Session Topic: Productivity and Web Apps

    2007-09-17 00:05:20.0

    Morning Everyone.

    2007-09-18 09:26:36.0

    Hey ubertor!

    2007-09-18 09:26:59.0

Weak Cuban is not here; was the second reason I came. And number 1; indepth reviews by the panelist is not panning out. I hope today they ask the tougher questions.

    2007-09-18 09:28:39.0

What happened to Weak Cuban ?

    2007-09-18 09:30:30.0

meant, it was weak that Cuban did not show. He's "dancing with the stars" but will be here next year.

    2007-09-18 09:32:07.0

yup... dancing with the stars eh... lame

    2007-09-18 09:32:39.0

Peter, you get a lot of tokens yesterday?

    2007-09-18 09:34:33.0

I believe we did pretty well;)

    2007-09-18 09:34:46.0

    Morning everyone. Invite your neighbours.:)

Sorry I'm late. Taxi stood me up, then got stuck behind a broken down bus/trolley, then I got out too early...

    Sheesh

    2007-09-18 09:35:03.0

    wow - xobni.com nailed it - i am impressed!

    2007-09-18 09:35:11.0

orgoo is now presenting - one of our angel investments - hope you like it

    2007-09-18 09:35:40.0

What did you like best about inbox Clay ?

    2007-09-18 09:36:33.0

    :)

Xobni looked pretty good, but until it wins I won't believe it. Last Feb at DEMO I saw about 3 of these that looked great.

    2007-09-18 09:36:39.0

    Orgoo looks a little busy.

    2007-09-18 09:36:52.0

Orgoo looks super confusing to me. Not that we switch to Gmail for Business; I do not see us going back; especially with the offline version soon to be released.

    2007-09-18 09:43:01.0

What's this one? I'm lost already....

    App2You

    2007-09-18 09:46:22.0

So does anyone who knows me think that if I stood up my accent (Australian) would be as strong as that guy.

    2007-09-18 09:48:00.0

Ouch - loud music - who is doing audio here???

    2007-09-18 09:48:13.0

Did that just say in the Terms and Conditions "I promise not to blog screenshots"

    2007-09-18 09:50:09.0

in regards to Orgoo... i have used it, and i think they made the demo a little complex. it really is quite simple. allows you to store and manage all your email accts/ IM accts, video chat from one inbox

    2007-09-18 09:51:40.0

disclosure: i am an angel investor in orgoo so am biased;)

    2007-09-18 09:51:59.0

    i like Minti

    2007-09-18 09:53:29.0

Check out the terms on Mint....

    2007-09-18 09:53:40.0

i guess you need to import all your expenses and detail them though?

    2007-09-18 09:53:52.0

Yeah, Minti (www.minti.com) looks more fun than Mint (www.mint.com)

But Mint might make you make more money.

    2007-09-18 09:54:08.0

@mick... maybe you dont need to tick that one? :s

    2007-09-18 09:54:20.0

Mint was pretty tight! I think I'll try it out.

    2007-09-18 09:55:23.0

    yeah - i like Mint

    2007-09-18 09:55:48.0

    Yeah, Mint looks good.

    2007-09-18 09:55:52.0

Mint is a great idea... something i've toying with myself (need to get rid of those regex perl scripts to parse my statements:)

What do they say about security though? They store the login details of all your accounts?

    2007-09-18 09:56:24.0

I tried to register without ticking that box but it rejected me based on not being in beta..........

    2007-09-18 09:56:24.0

    Invite only.

    2007-09-18 09:56:27.0

i think noah kagan works for mint if you are looking for an invite...

    2007-09-18 09:57:02.0

"Truly an honour and pleasure to present to you today" - oh please.....

    Kerpoof - http://www.kerpoof.com

    2007-09-18 09:57:11.0

Mint looked pretty cool actually... value to effort ratio seemed really high

    2007-09-18 09:57:13.0

@peter - thing i liked about xobni (certainly not it's name!) is that it is all in a window pane so you dont need to keep flicking back and forth between inbox/calendar/contact list etc.

    2007-09-18 09:59:19.0

Wow! Kerpoof doing some slick 2D kids multimedia creation.

    2007-09-18 10:00:00.0

Mint is a good promise, maybe Teresa should use it for Codestr?

    2007-09-18 10:00:04.0

(she moved a "sun" around a scene and it transitioned from day to night. Sweet.

    2007-09-18 10:00:23.0

Kerpoof is perking up my interest

    2007-09-18 10:00:25.0

Why can't there be a moon during the day?

    2007-09-18 10:00:29.0

    @mintigal = exactly what i was thinking

    2007-09-18 10:00:39.0

sorry ... kerpoof is not my thing

    2007-09-18 10:00:59.0

Hehe looks like Marty's kids will be stimulated to follow the golden steps of their dad

    2007-09-18 10:01:06.0

My boys would be right into this.

    2007-09-18 10:01:08.0

    2007-09-18 10:01:32.0

yeah kids may love this - have to admit

    2007-09-18 10:01:36.0

we'll see Mr Clay Cook - especially when Codi can do better things on the computer than him

    2007-09-18 10:01:55.0

clay, i'd be worried if it was your thing:)

    2007-09-18 10:01:58.0

    2007-09-18 10:02:21.0

kids are a massive online target these days... with clubpenguin being acquired for 200M+ (from memory)

    2007-09-18 10:02:49.0

    cool - 700M - now i am interested;)

    2007-09-18 10:03:07.0

wow - Minti has a certain amount of trust with parents, so advertising or sponsorship would be cool

    2007-09-18 10:03:10.0

    User interface looks pretty good.

Yeah, kids are good, but I'm moving on to pets.

    2007-09-18 10:03:11.0

yeah, clay, do it for the kids

    2007-09-18 10:03:23.0

yeah Minti (not Mint) mums/moms would love this

    2007-09-18 10:03:35.0

yeah!!! we need a gang up ping button hehe

    2007-09-18 10:03:41.0

Online apps for pets is a completely underexploited market.

    2007-09-18 10:03:44.0

My cat keeps eating his mouse though.

    2007-09-18 10:04:04.0

Tamagochi - man when clay's niece got one, all I did was manage that thing

    2007-09-18 10:04:13.0

Okay ciao boys, am off to the other topics in TC40

    2007-09-18 10:04:47.0

KerPoof is done. Demo was pretty cool. Certainly think my kids would play with it (for 30 minutes till they move onto Lord of the Rings)

    2007-09-18 10:04:49.0

(not sure about the name though - domain names are getting hard to find eh)

    2007-09-18 10:05:10.0

WHAT ORGOO is better than XOBNI oh well

    2007-09-18 10:07:01.0

Guy Kawasaki said Xobni is a terrible name.

    2007-09-18 10:08:27.0

    He likes KerPoof the most.

    2007-09-18 10:08:35.0

    2007-09-18 10:10:00.0

Guy, Guy, Guy 15 nieces and nephews does count. But 4 kids is a lot - I think Kerpoof is a hit for Guy

    2007-09-18 10:10:08.0

    Guy to Esther "Any kids?"

    Esther "15 nephews and neices"

    Guy "That doesn't count"

    Esther "And I was one"

Guy "That was a long time ago"

    2007-09-18 10:10:10.0

Mike "Yeah, I'm gonna answer another question"

    2007-09-18 10:23:18.0

Marketing strategy is very important and needs to be clear, where you can innovate the marketing and distribution of the company

    2007-09-18 10:24:14.0

    Pic from the room;

    2007-09-18 10:24:44.0

    for Mint

    2007-09-18 10:26:57.0

this group of companies has been my favorite by far

    2007-09-18 10:27:17.0

Saving money or control - Mint.

Are people who need to save money going to get on the web and use a web app.?

    2007-09-18 10:27:28.0

    Thats a very good point

    2007-09-18 10:27:40.0

they may need a download client

    2007-09-18 10:27:51.0

Mint could cover both markets in their message.... control/management, and saving money

    2007-09-18 10:27:59.0

Mint has to work without work.

    2007-09-18 10:28:21.0

    Oh you're sooo good Clay

    2007-09-18 10:28:22.0

    clap clap i LOVE TANGLER

    2007-09-18 10:28:51.0

(I'm so hungry. Someone left a muffin on the table here, do you think I can eat it?)

    2007-09-18 10:34:11.0

    Google are launching Presentations.

    2007-09-18 10:34:15.0

I'm a bit of a power user of powerpoint though and I found Zoho too limited. Also, need to do lots of offline stuff?

Does Google Gears kick in to Google Docs yet so I can take them offline?

    2007-09-18 10:35:44.0

I asked the Google Gears question first Mike!

    2007-09-18 10:39:03.0

i like google presentation - for simple presentations and multiple users - will DEFINITELY use this.

    2007-09-18 10:41:42.0

    agree with Jason on spreadsheets

    2007-09-18 10:42:35.0

Google's presentation app doesn't seem very interesting. Seems like this is the most sparse on features of any Google Docs app.

    2007-09-18 11:02:00.0

most of these points could be applied to other online presentation apps, however. The only somewhat original thing Google has added is an abundance of Group interactivity.

    2007-09-18 11:29:24.0

I'll be giving it a try.... it seems to be trying to hit a spot between "talking head" and "group collaboration"  .... ut I'm not sure how it will work in practice.... as I posted in the announcement thread, Information Week had an interesting comment about this concept:

"This obviously limits its use to groups of friends or non-hostile coworkers."

    2007-09-18 11:46:04.0

In my volunteer life I do a lot of interactive planning and problem solving sessions so this is where I will look to seeing if its a leap forward in tools available for this use.
