Ma.gnolia - is by far my number 1 tool for networking.

The reason I love using it is because I can share bookmarks, create and share a group, create discussions, mail members, linkroll my bookmarks and tags, login using OpenID, and distribute my bookmarks with RSS. Not to mention hold a personal profile on it as well.

Hmmm... i guess it depends how you define social media

Social Media to me is a media outlet used to socialize with others. Basically any tool you use to socialize across the internet (besides your blog) with.

has levelled off as well, but is still very popular.. that levelling might just be it's reached it's peak nearing the top 100

Del.icio.us is an old dog with a hugh fan base plus all other social bookmarking services pull information from it so that could be why traffic rank is superior to other similar sites.

As far as gnolia's stuttering growth I think its because they rather have organic growth rather than spend $$$ on marketing campaigns plus they were having server issues earlier this year. I think they already resolved that issue though.

Actaully the delicious stuff has been somewhat mitigiated by alexa issues...

    2007-03-23 05:58:07.0

Which basically shows that alexa is flawed... for the nth time

I'm actually a fan of magnolia... which is why I'm trying to understand why it's not catching on.

just read the article and checked it against compete.com and it seemed to have the same numbers there too.

    2007-03-23 06:08:33.0

aah ok. well there goes that theory:)

    2007-03-23 06:08:53.0

You can never tell what the true numbers are anyways. Nowadays people use anonymous surfing and cache clearing browsers that clear out sessions so that everytime they launch the browser its like being a unique visitor all over again. I think Its better to measure the amount of activity of each visit.

    2007-03-23 06:16:13.0

true... though I probably trust compete more than anything else.

I like the idea of ma.gnolia and such, but the problem a lot of these services have is that I use del.icio.us rather than ma.gnolia because of the "all my friends are on" kind of mentality. Back when I first tried ma.gnolia, there weren't many users so I wasn't wowed with the service.

plus, the reason things like me.dium aren't exploding is that they first publish information to get some VC backing, but by the time they get out of the private alpha, everyone's already forgotten them so nobody is even around to "not care".

that said, I actually use DeviantArt for more social "media" activity than anything else. Though getting the regular popular del.icio.us bookmarks feeds helps quite a bit too.

I am not much a social networker, but I would have to say that Facebook provide me with everything I need.

    2007-07-19 21:18:12.0

I think there are so many social bookmarking services it's hard for Magnolia to differentiate themselves from all the others.  With Delicious being first, they're prominent in people's minds when they think "social bookmarking."  Plus, as with any social-type site, people flock to that which everyone else is at.  Sharing is more fun when there's more people.  So Delicious wins there as well.

Blogging is a great tool for me, and I'm really loving Pownce right now.  Looking forward to Cluztr's opening as well - aggregating all your social activity, with web browsing and matching up "friends" based on where you spend your time is a very interesting concept to me.
