I sometimes find that I click on the logo on a Ticker feed item and not only it fades but the item following it fades as well...

Any other reports of this? If not I'll try to thrash the beast and see if I can track down exact circumstances where it arises.... abricbit

Actually this is also discussed in the Waiting for content topic:P

We never see it happen over here - it's strange

    2007-05-25 04:00:34.0

Sounds like a job for Bri haha

    2007-05-25 04:00:40.0

    Get my email btw?

    2007-05-25 04:00:50.0

ok just read it over in the other topic... but that seems to be a minor observation there rather than the main stream discussion... so If I do come  up with more details I'll follow up here...

Yes on email - replied same way short time ago.... will discuss more here when time is right!

    Ok mate - thanks!

    2007-05-25 16:58:53.0

hmm ... this one is going to be tricky..

    So far:

    • two occurences of items from the same source fade when the icon clicked (? not sure if limited to this; haven't seen it happen though on clicking on main body of ticker item)
    • one occurence of an item that I haven't touched at all showing up on the ticker in already faded state

No apparent commonality in source, nature of feed (RSS vs feedburner vs Atom etc)...

I'm pretty sure that Many Eyes on the problem will be a big help to wrestle this one down ....

    We need a nasal spray:)

    2007-05-27 02:40:51.0

    hehehehe

Am I thinking what you are thinking?

    2007-05-27 03:40:10.0

I think Bri was thinking about it too when he named the topicXP

    2007-05-27 04:08:18.0

I have encountered the same problem.

Where items that I haven't touched at all show up on the ticker in already faded state.

using latest version, with only 1feed address and "automatically find info. for me"&"auto detect" options enabled.Also,

How do i turn off pop-ups? I'm getting popups even when i haven't clicked on the play icon next to popup alerts. So wat does those little play icons in outputs & Interruptions do actually.

    2007-05-31 11:09:01.0

The icons in "Outputs & Interruptions" are a little counter-intuitive. Instead of, when playing, it showing a pause icon telling you that you can click on it to pause it, it shows a play icon. (to show it's playing)

The easiest way to control  the outputs is to right-click on the Particls icon, go to the Pop Up menu (or other menu) and un-check the "enabled" option.

ok so the popups resolved, thanks. But

what about the premature fading of trickling articles which i havent touched a bit.

    2007-06-01 08:48:31.0

    Varun:

I've been Beta testing Particls for a couple months now... as I said in the first post to this target, it is intermittent for me... I've been involved in my own work and haven't been able to seriously try to catch the exact conditions... and as Chris (of Particls) said they haven't observed it themselves... If you have information that would help please post it here... the more eyes on an intermittent problem the more likely we are to be able to point the Particls folks in the right direction... have you noticed if it only happens with particular sources; only after you have dismissed other items from the same source; only after you have read particular sources; anything like this could give the thread that 'needs to be pulled' to get enough data for Particls to recreate the problem themselves...

    2007-06-01 14:21:03.0

Please note that premature fading to me means when you click on one item, and about 2 or more other items seem to fade away at the exact same time - and it isn't a co-incidence. Items that come and go quickly without the click is actually by design - the item barely makes it onto the ticker and then quickly drops off. If this is viewed as a problem then it is a different category of problem :)

    2007-06-01 21:09:26.0

No i do not click them, they come and fade and continue to move towards left in a faded state, without me even moving my cursor to them.I have setting to default with, popups disabled and 17 watch words.(default feed source and auto watch words for me, option on,thats it,)

About the sources issue as  "Bricoleur" was mentioning i have seen 2 items 1 faded and another normal from the same source(news.google) coming side by side,so i guess sources cant be it.

    2007-06-02 10:43:43.0

An item that comes in a faded state is an item that is about to be dropped from the ticker so that's the last time it is coming through - that's not a bug Varun:)

    2007-06-02 17:39:51.0

Well i see that faded item come more than once i'm sure. But anyways i reinstalled my OS and particls soi'm starting fresh now. Thanks for your help though.

    2007-06-03 06:01:56.0

Chris: not sure that what I'm chasing is just a matter the dropping of the old items.... I am aware of that. process of course and sometimes leave things in the stream long enough for that to happen.

But  the 2 cases that I suspect  of coming on faded when they shouldn't  are very rare occurrences... one was with an item that, according to the time stamp, was only 21 minutes old (I don't know the exact date of the item from this information of course)... .. and the items on each side of it where much older... I don't think it had been across the screen at all.... Unfortunately I didn't have my wits about me to capture it ., I haven't had a case  since that I can definitively say was not an old item marked for deletion.. So 1) I may be chasing a very rare black swan or 2) the problem was some combination of set up/other factors and can't arise with the current release (i'll check my notes to see if it was on the last release or this one that I last saw it).

The 'premature fading' of items that are current still happens ... but I haven't got the smoking gun on it either....

I agree that they should be discussed as separate issues... if the fading on birth happens again I'll raise a new topic...and only post here about   the fading of multiple items as described in my opening comment at the top of this steam...

    2007-06-03 11:47:12.0

Just capturing the clues  in this post ...

The image shows two items captured off the ticker...the first was a victim of preamature fading... I'd clicked on the item immediately before it and it had faded.. the next item did not... In this particular example all three were "from Particls" (not all cases are)...(note the three were in sequence,... first not shown; other two in sequence they were on the Ticker).

But note time stamps... the time stamp fromParticls is presumably when it is added to  the feed? it is not directly related to the age of the item as indicated by the source...

    2007-06-03 16:35:13.0

The LexisNexis story "  seemed to be a victim of Premature Fading.... The Ubuntu displayed normally.... but note that although Paticls time stamp = 48m 14 s the date stamp on the story is 21 minutes ago.... is this a hint there may be something not quite kosher in how time zones of the various sources are handled?  too soon to tell ... but I'll add this to my 'watch list'

    2007-06-03 16:37:34.0

Right back at ya, Chris! Blink and you miss it ???

    Just came across my Ticker...

    2007-06-03 16:49:26.0

Bri you are way too good at this:)

    2007-06-03 17:16:49.0

Note that Particls will try to use the publish date of the post as it's time/date stamp however many feeds use really poorly formated time/date stamps so it is forced to use the time of discovery by particls as the star time
