It's taken a while but this is finally released. Now Windows users are on very similar versions with the Mac and Linux users. You'll see your Notifier either downloading this automatically as you start up the Notifier or while you're still logged into Tangler. Please be patient, there's no need to go download the full setup again.
NOTE VISTA USERS, you will need to run the Notifier as administrator for the upgrade to proceed. Otherwise it will just download and do nothing. Sorry but the current version of Notifier on Vista was never given a full test on Vista when it was written at the time. Future versions will warn you of not having admin rights before it downloads. To get admin rights, simply right click the Notifier link in the start menu and choose "run as administrator"
Is 0.1.4.4 the latest? (I'm running vista with UAC disabled)
Yes it is.
OK. Then it updates nicely with UAC off.
Yep, I forgot to mention that. If you have UAC turned off (which is NOT the default setting in Vista) then it should upgrade without any issues.
I seem to have a minor problem with the notifier on Vista, in that I need to pull it from the program list and launch it each visit.
Is this me?
It is set to start automatically.
Do you mean it's not auto starting up when you boot up Vista?
Yes.
It is version 0.1.4.4 If that helps
Ok I've seen this issue before on some Vista installations. Try unticking the box and click ok then go back in and retick it.
Erm...I 'm sorry, which box.
Sorry , again, do you mean the web presence box?
Sorry I wasn't clear enough. In the Notifier preferences, general tab, there is a box there that says "Start Tangler automatically when my computer starts". Untick that, click ok. Then go back in and retick it.
OK. That seems to have fixed that.....
[edit] thanks
Next problem: I/we use Firefox, If I get a notification, and I click it, it opens a new window and defaults to Internet Explorer. It also does this when I click Open Web Client. But not on other units that use XP.
Are you saying that you want it to open up with Firefox instead of Internet Explorer?
Yes.
Just to clarify, if I click on the new notification box (when I get one), it opens an Internet Explorer window and a Firefox tab would be preferable..
That is what you've set the default browser to be in Vista. To change this, just open up Firefox and it should by default ask you if you want this to be the default browser. If it doesn't then you can simply look for the setting inside the Firefox preferences.
Ahhh...thanks. I had thought I'd set it for the Vista units.
(idiot that I am
)
No problems![]()
New features in this latest release of the notifier -
Vista compatibility was probably the biggest fix of them all.
