There is a toilet cubicle at work which nobody uses, however it will get used if the other one is occupied, why?

    2009-09-01 17:26:19.0

    Handicap accessible?

    2009-09-01 18:49:58.0

There's only one main 'lockable' door?

    2009-09-01 20:42:39.0

Nope, the 'function' of the cubicles is identical and each has its own lockable door

    2009-09-01 21:09:18.0

This is now beginning to sound eerily familiar...

    2009-09-01 21:27:44.0

its got nothing to do with drdecs 'The Urinals'

    2009-09-01 21:35:27.0

Are they in the same room?

    2009-09-01 21:39:45.0

the "rejected urinal will get used" means

either actually a second person using it

or rejected urinal just flushes without anybody using it.

if this riddle is different than "The urinals" then I am guessing that first part is ruled out

if second part is true, then it must be drawing water from same tank line and when good one is flushed , the rejected one automatically gets flushed or used.

ewwwwwww....I smell lot of urinal filth by now.

    2009-09-02 03:16:20.0

Are they in the same room? Yes

the "rejected urinal will get used" means either actually a second person using it or rejected urinal just flushes without anybody using it.

As in, if someone is doing their business in the other one, then someone will do their business in the 'rejected' one and use it as normal.

Basically I am looking for a reason why one will always get used over the other if there is a choice

    2009-09-02 04:01:37.0

Is the answer literal or lateral? Mundane or wacky? I'm guessing wacky.

    2009-09-02 05:40:19.0

When you say "function" is the same, do you mean everything physical is the same? Both have seats, etc? Would they look like clones of each other? If so, I'm guessing it's either an odor issue or line-of-sight... as in, the boss can see your feet under one cubicle and see that you're slacking off kind of thing.

    2009-09-02 05:44:09.0

Would a stranger also avoid this cubicle? If not, would they suffer some discomfort somehow?

    2009-09-02 05:45:24.0

    Is it haunted?

Is it a case of the nearest one gets used first?

    2009-09-02 11:26:03.0

    it's a childrens one - so smaller?
    it smells?
The normal one is closer to the door?"

    2009-09-02 15:58:53.0

Was someone at the company being punished, and that was his new office?

    2009-09-05 19:00:05.0

actually no, the further away one gets used most. This has happened/is happening at our work. The answer is not wacky and is something most people wouldnt really think twice about

    2009-09-06 01:35:04.0

Is the answer literal or lateral? Mundane or wacky? I'm guessing wacky. Literal

Would they look like clones of each other? Yes

Is there an object(s) present in one stall that isn't in the other?

    Is temperature involved?

    2009-09-06 07:30:19.0

Ceiling fan or ventilation ... vent, directing a stream of hot/cold air into one of the cubicles?

    2009-09-06 07:44:20.0

LOL I thought of the drdec's riddle too... unfortunately, I have nothing for this one.. :(

    1x

Toilet is reserved for disabled people.

    2009-09-06 16:52:02.0

good guess. is there a sign on the door? is the door the part that is different?

    2009-09-07 21:47:10.0

is the difference something a blind person would perceive?

    2009-09-07 21:50:19.0

is the further cubicle better in some way? does it have a great view out a window? you say the cubicles are identical, but what about the surrounding features... the walls, ceiling, floor?

    2009-09-07 21:51:52.0

there is an unflushable mess in the second?

    the water overflows when flushed?

    it doesnt flush?

there is a sign that advises against using it?

    there is no toilet seat?

    it looks different?

    2009-09-08 03:56:46.0

Is there an object(s) present in one stall that isn't in the other? In a sence, yes

    Is temperature involved? No

Ceiling fan or ventilation ... vent, directing a stream of hot/cold air into one of the cubicles? No

Toilet is reserved for disabled people. No

good guess. is there a sign on the door? is the door the part that is different? No

is the difference something a blind person would perceive? No, a blind person wouldnt notice

is the further cubicle better in some way? Obviously it is better in some way does it have a great view out a window? No you say the cubicles are identical, but what about the surrounding features... the walls, ceiling, floor? There is a difference, but not in the function of the cubicle itself

there is an unflushable mess in the second? No

the water overflows when flushed? No

it doesnt flush? no (Not the answer)

there is a sign that advises against using it? No

there is no toilet seat? No

it looks different? Yes, but not a complete answer (why?)

    2009-09-08 14:36:22.0

Would they look like clones of each other? Yes

    So... not exact clones then.

Is one of them an ugly colour?

    2009-09-08 21:01:32.0

is there a poster on one of the walls? some image or symbol that people prefer not to look at?

    2009-09-09 02:02:04.0

Does one have a mirror somewhere in the cubicle? Having to look at yourself can feel like you're being watched...

    2009-09-09 07:50:48.0

Does one have word of the day/sudoku/crossword toilet paper?

    2009-09-09 11:48:15.0

is one for mens and one for ladies... workers and customers? so they just use the other is one is full?

does one have a toilet and the other a urine? or badai? :S lol

is one further to go saying up stairs while the good one is on the main floor?

    2009-09-10 22:23:52.0

    One cubicle is occupied.

    2009-09-10 22:41:51.0

is this difference a custom addition? or an accidental difference?

    2009-09-11 07:22:32.0

You've said a stranger would avoid the bad cubicle, but that a blind person wouldn't notice the difference, so it must be something that's visual, immediately noticeable, and universally a reason to not use a toilet...

But it's not to do with odour, temperature, position, size, mess, haunting, reservation for the disabled or signage.

They're in the same room, both are fully functional, have seats and locks on the doors and "in essence" are of identical makeup. Although clearly they aren't entirely clones of each other, since one has an immediately noticeable difference that prevents people from using it.

    More questions...

Would the difference be noticeable with the cubicle doors closed?

Is the thing that makes the difference...
    ...on the walls?
    ...on the floor?
    ...on the ceiling?
    ...something about the toilet itself?
...something about some other fixing inside the cubicle?

    2009-09-11 08:25:02.0

Has the lightbulb in the second one gone out?

Or maybe there's a broken window in it?

    2009-09-11 08:45:21.0

Is it surrounded by that mirrored glass, so you can see out but not see in?

Has the inside of the cubicle been painted a rather disgusting brown colour?

Is there an unnaturally realistic looking person painted on the inside of the door, who just seems to be staring at you all the time?

    2009-09-11 11:25:43.0

Has the lightbulb in the second one gone out? Correct!

Sorry SK, the answer I gave to this question 'Would they look like clones of each other?' was kind of misleading, I read it quickly as 'are the cubicles clones of eachother', but still one could argue that my answer was true, i.e. yes the cubicles would look the same under normal conditions

    2009-09-14 05:58:55.0

Does one have word of the day/sudoku/crossword toilet paper?

Wow that exists?? if we had that then i would spend much longer than the standard 1 hr a day in there!

    2009-09-14 06:01:22.0

Yes, you can get toilet paper with all kinds of things printed on it. Never understood the appeal myself, you'd either have to wait until you'd finished a sheet before you could use it or... well, the other alternative isn't one I would contemplate.
