Anyone thinking of paying for this?
Not me. Although I guess it's hard to think about it now.
Especially - no ads.... I couldn't see any yet. Maybe it's a warning.
Well Im used to ignoring ads. I see no reason to pay.
I see no reason either.
Is adless browsing the only feature you can pay for? If so, then even 20$ a year is highway robbery!! I mean, sure, it's less than a 1-year deviantART subscription, but that offers many extra account features!
It should offer more than higher file size, and the ad thing well is just blah. Maybe like custom profile designs. Maybe make files public. Have links that actually take you to a new window/tab instead of loading into the current one.
I guess it's not highway robbery in that case, but they might be overdoing it.
I mean, deviantART subscriptions offer:
Thanks for the invite chapel. I've signed up logged in and am not really understanding exactly what is so great about pownce and why would you pay for it?
I agree, the Pro accounts are too expensive for what they currently offer.
Here are the ads:
No way I would pay to join Pownce. 20 isn't really anything but its not even worth that to me.
yeah,
I agree right now. A free Twitter is better than a $20 Pownce. However, I do feel a better sense of community on Pownce since you can reply directly to messages. Seems more like a conversation that a broadcasting .
btw (off topic, but thought I'd ask sense everyone seems to be in this room). How did Weewar get that custom background? Is that a new feature or did you do that for them custom.
It's a new feature which is just being trialled right now bj
I think starting of with a payment system in place is a good thing. Tells everybody where it is headed and allows them to tweak it according to user feedback. I also think it is tbetter to go slightly too expensive rather then to cheap. Becasue everybody loves when prices come down, not so much the other way around.
I agree, Alex, didn't really think of that before (and I'm pretty sure that's what they'll do if they don't add more features). My biggest problem is that AIR isn't working on Leopard![]()
In my opinion, paying a fee for a product that is ONLY USEFUL if many of your friends/contacts use it should not charge for features. Google gets this, thus give users all features, but mostly charge for extra space. If Pownce wnats to charge anything, I hope they don't start making you pay for features, IE "you can only have a blog here if you pay", because then noone will use it. Paying for bigger storage space for files, having more than 100 contacts etc. would make sense, also the added bonus of not seing ads is a plus (they have to make their money back some way, so I don't mind ads, or paying to not see them).
As it stands now, I have a webhost with 100GB+ storage, so I have no reason to pay for space there, but I am sure someone might need it some day, if enough people start using it....Though, I have my doubts...I think they started inviting too many people too soon, so "everyone" can see how few features there are..
I think they would have done better waiting a while, making it feature rich, then opening it up for "everyone" like it is now...
I think they invited to few people.. nobody was able to get all their friend on this initially.. and it is really not working well if you do not have a familiar group of people to use it with. I agree that you need to choose the features you charge for wisely but I do not think that you need to give most away for free. As far as I can tell they are charging for premium services with a nice base level being free.
