This is probably not your fault, but in the new public beta for mac when clicking a topic Safari crashes. Again, it's beta on both ends so understanable.

Safari has been getting hell on Digg.com, apparently it's a huge resource hog and not even worth your time.  I must say, with as many extensions I have installed on Firefox, I don't think Safari has a chance for me personally, and I'm sure this is the same for a good portion of everyone.  This isn't really directed at you Fresh, as I'm sure you were just testing it, this is just letting everyone else know:)

Yeah I agree. I love firefox becaus eof it's plugin base. Safari is too... vanilla. for me. but some of that heat is soooo undeserved, It is beta software, of course there are shortcomings, blah blah blah. On mac safari 2 is definitely the fastest (resource wise and rendering wise) but again, it is far too kocher for me.

I love firefox, but after trying out the new Safari, I don't notice much resource hogging and the pages load FAR faster than with firefox. (I do have quite a few extensions installed though).

The crash happens to me using Safari 3 beta in osx. Im using firefox now so that I can even post this. Interesting bug to say the least. I miss saft for safari.

I'm playing with safari 3 beta on vista and it's crashed a few times, but it's suprisingly good... and um... i hate to say it.... well i dont really... but man it is very fast. Cuts maybe 20-40% of all page load times over firefox.

    2007-06-14 10:41:02.0

Yeah it really is fast, but all this negativity is just uncalled for, it's a beta; of course it isnt perfect.

I think its funny when people say its slower, well at that point its a perception of the time it takes for a page to download first. Safari is faster than IE and FF when it comes to rendering html and javascript hands down, but when you add in the network overhead of actually downloading the content it can be slower or faster. So people assume its slower because probably they load up a page and its not cached yet like it is on their default browser so it doesnt load fast. Apple reported that in 48 hours around 1 million versions of safari 3 beta have been downloaded.

I'm still having consistent issues with Tangler and Safari 3. I'm not having trouble with other site. I suspect it's something to do with how the new browser is handling JS. Whether it's correct or not, I'm not so sure...

    2007-06-23 01:30:10.0

Yeah I cant use it with Tangler.

New release is working much better with Safari - no crashes:)

    2007-07-05 20:40:48.0

The iPhone Safari still doesn't work for me. Crashes the browser every time. However, the new version works on Safari 3 on the computer very well.

    2007-07-06 16:08:00.0

Except the edit feature doesn't work for me (if you want to go back and edit a message)

    2007-07-06 16:08:45.0

Glad to hear. Looks like we may have reason to get an iPhone in the office - you know, for testing purposes;)

    2007-07-06 19:09:09.0

As we'll be pluging in an updated editor in the next release, we'll take another look at the edit feature on Safari

There are other issues Ive found with safari. The biggest one being that when I try to goto a group from the Recent Activity dropdown, sometimes it doesn't actually load the new group fully. It loads the title but not the topics. To actually force it through, I end up having to click the actual link to the group to force the load. That and the edit function doesn't work.

    2007-07-06 19:24:16.0

Apple issued an updated Safari, which is now more stable and fixed some bugs. Safari 3.03 is better now and I can use it on everything now, after I downloaded it there have been no crashes when trying to use Tangler Laughing

Not sure if this is related to Safari or Safari 3, but in the "Recent Activity" menu at the top I have difficulty clicking the one remaining item in my "Watched Groups" list because the clickable space is only 1 pixel tall.

    2007-10-09 20:44:39.0

@Lexiphanic - Do you happen to have a screenshot you could post?

    2007-10-14 16:20:26.0

It doesn't show in the picture, but my mouse cursor is directly over the words.

Also you can see where below "Watched Topics" the title of the thread is covering the menu.

I see this same "wrong z-index" effect in Opera 9.50b1 [in Linux].

    2007-11-22 12:57:54.0

    Cool. Thanks Pistos!

    2007-11-22 13:01:52.0

Same thing on Firefox 3 as well. Strange coincidence or maybe a closer adherence to a standard that is showing up a bug.

    2007-11-22 16:13:49.0

Also related: The Recent Activity items, the clickable hotspot is only a few pixels tall.  I have to mouse it exactly in order to click it.  Possibly this has to do with only the <tr> or whatever being clickable, but the <span> or something in the <td> is not... so I can only click on the border.  Or something.  Check it out.

    2007-11-23 17:18:44.0

    (Opera, BTW)

    2007-11-23 17:18:51.0

Hey all, need your collective help.

Could you guys verify for me that this one-pixel clickable area thing is fixed? I tried on Safari (Win) and it works fine for me. Anyone else?

    2008-03-27 22:48:11.0

This was fixed a long time ago [in Opera].  Months, or something.

    2008-03-28 10:35:16.0

Yeah, the new menus would have done it. Just needed a confirmation.

    Thank you!
