I decided today to investigate the Tangler Notifier, which I know only through word of mouth.  After investigating "Home", "Help",  "Account", "Search", and finally back to "Home", I eventually noticed that it was down at the bottom of the member Home page, visible only after scrolling down.

Might I suggest it be made easier to find?  Perhaps somewhere prominent on the page you see when you click on Help.  In fact, if you want it to be even more popular, having its own entry on the main menu bar (Home, Search, Groups, Contacts, etc.) might be fitting.

That's a great idea!

The notifier is prominently promoted when someone signs up.... that said, I can see how one might put it off and decide to install it later. However, I don't think a 'Notifier' option in the main menu bar fits.
We could look at making it more prominent on the home page instead

 

how about we advertise the notifier to the users if they have never run the notifier before

Since we're talking about the notifier... it would be tres nifty if I didn't have to manually clear the new message indicator all the time.  You're already making me hit your server to check for unread messages, I hardly see it as much more work to see that said unread messages have become read.

On another note: Any thoughts of opening up the source code for this?  (Though, I'd prefer an API, and code a fresh one up myself.)
 

I'm not sure I understand the issue Pistos. Are you saying that the new message indicator isn't being cleared automatically? It should be resetting everytime you click on the recent activity menu on your browser. Is this not happening for you?

Well, I am perhaps not clicking that as often as you think people should/do.  Of course the orange background of the Recent Activity clears as needed.  I meant the system tray icon still says shows the "unread messages" icon, even after I've read everything.

Anyway, it's sort of moot, I've stopped using the notifier.

Well just to be clear, if you click on the recent activity menu, both the yellow indicator on the menu AND the blue new message icon on the notifier will disappear. If this does not happen then there is a bug and we need to know how to reproduce it so it can be fixed. But I've done this over and over just now and it is clearing as it should.

That being said, there is a possibility that when the blue new message icon is on the notifier even though you have no new messages to read. This is because of the way that blue new message icon is cleared. It will get into this state if you're browsing Tangler and not using the recent activity menu, this is a known issue.
