I'm not yet able to give a really good justification, but I suspect that SIOC (Semantically-Interlinked Online Communities) project will be important to Tangler one day.  It's a machine-readable way to link blogs, forums and mailing lists to each other. When coupled with FOAF (Friend Of A Friend) for individuals, it gives a way for agents to do some searching and (perhaps more importantly) filtering for you.

No-one actually puts their email address in a FOAF file for that reason. You use the foaf:mbox_sha1sum property and use a hashed email address.
