Twitter has SMS bridge.
Pownce has file sharing.
I don't understand why there is even a conversation about Pownce vs Twitter... That's just weird. I don't see many similarities yet
REally?
You have friends, you write short messages, you get pinged, you have a public event stream.
Other than no sms, although that might come.....
Well sms is costly for both ends. Users and the service. Honestly I hope they dont do sms, but Im sure they will.
Techcrunch's comparison;
Twitter obviously has the upper hand right now being the most widely used community. The only reason Pownce is garnering such a following is because of Kevin Rose and the interface (a new, shiny site). Some of the features are interesting, but they are going to have to do quite a bit to get people away from the Twitter way that people are used to.
I wish they could be integrated some how.
Re Kevin Rose:
there has been an indication of some backlash on Digg towards him and Pownce.... friction arising from such things as Digg 'regulars' not getting preferrential treatment on the invites all the way to just general backlash still coming because of angst over the 'key' issue...
Sheesh
Digg Dugg its own Ditch
LOL
But I thought Mashable was giving out invites to all digg users. I think Kevin solved the "preferential" problem. Anyway, enough people have invites now that the Digg community should be able to invite itself.
If pownce gets an API and SMS bridge, then it might be useful. Especially if they do intelligent things with the SMS, like accept picture/video messages.
....Utterz already accepts picture and video messages
And let Pownce be freeeeee
akraut has a good point. Sending pictures and video to Pownce from a mobile phone using MMS... very useful. That would have to be the best idea any of us have had in quite a while.
