:41.0

Thanks Bricoleur! Great start - We have always used "Are you paying attention?" which uses the word attention - but as you suggest we need something that describes the product more specifically

    2007-05-08 00:46:04.0

How about: "Damnit! Why didn't somebody tell me they said that!?"

    2007-05-08 00:47:02.0

Or... "Particls: it'll read the million blogs you missed."

    2007-05-08 00:47:52.0

    oh I like that!:)

    2007-05-08 00:48:20.0

maybe "it'll watch" would be better

    2007-05-08 00:48:48.0

    Particls - settles your information

    2007-05-08 00:48:51.0

    So Marty your thinking...

"Particls: it'll watch the million blogs you missed."

    2007-05-08 00:53:27.0

    @dek - Settles? I'm not sure that's the right word:P

    2007-05-08 00:53:40.0

    yeah

    2007-05-08 00:54:00.0

    "Attention where deserved"

    2007-05-08 01:03:37.0

    "Purity of Attention"

    2007-05-08 01:07:00.0

    "Fix your attention"

    2007-05-08 01:07:58.0

    "Particls: the gift of attention."

    2007-05-08 01:08:51.0

    I like "Purity of Attention"

    that's nice

    2007-05-08 01:09:29.0

    "The Genius of Attention"

    2007-05-08 01:10:02.0

CHRIS: It's all I can think of when I see particls.... settling sediment

    2007-05-08 01:10:04.0

    or Attention Purity;)

    2007-05-08 01:10:08.0

    Divine Attention

    2007-05-08 01:11:14.0

    Attending to your attention

    :P

    2007-05-08 01:11:37.0

If it's a tagline then it should give a strong indication as to what it does as well.

    2007-05-08 01:11:52.0

Including puns is usually a sign of missing that.:)

    2007-05-08 01:12:13.0

    "Controlled Attention"

    2007-05-08 01:12:19.0

    (that's my general rule)

    2007-05-08 01:12:19.0

    Can't stand to attention?!

    2007-05-08 01:12:37.0

    Particular particles particulate particularly well.

    2007-05-08 01:13:13.0

    Hewwwwlp!

    Particls - managing your attention

    2007-05-08 01:13:26.0

    Or my favourite...

    2007-05-08 01:13:27.0

Quick, look at the pretty kitty!

    2007-05-08 01:13:58.0

I mean.. look at how happy that cat is! He's just got particls!

    2007-05-08 01:14:22.0

or an OQO 02 depending on which group you're in

    2007-05-08 01:14:29.0

    HAHAHAHAHA

    2007-05-08 01:14:58.0

Yeah I agree with Marty - we have sorta strayed into Slogans

    2007-05-08 01:15:20.0

I was hoping for a way of describing it quickly to someone

    2007-05-08 01:15:31.0

ahhhh..... Sorry missed the target there

    2007-05-08 01:16:12.0

Yeah, then i think stick to the core value/benefit. Keep it really boring until you get it right, then punify it to death and add pictures of happy kittens.

    2007-05-08 01:16:18.0

Here are some from the old Wiki we had set up

    2007-05-08 01:16:44.0

    • t’s like the news ticker on CNN except instead of CNN news, you get to choose the sources of information that matter to you
    • It’s the Winamp of Alerts and Updates. +
    • It’s the slice in “sliced bread”.
    • It’s the heads-up-display of a fighter jet – for the information junkie.
    • It’s the “I” in “Attention”
    • It’s the Messenger alert for every other program and website. +
    • It’s the “Management” in “Attention Management”
    • It’s the onscreen display of a 24 hour news network, on your desktop.
    • It’s the “control” in “remote control”
    • It’s the gadget that replaces all the other gadgets.
    • It’s instant messaging for your content
    • It’s reaching your readers and users while they work +
    • It’s about tuning out all the noise in your life so you can focus on what matters +
    • It’s the place where information meets and mingles.
    • Find the signal in the noise
    • Start paying attention to what matters
    • Get informed. Touchstone
    • It’s like going on a first date, and actually listening to what she has to say.

    2007-05-08 01:16:47.0

uuummm..... I'm not sure any of them actually shed any light on Particls....

But I liked the last one!

    2007-05-08 01:18:03.0

haha yeah not sure who added that one

    2007-05-08 01:18:20.0

The other one I thought was good was this: It’s the “Management” in “Attention Management”

But maybe it's still pretty vague

    2007-05-08 01:21:00.0

    nah... value value value

    2007-05-08 01:21:13.0

    what's it do for people

    2007-05-08 01:21:19.0

Simply the information that matters.... to you.

    2007-05-08 01:21:22.0

    lots of things provide information

    2007-05-08 01:21:40.0

what does particls do that's valuable, and that they most likely don't handle already (the nature of a problem)

    2007-05-08 01:22:16.0

The key is attention to matters that is filtered to the needs of the individual... (going back to the quote I gave from Simon)

    2007-05-08 01:22:43.0

so how does particls help you solve a problem?

    2007-05-08 01:23:09.0

Even with an eBook I don't think that you are going to get through the entire of volume of RSS feeds you've suggested you're behind on Marty!

    2007-05-08 01:23:35.0

    Keys to me:

    2007-05-08 01:23:51.0

It find things I woulnd't otherwise find

It filters most of the chaff out and gives me a remarkably high wheat/chaff ratio

    2007-05-08 01:24:31.0

ok, so it finds you things (of value) that you wouldn't normally find.

    2007-05-08 01:27:12.0

    Why wouldn't you find them?

    2007-05-08 01:27:17.0

    1) time

    2) not knowing where to look

    3) doing a one time/sporadic search on something I should be paying attention to on a regular basis

    2007-05-08 01:28:42.0

ok, that's good... now why is that valuable?

    2007-05-08 01:29:19.0

ie. what's the segment that will care and why?

    2007-05-08 01:29:33.0

    Listens to the Crickets:)

    2007-05-08 01:51:34.0

    hahah lol

    2007-05-15 00:51:34.0

i thought it was going well!

    2007-05-15 00:51:53.0

Haha yeah but you killed it when you asked what Particls' real value was - stumped everyone XP

    2007-05-15 17:51:32.0

I'll be back with a treatise yetXP

    2007-05-15 20:04:53.0

    How about

It's always ready to listen to you - even at 3am

    2007-05-18 00:51:38.0

    maybe "listen for you"

    2007-05-22 09:04:47.0

    how about:

"It clears out the echo of information"

    2007-06-07 15:27:07.0
