I am not averse to the odd cup of instant coffee.  I've even had instant tea.  But real coffee (and tea) made properly is something to enjoy rather than to just have a cup of coffee (or tea).  I often find that the expensive high street coffee houses serve bitter coffee.  For me, there is only one reason to use Starbucks, that is they have WiFi...

For the notifier - (assuming it is connecting fine) Go into Busy, and then go back to Available mode.

For date issue - hit crtl+r and see how that works
