Hey guys so I figured we can introduce ourselves here, give a bit of info (or not if not comfortable) & any other random things....bring attention to something etc....
Hey guys - It's Gilly's birthday today! Gilly- I hope you don't mind me spilling the beans? It's just always nice when you get an unexpected birthday wish!
Have a wonderful, wonderful day. I hope your year filled with good health, masses of laughter & tons of happiness.
Speak to you later! Enjoy your cake & presents. HAPPY BIRTHDAY! ![]()
Thanks much! I don't mind the beans being spilled . . . I'm not sensitive about it. I think I'm turning the big 3-0 with equilibrium, except for dying my hair brown after being a blonde for the first 30 years of my life! But hey, when I turned 20 I moved to another country and joined a foreign military, so as drastic moves go, I guess I'm mellowing with my old age.
You know what they say -- blondes may have more fun but brunettes get the last word. Happy Birthday!
Ha, ha I had never heard that one before. It fits me better than blondes have more fun, too. I like it!
IT"S UP!!!!!!!
Hi! Sorry I didn't introduce myself earlier . . . I've never joined a forum before but considering I am totally consumed with these books and CANNOT wait for the 9th to come out in May, I thought I'd join--It's confirmed. I'm a junkie.
My name is Andrea, I'm 28, an Aries, married, 2 dogs, live in Fort Lauderdale and absolutely LOVE to read (I'll read anything--fiction or nonfiction).
My favorite character hands-down is Eric. I loved him from the start. What else needs to be said?
Hi there I didn't introduce myself either! This is the first time I have ever been in a forum, blog etc. My friend Andrea above got me in here and I am so glad she did. I love hearing everyone's point of view! We thought we were the only ones obsessed...glad we aren't.
So here I am, my name is Kathryn I am 30, a Libra, unmarried, god dogs and live in Ft. Laud....totally copied you Andrea! :) I love to read as well, but since Andrea is a book junky and has great choices I usually follow her lead!
Hey Kathryn - well nice to meet cha'. Welcome, enjoy & have fun ![]()
Hello all, sorry I also found the introduction area a little late. My name is Holli, I am 27 and live in Portland, OR. I'm soon to be married, have a 4 yr old, and am back in college getting my English degree. I love to read, anything and everything multiple times. (My fiance can't believe how many books I have accumulated over the years!) I will go ahead and say that I am also a follower of Eric - you know it's always the one they tell you that you aren't supposed to love that ends up being best for you!![]()
Welcome, and enjoy.
I'm Nancy, one of the moderators here. We'll have more things posted in the coming days and weeks - it's just that I've been a little slow (okay, busy with work and stuff), so I haven't posted some of the things that I should have.![]()
What's the focus of your major (Literature, Creative Writing, Criticism, Comparative Lit, etc.), just asking out of curiosity, from one English major (Creative Writing) to another.![]()
Hey Holli - Glad to have you. Welcome. This is really cool - our entire forum is full of pretty avid or even voracious readers. I'm Laura - the other Mod. We also have a thread which is a bit more fun for Introductions "Who's your fave?..." if you'd like to check out some info on the other posters.
I 2nd Nancy's post. We've been a bit slow getting things up lately. But hopefully within the week. Busy with getting things done for the holidays.
Hello everyone! This is Claire from California. I stumbled into this whole vampire series thing when I saw the first episode of True Blood on HBO on Demand, then I proceeded to watch all three episode that I missed and I did it in one sitting (yes, I ended up sleeping at 2 am). Then I got hooked on Charlaine's books, went out and bought all seven of them and read them ALL in three days. I am in my fourth go around of the books series (that now includes book 8).
I am a mom and a wife; love to read. We are raising a very beautiful, smart and wise 11 year old that wants to get into the movies. I work fulltime for the perfect boss and with three engineering nerds that know how to have genuine fun in their geeky sort of way.
I already enjoy reading this forum and am just thrilled that Charlaine drops by occasionally and answers some of the questions posted. Yes, I think Alexander Skarsgard is gorgeous and it seems that his casting was like reaching into the books and voila! Eric in the flesh.
Y'all have a great holiday!
Hi Claire. Welcome.
You're not alone in the whole "Then I got hooked on Charlaine's books, went out and bought all seven of them and read them ALL in three days" thing - same thing happened to me as well. Except I bought the hard copies, then bought a Kindle so that I could have the electronic versions in an easy to carry form so that I could travel with all the books, then I bought all of the audiobooks from Audible (they just released book 4, DTTW, on Dec. 15th) - so, yeah, you should fit right in. ![]()
I should clear up that Charlaine Harris does not drop by here - the Q&A bits are from CH's own website (http://www.charlaineharis.com), and Laura, the co-moderator and founder of this group, sifts through a lot of stuff to dig out the bits that are informative and useful. And for that we all owe her a great big tip of the hat.
Happy holidays to all (yes, I'm a 'holidays' person - 'cause most of my life has been centered in or around schools/colleges and usually you don't see people from Christmas Eve day (or before), until after the New Year - also, I'm so bad about sending out cards, that I prefer things that take the New Year holiday into account - also buys me some time).
Also, this is the closest that you'll come to getting a holiday card from me (my husband sent his out, I didn't like the cards that he chose, and was going to use the ones that I bought back in Oct - really nice Edward Gorey ones, but I still can't find them). Oh well...Merry Christmas to all, and to all another year full of Charlaine Harris and Sookie Stackhouse goodness.
Hello everyone! My name is Kaylee and I'm from Canada. I've always loved to read and immerse myself in another world, and when I was young I decided I would become an editor so I could make a living off my favourite hobby. I've never had an interest in vampires really (loved Brad Pitt as Louis though) and then a friend got me on Twilight, which I enjoyed but found the writing lacking. Around the same time my mom began watching True Blood on HBO and I began accompanying her. Soon I was enraptured by this world. However, when my mom decided to purchase the first two novels of the series that inspired the show, I was hesitant to read them. I have always been preferential to whatever I was exposed to first (Harry Potter books rather than the films etc.). But soon after I picked the first one up and was immediately engrossed. Sookie resembled me (buxom, blonde) and her books were satisfyingly well written. Eric's sexiness oozed out of the pages just as sure as Bill's romantics wooed me too. I read all eight in a matter of days. When I saw my mom wearing the True Blood shirt from the HBO website I was Jealous! I wanted one too and for Christmas I got Merlotte's staff shirt and as an extra bonus, money to purchase the Fangtasia t-shirt as well (love that Eric).
I simply cannot wait for May, I will continue to reread the existing books so I can stave my fix. I just adore the books, Sookie's pain is my pain, her sex life is my sex life
. I love Bill and Eric and Quinn and Alcide, I'll be happy if she stays with any of them (well, Eric or Bill preferably). I actually laugh out loud at the books, and find myself sharing tidbits of the plots with people who've never heard of Miss Stackhouse. I'm so happy I've found this place so I can discuss one of my favourite series of all time!
Welcome, Kaylee.
We know how you feel. ![]()
Hello everyone, my name is Ryley and I live in Markham Canada. I was never a fan of the vampire genre, I tried reading the Anita Blake series but quickly lost interest until I accidently caught TB. I watched the series then next day went out to buy DUD - finished it in a day and a half (locked the office door & pretended to be busy) - I couldn't put it down. I spent my lunch hour scouring book stores for the next books in the series. I'm sure those bookstore employees thought I was crazy.
Joining this forum is also a first for me. I have been bugging my sister to read the books so I could have someone to discuss them with, she's so not interested in the genre but to get me off her back she went digging around and forwarded me this site. I was reading and laughing (aloud) at the TB rants & was happy to see that there are others as obsessed as me! I just finished book 8 and am going to start DUD again tomorrow with more of a critical eye. Can't wait to join in the discussions. I LOVE Eric - but am sad that Bill is such a dick (sorry!) During DUD I sensed an edge about him.
HI Ryley - Welcome & enjoy. Defo have a look through all the threads, there are many but if you're doing a re-read, you may catch things to look out for!
Hi all! Big fan of the Sookie Stackhouse series, and am looking forward to posting real soon (at least until I can learn to navigate my way through the threads.
Hey there. My name is Kendal. I am married, 3 kids (10 1/2, 8 and 3), am American, but am also an "accidental expat": originally from California, I currently live in Zurich, Switzerland, but have also lived in London, New Jersey and Bermuda due to my husband's job.
I got involved in Sookie's life through "True Blood". I am a fan of Alan Ball's - I liked American Beauty and loved Six Feet Under - and have always loved sexy vampires (oh, Spike, how I miss thee), so thought I would really love "True Blood". Well... I enjoyed watching the first season, but did feel like it was some pretty lazy film-making. (Imb1309: LOVED your rant! What is up with that pie scene?!?! Perhaps if AP was a better actress that would have meant something? But, it really seemed to me that was a filler scene and did nothing for me emotionally.) So, I ordered the first seven books through Amazon, read them in 7 days.. am hooked, hooked, hooked.
Does anyone have any theories as to why AB just didn't stick with the original material? Each book would have made a great season... bam that is 8 seasons right there and then they could have concentrated on little things like good acting, good make-up, etc. instead!
And, yea, I am rooting for Eric!
Welcome Kendal.
There are some theories on why AB 'departed' from the books - and some of these theories have been supported by comments that AB has made in the press. Other theories, are just the speculation of ourselves and others - like changing from Sookie's POV to a general omnipresent POV would allow for AB to show more of the 'world of the show' - which would be fine, except that AB has seemed to waste a lot of opportunities in that regard.
The theories that have been substantiated are the ones stating that AB wants to use the show as a way of showing an analogy between intolerance towards minorities and the way vamps are treated. Also the additional emphasis on the character of Jason, has been confirmed (in an AB interview) as being a result of the writers and others having serious 'man crushes on Jason and Lafayette' because the characters are 'so fun to write for'.
Other than those theories, it's anyone's guess why AB would depart from the richness that is the book series.
He has also stated that he sees "TB" as a romance - so he sounds like he's going to be building a case for Bill, one that a reading of the books will not support.
Someone offered this advice: "Treat the show like fan fiction." That's what I do, and I'm much happier for it.
I do agree with you that the show seems to suffer from sloppy or 'lazy film-making' - and lazy writing too. Perhaps the most glaringly obvious lack of attention comes from the rather haphazard way that the vamp make-up is applied. There are scenes where Eric's face is ghost white, and his neck, shoulders, and arms are his natural flesh color. The other mod (Laura, aka lmb1309) pointed out the bad wig for Eric in one scene, and the really bad make-up on AB and Bill in another - the list could make for its own thread, and maybe it will.![]()
I'm going to cross-post this in the thread "True Blood TV Discussions: It's an AB World..." - just so that it will be easier to find for referencing and responding.
Hi. My name is Michele and I'm from Arkansas. I stumbled across your forum a few days ago. I've been really amazed at the insight you all have about these books. It's really made me take another look at what I'm reading. I'm Team Eric, by the way![]()
Hi, I stumbled across this forum too and loved it (there are some very "odd" so called discussion boards on this subject). I'm Team Eric & have been since Book #2, or perhaps even from the end of Book #1. I'm looking forward to May for the next book, but I can't decide whether to watch the DVD of the series after reading the comments here and seeing clips on YouTube (where there are a couple of really good Eric/Sookie fanvids btw) - it looks like they've almost changed it beyond recognition (did they not read any of the other books?!?) - although watching Alexander Skarsgard might make it worthwhile - that was inspired casting, he seems to be perfect for the role, inspite of the efforts of the make-up team!
Hello all!
Pearle is my nom de guerre of choice for the internet and I just stumbled here today! Got hooked reading some interesting theories about Quinn. I am from Missouri and I love anything regarding vampires. After hearing about True Blood I decided to read the novels and was not disappointed. Can't say that about the show though. I then continued to get 6 other people where I work hooked on them (that number keeps growing). I have a "Sookie" lending library at my desk!
I'm all for Eric, especially when I picture him looking like Alex Skarsgard.....yummy! I watched Generation Kill just because he was in it....but ended up liking it for itself too, not just because of him.
It will be so nice to have some place to discuss the series!
Hello,
My name is Sam, and I hail from Toronto, Canada. I am an english major, just finishing up my undergrad, and preparing grad school applications, for of course English. Despite my heavy workload, I read all 8 of the "Sookies" in three days, ( which proves my obsession, and perhaps my insanity?). I have also read Charlaine's short stories, and of course I have watched True Blood ( I may or may not own a Fangtasia t-shirt). My allegiance is for Eric Northman, who I would not mind owing fealty to whatsoever.
I am looking forward to discussing anything and everything about the series, especially with other fans. The only people I know at the moment to discuss these topics with, have only watched the TV show, and only have eyes for Bill. It takes every ounce of my willpower not to tell them about the "real" Bill and shatter the facade.
Anywho, Hello!
Welcome, Sam, Pearle, and Frenchie (and anyone else who I may have missed who has posted but I haven't responded to - in which case, my bad).
I can't remember how much of the 'history' of this site has been posted - but this forum started as an outgrowth of PMs that Laura and I (Nancy) had on the TrueBlood Wiki site. We decided to set up a site that would be open to others because we thought that maybe others would also like a place to discuss the books in depth, and with a critical eye toward the plot and characters, and to further explore the rich world that CH has created (it was for these reasons, rather that us thinking that what we have to say is so gosh darn important that folks would want to drop by and read us).
The other, major, reason for setting up this site, is that there wasn't anywhere (that we could find - and believe me, we looked) where folks could discuss the books and the show, and be critical (not abusive, just critical in the best sense of the word) of the show.
Laura and I both took some heat on the Wiki and on other sites for just daring to cite bits from the books that supported anything other than a Pro-Bill and "Boy, that Sookie is really a Bimbo" - yes, we've seen more than a few discussions where the folks who claim to love the books/TrueBlood really have a hard time liking the main character - but that too is a subject for another thread.
Whenever someone says in their intro that they just burned through the reading of the books (which I think is pretty much the case with everyone on here - I think that only the actually aquiring of the books is the only thing that slowed anyone down), I always feel like I should reassure them that "You are among friends. You have found your 'own kind' so to speak."
I am also on Television Without Pity, and was quite dismayed when the thread in the TrueBlood forum to discuss the difference between the book and the show was "locked" - basicly it was closed. The reason given is that the moderator thought that too much talk of the books was spilling out to the other threads - I'm really not sure how that could be prevented, other than what they have done - told folks that there are other places on the web to discuss the books - yet at that time, there really wasn't.
Oh well, I'll turn the soapbox back over to someone else...
Hey guys- welcome.
Hope you enjoy.
Hi all. My name is Erika. I am 40, single, living in Melbourne, Fl and I have 25 years experience working in television and film production. I am total hooked on the Sookie Books, which I came to read after been hooked on True Blood. This is a big deal for me in that I am not a reader and for the first time in my life read all 8 books in two weeks. Ok it took one week to read the first one, then it was a marathon. I have even written some Fan Fics for our beloved characters, something else I have never done. Two of them are straight from the books just outside of Sookie's POV. I will be happy to send anybody the links. I am just thrilled to find this site, where people are really thinking and talking about what is happening in the books.
And yes, Eric has my heart.
Laura and Nancy, I wanted to let everyone know that the last bite podcast will interview Alexander Skarsgard on the 25 of this month. I don't know when it will be up for listening but they also have a couple of podcasts of Charlaine Harris.
feed://pammieftw.hipcast.com/rss/last_bite.xml
Thanks for the heads up.
And welcome!
Ello! I'm Rachel. I live in Tampa, Florida and I'm 24. I've adored the Stackhouse books for years and am so very excited to find this forum. I spent all of last night reading the posts you guys have already sent talking about each of the books.
I am delighted to find a place to actually debate characters motives and whatnot intelligently...or just obsessive predict upcoming plot turns. Of course after True Blood came out I had to read through them all again. I work in a lab and can listen to my ipod while I work so I downloaded the audiobooks and if you guys haven't listened to them read aloud, you most certainly should! It gives it another dimension and the woman(Johanna Parker) does an awesome southern accent for Sookie, IMHO. And believe me, hearing someone say "Yield to me," in a deep voice for Eric is tingle-worthy. Tehehe. Er.. okay sorry got sidetracked.
Anyhoo, not to sound like a militant devotee.. but I have thoroughly settled on Team Eric. I wouldn't even be giving any backwards glances at Bill by now if it weren't for Stephen Moyer. Sigh..
Hi all.
My name's Dawn. I'm 31, married, three kids. I live way up north in the Upper Peninsula of MI, where currently we're buried in snow. I became a fan of the TV series, and once I found out it was based on the books, I debated whether I should read them. I finally put the first two on my Christmas list, and I figured I could pick up the other ones if I thought they were any good. Luckily for me, my wonderful husband saw fit to get me the 7 book boxed set, then preceded to get extremely irritated by my 36 hour reading marathon where I flew through all 7 of them and then pounced on the computer to order the 8th. Actually, it was probably the week and a half after that initial 36 hours, when I went back and read them all again more slowly/carefully that really got on his nerves. He finally told me he got sick of looking at my face and seeing the name "Charlaine Harris" instead. I didn't have the heart to tell him that I was sick of looking at him and not seeing Eric's face instead. (hee, hee, hee) I'm really glad I found this forum, because I don't know anyone else who reads the books or watches the series.
In other aspects of my life, I work full time and am attending graduate school online to get my PharmD degree. In fact, Ithat is what I was supposed to be doing for the past four hours instead of reading these posts. Ugh. Anyway, nice to "meet" everyone, and I'm glad I'm not the only Sookiephile out there.
Hi Dawn -
I didn't have the heart to tell him that I was sick of looking at him and not seeing Eric's face instead.
LMBO!! Welcome. ![]()
Dawn,
Your story is almost verbatim to mine...watched the show first got the books for christmas from my husband then devoured them in like 5 days. I have been more than mildly obsessed with them and ERIC. I love this Forum and have enjoyed all of the posts. I agree with you telling your husband that you are sick of looking at him and not seeing Eric's face. That is a total HOOT!!! I totally concur. My husband thinks I'm nuts. Everytime he sees me with one of the books in my hand he just shakes his head and looks at me like I'm crazy. I told he should read them and learn a few things from Eric! LOL Nice to meet you on here!
Hi guys! So glad I found this place, it feels like home...
My name is Barbara, I'm 29 and I'm brazilian. I live in Rio de Janeiro, altough I have lived in the US and Paris for a little while.
I'm a lawyer, used to work with intellectual property but then swithed to tax law and last year a quit my job and stared fashion design school. I'm starting me second year of fashion school in a couple of weeks. I'm single, have lost my parents and I live and take care of my grandma (guess that's why Im liked Sookie on the first place, hit close to home).
I'm on vacation from school so after the new year I was bored as hell, sine I'm not working or going to classes, and I decided to download all 12 episodes of True Blood, since I've always like sci-fi, fantasy, horror and especially vampires. Buffy is still my favorite tv show off all time and I remeber being addicted to the little vampire books when I was 9 years old. Plus I really love the Twilight series.
Anyway, I saw the whole season of TB, loved it and went after the books. I have always been a book warm and I usually by the book before I see a show or movie that I'm interested because I know the book is always better. I only found the DUD, DTTW, DD and ATD on a bookstore here that works with imported books, so I read the first one in one sitting and wnet crazy.I found all the others online and proceded to read all 8 in 3 days without sleeping. I slept for 2 days afterwords and was majorly hooked. Since school doesn't start in 2 weeks I'm still rereading the books and the short stories, althought I can't find gift wrap online.
I still haven't met a brazilian fan of the series, but maybe that's because we don;t have the books in portuguese, only the first one I was told, so I'm convincing the friends I have that speak english to read them, but they still haven't. So thank you for providing a place for my addiction, hhahahaha.
TEAM ERIC ALL THE WAY!
Hello, everyone!
I'm Gena, and I've spent the last 2 days reading over the boards, loving that there are so many other thoughtful readers out there, and especially feeling all the Eric love!
I started reading the series a few months ago, then rented the audiobooks and blew through them! I listened at work (I work in a lab), listened while cooking, listened while running, etc etc! After going through them all twice, I'm actually reading the rest of them now, so I can pick up on all the things I missed and have the flexibility to re-read pages and flip back and forth.
I watched True Blood and really enjoyed it, although, as usual, the books are so much better! Although, I could look at SM and AS for a good long while....
Look forward to joining in the discussions with ya'll!
Hi everyone! I was so excited when I found this forum during lunch that I posted in an "Eric" thread before I read the rules about introducing myself. So sorry! I'm 45 years old, and I live in Indiana with my husband, kids, ages 18 and 15, and several cats. I work in marketing communications at a Big Ten university.
I am new to the Sookie Stackhouse series, but not to vampire/paranormal romance. A few years ago, my sister-in-law convinced me I needed to watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer, so I did. The rest is history. Not only did Buffy, and then Angel, capture the fascination of my entire family but it introduced me to a whole new world of romance to be explored. I've always been a romance reader, but had stuck with historical romance. After Buffy and Angel, I think one of the first "vampire" books I read was by Colleen Gleason, who has the Gardella Vampire Chronicles. The first book was advertised as "Jane Austen meets Buffy" -- with my love of historical romance (and all things Jane Austen) as well as Buffy, I thought this book had been written with me in mind! From there, I branched out to modern-day "paranormal" books (I was pleasantly surprised to find that there were so many!) and quickly found that I loved them.
I had heard about the TrueBlood series on HBO, but sadly, we don't get HBO. I didn't know much about the Sookie Stackhouse books, but I had heard of them and seen them in the bookstore. I must admit that my first impression of the book (before the TV series) was simply based on the book covers, which looked kind of quirky/campy to me -- and I was more interested in the darker, serious stories. I thought the Sookie books looked too lighthearted. Well, when the first book came out with a new cover to match the TrueBlood TV series, I decided to give it a try. I read the first book before Christmas and loved it! So much so that I asked for the other books in the series for Christmas. I received books 2,3, and 4 -- and am currently reading book 3. I am hooked! I must admit to confusion though as I was reading the second book -- at some point, I started hoping for Sookie and Eric to get together! By the end of book 2, I was completely aboard the Sookie/Eric train. And I am comforted by the fact there are many here who are Eric fans as well -- and that he sticks around for the many books that I have yet to read!
I look forward to coming here often!
Welcome.
The Gardella Vampire Chronicles are one of the (many) series that I plan to read - though right now if I deviate from reading the Anita Blake series, Rach and Laura (you'll soon figure out who they are) will come at me with heavy books with sharpened corners - just right for throwing.I'm kidding, of course, they'd never really do that, right guys?...
But seriously, we have a thread on other recommended books and series - it would be great if you'd post some on books/series that you've liked or just thought were 'meh'.
You'll also find that this is a very "Eric friendly" place - mostly, I think, because we delve into the books - rather than letting the TV show shape or establish for us hoe the characters are.
Hi
My name is Amy, I live in Portland, Oregon. I first heard of the Sookie Stackhouse novel from Trueblood. I did find the show very enjoyable to watch at first...now after reading the series...I find the books so much better. (Isn't that usually the case) And get a little annoyed with the show...just a little.
As far as relationship I prefer...I am rather torn...because I like both Sookie and Bill ...and Sookie and Eric. I see benefits for Sookie with both men. (or would that be vampires??) So I might end up being the devil advocate for both men....in these disscussions. ...however, I do always try to be respectful.
Take care

Hello All,
My name is Melissa and I've just joined this forum today. I'm glad to have found such an insightful group of people to share my thoughts the SS Series. I've read quite a few postings already so I'll try not to repeat any topics already discussed. I think the search feature will be helpful there.
Happy Reading!!!
Hello to all!
My name is Helena and like some of you here, I also got "hooked" on the books after I got the box set for Christmas. I loved Twilight and a close friend thought that I would enjoy this series as well. Talk about an understatement! I devoured the books and like everyone else here I'm counting down the days or the release of "Dead and Gone". Great to be a part of a group that is just as obsessed!
Hello to everyone! My name is Jenn! I heard about the books from an online friend a few months back and just finally got a chance to start reading them. I started the books before watching the television series (but I finished the series up quickly). I'm hooked as hooked can be!! ![]()
Currently re-reading the books and I've read them all accept the 8th (waiting for paperback release).
So far this forum seems great!! I'm glad to be here! ![]()
Jenn
Hello all. My name is Julie. This is my second forum, I am also a very active member of a parrot support group.
I am not much of an avid reader, but you would definately not know that by my recent activities. I read Twilight because a cousin left it at my house, and while I liked that series; I then found Sookie (and characters) to be much more my speed. I read all 8 books in just a couple days, and am now trying to find the short stories as well. I am definately team Eric, and find his character so addictive.
Hello Friends, just found this forum and was so happy to find other people caught up in the series, as I am. My name is Suzanne, 37, and I live outside of Buffalo. I am married and have a daughter. Team Eric, all the way.
Hi all -- I am an avid Sookie reader and I live in Belgium. I've been reading through this forum for a bit, but my paperback copy of From Dead to Worse has finally arrived this morning and I thought it was time to join. I burned through the first 7 books relatively recently and have been on pins and needles for FDTW to arrive in paperback. My will power has already dissolved, however, as I could not resist pre-ordering Dead and Gone in hardback.
I've really enjoyed the detailed level of discussion of the books here. I haven't been so hooked on a series in quite some time and it is great to see there are lot of others out there!
Hello Everyone! I've been reading the posts for awhile now, and decided to join. I really enjoy this series. In the last month I've read almost the entire series. I've really enjoyed reading the posts here. Especially the comments about the clothes. I haven't seen the show at all. I've decided to wait until after I'm up to date with the books.
blu510duck/Suzanne - I live outside of Buffalo too!
Hello everyone, my name is Fiona, and I gotta say, since finding this sight and reading the threads I can't seem to get any work done!!! It's been crazy fun reading all the comments, thank you all for making me laugh so much. I couldn't believe my luck when I stumbled onto this site & I love that I'm not the only obsessed fan out there. Plus I love the "english class" format.
Wow - hi guys. We've had quite a few people sign up since I last checked. Welcome all! Have fun.
We also have another fun little intro thread if you guys are interested (you do not have to) called: "Official Introduce Yourself Thread: What's your fave?" It's just a little bit more of getting to know you if you'd like to share.
M - looking forward to hearing your thoughts on FDTW. Is Dead & Gone going to be readily available for you - or will you wait until that comes out in paperback?
Fiona - 9 reads of SVM?? Wow. You must have a lot to share ![]()
laura, luckily Dead & Gone is available to me through amazon.de -- I've preordered for now and it looks like it will be here mid-May, which I think it around the same time it will hit the US. FDTW was a bit delayed but only by a week or so. I'm more sad to think of the indefinite time lag after Dead & Gone until 10 comes out! But I suppose that's getting ahead of myself.![]()
Witchygirl, I also haven't seen the show at all and am not likely to for some time.
Laura, yes 9 times! I'm too embarassed to tell people what I'm reading at this point because no one seems to get it! I have written stuff down but a lot has been covered.
I can barely contain myself knowing D&G is coming soon. Like M, I'm already dreading waiting for book 10.
I hope I'm in the right spot - I haven't used tangler forum types before - I'm used to forums and boards (phpBB and smf). Just signed up because I'm brimmed full of ideas about the books, and this forum keeps coming up on my google searches, and seems to focus on the books, rather than the fan fiction.
I prefer to be called by my screen name, rather than my real name, and I come from Brisbane, Australia. I got involved in reading the books due to "True Blood" on TV (watched the first episode and promptly bought the books) - I could only wait so long, and had to order the books from the US to finish the others.
I feel most sorry for those who have been reading them for years - the suspense must have killed you (as it certainly would have killed me). I can barely wait for book 9 - so exciting, and I'm waiting for the Eric/Sookie discussion with much trepidation and speculation.![]()
Hi everyone, I've just stumbled into this forum and was definitely fascinated by some of the analysis that have gone into some of the posts, so I decided to sign up and join in the fun.
My name is Ronelle and I'm from New Jersey. I discovered the SVM series after I got intrigued by all the marketing hype HBO put out last year for "True Blood". I thought: let me read the book that this show is based on before I watch it; it'll give me a better perspective for comparison when I do. But after I read DUD, the series got me hooked all on its own. I have all 8 books in both print and audio book forms and I'm currently going through my third rotation through the series in preparation for DAG (which I have also pre-ordered in both formats). I'm also waiting for the "True Blood" DVD to come out in May.
Hi everyone. I just found this forum today and was so excited. It's nice to find a forum of intelligent, funny, smart people who actually like to read!
I am a stay at home mom and an actress. I work with a small repertory company in New England. I love to read, especially series. That's how I found the Sookie books. After I read them I found out about True Blood - now I am hooked on both the books and the series. I have read the books through about 3 times and look forward to buying True Blood once it's out on DVD.
Did anyone see the site to vote for your favorite book vampire?
The only CH vampire listed is Bill - I know you all love Eric, but voting might still show support for CH.
Thanks Witchy.
I actually had to go with Jean-Claude when I saw he was up there!
Heather - if you go here check out who is 1st..... IVY!?!
Hi, I'm Heather, 25, engaged, and completely obsessed with this series! I started watching True Blood when the first season started on HBO. I loved the series and my fiancee' bought me the books for Christmas. I read the first 7 in 5 days and there was no turning back. I anxiously awaited #9 for 5 months and was lucky to get it yesterday (1 day early) because Walmart stocked it early. Yay for me! I started it last night and lack about 100 pages to finish. I can't wait for work to be over today!
Hi all,
I'm Janice and in my search to find out more about the Southern Vampire novels I stumbled upon this forum. I read through some of the posts on this site and have found that the analysis of the books are incredible and insightful and I found myself needing to join. I got so excited I posted before I introduced myself, oops....
I just graduated from college and now am on my way to apply for medical school. I came about reading the Sookie series, like many others, through the hype built up from the HBO show True Blood. And I must say that once I started reading I couldn't stop. I barrelled though the first 7 in a week, reading one a day. A few weeks after the 8th book came out. And then I excruciatingly waited a year for the 9th one and now am going to have to wait some more for the next. The anticipation and speculation for the story to continue is nagging and i'm so glad to have found this place
.
Charlaine Harris is going to be at DragonCon in Atlanta, Labor Day weekend.
Anyone else going?
Welcome Janice, Heather, Thespi & Ronelle! Enjoy.
Harley - I wish I was ![]()
Im making my husband drive me all the way from Kentucky to Atlanta for it. Im so excited. Lots of big names are gonna be there. Ill have to take so many pictures. ![]()
Hi everyone! I've been lurking for a week or so now, and I finally decided it was time to introduce myself.
All i can say really, is that i love the Sookie Stackhouse Series (though thats quite obvious), I love blue eyed vikings, and I greatly look forward to meeting you all and delving deep into future discussions. . . .
It's a pleasure to officially join you all on here! I'm excited.
Sorry about above, pressed the wrong key on the keyboard. Apologies for not introducing myself earlier. Been lurking a while before launching myself headlong into the 'Eric's hair' debate. I am formerly from England but now live in New Zealand. Discovered vamp fiction via Twilight then saw an episode of True Blood two months ago and became hooked on the books after I read DUD. The books come to NZ via the USA so I am still waiting for D&G so I'm reading all the posts to keep me up to speed. I'm so happy to have found this site and share views with like-minded Eric obsessives.
OOOOH....I may just get to go to Dragon Con too.....I live in KY and it's justa 6 hour drive so I am going to try to go for sure!!! Thanks for the info harley!!
Yeah, I used to live in Atlanta, so the drive to and from Kentucky is nothing for me, as far as that goes.
Hey guys,
My name is Galit I am from Israel - 36 years old married with 2 children.
I started to read the books after watching True Blood season 1.
Well like every on else my favorite is Eric with no doubt (how can you not love some one who calls you Lover?).
I read DAG twice already, I am very confused with this book and I hope that the next book will be more with Eric situation.
I love this forum you guys help me a lot with my confusion.
Sorry for my bad English.
Thank you, Galit
I think your English is very good. I hope it's ok to reply to these posts. It's great to know that fans of these books and Eric in particular are all over the world.
Hello DiB,
Thank you.
Hey guys,
My name is Ellie - I am from Ireland. I only discovered the books this year and very quickly read/devoured them all.
I love this forum. I have been reading it for a few weeks now and I love your insight and views! Being from Ireland I relate to the fairies
and living in Dublin, a settlement founded by vikings, places me firmly on team Eric! ![]()
Thanks
Ellie
Hello everyone! I love Sookie Stackhouse series! I'm so happy I found this forum since non of my friends/people I know have read the books. I bought the entire book set last Friday and I finished reading Dead and Gone last night! Yes - I know a little too addicted
By the way - my name's Kat. I am really looking forward into reading the next book! Oh and I'm on team Eric too![]()
Welcome guys. Have fun.
Did anyone see the site to vote for your favorite book vampire?
The only CH vampire listed is Bill - I know you all love Eric, but voting might still show support for CH.
Darn...missed the poll...I guess I haven't been on in awhile![]()
It would've been Henry Fitzroy for me!
But wait! There's another poll now...your favourite shifter...I sent some love to Nathaniel...only other shifter character I know of is Sam of course.
Hello Friends!
My name is Brittany, I’m 28, a Clinical Pharmacist and live in Dallas, Tx. I’m sublimely married (to a very understanding guy that doesn’t mind my reading, re-reading and discussing ad nauseum books about vamps in La, tee hee), no kiddos yet, but we do have two very cute little puppins.
I discovered the SVMs after finding out that True Blood was based off the series; I promptly went out and bought all 8 (at the time) books and devoured them within days – I’ve even gotten two of my friends hooked.
Like most everyone else here, I love me some Eric…and some AS. I’m just extra lucky that my husband is also 6+ feet tall, blonde haired, blue eyed and Scandinavian…I wonder if he’d think something amiss if I asked him to grow his hair out and don Viking garb. ;)
I’m so happy this forum exists…I’ve been reading through all the threads for days (during work, shhhh!) and wanted to introduce myself. Y’all seem like a very intelligent bunch!
Oh BMJ. How lucky are you! You have your very own Eric!
Hello Fellow Addicts
I’ve just realized I hadn’t introduced myself yet. My name is Ngan, 24 years old from New Zealand. I work in the art & 3D/CGI industry.
I watched a few episodes of True Blood then decided to read the books before I continued. Initially I didn’t understand what all the fuss was about Eric. On the show, he was creepy & I didn’t think he was as good looking as everybody else seemed to think. After reading LDID, I got it. All of a sudden TV Eric seemed a lot more attractive. It’s the characters you fall for right, not the actors. I’m definately on Team Eric.
I discovered this forum on Google. This is so much better than the CH forum or other fan forums. With the time difference, I’m always late into the discussion. By the time I wake up, all theories have already been hashed. But they’re always entertaining & are very good reads ![]()

I agree almost 100%... I thought AS's Eric was sexy in a very scary way... And then I read the books and he was hot in a whole new way.
ALL NEW POSTERS! Welcome!! Please read the rules & thank you!
I know there are many threads so to read through now which would take quite a while & everyone is excited to post about Dead & Gone. However - at least before you post in the numerous D&G threads....PLEASE read them through from the top!
Many thanks - your appreciative Mod. ![]()
I don't know how to use this forum. I have to stop pressing enter. I haven't read the books yet. I started watching TB just last week (I'm on EP4) and I loved it!!! So I thought I should probably read the books. Let me just say I LOVE Bill on TB however last night I found out that Bill is not all that in the CH world. So I'm really sad that Sookie and Bill are not meant to be. ANyway I look forward to joining the discussion here.
Hi Sukeh & welcome. Just an FYI, if you look over to the left of the message you are typing in (to the left of the send button) make sure you click off the grey "chat mode" - you want to be in "post mode". That will solve sending a message everytime you hit enter.
I recently did the same!
Just so you know - this site is NOT a spoiler free zone. This site was set up by us Mod's to discuss the books in great detail. So every thread has spoilers & I don't know which book you are on, but you might want to wait until you have read all 9 before you start reading the threads so all of CH's twists & turns are not ruined for you.
Enjoy - Laura
Hi all--
My name is Caporali... I too have posted a couple of times w/o introducing myself... Sorry!
I live in the US and I'm a college prof. I'm not a native English speaker, though, so don't be surprised if my English sounds funny. I've lived in the States for some 21 years, but I still make mistakes.![]()
I've been lurking on this forum for quite a long time (I forget for how long!). I found it through Google as well, and I love it. It has such wonderful analyses of the books and the characters, it's just delightful to read. I'm very grateful I found it.
I found out about the Sookieverse last year, on LiveJournal. I subscribe to a bunch of vampire-related journals & communities (I'm a huge Buffy/Spike fan), so when they started talking about True Blood, I got interested. I read all the Sookie books & short stories that were available last summer, before the show began. I fell in love with Eric by the end of Book 1. I was very much looking forward to the show, so I was bitterly disappointed when it actually aired. I used to stay up till crazy hours at night, looking for someone to post the new episodes online (I don'y have HBO), but I'm not going to do that this summer... I have super-low expectations.![]()
PS - If anybody's on LJ, I have a journal that is almost exclusively dedicated to Eric -- it's in my name (caporali) and it's called "The Daily Northman." I pretty much only post fanart and videos that I find around the internet -- nothing really major.
OK, I think this is pretty much it!
Once again, thank you so much for this wonderful forum!
Caporali - welcome! I am a huge Buffy/Spike fan myself.
Enjoy ![]()
Yay!!! Spuffy rules!![]()
Hi everyone!!
Of course i am a big fan of SS novels (or else i wouldn't be here!!) XDD
Loved all the insights for book 9. I was sooo shocked i really thought it foretold Erics death...... However like a good kid i read ALL your posts and now i can finaly sleep well at night!! laughs
So i hope with my staying here to find some peace and p a t i e n c e to deal with the long wait for the next book (not meaning the short stories)!!
Thanks for this great forum!! XDD
HI Erina - welcome! Enjoy & glad to be of service. I think we're all pretty much in the same boat. Always anxiously awaiting & trying to give each other a bit of peace of mind.
FYI for any Eric lovers that don't already know, he's in the running on this weeks bitten by books poll.
I just voted and he's currently leading by a wide margin (43% to 26% for the closest contender). Yay, Eric!
Oh god I have to admit that was a hard one for me but of course I voted for Eric. But I really love Jean Claude & Vishous too!
Okay... color me retarded but how do you vote?
Scroll down to the Mid right side of the page & click on the little dot & then hit vote beneath the list of name.
I had a friend who couldn't vote too. She could only see the results. And it was while the poll was still open.
Witchy... if you removed a crack about me being retarded, I am going to be very disappointed....
So I finally figured it out... I was in the wrong place... I voted for some hot Eric Action. Thanks for the heads up witchygirl....
Hi y'all! My name's Darlene. Long-time lurker here. I've read almost all the topics posted and I must say I LOVE this forum! I discovered Sookie after hearing about TrueBlood and, having totally obsessed over the Twilight universe for months, gave in and bought DUD. Well, let me tell you...I should've just bought them all then and there. I have been hooked since day one. I am enthralled with vampires...especially Sookie's. ![]()
I am a hard-core Eric fan....I love AS for the show and hope ***crosses fingers, makes a wish, etc*** that we get to see some book-friendly Eric/Sookie action on TrueBlood S2. I read the entire series twice before I finally went out and bought Season 1...and I ordered HBO the day of S2 Premier. Am I obsessed? just a little...lol![]()
Hi Everyone, I'm new here...OMG!! I Just read Darlene's thread and I could have written it myself. I became obsessed with Twilight (Edward) and then I reluctantly watched True Blood season 1 on DVD last month.. It didn't really hold my interest at first since I found the character of Bill kind of creepy (sorry Bill fans). I bought the books out of curiosity and when I realized Eric was a major player and got to know his character through the books I became obsessed.. It's good bye Edward..HELLO ERIC..He truly is the ultimate Vampire..I didn't realize i had such a thing for Vampires..But, apparently it's a weakess I have.. This character is like no other I have ever read about.. I LOVE Alexander skarsgard's portrayal of him..Since I saw him on True Blood before I started reading the booksd he was in my mind the whole time I read the character in the books..so he made it easy to imagine how seductive Eric really could be.. I just hope Alan Ball truly gets what it is that makes the series so captavating..It's the dynamic of Eric and Sookie.. Plain and simple.. In my opinion anyway.. When he calls her "My Lover" it's just pure magic.. deep sigh... I also hope CH gives her fans what she has been leading up to all of these years and that is for Eric and Sookie to finally surrender to their strong love for one another.. I'm looking forward to this season of True blood.but, I get so frustrated when I see good Eric & Sookie opportunities go by..I can't believe how much time I spend thinking about these characters.. but, i'm hooked.. ![]()
Welcome Darlene & Yikes. Yahoo. Yum. (love your handle)! As you can see there are lots of Eric lovers here. Don't know how it turned out that way but it just did. Or maybe there are just more Eric fans? Not sure but anyhoo - you are in great company.
I just ask - if you haven't already to read the forum rules thread. Thanks so much & look forward to having your input! - Laura ![]()
Hey guys! My name is Ashley and I, too, am obsessed with Eric the vampire. I started reading the series sometime last month and finish the books 1-9 in 9 days (a book a day!). I have actually been reading this forum for a few weeks now and I love some of the theories you guys have come up with and the fact that some of them have been correct! Good Job
!!
-Ash
Welcome Ashley!
Hello. My name is Judy and I love the SVM series. I listened to the audio books instead of reading so I can have my hands free to chase my toddler around. I've been lurking around after finishing the last book and love the comments and theories ppl have on here. I'm so glad that HBO decided to give us True Blood along with AS. He is one beautiful man!
It is funny what you can pick up on in the audio that you would miss in reading...
Hi! My name is Cat. I just found out about TB and the Sookie collection last week and am now obsessed. I read the whole collection over the July 4th four day weekend, my husband thinks I am crazy (I'm sure if Megan Fox had a series of books written after her he would have done the same)... but he created this by making me watch Generation Kill with him. I'm super excited about finding people who love the show, books, and of course AS as much as I do.
Hi everyone,
My name is Jamie and I adore the sookie series. I found out about the books at the start of the year from a work friend who also told me about True Blood. I watched the first episode of True Blood before I had started the books and I have to say the the starting credits made me question my friend's belief that I would like the show and books. But of course I read the books and fell in love with them, staying up all hours just to finish them! I have read through most of the threads and the thoughts and discussions have opened my mind up even more so! I look forward to posting and chatting with you all!!
-Jamie
Hey y'all--
I'm Melanie from Tyler, Texas...I work for a large cable company so I got the skinny early on about Trueblood. My daughter has actually read the Harris books and she highly recommended them. I didn't have time to get past the first one before the HBO series started and I soon decided to let the books rest while I just let TB unfold. As I was telling someone earlier--the suspense is so much more delicious when I can't see whats round the corner...
Now I'm not trying to dangle a carrot I can't deliver BUT...the HBO rep hooked me up (since I am the #1 raving fan of TB) with some cool stuff like t=shirts, caps, and little notebooks with TB on them. I have a couple of multiples that I may put out there...T minus 9 hours 47 mins to TB!!
Hello Judy, Cat, Jamie & Melanie. Welcome & enjoy!
Melanie - please note this site is full of spoilers so read threads at risk!
Hello. My name is Lauren. I am 28, unmarried and one dog. I watched the true blood series last fall and really enjoyed it. During the season 2 4th of july break I grew restless waiting for the next episode so I googled the show and found out it's based on a series of books. I bought the first couple and read the entire series in three days. I love the books! I'm glad I watched the show first so I'm not that disappointed when I watch it, but the books are much better. I enjoy reading everyone's posts and I'm glad I'm not the only one who can't seem to get enough of sookie stackhouse!
hey!
I'm new to the whole Sookie-verse but i'm loving the series and the show. I read DuD in February but didnt think much of it, I wasnt a big fan of Bill, he was just too broody and dark to be interesting. And Eric and the obscene flower part was just bizarre, so I didnt have much faith in where the series was going. But then a friend and I gave ourselves the challenge of watching TrueBlood season 1this summer which we tore through in like a week. I enjoyed it but didnt think any further of reading the books. However, since season 2 started and I heard that they were downplaying the Eric-Sookie relationship this season, I got curious thinking "What relationship?!" finally the clincher was episode 2x4 which just was written so brilliantly, and had so many good lines that somewhere between looking up who wrote the episode and all this wondering, I borrowed the entire series of books from a friend, and finished them voraciously fast.
Been reading a bunch of posts and enjoying the discussions and analysis.Looking forward to adding to the discussion, and waiting 4 more years for Sookie to decide who is the "One".
"waiting 4 more years for Sookie to decide who is the "One"."
I'm pretty sure that's Harris' plan. It will be like "Survivor-Sookie Stackhouse Edition"- the last fan standing gets to find out who Sookie ends up with.
Agreed.... But I wonder if that will be the case.. She may not have shored up her love life by the next book, but I hope that CH realizes that drawing it out would be torture.. Of course I don't think she would tell us one way or the other. She may be with the ONE now, but it may be a rocky road, hence no resolution.
I just hope that she's done introducing new love interests for Sookie. It's time for her to choose out of the existing pool of candidates. I think I'd give up on the books if she brought a new guy into the mix.
The Sookie series is the first series I've read that's ongoing. I probably won't do that again. I hate having to wait for the next book to find out what comes next. Sorry, patience is not one of my virtues when it comes to a good story. I was both delighted and dismayed when I read that CH has signed on for 4 more books. Delighted that there's more to read about the characters I've come to love and dismayed that the wait will continue. BTW, my name is Jen. I started out reading the Twilight saga and was hooked on book vamps when my coworkers got me into the Sookie series. I read all nine in about a week. I'm rereading them again...more slowly so as to really enjoy them. All the various threads I've read here have been enlightening. You guys are really good in some of the speculations.
Welcome to the forum Jen! I have to say I also have mixed feelings about CH signing on for 4 more books but maybe for different reasons. I've really enjoyed them and I love the characters but at times I felt like she was stretching the series out so 4 more books? Yikes, as much as I would hate to see the story come to an end, I don't want to see a bunch of filler either.
Jen, I'm with you. I've read all of the posts in the CH Q&A forum and listened to some of her interviews and despite her protestations to the contrary, she sometimes seems a bit mercurial and "high-handed" to me. I think the SVM series was setting up nicely to resolve in DAG and just didn't. It would be a shame to ruin a great reading experience by artificially dragging out the story to pad Ms. Harris's pockets. Surely she's got other good universes in her to write about (she's too good of a writer not to have more great ideas up her sleeves). ![]()
IMO, if she's true to her characters and her world, she'll wrap up the romance in the next couple of books and then spend the last two resolving some of the larger conflicts in the Sookieverse regarding the status of supes and humans together in the world. She still has plently of fodder left in examining how Sookie will navigate both the human and supe worlds, how her telephathy will continue to develop, her relationship to Hunter, Jason's saga, resultion of the vampire power struggles, how to manage being a mortal in love with an immortal (assuming that's how it goes), etc. The love interest has never been the only plot line of interest in the books. That's why I like them so much more than, as I call them, The Teenage Vampire Love Story Series (a/k/a Twilight). Heck, even Meyer put the two teenaged vamps together for a good war for one book. Can't Sook (and Eric
) solve mysteries side by side for a while. And more Quinn? Really? I hate cats. I'm allergic.![]()
I know I'm ranting and I'm new so I shouldn't. Its rude. My But I have truly enjoyed these books because they are character and plot driven, and honest (mostly) in keeping the story moving forward toward some end. I'll be fairly hacked off if that veers off into some never never land of just selling more books.
Nice to meet y'all.
Amy

Girl... you came out like a lion... That is awesome speculation and I hope like hell you are right.
Me too.
Sorry for the typos. I'm still getting used to the software. Between BUT and MY in the last paragraph was supposed to be this: MY GRAN told me this "Its better to have strangers believe you're sweet than know you're sour." I'm not sour, just invested in this story.
Somehow I deleted it. Not sure how.
I didn't find your words sour at all, just honest, so don't even worry about it! ![]()
"Its better to have strangers believe you're sweet than know you're sour."
To true... and something to remember when I meet new people.. I love it...
If you have a chance to read back through anything that I have said, you will see some serious rants.. I mean high handed bitching... so anything that you just said was light weight.. and no even close to sour.
Why thank you very much. On that note, I"m off to meet some girlfriends for cocktails before Harry Potter.
Thanks for the welcome Valhalla. I agree with you on no more filler crap...especially on introducing more potential Sookie suitors. Hopefully the last four books are as MortuusAmo puts it she'll wrap up the romance in the next couple of books and then spend the last two resolving some of the larger conflicts in the Sookieverse regarding the status of supes and humans together in the world. I currently only own DAG because I couldn't get my hands on one to borrow fast enough so I bought it instead. I was thinking about purchasing the 8 book pack that's coming out in Sept. but now that I know there will be 4 more books, I'm not sure if I should. What if the last 4 stinks? But then again, the first few were really good so I might as well...
Hola Lauren, Amy, Jen & Rogue girl & welcome.
Amy - nice post. You nailed it & I agree with your sentiments. I hope your right about her wrapping up the romance & resolving the larger issues. One can dream huh?
The love interest has never been the only plot line of interest in the books. That's why I like them so much more than, as I call them, The Teenage Vampire Love Story Series (a/k/a Twilight). Heck, even Meyer put the two teenaged vamps together for a good war for one book. Can't Sook (and Eric

Can I hear an Amen?
And more Quinn? Really? I hate cats. I'm allergic.![]()
LQTM.... Classic
.
Eric and Sookie solving mysteries side by side AMEN!
AMEN Laura!
From your lips to God's ears about Quinn! I don't ever need to see that boy again. Be gone Quinn! Shoo!
Be gone Quinn! Shoo!
Haha!
On a totally unrelated note, I was just looking at the guest list for Dragon Con and I knew that Charlaine Harris would be there this year but so will Richelle Mead and Sherrilyn Kenyon. I haven't ever gone to Dragon Con before but it sounds like a lot of fun. Any of you ever been? I definitely need to get my arse up and around to see the parade this year. I hear it's pretty wild.
A few of us were going to go but my plans have been changed due to an unexpected sudden move across the pond mid-sept.
I really REALLY wanted to meet Richelle Mead.
Are you moving to England, Laura?
Yes I am - London. My hubby is English & the majority of of business is there so we are moving there for 2 years (at least).
Wow - Laura, that's exciting!
I'm headed to Dragon Con myself. I'm betting Mead and CH are on the same panel, so I'll certainly be at that one. Mead will be at a book signing a few days before - 9/2 or 9/3 or something in Gwinette or Alpharetta I think. If you don't have tickets to the Con and want to see her, you could head there . . .
Hello! Just joined. I started the books because of true blood, planning to read just the first one, and start the second after season two. Read them all in two weeks
. Cannot wait for the next one. Ohh and Eric is the best!
Laura, I'm so jealous! I'd love to live abroad for a while...I'll bet your hubby is glad to be going home for a bit![]()
hi! im new lol. i started reading the sookie books after i finished the twilight series for something similar to read and i found myself completely addicted to sookieverse! dont hate me but i cant choose between eric and bill. im really enjoying true blood too and cant wait to see where they go with that![]()
Yeah Brittany it should be cool. He's actually not that psyched to be going back b'c he loooves the climate over here. Even when it's bitter cold - he apprecites that there is sun even when there is snow. He loves the 4 seasons etc... so we'll be back for sure. Now that he has had a taste for it over here for a good while, he seems to prefer it. I'm actually pretty interested to see how my reaction is going to be - as in, will I prefer it over there!?
I'm sure there are things you're going to love, but things you'll miss from home
I dated an English guy in college and went to spend Christmas with him and his family one year...he told me about the bone chilling, damp cold...I didn't quite understand what he meant (me being from Texas and all), I had to buy a new coat over there two days in
...ah, I SO miss the accent
Tis the season to pack up and move.
Oh god the damp is awful!! I can't handle it. His whole family think I am a wimp but I don't care. They'll go for walks in the countryside when it's pissing with rain. I wait in the car or send them off without me!
Hahaha! Where abouts is your hubby from?
London mainly although he's lived in the country too, on a working farm for a while - down in Sussex & WIltshire & a couple of other places. His family are pretty eccentric & were like gypsy's his entire life & that has transitioned into his adult life as well - they moved constantly. So we kind of do too although every time...I think "this is it!" & it's so not.
Since we've been married (8 years) we have moved around 19 times...between all the places in London, NYC & CT. This will be the longest we've ever been in London though. We're run a small property developement company so a lot of times we would move into our finished product until it sold.
Bloody hell woman! You must be a master at packing![]()
I'm not bad. I think I could be better but at this rate - I start to fizzle out at the end. It's starts off well organized & quick but than I get too tired & lazy & give up! BUT...at least now we get people to help us move!! We used to do it all ourselves...EVERY. TIME.! I had to break my husband I which took a few years.
His parents have war-time baby mentality so they do anything to save a buck & recycle & keep things no matter if it's broken. And believe me - I am not talking a chip here or there. I am talking a sofa that has been around for 30 years which is soiled & has the stuffing coming out of it. And there is no need!! It's actually a little on the crazy side. They have the money not to do that...but...war time babies.
When I came on the scene - it was a steep learning curve! If you could have seen the stuff I got rid of that was "given" to him. I was astounded he was as successful as he was b'c it looked like he raided an Oxfam (Salvation Army) who in turn got their furniture from an old folks home. He called me "ruthless" & "unsentimental". It was hilarious!
You have no idea how long it took me to get him & his family to rip wrapping paper off a gift. They always tried to save it to re-use. Honestly - my husband was so tight when I met him his friends called him "Budget Baxter". They are amazed at the turn around. I'm telling you ...steep, steep learning curve!
Congratulations on beating the curve! I have an 8ft couch from the 70s myself, inherited from Matt's grandmother...he loves to nap on it (cause his feet don't hang off the end, hahaha) and refuses to get rid of it *sigh* I've learned to love slip covers![]()
hello!
I'm Z. I'm 18, and completely obsessed with everything by Charlaine Harris, especially the Sookie books. I'm on team Eric by the way. I was on Quinn's side for a while until his sister and mommy came along. I heard about this forum from a friend, and here I am.
Hey everyone. This is the second step of my introduction to this forum. I'm so impressed by everything I have read here so far. You all seem like such intelligent, funny and deep thinking women...and you have great taste in fiction! ;)
I'm Amber. I'm from Vancouver, BC, Canada (where Twilight series is being filmed...argh). I started reading the Sookie Stackhouse Novels when a good friend of mine from work told me it would "change my life". I figured she was exaggerating, but since she loved them sooo incredibly much (and threatened to cease speaking to me until I had read at least the first three), I went ahead and bought the box set. Mind you, this comes after having watched both seasons of True Blood, so I already had a bit of a taste of all of the wonderful characters and story. I was soooo surprised when I started reading the books at how invested I became in the characters and how absolutely addicted I was to the story. I found myself reading on the bus, on my breaks at work, canceling dates with friends so I could read by myself at home, and I even called in sick to work one day to finish the last two!!! It's a terrible thing to do, but I was completely engrossed and needed a "me" day. I really got hooked from the third book onward when things changed so abruptly and Bill betrayed Sookie with Lorena. From there on in I knew that this whole story was going to be an interesting, twisted, exciting one and I wanted to know everything! I found myself particularly drawn to Eric (of course!) and his relationship with Sookie because I tend to personally be attracted to good men with a hard outer shell...and that was the impression I had of Eric. From the very beginning I've been cheering for him and Sookie. I found myself waiting, almost in a frustrated way, for scenes with Eric and Sookie in the book. That's why I picked the name EricFeind for myself, because I literally felt like a bit of an addict just waiting for my fix!!! Ha! I'm trying to force all of my closest girlfriends to read the books too and join the obsessed bandwagon with me. I just got a lot of the series, mostly because I relate sooo much to Sookie's character. And I'm not reaching in order to find similarities with her either. I personally experienced the betrayal of indefility by my first lover (we married when I was 19) and have never fully recovered, in the sense that you kind of get a harder edge to you no matter how soft, innoccent and "good" you are when you start off in the romance department. So, I love Sookie for knowing what that feels like and for being a bit screwed up and not sure who to trust! Anyway...looong intro...but I have time on my hands right now and I'm just really happy to be a part of this great forum.
Thanks for reading. Have a good night!
i did the same thing with the books.. i stayed up all night/morning and went to work with like 1hr of sleep because i got so addicted to reading the books.. i finished all 7 in like 4 days.. every waking moment was with those books<333
Hey Amber - Welcome! I loved reading your intro post. I did the exact same thing.....calling plans/dates with people & staying home alone to read (OK not so alone but polarizing my husband enough that it felt like it)! I also love a good man with a hard shell....yum.
This is for all of the new and existing posters who may have an agenda that they are pursuing or a bone to pick with the tone and topics discussed of this forum.
The discussions on this site are intended to be an in-depth, book club style look at the Sookie Stackhouse Series and the Sookieverse in general. Many of the posters here have a personal favorite for who Sookie will end up with and it may be contrary to some of the potential new poster's (and some of the existing poster's) ideas of where this book series is going and what the results of the overall arc of the story will be.
By the nature of the in-depth look at what has transpired there is going to be some speculation as to what the future holds and we reserve the right to speculate with the understanding that we may be wrong and will accept it with as much grace as we can manage if we are. Along with a desire for there to be no sore losers, I request that if someone turns out to be right, that they be gracious in turn...
Think about Bill and Eric.... The end has yet to been determined, but they have moved past some of their personal feelings and have begrudgingly seen the other's good intentions and good qualities and have joined forces (however reluctantly) to keep Sookie safe..
This is not the shirts verses the skins... This is not the sharks verses the jets... I am not going to say Bill lovers beware but I am going to say that there are several discussion forums for the Sookie Stackhouse series and each of them has a preference. If you do not like the tone of this site or you feel like the posters here have an unreasonable or unrealistic perspective on CH and the Sookie Stackhouse series, be adult and stick with the forums that discuss the way that you want to discuss.
I do not go shopping around on other forums for people piss off with my take on the series. I have read other forums and have agreed or disagreed with some of the stuff that I have read, but I have not jumped in with both feet and started jerking chains because honestly, I do not care... I was not a poster on any chat site prior to joining this one, because much like the first time with other things, I was a little shy and a little uncertain but because I loved it, it had to be done.... I loved the discussion and the break down... I loved the in depth look at the world that is the Sookie Stackhouse series... I have out and out disagreed with some of my favorite posters, but it did not leave a bad taste in my mouth or leave me with anything other than respect for their point of view (even if I did not agree).
If you want to post here and you have an agenda, use cannon from the series or facts that have been presented by CH. Like anything written, they are all open for interpretation and if you use thoughtful and concise language that is not inflammatory, patronizing or accusatory then you might find that you can enjoy the discourse...
If you choose to ignore decorum, be advised. I do not encourage the other posters to respond in kind and urge that everyone do more than try to play nice, but they are free to respond and in general, are very well versed on the series. Be prepared to have a better argument than the ones that have been presented already.
Thanks Caro, I second this.
It does seem to be about that time to post something like this just for the record, to have it out there.
Well said, Caroline. I have to say, I left another forum because I so enjoy the adult discussion and sheer camaraderie of this one. Educated opinions rock.
Thanks for clarifying this. I hope I haven't errored in this way so far! I just joined because after reading the books I sooo needed people to talk to about them. I've only read them once so I've learned a lot more about them just from reading through the threads here. I'm blown away at how in-depth and intelligent the discussion is and am getting so much out of it. My views on certain things have already been swayed, but in a positive way, as I realized there were things I was missing or forgetting, having only read the books through once. I'm starting again so I can really know my stuff. This is a great forum with a very respectful group of followers. I'm grateful to be a part of it!
(and just for the record...I LOVE that the majority of us are cheering for the Viking!). My sass ends there. ![]()
So I was listening to NPR this morning and there was a news story about how the FCC is going to start working on legislation to regulate blogging.
The gist of it was that marketing companies are paying bloggers to plug their products in blogs or postings. The FCC wants to be able to make these creepy bloggers responsible for content of the blog and subsequently liable for misinformation conveyed in said blog. In layman's terms, If you are posting sites or information for marketing purposes and it is a pay site and you don't tell people that it is a pay site, then you are liable. If you are posting that a product that you tried works and it doesn't then you are liable.
Well this got me to thinking (I know, scary) about how this site will get posters who are advertising for a product or a site and I thought, "Hey, now is a good a time as any to post something!"
If you are pushing a product or posting and advertisement, Don't. You may not be liable yet, but the day is coming where you will be. I will be following the FCC's progress on this and when the word comes down, the mods here will make sure that you are held responsible if you are posting without regard to this request.
Along these lines, If you have a website that gives free access to copyrighted material please do not post a web address. It is good to share, but you may be held responsible for violating copyright laws.
PMing is good. Use PM for anything that might be deemed dubious. Please use your discretion. Thank you!
Hey Guys BTW - even though I think Bitten By Books leans heavily toward their same old, same old favorites a lot - Charlaine Harris (as well as Kim Harrison which surprises me esp. b'c her last books wasn't as well recieved) have moved into the Top 2 spots in the final round of Favorite Paranormal Author of 2009.
AND Eric won for #1 Sexiest Male Vampire in Literature.
Heeeeyy...do we have good taste or what!?
AND Eric won for #1 Sexiest Male Vampire in Literature.
Heeeeyy...do we have good taste or what!?
YAY! I am jumping for joy right now![]()
Hi everyone i am new to your site and i am enjoying all topics. I have read the nine Sookie books but not the short stories yet.I also think we have good taste in books and vampires
Hi all! I'm a 47 year old mom to two wonderful teens. I started reading this series and loved it and am almost done with the second reading. I'm glad to have found such an entertaining forum discussing some of my most favorite books. I've read through several threads and am looking forward to reading the rest. Lots of great ideas!
I just got ATOD today and will read that before I continue reading FDTW and DAG.
I bought the first season of TB but am afraid to watch it. I'm afraid I'll not like it much after reading the books, especially if they mess up Eric's character. I don't have HBO so can't watch the episodes as they come out. I'll probably put off reading threads related to TB until I watch the corresponding episodes.
Thanks to the forum Mods for keeping things civil and on track!! You rock!!![]()
Welcome Kezz & Sylvia. Looking forward to your input. Enjoy!
Hi my name is Mia. I live in Pennyslvania now and have since 96'. I have also live in Colorado, California, Delaware and Alabama. I love reading period. I read about 2 books a week, although my favorite of course is fantasy/supernatural. As far as Supes go my favorite to read about would be a toss up between Shifters and Fairys. I tend to use orange alot it is by far my favorite color and anything I buy I tend to always get orange when available. My Dob - 1/8/75. I work in the medical field. I own first season of true blood on dvd and watched the second season and will also buy when it comes available. I have read all 9 books , but did NOT read Fairy dust, ect. I am a little confused as to whether I should buy them or not?? I am under the impression that if I buy a Touch of Dead that it will have all those short stories in it?? My theme song would be EYES ON FIRE-BLUE FOUNDATION-( better known for track nine on twilight cd) I am exactly like the character in BITTEN -KELLY ARMSTRONG.If you have not read that book , and it is great by the way, I am most like Pam. Theme movie is a tricky one I will have to get back to that one.Anyways I am very happy to have found this site on Google and only wished I had found it sooner. Everyones insite is wonderful and asking questions I have been curious about and recieving answers that I would have never thought about! My responses are down to earth as I feel this is the one place I can not be as responisble and professional in my words! It is as refreshing and relaxing to me as Bill was to Sookie's brain. Thank you Sookie Stackhouse Forum!!!!
Hi everyone! I'm stay at home mom to my 9 month old daughter. So this is a nice break for some adult conversation.
My husband is in the Navy (he's a big CH/TB fan as well). We're currently stationed down in Pensacola, FL. Thank you guys for starting this forum!
I would just like to say that it is nice to have adult conversation about these books and the forum is great.I am living in Dartford,Kent,England.
Answered my question from intro thread here.. please disregard kezz... I figured England, but had to ask... Mum may be used state side but it is usually in a sentence like "mums the word"... meaning keep your mouth shut... I call my mother Frances (with the occasional sarcastic inflection) and my husband just calls his mother "mother" with the standard Norman Bates inflection... Otherwise I hear lots of mom, mommy or ma and when referring to Grandmothers, mamaw, maw maw or granny.
Thankyou for telling me that CMaC.
Caroline, please... and welcome again to the forum...
Hey everyone! My name is Ashley and I absolutely love to read, but I also love to talk about what I'm reading. I'm an overthinker, and when I found this forum I was so excited. I love the politeness, open-mindedness, and the freedom to dissect every word and discuss it with others. I found this forum through looking for answers or clarity on certain parts of the books, and I just kept coming back here. I started reading the books this summer after my sisters and I rented season 1 of True Blood on DVD and started season 2. I went all over town looking for this series and had to by them one at a time, I blame the poorly stocked Wal-Mart. I read each book in a day and would sometimes have to wait two weeks before I found the next one. I believe it only added to my anticipation and dissection of each book though. I'm currently lending my books out, getting others addicted. Perhaps I should have started this out with "Hi my name is Ashley and I have a problem"? Regardless, these books sucked me in, and I'm spreading the word lol. One of my sisters has finished the series and we are both pro-Eric. That could be partially due to the fact that when we saw him on the show we said "Woah, who is that?" But his character has definitely won me over. Anyway, I appreciate all of the kindness and I look forward to discussing one of my favorite series' with you!
Welcome to the forum, AYE17, Ashley, you are among like minded people on here, we have all had our obsessive moments with the Sookie books and ERIC........I look forward to reading your posts....
Hi everyone i am Darlene I go to school at night and stay at home with my one year old alaina. I am done with the series so far i am buyng
Welcome ladies. Looking forward to your posts.
Please check out the posting rules (if you haven't already). And have a look through all the thread topics so you can see what has been & is being discussed.
Also - may I make a small request please? When writing long posts, please just hit the return key to make paragraphs. It's so much easier to read through everyone's great posts. Also much easier to find & cite them (copy & repaste) when responding to something specific that was said.
Thanks so much - Laura
Sorry Laura! I'm guilty of the long posts with no break or end in sight lol. I'll remember that though =)
Thanks Ashley! Now we have 2 Ashley's...Ashmarie being the other one. Man - I have to update my poster list. It's so long!
Ooohhh! Hey, Darlene! I'm a Darlene too! glad to have ya!
lol really i mean people have the same name as me
i mean many i type to fast
Hi, figured I would tell you more about me. My name is Darlene I am currently finishing my last year of high school, which i attend twice a week during the night, so I can spend time with my daughter. I have my own apartment with my daughter, Alaina, and my bf, Ryan, he plan to get married well we are i found the receipt where he bought the ring but shh not suppose to know lol I love to read just about anything so if you have a book you've read and loved tell me about it![]()
Really? I've not met many Darlenes and I'm from Texas! LOL. Anyhow...
I love to read just about anything so if you have a book you've read and loved tell me about it
You just opened the flood gates with that statement! Try the Other Book Recommendations thread. Tons of suggestions there. I, myself, am stuck on Karen Marie Moning's Fever Series and Highlander Series, as well as J.R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood Series. Happy reading! ![]()
thank you will look into that trust me my boyfriends sister turned me on to the Sookie Stackhouse series and I'm went hook line and sinker
Hey everyone!! i am new to the forum and wanted to say hi and that i recently finished all the sookie stackhouse series. I found the forum and I am excited that so many people love the series as much as i do!!!!
Hello, pacinator. Welcome to the forum!
Welcome pacinator,
I look forward to reading your posts and sharing the love of the Sookieverse with you....we are all somewhat obsessed with it so are you amongst friends here......enjoy reading!!
Hi everyone,
My name is Liann. I want to sincerely thank all of you who started and contribute(d) to this site as it has been such fun to read. I have had many snort out the nose, laugh till I cry moments! I've also really appreciated the in depth discussion and insights. I have read all 9 books, and then went out and purchased TB first season on DVD. I am currently having major withdrawal as I won't be able to get the second season DVDs until next May...coinciding with the next book, so that'll be a busy month!
Anyway, just wanted to say "Hi" and thanks for feeding my obsession. None of my friends who have read the books enjoy dissecting them the way I do. Also, I think some of you mentioned being Buffy fans? I am(was) also a huge fan!! My husband and I really enjoy the Joss Whedon universe, and his humour which is part of what I think I like so much about these novels.
OK, I'll hope over to the "fave" thread now.
Welcome to the forum Liann. This forum is great for addicts. It's like a twelve step program to further your addiction and alleviate your withdrawal symptoms. I look forward to reading your posts!
Ashley, you apparently have lots of addictions. I think I read somewhere crack, heroin and fanfic.![]()
I know! It's crazy...you just start on one, but then there's this other "thing" that is better and stronger. I just can't put them down!
But, it's not my fault! Laura introduced me to the heroin!
Oh, who am I kidding? I chose to read the Sookie books...and obsess over Eric...and snort the crack...and inject the heroin...
Oh, who am I kidding? I chose to read the Sookie books...and obsess over Eric...and snort the crack...and inject the heroin...
Egggsactly. Glad you remembered you had a choice in there Ashley. Who me? An enabler? I think not. It's more like getting partners in crime. Or Fight Club.
Welcome to the Crack-Den-of-Inequity Liann.
Thanks so much! I guess I am now a card carrying member!! Are there any rules like "No-one talks about the pit fights for AS", or etiquette on how to manage the rest of your life while you're daydreaming about Eric?
Liann, we should look into that. Maybe even create some pamphlets...
Or make soap. We could make forum soap.
Yes, just think of it like you have joined a forum Fight Club based in Vegas.....1st rule...whatever happens here, stays here.
Gotcha! Mum's the word...
Hi there all. I'm new here i look forward to taking part in the discussions
Haha Fight Club, I love it. Though this forum is closer to a book club lmbo. Fight Club sounds way cooler.
We can duke it out with each other but we present a united front... If only we were promoting anarchy....
LoL. You're hilarious Caroline. That sound like our motto.
hi. has anyone read any of the spoilers for book 10 "Dead in the Family?" I read them on Facebook. Wondering how accurate they are.
Well we have a DITF speculation thread & some posters have posted things that CH has said about the book. Have a scroll through there.
thank you!
Laura, I didn't see the synopsis and recent spoilers I found on facebook and I not sure if I should post it. THe thread seems more like a "speculation" thread vs. a "spoiler" thread. haha, I'm new here so not sure what to do.
I'll start a New thread.
Thanks again. ![]()
Oh for Cripes Sake people who are LURKING to "report" back to their camps. Get a Life.
It has been brought to my attention that we have people TROLLING (I guess that's the word..??) this site & reporting back to the 'Powers That Be' on CH's site & getting people into actual trouble.
Seriously - if you don't like what's being said over here, don't come over. Stay in your little bubble. I don't get the need for validation & ridiculous & pathetic spy games. Jesus - you think you were trying to stop the Cold War & find KGB infiltrators. Honestly - you guys should be embarrassed at the need for such validation over something as stupid as this.
These are free forum's where technically anyone can say anything, stop freaking Policing other sites b'c it doesn't fit in your agenda or you get freaked out b'c you actually know down deep that other people have a point & it bothers the shit out of you.
Guess what? It won't bother the shit out of you if you just stay in the dark by staying where you are & talk amongst yourselves. Think about it. I feel like I am having Deja-vu in my school playground.
This isn't life or death. It's fictional books. Holy shit there are some crazy people out there. I wouldn't even say anything normally b'c this is so pathetic & asinine... it's mind blowing, however the fact that I know that what we have said over here has been taken & used to mess with someone??
Bullies. Scared, petty, frightened little bullies. Get over it. Move on. Nothing to see here. NEXT.
Hello All, I am Ashley, I found this WONDERFUL site today and just love it!!! This is just so much better than a weekly book club!
Welcome. It seems we have several Ashleys now. This is a great site.
I recently got my husband reading Sookie and he just isn't as much fun to argue about with the possibilities...this is like Heaven!
Damn. There are too many Ashley's. I feel like I am back in high school when there was an Ashley in every one of my classes. I always hated when the teacher would call my name because I never knew which Ashley they were talking to.
Anyway...Hi, Ashley. I'm Ashley. Welcome to the forum!
I remember in 8th grade all the Ashley's took a pic together in one class there was over 30 of us. Thanks for the welcome!
Oh, lord! Horrible. I didn't have it that bad.
Welcome Ashley & nice to meet you. Look forward to reading your posts.
I am having problen wiht HEA, what does that mean?
Oh...Happy Ever After...we actually have a thread for common acronyms used on this forum b'c we've even made a bunch up, so have a gander through there eventually.
OHHH i will have ot find that...i am still learning how to use this site
So we have the spy game on again, huh?! LOL
Apparently.
Info says they went further with it this time taking a slightly different tact.
(Big sigh) It makes me even more thankful to have relative sanity & an external life (not that you would know it at the rate I am on)!
What is the spy game?
Lurkers from other forums coming onto this one for the purpose of starting drama.
you're kidding right?
oh wow, how childish. Does that cause lots of problems?
No, not kidding. Unfortunately. And yes, it has caused some problems.
is it the whole I'm telling! what sort of problems?
how can they cause problems?
No, no. I wouldn't say problems at all b'c it's just silliness & sad really.
Honestly - we've had only a minimum amount of crazy since the forum started, surprisingly.
They usually get a small run of posts in the beginning but we nip it fairly quickly. They're easy to spot & sometimes it can actually be fun b'c it so different & shakes things up. Keeps people on their game. I've actually appreciated some of the insanity b'c it gives me & others a chance to really bone up.
It's just this time, our stuff was being used against other people on other forums. That is beyond ridiculous b'c as we all know, this is fiction we are talking about here.
Not trying cure world hunger or anything.
i'm trying to find any of their posts? i assumed it was in the bill forum. my husband is sitting on the couch with me- he can't believe some of this. i'm stunned as well, but it's just kind of wow, you know?
Oh I don't remember all the threads where the crazy has happened but there are quite a few in various random threads. You'll see them when you start delving into the site.
Yeah I know it is kind of wow. It really does amaze me how these books have worked people up into such a lather to this point but..... not like the behavior has ever been discouraged when & where it should have been in the 1st place. So now, it's just taken a life of it's own.
That is beyond ridiculous b'c as we all know, this is fiction we are talking about here.
Not to mention that almost everything that is said is pure opinion, speculation, or personal interpretation. LoL.
BTW Welcome Ashley, I'm Ashley also, but most people on here call me Ash =)
Well Ash Thanks for the welcome! I dont care what people call me, I respond to most variations of our name!!!
I am clueless. I understand trolls but how are they using stuff from here to hurt people elsewhere? It probably isn't important, but if someone wants to PM with the details, so I can feel indignant and superior, too, I'd appreciate it.![]()
Funny that this would come to light here and now when all the dust has really cleared concerning the blow back from D&G.... When a lot of the crap really hit and I had the feeling that CH was just careless I ranted about how this last book set with me. I did not post it on her site but did not care if she saw it either because somehow I KNEW that someone from there was trolling here and reporting back.... and yes... that is ridiculous...
and really grow up.... It is like some shit head telling me someone I don't even know does not like me because they want to start shit... That is the kind of crap that elementary school was rife with...
I stopped posting at another forum because of juvenile bullshit. Couldn't deal with the sniping and holier-than-thou attitudes. This place has become my home, and you are all my friends. (I haven't had this many female friends in my whole life combined!)
I'm all for killing trolls...at least when I'm playing D&D.![]()
Hello all, I'm Tony. My wife just loves this site and has got me very interested in this so I will try it out. Don't I will be civil.
Dont worry I'll b civil
Some testosterone! Yeah! Welcome, Tony. We'll be gentle with you, we swear. ![]()
Trust me, he can take it, bring it on!!!!
Wow! A man on the forum. This should be interesting. Welcome, Tony!
Hi Tony!
the fang bangers are gonna eat you alive...
j/k welcome aboard ![]()
Wow it's great to be so welcomed!
Ashley.... Is that your husband?
I feel like Sadie Hawkins..... It's a MAN!!!!!!
Looking forward to some good he said she said..
Yes that is....I was tired of translating and reading to him. I am very proud of him to go up against so many Eric lovers at once.
Hi all, I'm new to the forum and to PNR. My name is Steph and I reside in the SF area. This last summer I caught a few episodes of Trueblood and quickly became a fan. Not one to wait around for a season to start, I quickly read through the first 9 Sookie Books. After that, I was hooked on the whole genre. Prior to that I only read non-fiction and classical literature, so it's a big departure for me.
So far my experience with PNR is the Sookie and Huntress series. I'm planning on starting the Hollows and Mercy Thomas series. Good to meet you all and I look forward to talking with ya'll.
Hi Steph, nice to have you, looking forward to your posts =)
I'm Ashley btw, but ash seems to be the name that stuck.
Welcome Steph, nice to have you here. I'm Ashley and I joined the site this weekend. This is a GREAT GREAT group!!
Hi Ash and Ashley. Yeah, I heard about this forum about month ago from another forum. I think they referred to this group as very analytical, but friendly. It's nice to converse with a smaller group of like minded and interested individuals. The other TB/Sookie forum is so popular, it's hard to have a real conversation with anyone, let alone be heard. Boy, this genre has really gotten popular the last couple of years.
I love this site. before I would just rant and rave to my hubby and i would never get to have enough convo about my books. Then I stumbled on this and i was like OHHH its AWESOME! Everyone is so nice here, from what I have seen. Plus almost everyone is an Eric fam here so it makes it even better!
It's the "Ashley" brigade. Welcome to the Forum, Steph! I am also Ashley.
I think they referred to this group as very analytical, but friendly.
Huh. I guess we should take that as a compliment. We are like a book club on steroids.
That is cute "Ashley Brigade"
Oh, I'm already on the outs. I'm not an Ashley. LoL.
Yes, I'm also an eric fan. Don't see how anyone can be really rooting for Bill, even if you just watch the show. I think the wardrobe department decided to make stephen moyer dowdy, and somehow more dead looking than the rest of the vampires on the show. He was a bit of a hottie in the beginning of the 1st season, so I don't know.
Book Bill definitely doesn't have my sympathies, regardless of the order made to him by the queen. I just don't see Eric ever willing to do that or keeping the charade going on for so long, especially if he was truly in love with her. Okay, I'm done ranting.
Hi Steph.... Welcome and enjoy.. It is a great place for some good book club conversation (that occasionally gets colorful).
We are like a book club on steroids.
Haha so true!
oh that is a great comment!!!!
I'm sure the board is going to be all lit-up after the 10th book comes out in May. I've never discussed books or specific characters online before. Well, this series is very popular and widely talked about; so I'm sure there will be lots of discussions and fun to be had. I'm glad to be here. Thanks.
Hi. My name is Stephanie. I have never participated in a social media format before. I am happy to have found you all and have been having fun reading through some of your conversations.
I am married and have 3 girls, 9, 6 and 2. I do sales consulting part time. I have been meaning to join a book club but with the little one - this is ideal.
A friend of mine was telling me about the True Blood series and that she thought they were based on a book series. I looked it up and found Charlaine's books. Outside of the BBC Pride and Prejudice film, I have always found the books to be so much better than any media. So, bought the books and have loved reading this series. I just finished the last book and am really sad about it.
Now, I need to watch the show!
Thanks again for all your insights and fun.
Welcome Stephanie....
I was new to the posting on a forum too.....this is a great place to ask questions and speculate on the books and have adult conversations with like minded souls......enjoy the forum...I look forward to your posts!
Oh and about watching the show....be ready for some REALLY bad interpretations though Eric is dead on from the books...they just change him a lot......as for the rest just watch and see.....they have taken a lot of liberties with the show!!
Hi Stephanie!! I am also new, almost a week now. This site is awesome and the people here are very nice. The series is so crazy, nothing compared to the books!!! Hope you enjoy the show though, you do get a few shots of a hot viking!
you do get a few shots of a hot viking!
Haha and don't forget those few cherished moments when he's with Pam. LoL. Those two are so funny together.
Yes you have to love Pam, she is great. I loved it in the show when he got blood in his hair and he was afraid of how upset pam was going to be. Just great!
I know! I love when she doesn't want to go look for Maenad and he makes her. When she walks out he says "She is incredibly lazy, but loyal." Something like that, it's great because she's the only one who could get away with it.
those WERE great pumps =)
Hahahaha!
Hello Everyone -
So listen, we are growing & it's all good & a ton of fun but b'c of that - it's easy to get off topic & do the one liners back & forth, etc.. also to fall back into rooting for your favorite. That's all well & good but if you guys can keep cognizant of topic thread you are in & move your posts to more appropriate threads that would be hugely helpful. We really just want to try & keep the bigger discussions organized.
Thread topics are 149 - I am sure there is almost something for almost everything.
How to move your single posts:
You have 2 icons in every one of your messages in the upper right corner of each post you make . One "E" for edit, one "X" for delete.
IF you cant to copy & paste & whole discussion between you & others..
Just literally highlight the entire text of all the copy you want to move
ALWAYS notify where posts have been moved form at the top or bottom of posts moved.
Thank you - L
Hello guys - It’s been brought to our attention that there is more insanity going on.
Not sure how true it is or not but we are just letting you all know as an FYI.
If you don’t want people jumping down your throat (if they even do) or things you say to be taken out of overall context or purposely misunderstood then just watch what you say about CH.
Apparently, her thoughtful/kind fans are yet again running back to her & her site & hurting her by telling her things said on other sites.
Again, not sure how true this is & it could JUST be a be rumor gotten out of hand so please do not get excited.
We’re not sure if things are even taken from here but probably as we have recently discovered that one of our most antagonistic ex-posters is one that has very vocal free reign over there and well, just put 2+2 together....
So if you care about your words being taken out of context, please be aware of what you say about CH, forum etc...& let’s remember people, we are here to discuss & share our opinions about books that we love.
They are just books & this is a free public forum so sharing of our perspective is what it’s all about – the good, bad & ugly.
We would never ask you not to be honest. We do ask that you remain socially aware of what you put out here & just take a few breaths & maybe not blurt the 1st things that come to mind in certain instances.
Sincerely - Laura & Caroline
And uh....HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
Hello everyone!
My name is Lilly, I am 26 years old and live in Germany. (so pardon my future "English-mistakes"...) I started watching true blood out of boredom and somehow couldn't stop watching. Once I found out, that it was based on books and Sookie ends up marrying Eric , I bought the first one immediatly and then couldn't stop reading after that. Since the series is not very popular around here (I'm stil hoping for a kind of petition for bringing TB on german televiosion but I doubt that there are enough people for that...) there is no one who would listen to/read about my ranting abpout the differences between the books and the show. I was really glad to find this forum and read about your theories!
I can't wait for the next book and the season 3 of TB and I really hope, there will be a more adequate portrayal of Eric!
Welcome Lilly- enjoy!
Hey, Liily. Herzlich Willkommen! Hope you enjoy the forum. We have posters from all over the globe here, so you're in good company!
Thank you! ![]()

English is a hard language to learn and I think you're doing great. I have really enjoyed reading your posts, keep them coming lol.
Thank you so much^^

Sure i will keep postings...in fact i've something to share with you about TrueBlood and i'll do it very soon when i'll put all together my train of thoughts...ahah^^
Ah... I've been on this forum for a month and a half and never did this I thought there was only one.... sorry
I'm Maleyna, my nickname is Nena or Nen. I was born and raised in American Samoa. I identify mostly with my Samoan culture, but truth be told I'm a mixed pallet of Polynesian, European, and Asian ancestry. My maiden name is very Danish, but I look like an island girl! This is me most recently, I don't really like being in pictures so this one is few months old. I've always been a tomboy, it's "like pulling teeth" according to my friends to get me to dress-up or wear make-up... It didn't help that I was raised like a boy. I have been told that I'm "intimidating". I don't think so, my husband says I intimidate MEN: "Eh~ men don't like knowing that you really don't need us, most men want to be the hero." I can see his point I guess, thankfully my hubby is extremely secure in himself. I have a lot of interests and hobbies. Aside from reading, I carve/woodworking, sew, and draw. I'm a jack (jane?) of all trades, I've learned and done a lot of jobs growing-up and within my military career.
I've lived in several parts of the world thanks to my 12 yr military service, my hubby is still in the military~very fair Italian-American (Northern Italian). We currently live in N. Carolina, with our 13 y/o daughter. My daughter is quite the character herself, after living and being immersed in so many different cultures, my daughter finds American teens very hard to relate to, so she and I can agree on most things about mainland life and people. I'm a stay at home mom, by choice, I had it with all the politics and bureaucracy that healthcare is nowadays so I quit! I hate desk duty and I was a bad workaholic. I volunteer here and there to keep my skill-set current, but that's it. I'm not at a loss of things to do, we own our house on 3.2 acres and some animals that I maintain.
Umm... that's all I can think of to say.
Maleyna, I hope you don't mind, but I have posted your picture below.... You are gorgeous!
So do you mind me asking where bouts in NC you are living? The company that I work for does a lot of contract stuff with the bases in here so I am somewhat familiar with the areas around the bases... There are also a few other Carolina girls on here too...
I am sorry to here about your daughter not relating to state side teens. How long have you guys been continental?
One of my dearest friends grew up in NC though her parents were both from NJ. When she was a sophomore in high school her parents moved them back up North to a suburb outside of NY. The first day of school, all the boys were talking about how pretty she was and how cute her southern accent was. By the end of the day, all of the other girls hated her. Fortunately her mother (who typical taught a few math classes at State her in NC) was home and she and her mother got really close that year. Her parents moved to another where she got along a little better but I know she treasured the fact that when things were really rough she had her mother there and they kept each other up...

Well Thank-you, I don't mind, I just figured I'd give people the option whether they wanted to see what I look like. I get carded when I go places, especially if I'm in jeans and tee or board shorts and tee and most people think my daughter is my sister. I do love coloring my hair fun colors though, I currently have blue highlights, maybe that's another reason I get carded huh? It gets irritating because I like my age, I want my smile lines around my mouth and eyes, I think age is beautiful and those wrinkles in particular show I have a happy life. I don't normally dress-up or wear make-up because I like people accept me as I am. One day I will be a wrinkled, blue or purple haired old lady with a mustache and saggy boobs and my hubby says he won't care as long as he's always my Handsome. Yes, that is my nickname for my husband, he's even programmed in my phone as "Handsome".
You are gorgeous Nena! You have such pretty complection =)
And a very soft and beautiful smile!
OK I appreciate the compliments, you guys are going to give me a big head. I've never looked at myself as the "pretty one", I've always reserved that for my sisters.
You're very pretty and have a very sweet face too.
Hello, my name is Helen, I am 33 and live near Oxford in the UK. I was introduced to the series by a friend when looking for something new to read. I have read them all out of order due to the peculiarities of the library system and still have not read the first book. However, I am getting the box set of the first eight for Christmas (heavily reduced on Amazon UK) so will probably have more thoughts once I have had a sequential read through.
Hi Helen! Great to meet you and welcome!
Hey Helen, welcome to the forum! The first book, DUD, isn't my fave but I think it's important to read it just to understand how things started and were set up. I can't imagine reading them out of order! That must have been really confusing!!
Hello Hellen, welcome! Thats great that you're getting the box set so you can read them in order. I'm really interested to hear your opinions on the series since you read it in an unconventional way. Like Liann (LunarBunny) said that must have been confusing!
My name is Jay; I'm from central California, married, and currently have 1 Scottish Terrier. I've been lurking here for a while and decided I should check in even though I may not have a lot to contribute. You all seem to have a good handle on things!
I started reading the Sookie series when it became available in the boxed set for Kindle. I was reluctant to "commit" to 8 books, but after reading some samples, decided to give them a go since I had previously read the first book in the "Fever" series (offered free last fall) and Sookie's voice reminded me of Mac. I definitely am hooked on the Southern Vampires and given the year-long wait between installments I'm glad I got a late start on these.
I don't dislike Bill and believe he's gotten something of a bum rap -- being "punished" for things outside his control -- but thus far think that Eric is Mr. Right.
I don't watch the series on HBO because I don't want to mess up the pictures in my mind from reading the books. From the glimpses I've seen, I'm not sold on Anna Paquin as Sookie... with all due respect for her previous work... I'm sure there must have been a lot of competition for the roll, so good for her.
Everyone here has great insight and I appreciate being able to assuage my cravings while waiting for the new release. There's something about getting other points of view and having to "defend" one's position that opens up the books even more than they would be from simply reading them in isolation; so thanks to everyone participating here!
Hi Jay! It sounds like you have opinions so you definitely would have something to add to our discussions. I look forward to reading your posts!
I don't hate Bill, and I agree he has had a rum go of it. It was not his fault that Sophie Ann ordered him to Bon Temps, or that Lorena decided to call him back. However, I do hold him responsible for how he chose to handle those situations. He caused Sookie a world of hurt when he really didn't have to, but never seems to really take responsibility for the choices he made. That bothers me... and the stalking... and the listening to Sookie and Eric have sex... vampire or no, I find it creepy and I get the sense that he has a much darker past than he lets on. Still, he's a great character and there wouldn't be the same level of story without him!!
"... listening to Sookie and Eric have sex..."
Are you talking about DAG when he was outside her house while Eric was there? I guess I didn't interpret that as "listening" but given their superior hearing, he could have, I suppose. I have known people who were "dumped" and grieving over a relationship who would go to their ex's place to be outside... just to somehow be close or connect or hope, or whatever. It's hard to imagine when you're not having those feelings yourself and it does sound odd, but people going through the pain of losing a relationship sometimes do odd things.
Yes, I was referring to that scene in DAG. Just my opinion, but their hearing is so good, I have to believe he heard it... and E&S aren't exactly quiet about it!!! lol!
Welcome Jay! I look forward to reading your posts.
DITF is available on pre-order at amazon and on Kindle for $15
Thanks Nena! I was thinking the other day about finding out when I could pre-order it. I'll probably end up doing that because I can't count on my poorly stocked Wal-Mart or overpriced Barnes & Nobel to even have it the day it comes out (if they do it will be 30 bucks, ugh). Anywho, thanks again ![]()
I think I am going to wait to preorder it for my Kindle because the price usually drops closer to the day...at least that is what happend with the LAST sookie book
I can't wait!!! I want to order now, but you're right the price normally drops the closer to the release date it gets.
Hey everyone, just wanted to put out a quick intro. My name is Sasha and I have just entered the world of Sookie Stackhouse about three months ago. I saw that show first, and then found my way to the books. I have an unhealthy additcion to the series AND to Alexander Skarsgard. This seemes like the perfect place for me to feed the addiction! I am *impatiently* awaiting the 10th book!
Hello All. I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Jennifer and I just found out about your site. I have read all the Sookie books and follow TB on HBO, I have checked out a few of your threads and I loved all the comments about the clothes in the Fashion Saints & Sinners! So true. It's nice to find some fellow "Viking" fans.
Welcome Jen & Sasha. Hope you enjoy & just be sure to read the forum rules & addendum if you haven't already. Look forward to reading your posts. Cheers- Laura
Welcome Sasha and Jen!! We have lots of fun here
Hey all - just my introduction. I'm Claire and I read up through book 7 or 8 before I gave in and watched TrueBlood and I have been looking for a decent place to talk about all things book related. Admittedly, up through book seven I was still holding out for Sookie to get back with Bill but I think I am definitely on board with Eric now. LOL. Anyway, nice to meet everyone!
Book 7? I would have thought book 6...
Be careful what you read on the site. There are a ton of spoilers for book 9 and even some for book 10 (Dead in the Family) that has not been released yet.
Regardless. Welcome to the forum. Please feel free to like whomever. It is a fairly Eric-centric forum, but don't let that stop you if you do like Bill. The tone is intended to be a book club style discussion on the Sookie books and as long as you are respectful of others, it does not matter who you like. In the words of Tangina from Poltergeist, "All are Welcome"
Actually, I finished 9 this morning:) And thanks for the welcome. I come from a fairly long background of literary analysis (I eve still work IN the English department) so I am pretty excited.![]()
Hello Claire!!! Hope you have a good time here. Look forward to reading your future posts!!!!
Hi, doing the respectful thing and checking in with the sherriffs. My name's Ellen, I was given books 1-6 for Christmas this year by my husband, then went out and bought 7-9. I'm feeling desperately frustrated at not having anyone around to discuss the series with as my husband has yet to finish them and won't let me talk about them at all. E x
Welcome Ellen!!! My Hubby read the books too and I LOVE talking about them with him. Enjoyed reading your posts!!!
Folks, you don't have to wait to pre-order anything at Amazon because of potential price drops. They will give you the lower price if the price drops after you have pre-ordered. And they won't raise the price if it does go up after your pre-order. Recently I pre-ordered an audiobook that went up in price, and I kept my lower price. And I've gotten lots of emails from Amazon notifying me of price drops on things I've pre-ordered. To use an obnoxious cliche--it's win-win.
Thanks Judy I didn't know that! I guess I never checked my on-line statement close enough.
Nice to meet you Ellen, Jen, Sasha and Claire! More views to add to the pot. My husband is just starting the books, he's a TB fan. He thinks we put more thought into these books does than CH does.
Nena, I think your husband is right.
Hello, I am versan and I am a Sookie-holic. I am new and I am a friend of jeram. I have read the books a few times and I have watched the show a little. I don't much care for the show since they do not go by the books. So, yes, as you probably figured out, I am pro-Eric.![]()
Anyway, its awesome to have found this site. I can't wait to get into good conversations about the books.
hey hon!
My husband is just starting the books, he's a TB fan. He thinks we put more thought into these books does than CH does.
Nena, that's so funny. That's exactly what my husband says!! He has read them as well, and though obviously he's not as obsessed with them as I am, he enjoyed them. He says his issue is that many of them seem to be all over the place, and not well thought out. He keeps warning me that she's going to screw us all over after we've done all this speculating based on the story and mythology she's laid out! He doesn't think she keeps track. He's a huge Stephen King fan, and says that although SK writes organically just letting the story flow, he always goes back and dots his i's and crosses his t's. I can't comment, as I haven't really read any Stephen King myself.
Hello all newbies. Welcome & thanks for intro-ing yourselves & enjoy. - Laura
I just wanted to say thank you to everyone and I figured this was the best place to do it.
When I joined just 3 days ago I was utterly confused and frustrated and dreading the 5 month wait for the next book. Reading all your thoughts and comments has calmed me right down!
It's been so many years since I last reviewed a book for an English class, trying to dissect its meaning and imagery, and seeing how you've done it has helped me look at these books in a new light. I'm now re-reading, with pencil and pad at my side!
"Folks, you don't have to wait to pre-order anything at Amazon because of potential price drops... And I've gotten lots of emails from Amazon notifying me of price drops on things I've pre-ordered..."
Thanks for the tip. I've pre-ordered my copy!
Hi, my name is Linda I live in Australia. Recently watched all 2 seasons of True Blood together and liked it so much I bought the 8 book set, then before I finished ordered the 9th book and now I have finished that am waiting for the short stories to turn up in the post. (I have 3 kids under 5 and have read 2 books in the past 5 years - These 9 books I read in 9 days).
Have been reading through your site for a couple of days and decided to introduce myself and join in.
Of course I am all for Sookie and Eric - I sooo hope she doesn't end up with the starter vampire.
I love that. The starter vampire. That's great.
Ahhh Liann! I can identify with your hubby... I've been reading Stephen King since I was in the third grade... yeah 8 y/o I managed to finish the Shining in 18hrs and then I HAD TO open the shower curtain and look in the tub before I could use the bathroom until I was 10!
Wow! You were a brave 8 yr old. I still can't bring myself to read that book. I saw the movie one summer, I was working in a resort area doing a revue show. One hotel, the only way to get to the backstage was down this creepy, poorly lit corridor with doors on both sides and then up this rickety staircase with only one lightbulb suspended way up at the top. If I was lucky, someone would have already turned it on. There was no way to turn it on from the bottom. I have always been suggestible, and every week I had to "run the gauntlet" to get back stage with every creepy, terrifying thing from the movie chasing me in my imagination... there's no way I'm reading that book!!!
I HAD TO open the shower curtain and look in the tub before I could use the bathroom until I was 10!
Cripes Nena, sometimes I still have to!
Unca Steve is my all time favorite and, in my opinion, is the best American writer today. I wasn't as young as you when I started reading him, Nena, but I'm sure reading The Shining in 5th grade was a big reason why I love genre fiction. That and the fact that I love plot and characterization, something "modern literature" is sorely lacking.
Linday- what part of Australia? You mentioned on post, so I was wondering if you were at Alice Springs?
I wasn't into Stephen King- for whatever reason I just couldn't get into his writing. I would bounce back and forth in 6th grade from the classics (majorly into the Brontes and Jane Austen!), Michael Crichton and Patricia Cornwell. "The Body Farm" freaked me out big time. LOL
Hi jeram - In Brisbane which is that capital of Queensland (state) East coast kind of halfway up. It is not far from the Gold Coast/ Surfers Paradise if you have heard of that.
Hi all,
My name is Trish. I recently became addicted to the Sookie Stackhouse novels. I read through them in about a weeks time, after watching the first season of True Blood. I have to say that my whole view point changed drastically after reading the second book. While I like the fact that True Blood follows multiple characters (sometimes w/ the books I get annoyed when I know that certain information is missing b/c Sookie is not present to "report" or reflect on it.) Regardless, I am all pro-books. Furthermore, pro-Eric.
I came across this site when I was feeling anxious about the ending of D&G and the 1st chapter of DITF. Specifically, Niall's closing remarks regarding "the vampire." I wanted a place where people actually discussed with logic and sense, rather than get myself into a Bill vs. Eric debate. Or, like I've experienced with other series, been dissapointed by lack of respect. I have to say this place seems truely out of the ordinary in that respect. And, it doesn't hurt that (as mentioned in the Rules Thread) the majority of posters share my views.
I won't get that crazy with details of my life, but to give a basic idea of where I'm coming from I want to share a couple things. So, I'm 24 yrs old, and obviously love ot read. I tend to go for genres that have the element of romance within (yes, I'm a sap.) The last two that I've read have been this one and Twilight. I have come to the realization that I won't be happy with a male suitor until I meet a vampire.lol Anyways, I'm always up to discuss aspects of the books. I am big on the "relationship factor" in a book, but what really gets my attention are writers that build up those relationships in a realistic way. I was super excited and impressed with CH in the beginning and I still have hope that she will return to the ways of "planting seeds" or forshadowing in her novels. And, most importantly, I want that to come to a happy ending for Eric and Sookie.
I suppose that is all for now. I hope that I've followed the directions correctly. I'm trying. This is my first Forum that I've joined. It's alot different than Fanpop, which I've been on for a while. Keeping my fingers crossed!
I wanted a place where people actually discussed with logic and sense, rather than get myself into a Bill vs. Eric debate.
Then you have found the perfect place. Welcome to the forum, Trish! I hope you like it here and I look forward to reading your take on the series.
Welcome Trish!!!! Look forward to reading your thoughts.
Hi Trish, I'm Kate, also new as of today to this forum. Finding it and reading this has completely reassured me that I'm not alone in my obsession for these books and these characters. And I agree, the 'logic and sense' I have found on this forum is spectacular!
I'm 32, love to read, doing a phd and right now not doing a very good job at it. Mostly because I am chasing a 10 month old boy around (my son) and then reading these books and then searching online for info. Thanks everyone on here for the nice welcome.
Thanks to you all for welcoming me! Kate, I give you props for doing a Phd at the same time as chasing a 10 month old. I got a dog while finishing my master's and almost didn't survive!lol And Ashley's, both of you, I've read some of your posts and definitely feel that we mirror each other quite a bit. I'm glad to leave the nonsense and childish forums behind. I wrote something in the Niall-which Vampire thread, but I'm gearing up to post my thoughts/analysis of the Sookie-Eric buildup, foreshadowing, etc. Anyone have a suggestion for where I should post this?
Maybe "Who Is The 'One' for Sookie" thread or the "Ad Nauseum: All the Reason's for Sook/Eric to be together (a.ka. "ESA"- Eric/Sookie Anonymous)". Sorry I can't do the links, I'm far from tech savvy, trying to get better though lol.
hi trish! thanks! oh and thanks aye17 for the info. (is this how we should greet people? with their handle unless we are introduced formally? ha ha ha lol trying to be the polite newcomner, i'm TOTALLY new to online groups and this is my first time being involved in something like this). anyway, it's good to be directed to the proper threads...i was posting in 'eric: connecting the dots' because i tend to lean towards conspiracy and paranoia. is the 'connecting the dots' thread more about eric (and sookie?) as a political entity, while the two mentioend above are more for the romantic aspect to the relationship?
is the 'connecting the dots' thread more about eric (and sookie?) as a political entity, while the two mentioend above are more for the romantic aspect to the relationship?
The "Who is the One" thread and "Ad Nauseum" concentrate more on the Eric/Sookie relationship and gushing about how awesome the Viking is. The "Connecting the Dots" thread is an overall analysis of Eric. That includes conspiracies, lingering questions, Eric as a political entity, Eric in regards to Sookie, etc. It's basically his character analysis thread.
Hello Kate & Trish - welcome & I have loved reading your posts. Great out of the gate starts. I think it's safe to say you can call most of us by our 1st names. Generally, if people only want to be called be their handle - they'll say it or not give it their name at all but for the most part, we all get pretty familiar here. Enjoy!
Hi to the newbies... Welcome to the forum. Big thanks to the regulars (Two of the few Ashleys) that gave some awesome directions for where good posting can be done.... I look forward to reading your thoughts.
FYI - Call me Caroline or Caro...
I love that Caro, Two of the Few Ashleys...i've never felt like part of a group but here, geez you ladies are like an extension of my family!!
As to not break any forum rules, where might I ask a question about how so-and-so found out X, and in which book? This sounds vague but there's been something I keep thinking about, though the answer is probably so simple.
Yeah sorry RVT, I'm not sure what you're asking? Does this have to do w/Sookie? If it does, look through the 158 thread topics to the left...? You may find where to post your question by discerning which thread topic you think would be most appropriate. Or you can PM me.
If it's random or about another book - there are 2 different threads for both topics.
I can't figure out how to send you a private message! Tangler forums make me feel computer illiterate. ![]()
Just move your cursor over so it hovers over my handle name. You'll see an option to "chat with friend".
Hi just wanted to introduce my self. I just reread all the book start to finish and was looking for a place to discuss them.
Welcome! You've definitely found the right place!
Welcome VikingVamp!!
thank you!
Hey figured I'd introduce myself I knew to forums but I'm completely obsessed with this series so I need somewhere to discuss them...
My name is Devan and I'm 20. I started off watching True blood on HBO and couldn't wait until the 3rd season to see if Eric and Sookie got together so I turned to the books, I've read all 9 in the past few days. I already disliked Bill before I even picked up the books(I don't know what it is but there is something about him that just rubs me the wrong way) So naturally I was over the moon when I realized that CH has definately been leaning towards Eric throughout the entire series.
This site popped up on google when I was trying to find a way to make peice with how dead and gone ended and dead in the family started. I've read through some of the threads and this forum stands out because the people here seem to be rational and don't resort to temper tantrums. So I'm looking foward to contributing to the speculations what direction the next book will take.
Welcome Devan! Glad to have you. I can't promise I won't throw temper tantrums (I did briefly after the synopsis of DITF came out) but I try my best. And, the people here are great at calming me down.lol
Looking forward to your posts. Trish
Thanks lol I completely understand having a tantrum over that it was somewhat upsetting
This is a totally safe place to lash out occassionally, we all have our little rants from time to time. What's great it that noone is ever disrespected, singled out, or personally attacked and that's what counts. Welcome to the forum! ![]()
Welcome Casey & Devan! Hope you enjoy. Thanks ladies for welcoming the newbies. You rock.
My name is Ronni and I am from New Jersey. I am 34 and I have only been reading these books for about 5 months. I have read them each many times. I found this sight when I was searching for information about the series. I am a huge Eric fan! I have read through the rules of posting, but since this is the first time I have ever done something like this, I apologize if make mistakes. The wait for book #10 is excruciating, I don't know how you all have done it for years!
Hey, Ronni, welcome! I've only been reading these books since August, so 8 months. Not so far ahead of you in that regard! Even so, I totally agree, the wait is excruciating. ![]()
Thanks for reading the rules. We all do our best to abide by them, but inevitably mistakes are made, so don't worry too much about it. We try to help each other out in that regard as well! Have fun, and I look forward to reading your posts!!
I came on board with the Sookie books and the forum in February of last year. I picked up the first two books in an airport in January and blew through the first 8 in about a week. Then had to wait til May for 9... A year later, it is easier and I have found other books that will tide me over... But I feel ya..
Hello my name is Chelsea a friend of mine got me to read the books in exchange for her reading the twilight series. It was def a good trade off because now I love SVM more then twilight by far! I am team Eric all the way and I really enjoy this site. I can't seem to get to the rules
the home page won't load for me but I think I get the idea from what I've seen here. In a nut shell they seem to be 1) respect everyone and their opinions 2) post comments in the right thread 3) nothing too lude. Let me know any others that I have yet to learn. Thanks ![]()
Hi Ronni,
I got the 9 books for Christmas from my husband and read them in a week, so my wait's not been far off yours either. I have bided my time by reading some really good fanfiction (have a look at the fanfic topics on here for great links). I fell so in love with some of the fanfiction out there that I have this horrid feeling I'm going to be really disappointed with what ever CH deals out next.
Hi Chelsea, nice to see another convert to the right team
Welcome, Chelsea!! I started with the Twilight series, too. My neighbour, who is my connection for all things vampire, loaned me the SVM books next and that has been a much more intense experience!! I enjoyed Twilight, but forgot about it fairly quickly. Needless to say, SVM has sort of stuck in my head.
I don't know about the "not being lude" thing?! I guess we try to be somewhat intelligent about it, but there have been some pretty raunchy, and usually hilarious discussions that have had me in tears just reading them!
The only thing I can add to your take on the rules is to try to read the threads first before posting, but I realize that they are now incredibly long and that can be a challenge. Still, there are some really good ideas and convos to read on them so it's a good idea to try. Maybe our mods, Caroline and Laura could chime in with what they think is appropriate. ![]()
There is NO rule about not being lewd.
We have fun and have had many, many discussions about Eric's gracious plenty. You can talk about whatever you want, the main thing is to be respectful to each other.
You ladies rock. Thank you so much for always welcoming & encouraging the new posters & helping out.
The rules...well? You pretty much have it Chelsea. And Ash & Liann are right - there are no rules about being lewd! I personally am a fan of most things blue. It's free speech over here esp. with a sense of humor. We LOVE to laugh! Open thoughts & opinions are sincerely welcome as long as it's resepectful to others. That really means no trolling. If a person is here to bait & agenda spew - they're out. Other than that it's all good. You never have to agree, feel free to say what you feel just be mindful that approach goes a long way.
Just so you know - most people do go by 1st names here. If you feel comfortable with that - we do ask posters to fill out their little bio preference so when you hold your cursor over your little avatar or handle name - you can see you name pop up.
Try this link & see if it works for you.

So welcome again, hope you have fun & enjoy the community. - Laura
Hey everyone!! I just wanted to say I'm sorry I have been MIA, had internet/computer issues, but I am back!!!!
Welcome back, Ashley! Glad your internet woes have been solved!
It is taking me FOREVER to catch up on all these posts!!!!!
Lol I know how ya feel Ashley.
Hi, my name is Sara, I'm from Buenos Aires Argentina, I started posting yerterday. I didn't check in with you guys, sorry, so I'm doing it now. I'm an Industrial Designer. I'm 29 (until May, when I'll be 29 all over again ;P). I'm single and a total Eric lover.
Welcome to the forum, Sara. Officially.
Hi Everyone. Sorry I didn't introduce myself sooner. I didn't see this thread. This is the first blog/forum I've ever posted in. I usually just read but I can't help but post here. ![]()
My name is Brandy. I'm 30 and I'm from KY. I'm married with 2 kids and my husband is in a fellowship so life can get really stressful since I work fulltime too and he's at work a lot. So, I read to keep my sanity and I like to read the same thing over and over again because I notice new things every time.
I found the Sookie books when I was looking for something new after the Twilight series. I'd heard about True Blood but never seen it so I thought I'd try the books. I think I read all 9 of them in a week. I'm so addicted and I can't wait until DITF comes out. I've watched both seasons of TB now and I think its okay but I don't "love" it. I'm very visual when I read so its hard for me to jump on board for someone else's interpretation. Plus, I don't like all the variances so much. I could live with most of them but I don't like it when they fool with the Eric/Sookie background. I'm definitely and Eric supporter.
Anyway, I look forward to swapping theories and comments with you all!
Welcome, Brandy.
I'm very visual when I read so its hard for me to jump on board for someone else's interpretation.
I, too, am very visual when I read. It runs like a film in my head. One of the many ways TB is so disappointing.
Hi All, I have been reading this forum for about 5 months now and thought it was about time to stop reading and join in.
Well, I am Sally and I am from the UK, I love the books, not too keen on the TB series, somehow my imagination wont let me enjoy the visual side that AB portrays. As I am from England we get the book release alot later than most of this forum so I am hoping you keep my sanity alive while I wait those few extra weeks ![]()
Welcome, Sally!! This forum has kept me going since last September, and now the new book is just around the corner! Have you read any fanfic? I find that helps, too.
Yes fanfic is great! THere are great rec's on the fanfic thread. Sadly for me, they've been feeding my addiction for the last 2 years since I found SVM.
Whoa, Judy! I'm only 9 months in to this addiction, and only started reading fanfic about 5 or 6 months ago. I was thinking there is no way my obsession could last through the next 3 books, but now I'm not so sure!! My husband and kids are going to kill me!
I know. It's so sad...I've been trying to read other books/series but they just aren't as captivating. My husband doesn't tease as badly because he has his own obsessions with games, much like most grownup boys! LOL.
Oh, yeah, all three of my "boys" - husband included - are gamers so I do have a little wiggle room there. I love the Night Huntress series, and am trying to get into others, but at the end of the day I think I've just been well and truly "Northmanized" and there's just no hope for me!!! My husband teases that if I keep reading the SVM fanfic, I'm not going to know what to do with myself if I ever read a story that doesn't include the name Eric.
Lol! I've been obsessed with the Sookie series for 18 months. This is a record for me, usually I get into something and really really like it for a few months but then I move on. I still will love it, but I just focus on a new book series for a while. But not with the Sookie books! Eric has me wrapped around his little finger. ![]()
Thank you for the welcome and I have read fanfic's even some of the forums fic's and I didnt know I was until I saw the thread on here ![]()
Oh, that's so cool!! I guess you really landed well here!
wow i've had sookie for 3 years!!!!! but this is by far the best place on the net for sookie addictions
Hello everyone I guess it's time to stop lurking. lol I've been reading the site for months now.
My name is April and I'm a sookieholic! I'm from a small town in Georgia. I've read and re read all the books. I also watch the show and although I find in disappointing at times, I do enjoy it. I just find Alexander Skarsgard so sexy. My family thinks I'm obsessed with the series and I have to agree!
Nice to see a fellow lurker! Welcome April
Hey April! I hear ya, on all of that! Welcome to the forum. We generally try to use first names here, so if you're comfy with that, it would be really helpful if you would include your first name on your profile. It's easy to forget or get mixed up, so it makes it a quick check! ![]()
Welcome April! My family thinks I'm crazy because I'm obsessed with the Sookie series too. I think they're right. ![]()
We all are obsessed! I started watching True Blood because of Six Feet Under, but was tepid about the show; started reading the books out of curiosity and got completely immersed in the Sookieverse. The books' tone is so different from the show, and I like it much, much better. Love it, in fact. Don't remember when I waited for a book with so much anticipation.
Hey My name is Mary and I am very new to this. I just love these books so very much! I don't do computer stuff very well. I am getting my 15 yr old son to help me with this.
Hey, Mary welcome to the forum! I was almost comepletly computer illiterate when I started posting here. I knew how to get into my email and go online because I had memorized the steps! LOL But that was all. I've picked up quite a bit just from participating here! looking forward to your posts!
thanks. I really don't want to screw up. It seems like everyone has alot of fun here. I don't even have a facebook page.
You won't screw up Mary.... You will do fine.... It is hardly rocket science even if it feels like it from time to time... Feel free to ask me if you need any help with anything.
Welcome Mary - I don't have Facebook either - or Twitter. That just confuses me. I feel like my mom.
Hello Mary! And here I thought I was the only one without facebook! I am glad to know I am not alone.
Welcome Mary! I got a facebook a couple months ago because my friends made me.
But I hardly ever do anything on it.
Sami, that's so funny, because I'm just in the midst of trying to set up a facebook page, because one of my best friends, who lives in Winnipeg, has hounded me into it!!! The funny thing is, I feel totally fine on this site now, but I'm totally lost over there. I'm getting all squinky about privacy settings, I'm scared to put pics of my kids on there... I know a lot of people who facebook all the time so I'll just have to go ask them.
See, Mary, it's not just you!!!
Hello Mary! I am computer literate so you can ask me any technical question and I will answer if I can. I do the whole facebook and myspace only because my friends force me to but I'm not too active on them. For some reason they feel the need to communicate there instead of email. I won't deny I love to broadcast cute pics of my kid and brag about what he did that was too adorable.
Liann you can keep the pictures of your kids private to only your friends. Just keep a generic picture up for your profile if you don't want strangers to see your kids.
I don't know about anyone else, but I am finding it so difficult to stay away from the spoilers thread. 4 more days...I can't decide if I should cancel my amazon order and just go to the book store when they open. To have to wait until they deliver it is almost unbearable. I can't stand the suspense! Sorry! I had to vent.
I have managed to avoid the spoilers thread, but I have to admit it's tempting. I've caught myself almost clicking on it a few times. I hope it's on my doorstep on Tuesday, but if not, there better be a copy of it somewhere on the internet or I'll be ordering the eBook from B&N.
Ronni, I would never be able to wait if the book was at the bookstore. I actually stopped at the Jewel Osco on my way home from school today to check if they had DITF out early. My mother called me a psycho when I told her.
Oh, and I admire you staying away from the spoiler threads, will power I do not have!
Before you admire my willpower, I have also been to the barnes & knoble (and have checked to see if any are open until midnight, which they are NOT). But I do plan on going to the B&N Monday night. They have to set up the display sometime, right?
Liann you can keep the pictures of your kids private to only your friends.
Thanks for the info, Judy! I think maybe I'm being a bit silly, but it's all new to me, and when it comes to my children I'd rather err on the side of caution!
To have to wait until they deliver it is almost unbearable.
Ronni, we ordered the 6th Harry Potter book and it didn't arrive until the day after it was due in the bookstore! I was so frustrated. Needless to say, I just went to the store for the 7th, and got it in my hot little hands as soon as I could!!
Can't read the spoilers now! It's just too darn close!! I'm avoiding it like the plague!!![]()
Don't read them if you want to be surprised. I went on yesterday and am mad I did, at least now I won't be tempted.
I'm not really going to be experiencing an element of surprise anyway since I skim through the chapters and read the Eric scenes beforehand. I think the issue for me is that I would rather spoil myself than be spoiled.
I think there should be some bookstores open until midnight!
Ronni and Liann, I bow to your tenacity. I caved and read and I do not regret BUT I do feel like I have lost some of the surprise...*sigh*
I wonder if Walmart will have them. They sell best sellers here and they are open 24/7. For really hot books, B&N holds opening parties. I got my 7th Harry Potter book the night of (after midnight). The line was huge and I was so pregnant at the time and had to pee really bad but I waited and got it. I would gladly do that for DITF if given the opportunity!
I forgot all about walmart, however I don't think it is open 24 hours here. But I will check. I would gladly wait on line as well, but they are closing at 11pm.![]()
Oh, me too, but seeing as the lady in the local book store looked at me like I was nuts for paying for it in advance, I don't hold out any hope for the midnight option!
I think the issue for me is that I would rather spoil myself than be spoiled.
I hear you, Ashley!! I am very well aware of my own need for control - If I'm going to go on the rocks, I want to be the captain of that ship!! ![]()
When I went to B&N I asked if they were open til midnight. When the lady asked me why I told her about the book coming out on the 4th. She said "can't you just wait until morning." I said, not if I don't have to. After I read your post Liann, I didn't even try to ask to pay for it in advance.
She said "can't you just wait until morning."
She didn't have to be a bitch. If you could wait, you wouldn't be asking about it.
I get the sense that some book store employees are either literary snobs or very tired of everybody else's book obsessions! Either way, they really don't have to be bitchy or judgmental about it. I do have the ability to laugh at myself, though, so I kind of found it funny when my local book store clerk was being so difficult. I got what I wanted in the end!
I know this isn't the thread for this, and I said it a week or so ago on another thread.
I went into Indigo, my big bookstore, a week ago to see if I could get the hardback before the store opens at 9AM on May 4. When D&G came out last year, I went in on release morning only to find that they had been selling it for a few days already. The bookstore guy told me this week that if they have a book in stock they can sell it before the release date unless there is some kind of restriction on it, like for Harry Potter. As he was reading the screen he said, Oh wait, there is a restriction on DITF. Absolutely no sales before the store opens on the 4th. They can't even sell the book at midnight.
I wonder if the "no selling at midnight" applies to online retailers too. That would totally BLOW!!! I was looking forward to downloading and reading it at midnight.
Judy, there is a big discussion about this over on the Sony or Kindle thread.
Shema, I know. *wink*
Oh, of course. I forgot you posted info over there, sorry.
Hehee. No worries. We're all so very anxious. I can't think about anything else. Really I need to find a way to keep myself really busy. I even have the latest BDB book and I keep putting it down to find out updates about DITF.
I have committed to reading all 9 books before the 4th. Partially to refresh my memory and more so to keep busy.
Lovely ladies lets move any convo into Random Thoughts thread...we'll save this one for general Info, announcements & intros.
Hi mates, my name is Emma. I'm from Australia am 27 and have two kiddes 3 and 1. Every moment I get to spare I'm reading the sookie stackhouse novels.... Or just day dreaming about eric ooh swoon....

Hello Everyone; new to posting on this forum but I have a confession...I've been lurking here for months following this wonderful forum! Love it.![]()
Welcome, Susan! I was a lurker for a while before I joined up, but I only held out for a couple of weeks... I'm not so good with the willpower!!
I lurked for almost six months. I had already been burned at another Sookieverse forum and was reluctant to try again. I'm so glad I did.
Hey everyone, I broke my laptop so I was wiht out a computer for a VERY long time...but I am back (AGAIN) ~Ashley
Ashley, welcome back! So sorry about the laptop! It is so good to see you!
Oh, Ashley! I've missed you!
Thanks for the welcome everyone. I lurked for a while but geez have to say there was quite of bit of reading to do and it took me a while! LOL
There's a lot of intelligent discussion here and well worth the read. Welcome.
There's a lot of intelligent discussion here and well worth the read. Welcome
And some not-too-intelligent discussion that is LIKEWISE well worth the read!
and by that I am referring to our waxing poetic about arm porn, butt dimples, pork pancakes, etc.
Oh, and the TB vs Twilight who would win discussion where Eric flies overhead around throwing condoms at warp speed down at the Edward
and mocks him for his celibacy.
Swedish meatballs too!
OMG! THe tissues! Heck how could I forgotten already??
I am writing those tissues into a story. I swear.
HAHA!! The infamous tissue discussion!
Oh, and the TB vs Twilight who would win discussion where Eric flies overhead around throwing condoms at warp speed down at the Edward
I freaking loved that conversation! So funny.
hahah ..... hearing "can you pass me a tissue?" will never be the same again!! LOL
OMG. I really LOVE the idea of Eric using Alcide's bed to just jerk off and then just leaving all these used tissues. That is truly the ultimate in highhandedness. LOL.
And Alcide. I almost feel bad for him. What a tool. To be beholden so much to Eric you must comply with the dude's request to use your bed and soil your sheets.
I love it.
ahahah!!! lmao wow that would be awesome
LMAO! I love where these conversations go sometimes!
Yesterday I read a tissue comment on another board (can't remember which
, because I was having an orgy of reading after getting back from a few days away and having missed the first episode discussion). It related to Sookie standing trying not to look at the recently 'vigorously' in use GP which would have been almost under her nose, (so to speak lol) and said that any polite southern lady worth her salt would have offered the man a tissue, which cracked me up completely.
Ha ha ha ha.
LMBO!!!
That's fantastic. So brilliant.
Hi Everyone,
I'm Lori, 44, married, no kids (on purpose), lots of animals, 4 horses, 1 dog, too many cats. We live in KY just moved back from TX, originally from SD. What else. I watched the first season of True Blood and then ripped through all of the books in 10 days. Since then I've been reading this forum religiously and re-reading the books. I have really enjoyed lurking for months actually. I had an original thought this morning in the shower and thought I would share. At least I think it may be original, I have not seen it posted--I think I've read at least 50 percent of all the discussions. I'm going to go through the topics and see if I can figure out where to post.
Welcome Lori! Look forward to reading your posts.
hey guys, there's a vampire digital picture book that we can order for the benefit of the Choroideremia Research Foundation. deborah ann woll is in it. check out her beautiful pic: http://www.trueblood-news.com/vampire-digital-picture-book-to-benefit-the-chm

Gorgeous pic, but I don't think it's DAW ... at least the face doesn't look anything like her to me?
come to think, Liann, she looks more like ERW. haha.
Well that's the disease that DAW's bf has, so I guess it is supposed to be her.
I don't think any of the pics are of her by the look of the featured pics, it's just that the photographer has agreed to give some of the money to the charity.
Hello All
I am Natalie, I'm 22 and I live in England. I cottoned onto True Blood when it aired here and like the bookworm I am, I tracked down the Charlaine Harris novels and finished them in little over a week as I loved them even more than the show. Needless to say I am addicted! These novels have turned me into a (proud) geek! Too impatient to wait for True Blood to air in the UK, I watch S3 via Megavideo every Monday evening. I have never joined a forum before but I came across this site months ago and kept coming back to it, just to acquire spoilers and different intrepretations of the text, so after enjoying everyones posts for so long I thought I may as well take part!
I appreciate all of Charlaine Harris' characters but my hands-down favourite is Eric. I may also be a little in love with ASkars, but it is a healthy obsession. . .so far!
Anyway, that is about all I have to say. . .essay over (!) but look forward to discussing the books/True Blood with you all! xX
Hello! I am Kiera, 36, from Pittsburgh, PA. I have read all of the Stackhouse books (several times
) and am glad to be able to have informed discussions of both the books and True Blood. My husband says I am obsessed...I guess that is true. I am a big fan of Eric and Pam.
See you in the threads! v--v
Hi everyone
New to the Forum. I've enjoyed reading all your comments and thought it was time to join. I'm obsessed with the books!!
Welcome ladies! Hope you enjoy.
Thanks for the welcome! I have been reading the posts since before D&G was released and thought it was time to join. It's nice to be able to join the discussion as I have enjoyed all your posts.
On CH website is has some information bout book realeases and CD is there twice as well as DAG to be realeased again later this year? Im confused? http://www.charlaineharris.com/calendar.html someone have a look and help me...Please ![]()
I haven't had a good look, but the books are re-released with different covers, different formats eg. trade paperback. I think this is what this is.
ooohhh thank you ! ![]()
Wouldn't it be great if she re-released DAG with the ORIGINAL ending? LOL
Yeah! Then DAG should have been known as "Kill Bill." Wishful thinking. Sigh.
For the Alcide fans out there, you might want to check this out: http://true-blood.net/2010/08/13/enter-to-win-a-herveaux-contracting-shirt/

ERW, is that you?!
Hello
I'm Megan and new. I have been reading through all the post and really enjoy them. I love all of the books and I'm warning people in advance that I'm a really bad speller.![]()
Megan, you can add Google's spell checker to your toolbar. That's what I do since I'm anal-retentive. ![]()
thanks I'm definitely going to do that.
BTW, welcome!
Hi All,
Hello! Long time reader of your site and the series. I live in Madison, WI and am 30, married and a new mom...I guess that makes me exhausted too. I've read the books in the series a more than a couple times - and some of the books more than others. The only other author I have as many repeat reads with is Jane Austen - there's just something about that Mr. Darcy.
The Sookie series is my guilty pleasure (some might say my obsession) - there's just something about that Mr. Northman.
Looking forward to being on the site and feel like I know some of you from reading your posts for over a year!
Welcome, and congratulations on being a new mom!
Welcome Tatiana
Welcome Tatina! I'm with you on both Mr. Northman and Mr. Darcy.
Welcome Tatina! Congratulations on your newborn!
Maybe, but you've also managed to alienate all of us by insulting us right off the bat. We are fond of Eric, but that doesn't mean we are suffering from blind emotion and Eric obsession. You don't join a forum and insult the prevailing opinion of the posters. We aren't all that fond of Bill here and that isn't going to change. We do have very intelligent discussion here. It all depends if you want to engage without insulting us.
You can post at CH's website if you want more Bill love, although the discussion there is not all that intelligent.
You made a post that attacked Eric, ignoring his positive virtues, and glossed over Bill's issues. You even made a point about Bill being a family man, despite the fact that Eric was too. The post was all about Bill, we didn't need to ask you your opinion. We were fine with just countering that until you told us that we were following blind emotion and were Eric obsessed. That wasn't an insult?
If you want to read about Eric's family, read DAG. It's in there. And I wouldn't call his transformation dramatic (as in all of a sudden and unrealistic) - it encompasses 10 books.
This discussion doesn't belong in this thread. Please move it elsewhere if anyone chooses to respond. Or better yet...don't respond. As Laura said, you know the drill.
Hi all....My name is Debbie and I'm 40. Love the Sookie series. Had started watching the TB series and liked first season...2nd season not as much and haven't picked up on 3rd but will before season 4 ...because well...book 4. I've re-read the books a few times. I love this forum and how detailed you all get in picking the books apart. I've had many of the same ?'s and thoughts. I find that even the last few books that I initially was not as gaga over...I appreciate so much more after a reread as I pick up on little things. Happy to be here. Like everyone...waiting a YEAR for another book is gonna be hard. Any thoughts if CH reads this forum? Its one of the better ones I've come across with interesting discussion. Can't wait to see how Sookie goes after QoO to fight for Eric. Ahhhh...Eric![]()
Hey Debbie. Welcome, welcome.
Hope you enjoy.
Well I don't think she reads it but for a long time we've had the people who on on her forum come over here to police then troll & report back over there certain things. Attack of the Rival forums! A ha!
Nah but she has her own gig there & I think she hears things about us but I don't imagine she reads the forum.
Well I'd say report back all they want. There is intelligent convo going on in this forum and I love some of the speculation. Makes me want to reread the books again just to pay more attention. I'm sure regardless CH couldn't help but be pleased that we are so enamored of her characters. I'm enjoying reading thru the forums....I'm make notes for my re-reads...![]()
Hi gang...I'm Kat!
I was referred here by Mari, after trying to lure her into an intelligent discussion of Book 11. When I checked this place out, I felt like I'd found exactly what I was looking for...not over-emotional / mildly hysterical fangirl posts, but really well thought out and speculative posts about DR. So, thanks, Mari!
As for what I bring to the table in this fandom, I don't exactly write fic and I don't exactly do fanart. I do produce a rather tongue-in-cheek photo-fic based on SVM, which I call "SVM: Drop Dead Gorgeous." I use Pullip and TaeYang dolls for my characters (so far, we have only seen Eric, Sookie and Pam, though I have a Bill, a Quinn, a Jason, a Claudine, and a whole bunch of extraneous others). It's very silly, but I do love doing it.
At this point, I've put out two "Episodes" and have been struggling to produce Episode 3 (my photo skills are mediocre at best). I'm including the links in case anyone wants to see it, but please recognize that this is pretty loosely based on SVM, is not meant to be taken seriously at all, and is just plain silly. So please don't flame me! ;-p
I'm looking forward to reading all sorts of good stuff here. Nice to meet you all!
Wow Kat! Well 1st...welcome. Those are really cute & hilarious but also very creative. You should get that over to CH. I bet (well, not knowing the lady) but I bet she would love that. She's promoted some fan made screen savers & such.
I have to ask in the Prologue...I noticed the picture in the background changing...who was the couple & then who was the girl on the swing?
How long does it take you to do all of this?! Do you have a script/story before hand?

Thank you! ^_^

Oh, no!!! As I understand it, she's not so fond of fanfic, nevermind photos of her characters, too! I'd be afraid she'd sue me for copyright infringement (which is,of course, not at all intended)! But that is a really, really nice compliment...thank you!

Those are photos another collector made...beautiful, aren't they? I asked her permission to use them in my doll cabinet, and she was cool with that. We can pretend, for the sake of the story, that they are Sookie's family photos (I never gave it any thought, actually)! My eight year old son proposed that I use only photos of dolls in the house, to make it seem more realistic, and as if the human world does not exist! I thought it was a great idea!

Haha, it takes me a long time!!!
Customizing the dolls took a while (I have changed out their eyes for more life-like glass ones, changed their wigs [but refused to make Pam blond, because it would have made my doll collection look like an Aryan Nation meeting!], gave Pam and Sookie very poseable, bustier bodies with changeable hands). I really enjoyed the process!
Setting up the rooms took a long while, too...craft stores and Ebay became my best friends for a while there. I had to make the bar in Fangtasia from scratch, since Mattel doesn't seem to promote Barbie as much of a drinker! The liquor cabinets were spray painted to suit the setting, as were the bar stools. Scrapbook paper and dollhouse trim on the "walls" (my doll cabinet is a giant Ikea glass-fronted cabinet) was pretty quick once I found the right designs.
I do work with a script that I obsessive over endlessly for each Episode. First the writing, then the "stage directions" for posing, then getting the dolls dressed for photographs, and to the cabinet with camera I go! As I said, I'm not a good photographer, so I take many, many photos for each shot until I get the look I'm envisioning. Each Episode has a little over 30 photos, so it is very realistic to imagine that I take about 400 photos for each episode, and weed through them. Then cropping with Photoshop and posting to Photobucket for easy internet access...whew! Photographically-speaking, it takes several days to get one episode ready to go!
It's a bunch of work, but I really love it. By the time I post the Episode, it's so familiar to me that it's no longer funny! However, once I read the reactions from others, I laugh at it all over again. It's well worth it to me!
Thanks for the nice welcome!!!
Those dolls are amazing. I like the little details in the back ground. Pictures, books, and the glasses in the bar. Do you glue all the knick knacks down? How big are the dolls btw? Where did you find little fangs? lol
Hi Kat btw.
Hi, fffbone!
Thanks for the welcome and the kind words!
The accessories are all loose, which makes it a giant PITA when one of the dolls topples over during a shoot!
The fangs came from a set of vampire dolls, and I was SO happy to be able to get my hands on them, especially after trying to make them myself! After all, what would vampire dolls be without fangs?!?
Hi Kat! More good press! Thanks! LOL. Welcome! Glad you joined!
Hey! Sorry it took me a while to find the right thread, because I didn't see the search box.... I promise I'm smart haha. My name is Cara and I live in Michigan (for the summer), but go to the University of Alabama for nursing. I have a serious problem with these books, I love them and have read them multiple times. SERIOUS Eric fan, so this is for sure a place for me.
Welcome to the forum, Cara.
How-do! I'm an urban fantasy fanatic from Atlanta. I'm always looking for the next great books. My favorite authors are Mira Grant, Catherynne Valente, J M McDermott, Ekaterina Sedia, P. N. Elrod, and (of course!) Charlaine Harris!
All right, I admit I like some of the serious stuff, but I like fluff too! Sometimes you want steak, sometimes you just want some chocolate, right?
Hello everyone!
PS Eric is Hot.
