This riddle is based on the recent movie Fracture. As such, there will be no points. Also, you may want to skip it if you are planning on seeing the movie.
A man's wife is cheating on him. When he confronts her he shoots her in cold blood. He then fires the gun outside the window causing the gardener to alert the police. He remains inside the house until the police arrive.
The police handle it like a hostage situation and send in a negotiator. When the negotiator gets inside the house he recognizes the wife as his illicit lover. There is a scuffle and the husband is arrested.
In the ensuing investigation, ballistics reveal that the husband's gun has never been fired despite the recovery of four slugs. Where did he hide the murder weapon?
the last question kinda threw me off. i was just gonna guess that he didnt use his own gun.
what kind of scuffle?
does the type of gun matter?
is it possible that the guy owned more than one gun?
wow. this one's gonna take a while I'm guessing... good film though, great plot. you should check out the three alternate endings on the dvd
I looked up the answer on Wikipedia
It's a good one ![]()
If the wife is dead, then why do they send in the negotiator?
I recently watched this, and may I just say, I guessed it from the start![]()
Will
now
The police do not know the wife is dead or even if anyone has been hurt. (It turns out she is alive, but a vegetable.)
That's too bad dek, it would have been an easy point for you...
yeah, that's amazing to guess it so early... maybe you should be cop... or a criminal! ![]()
Yeah.... I could so easily be a criminal.... my mind surprises me sometimes
did the negotiator have a gun?
Yes
was it the same as the husbands?
One could distinguish between the two of them
so.....he didn't shoot his wife with his own gun, then swap it with negotiators during the scuffle?
There are a lot of assumptions in your supposition you may want to revisit. But no, that is not what happened.
Does the 'shoot' refer to a camera?
Did his wife have a gun?
No and no
Giving up on this one Monty?
ooh...forgot about this one...
I thought maybe bluegirl could give you some competition
did the husband know that the negotiator was his wife's lover?
if so was this all a set up?
hey drdec.....are you trying to set me up on a date with romeo?
technically there is no murder, correct? but this is pretty much irrelevant?
just checking...
did the wife have a gun?
did the husband know that the negotiator was his wife's lover? yes
if so was this all a set up? yes
hey drdec.....are you trying to set me up on a date with romeo? no
technically there is no murder, correct? but this is pretty much irrelevant? The described events were not technically murder; tangentially relevant
did the wife have a gun? no
so was he trying to set the lover up to be arrested for the murder?
or was he trying to get him there to murder him as well?
which doesn't make as much sense......if he came on official business.....
did the husband intend to kill her dead?
or did he achieve what he wanted?
so was he trying to set the lover up to be arrested for the murder? no
or was he trying to get him there to murder him as well? no
which doesn't make as much sense......if he came on official business.....
did the husband intend to kill her dead? yes
or did he achieve what he wanted? not at that time
did he want to get caught?
did he just want to face the lover?
did he think he was going to get away with it?
did he want to get caught? yes
did he just want to face the lover? no
did he think he was going to get away with it? yes
he wanted to get caught, but he thought he would get away with it?
huh..
he wanted to get caught, but he thought he would get away with it? Exactly
did he want to shove it in the lover's face?
torment him?
you did say he didn't plan to kill the lover or frame him....correct?
did he want the lover to kill him?
did he want to shove it in the lover's face? yes
torment him? yes
you did say he didn't plan to kill the lover or frame him....correct? I don't recall if I said it, but yes, that is correct
did he want the lover to kill him? no
there were 4 slugs.....at least 1 in the wife and and at least 1 outside....
his gun hadn't been fired........
they arrested him....did they find gunshot residue on his hands?
am i over thinking this part?
did he intend to shoot the wife when he confronted her?
or was it just a reaction?
was this whole plot pre-meditated?
i guess those are sort of the same question...
so how was he planning to get away with this........
i'm sort of thinking out loud here......
might not be such a good idea if i don't solve this before romeo returns....
it's almost too late for him to show up.......but i'm not quite out of the woods yet...
were the other 2 slugs found inside?
1 inside and 1 outside?
2 outside?
(these are aside from the ones we know are in the wife and outside)
is the number of slugs recovered relevant?
they arrested him....did they find gunshot residue on his hands? Not sure if they checked or not
am i over thinking this part? no
did he intend to shoot the wife when he confronted her? yes
or was it just a reaction? no
was this whole plot pre-meditated? yes
is the number of slugs recovered relevant? no
okay....thinking out loud again.....
his plan was to confront and kill his wife....lure the lover to his home to say...."hah! if i can't have her....neither can you.....i killed her and there's nothing you can do about it"....
...he had somehow planned on getting away.....how?
did he think the lover would break down and he'd be able to run away?....did he plan to knock the guy out and failed?
I could have sworn this riddle was solved. Maybe I just read the IMDB synopsis or something...
uhh...in the back of the toilet!
god i hope not...too obvious.....and doesn't explain anything.
did they decide the gun wasn't fired based on the shells or the actual gun?
cause he could have just carried the shells
and did they test the casings against the negotiator's gun? cause he could have just switched them
did they decide the gun wasn't fired based on the shells or the actual gun? Both
and did they test the casings against the negotiator's gun? No
you never answered me about where the extra slugs were found.....
or if it's relevant...
Does he want the police to find him?
is the number of slugs recovered relevant? no
Does he want the police to find him? Huh, the police already have him in custody
not the number of slugs....where they were found...
Ah, no, it is not relevant.
So he just switched guns with the Negotiater... they didn't test his gun against the bullets
No, they tested his gun against the bullets and verified it was the gun he purchased and registered.
i think it was already established that they didn't switch guns.
I never said that
really?
okay.
did he switch the guns?
did he switch the guns? Yes
so he shot her with the negotiators gun?
or am i confused?
so he shot her with the negotiators gun? Yes
so the lover has his gun?
or am i confused? No, you are on the right track
so the lover has his gun? When?
when he shows up at the scene as a negotiator...
when he shows up at the scene as a negotiator... yes
if he shot the wife with the lovers gun....he already had it...
if he shot the wife with the lovers gun....he already had it... yes, go on
but you said he didn't plan to frame the lover?
did he switch the guns personally?
but you said he didn't plan to frame the lover? correct
did he switch the guns personally? yes
did he somehow plan to make the lover think that he (the lover) had killed her?
or make the wife think that the lover wanted her dead?
did he somehow plan to make the lover think that he (the lover) had killed her? no
or make the wife think that the lover wanted her dead? no
Now you might be over-thinking it, try summarizing what you know
okay he switched guns with the lover.....confronted the wife and shot her.....lured the lover to the scene.....to torment him......
did he actually hide the gun?
or just switch them back?
did he actually hide the gun? no
or just switch them back? yes
so in the scuffle he switched the guns again....so the lover has the murder weapon.
Exactly
dammit...i turn away for a few minutes and you solve the whole damn thing
so now what am i figuring out?
or is that it?
It's a good movie if you get the chance to see it
@snowball......i was working on it all morning.....i couldn't let you snipe me...
yeah i'll check it out.
You answered the original question, what did he do with the murder weapon
is there more?
bah
There's more to the movie, but not the riddle
cool.
go figure out the what am i blue
no one seems to be getting the general idea and i didn't really think it'd be this hard
it's a hard one.
I think I could start taking part in this riddle... enough time has passed for me to forget the plot
it's done, dek.

and it was very hard work, believe me.
