It's that time of the year again!!![]()
Serena Williams has already won her first round match. Woo hoo!
Draws are here
I haven't looked through them yet. Quick look says Safin has a tough draw![]()
As does Djokovic by the looks of it
Yeah there's a lot to look at in the mens draws.
I've watched a bit on Ch 7 and saw Justine Henin def Aiko Nakamura 6-2, 6-2.
Game now in progress is Andy Roddick V Lukas Dluahy.
Roddick leads, 6-3, 6-4, and 3-2 in the third set. Dluahy appears to have forgotten how to serve, (he is having heaps of double faults).
hahahaha Forgotten how to serve! hahahaha
Am watching Molik v Kanepi
She started off very shaky, but took the first set.
Oh! I've just found out that Andy Murray is out in the first round!
Oh Wow! Davenport is playing, and she won!!
I like her![]()
Unfortunately, looks like she'll be meeting Sharapova in the next round![]()
Yeah I've been watching a bit on Ch 7.
Just watched Lleyton Hewitt thrash Steve Darcis of Belguim 6-0, 6-3, 6-0.
Hewitt looked good, but that was prob because Darcis appeared to be overwhelmed by the experience. (his first on a centre court).
I am glad that Alicia Molik won, as she has had a rough time of it the last couple of years and is still not playing at her best.
I note also that Marcos Baghdatis def Thomas Johansson of Sweden.
Bummer.... so lleyton is through to the next round eh?
Do you know how Djokovic did? I recall him having a match today
Djokovic def Benjamin Becker, 6-0, 6-2, 7-6.
Looks like Becker put up a fight in the last set.
Woo hoo!!
C'mon Djokovic!! I wanna see him in the final![]()
Watching Federer now. He's as sharp tonight as I've ever seen him
I've been trying to put myself in the shoes of a player who looks at the draw on the day it is released only to find his first round opponent is Roger....
It's just cruel isn't it?
Yep, You've just got to hope that he has a bad day and you have one of your best days.
hahaha yeah....
But then, as far as I've seen, he's won on his bad days too
That's true! ![]()
Davenport and Sharapova on now.
C'mon Lindsay!!!
Ok, so now Davenport and Alesha are out of it.![]()
Yeah, I was surprised at Molik!
Wished it wasn't so one sided for Davenport though
Tomorrow - Safin!!!!
Against Baghdatis.... I'm scared for Safin!
I rather like Baghdatis, he's fun. (but Safin's ok too)
Safin HAS to win!!
Why???
Cos I support him and wanna see him do well![]()
Hey, what you laughing at??
Cos you always like the good looking guys. ![]()
Hrrrmph!
Not my fault that I have good taste!
![]()
hehehehe
GAH!!! I can't watch!
He lost the first set, got broken early in the second one, broke back, and now just saved two break points!

Gosh! It's turning into a cracker of a match!
Can't believe Marat lost it in the 5th after playing so well in the 3rd and 4th sets! grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Yeah, it was a good match, there were some unbelievable returns from both of them.
Safin put in some brilliant serves as well.
Anyway, Justine won this morning, even though she's not exactly in top form.
Yeah, I saw her struggle in the second
Looks like Nadal had a slow start, but he's hanging on, fighting for the 1st set
Me not a fan of Rafa.![]()
I don't mind him...
A ha! looks like he picked up. Leading 2 sets to 0 now
I see that Nadal won his match, aaannnnnnndd......................
Casey Dellacqua.............def...........Amelie Mauresmo.........
Woohoo ![]()
![]()
![]()
Now, after Ponting and Hussey both score double centuries tomorrow.....................................
grrrrrrr Can't believe Mauresmo lost that one.
And Roddick lost too! I fell asleep, but it seems the match went till 2 am!
Oh!! And ponting just got out!!! WHAHAHAHA
Grrrrr........................................
hehehhe
Oh wow! This is turning into a tournament of upsets.... Kuznetsova lost too!
Yeah, and Hewitt and Baghdatis play later today.
I don't think Lleyton is playing good enough to beat Marcos.
Casey Dellacqua seems to have been around for ages, but she will only be 23 next month.
Maybe it just seems a long time, because she usually goes out in the first round.
I had never heard of her before.... not in any mention by the Aussie media even
Blake just won against Grosjean
Yay!
Maybe you don't follow the Aussies as closely as me? Yet![]()
Yeah, I like Blake
Well, once they get famous, the media will be ramming them down our throats, so I haven't seen a need to![]()
Casey didn't get much press, because she only ever played one game per tournament (when she was allowed to play) and she never had any sponsors.
Apparently she has picked up some sponsors in the last few days.
Good for her![]()
WHOA!
Tipsarevic took the first set against Federer!![]()
Well done!
Oops, ya gotta watch those Serbs....
grrrrr both ch 9 and 7 have gone to the news.
Who needs news anyways?!
It's ok in Qld....
(for another hour)
![]()
Venus & Sanya Mirza play tonight.
C'mon Sanya!!!
C'mon Venus!!!
That's not very patriotic of you??
You should know I don't support based on that![]()
![]()
![]()
See, I'm fair!
Hmmm.......
Federer squeaked past Tipsarevic. What a pity for Jarko - he played a great game!
Venus v Mirza now, and Sania started really well! Looks like she's becoming a bit cautious now.... Venus looked very out of sorts at the beginning, like she wasn't feeling very well
Federer had a very tough match.
Hewett also had a big one to defeat Baghdatis, I went to bed about 2.00am, but apparently it didn't finish till after 4.00am.
Venus def Sanya also.![]()
Although it looks like Sanya gave her a run for her money in the first set.
Yeah, she started off well, but then just faded.
The Federer match was a good one to watch.
I didn't watch the Hewitt one at all. Dozed off.
I wonder if anyone has ever told Hewett, that the peak of his cap is there to shade his eyes, and that he wears clothes that are two sizes too large for him???
Obviously his Mum must think that it is a good look, or she would say something.(she seems to be at all his matches).
That's just Hewitt.... nothing appealing about him
I watched a repeat of the last couple of sets of the Hewett/Baghdatis match last night, and I found it annoying, that before either serving or receiving, he always had to adjust his pants and pull the shoulders of his shirt up onto his shoulders.
It's not a good look. (but then maybe I'm just an old fart)![]()
I just think that he'd save himself a lot of hassle if he bought clothes that fitted him. All that sweaty (excess) clothing flapping around must affect your play in the long term.
But that's exactly what I dislike about him... that he's so figety... UGH!!
He's developed all these little quirks as part of his service motion, and it's regardless of his clothing. (I remember there was once we was wearing a different style shirt, and he was still doing the same thing!)
There are lots of players who have these quirks, repetitions (Sharapova for eg) but Hewitt is just unbearable.
It's just an overall displeasure watching him. And I haven't even brought up the yelling or talking to his 'box'
Yeah, why can't we produce another, Ken Rosewall, Rod Laver, or even in recent times a Pat Rafter?
These people were the best in the world, but all they did was play tennis without any bullshit attached.
When calls went against them there was no reaction from them, they just prepared to play the next point.
I think that Jimmy Connors started this 'brat crap' behaviour. (at least he's the first one that I remember carrying on like that)
I once met Rod Laver and Roy Emerson, and two nicer people you couldn't hope to meet.
Yeah, I agree.... I think Pat Rafter was the last good/great Aussie on the men's tour. I miss him!
I think Hewitt is a spoilt child. He's been spoilt by all the yes-people that seem to be around him all the time, and in this I include the greater aussie tennis community - Newcombe, Stolle and co. These guys have defended him when they should have stood up and made him take responsibility.
You'll get no argument from me on that one deezee.
![]()
Finally! Someone who agrees with me!
Speaking of Hewitt, as I said, I avoid watching it, but I've just realised he's playing Djokovic! And I'm a big fan of Novak![]()
Guess who I'll be rooting for?![]()
*dancing madly*
Woo HOOO!!!! Djokovic won!!!![]()
I few scary moments in the last two games, but he played an excellent excellent match. It's amazing how fast this guy has come up.
Whoa...looks like Jankovic beat Serena!!
Bummer for Serena, but WOO HOO For Jelena!![]()
Good on you Jankovic, well done. (actually I like Venus better, she's not so "In your face"). ![]()
I like em both
Hewitt lost to Djokovic, as was expected and it was nice to see him not blaming the 5 setter he played that morning, but it had to have some effect on him.
Justine Henin plays Maria Sharapova tonight.
C'mon Justine
Meh.... don't quite support either of them....
![]()
Wow Maria beat Justine in straight sets
.
Justine appeared as if she wanted to be somewhere else. (anywhere but on the court).
Yeah
Oh, and I just found out that Ivanovic beat Venus!
The young 'uns are coming good!
And Hantuchova beat Radwanska in straight sets.
This could end up a Sharapova-Hantuchova final?
Hmmm... maybe....
But I'm thinking it's gonna be an all-rookie final
This could end up a Sharapova-Hantuchova final?
Actually, what I meant to say was "This could end up a Sharapova-Ivanovic final?
Although I am keeping my options open on Hantuchova.
Yeah, she seems to have improved a lot. Then again, so has Ivanovic.
And then there's still Jankovic!
Yes, Jankovic cannot be ruled out. (I forgot to mention her)![]()
LOL!
i've just heard that Shaparova beat Jankovic.
Shame to see Jankovic go, but she did well to get this far
Yeah its a pity, she was trying hard and I was starting to enjoy her determination.
Yeah...
This is excellent!! Tsonga has just taken the first set against Nadal!
Oooooh! Tsonga is sharp tonight!
He's reminding me of Pete Sampras
(in terms of his serve and his crisp shots)
{I so hope it's a Djokovic v Tsonga final. I wouldn't know who to support, but it'd be a cracker of a match!}
I watched the Tsonga Rafa match, and Tsonga didn't just beat Nadal, he embarassed him.
Nadal had no answer to Tsonga's Serve and power play.
I reckon that Federer and Djokovic would have watched it with some aprehension of things to come.
We will see tonight whether it's Federer or Djokovic who will have to face him, but Federer has not been really convincing in his matches so far.
I also watched the Ivanovic Hantuchova semi and congratulate Ana on her win, but is she good enough to beat Maria??
My picks for the final are :- Tsonga and Sharapova...
Yeah, I had my doubts abt Ana until I saw her play in the semis... She did really well to not only dig herself out of a hole, but to win the match!
You're absolutely right about Tsonga embarrassing Nadal.
I wonder if he could provide the same against Federer.
I do think however, that he would play freer against Novak.
Poor novak having to play federer tonight.... If anyone can beat Fed, I do believe he can.
Just got home to see that Novak's taken the first set! Woo hoo!!
And he's one point away from leading 4-1 in the 2nd!!
He's done it!!!![]()
He takes the second set! This is great!!
He served for the match once, got broken ('twice' thanks to Hawkeye) and came back and did it second time around.
Cracker of a 3rd set....
OMD!!!! DJOKOVIC WON!!!
I got my wish!!
Djokovic v Tsonga final! Amazing.....
This is excellent stuff!
On Sunday, Djokovic will win his first Grand Slam title.... You heard it here first
mmm hmmm... yes *nods earnestly*
Yeah deezee, I watched it it was great.
I was sorry to see Federer beaten, but Djokovic played some great tennis. (especially his serves).
It's going to be a cracker of a final, with two power serving players up against each other.
I don't really mind which one of them wins it, but I am sticking with my prediction of Tsonga.![]()
There must be some disease going around the top tennis players this year, as both Justine Henin and Roger Federer were only mere shadows of their former selves. (well that's how it appeared to me).
Roger wasn't too bad, but for once he was against a player who didn't let him in at all. Novak kept his level up all the time. He had one slip when serving for the 2nd set the first time, but he didn't buckle the second time, which is an excellent testament to his mental strength. That could have been the turning point of the match
The women's final is on now, and I can't believe they're having it at 1pm in summer!!!
Stinks of blatant sexism to me. What? A women's final can't be on at prime time??
Maria won. Good on her![]()
Am a bit disappointed that Anna seemed to be overwhelmed by the occasion.... I know it's big, but she did so well just to get there.
I was a bit disappointed with Ana's performance as well, but I suppose it was a big ask of her considering how well Maria has been playing.
Stinks of blatant sexism to me. What? A women's final can't be on at prime time??
I think you may find that the timing of the match was more to do with TV programming, than sexism. (but I dont really know)
I guess 1.00pm on a Sat arvo may be considered prime time (for a sports telecast), but it certainly shows little respect for the comfort and well being of the players and spectators.
I can't wait for tonight's final!
C'mon Tsonga!
It is sexism... it's not like they had to cover anything else in the evening. Why wasn't the men's in the afternoon then?
Anyways, watching the men's final now...
Tsonga looks like he might get the better of Novak. He's really sharp, and Djokovic is struggling.![]()
I hope he can pick up.... and soon!
W00T!!
Guess who's coming back as the defending champion next year?!![]()
What a match! *phew*
Score?
4-6 6-4 6-3 7-6
Well congrats Djokovic, well played, you won the match but you didn't win any friends.
How about you stop giving everyone the shits with your incessant ball bouncing, and stop shaking your fist like a schoolboy and stop poking ridiculous faces and pointing at people.
Damn. I thought he had a chance.
LOL! Andro, he wasn't that bad...
Synapse, he played brilliantly... definitely had a chance
He received a time violation in his match against Federer for that bloody ball bouncing, and you could see Tsonger complaining to the umpire about it, but he did nothing about it.
Every time he was under pressure on his serve he did it to put the other player off. IT'S AGAINST THE BLOODY RULES!
It is, and they can jolly well penalise him for it.
I counted 14 bounces sometimes.![]()
He's not the only player who does that. (Not just the ball bouncing, but the taking his time when under the gun)
I know he's not, but that bloody ball bouncing gave me the shits the other night, and it was worse tonight.
I wouldn't have been surprised if the crowd had reacted more than they did.
I couldn't understand why the crowd was so against him from the very start!
Some of their reactions were very uncalled for, and the situation just escalated from there. Novak should have kept his cool though
I couldn't understand why the crowd was so against him from the very start!
He bitched about the crowd after the Federer match, and claimed that he had to play the crowd as well as Federer. (what a way to get them on side)![]()
Ahhh... I see...
On about one of his 14+ bounces someone yelled out "Just hit the bloody thing" and Djokovic said to the umpire "Aren't you going to tell them to be quiet". The crowd really loved him after that.
He's obviously getting lessons on crowd taming from Lleyton &Co.
I do think the pressure got to him. He needs to learn to block them out.
To his credit, he's one of the nicer guys on tour (from what I can tell)
I'd say that Tsonga seems nicer and seems to also have a better temperament.
He does. He seems very good-natured![]()
I have to agree with you Synapse.
I wasn't impressed when Djokovic said (after beating Federer), "I am very proud of myself" and "I played very good tennis"!
That may be true, but it is not for him to say it. His parents should have taught him some manners.
Of course, the crowd would have been right behind Tsonga as the underdog, and considering the dream run he's had. In one tournament, he's already doubled the earnings he made last year.
Yeah...
Here's hoping for bigger and better stuff from Tsonga!
And here's hoping that deezee is not too upset by what I said about Djokovic![]()
Soweeee
HAHAHAH Not upset at all!! Really!
You're entitled to your opinion, and it was interesting seeing it from another point of view. I still remain an ardent Novak supporter![]()
Variety, spice, life and all that. We're cool.![]()
Course we are...........
