OneNote! And we even have a group here on Tangler to help each other use it better!

    I use AT Notes

Its not really intended for the purpose, but I make its virtual post-its really big then set them to be hidden until the point when I need reminding

If its something urgent, the alarm function can make the note flash blue and yellow until I click on it XP

I'm actually looking for something to effectively manage my tasks/day, currently using toodledo.com (I think that's the URL)

    2007-06-01 15:15:11.0

Pen and paper, or pen and hand.....

I still haven't found something I'd use regularly

    2007-06-01 19:09:54.0

purely for to-do's, i use todoist.com.  I like it because of the simplicity

    2007-07-16 09:03:15.0

I use a pen and paper, and occassionally my white board... you'd be surprised at the efficiency of my low tech methods :P

    2007-07-16 20:33:44.0

Don't forget ink on hand - my preferred method

    hehe

    2007-07-16 20:55:12.0

That works too, but not such a fan here

    2007-07-17 01:21:01.0

I was about to say I use a program called ATNotes, then I scrolled up a bit and saw that I already said that

    2007-07-17 08:39:01.0

Pen and paper, actions tag in gmail and todo list in 30boxes. I wish I only had one "inbox", but I prefer what I have to having to do "conversions" to a single list. I also use activecollab, but it's mostly so that customer and collaborators can see progress. My todo list tends to be finer grained than the activecollab tasks. Though, I'll often add details and clarifications to the comments and tasklists.

    2007-07-17 08:56:15.0

If there is one thing I play around with the most, it's "to-do list" apps.  I use (or have used) everything from index cards to JCMB Quicknotes, to Ta-Da List, to recently registering for Toodledo.  I haven't found the holy grail yet, but I have fun trying them out!  I will say that TaDa and Toodledo have Firefox extensions that allow for quick additions via your browser.  There's also RememberTheMilk too.

    2007-07-18 06:15:07.0

I use Backpack http://backpackit.com from 37signals.  Its very ajax-y.  If you don't need to store files or use the writeboards, you can get a 5 page account for free.  I have paid their lowest subscription ($5/month for 25 pages) for about a year now.  You can make pages pubic and invite others to collaborate.  It has some drawbacks like moving lists or items to other pages but its still the best I have found.  There is also a Firefox plug-in.

    2007-07-18 06:45:01.0

I also use Jott.  If I am on the road or not at a computer, I can call Jott with my cell phone and speak a message.  The message is transcribed and sent to my email.  I can also have it send CC my Backpack page and it will be added to my todo list automatically.

    2007-07-18 08:24:29.0

RememberTheMilk for me. I'm a recent convert having been using Google Calendar and 30Boxes in the past. I love the usability and features of RTM. Very well thought out application.

    2007-07-19 02:17:24.0

I was using RememberTheMilk, and then Backpack, but I'm now using Vitalist , which I find is better for those of us who follow David Allen's "Getting Things Done" system.  Vitalist was created specifically for GTD.

    2007-07-19 17:31:58.0

Backpack has just released an update last night. You can now reorder items between sections easier, reorder sections of the page, and move items to another page (nice).

I am checking out Vitalist today.  Very nice.

I've been using Action Outline for to-do-lists and much more for several years. Now I tend to feel that it is aging a bit... No web 2.0 feature whatsoever, no extensive search...  I would be interested to know if anybody has used it or is still using it, or found something significantly better for managing not just small lists, but ideas in general.

    2007-07-25 16:07:02.0

I did use ActionOutline for awhile and I do remember it being useful. I didn't have a laptop then, so I abandoned it because it wasn't portable. I may have had it on a usb stick, I can't remember. But I did drop it.

I used JSPWiki as an intranet for our development team and it was great. Now, I use it on my MB Pro to keep pointers to local and online docs, projects and my journal. I still keep actions on paper. A personal JSPWiki is a great solution. It's like a huge bookmarks "sidebar".

    2007-07-25 19:52:57.0

Versioning of files and pages is definitely useful

    2007-07-25 19:53:45.0

RTM uses google gears so it can go offline, which is handy.

Mostly I use it via the iGoogle second sidebar in Firefox, but it's easily accessed via IM using MSN or IM-ified.  And it integrates well with gCal inside gMail.. i could go on. It works for me so i've stopped looking for other systems. And it's Aussie!!

    Oh wow!

Ill have to have another look at it

    2007-07-26 02:21:47.0

I am testing out 8apps currently which is in the same vein as 37signals product. I also keep a journal with me at all times to dump notes onto.

    2007-07-27 05:11:47.0

I just switched from Todoist to Remember the Milk.  I love RTM.  I'm also testing 8apps.

    hmm

    2007-07-31 14:50:41.0

    heheheh that's funny

    2007-07-31 18:22:28.0

I've tried a lot of diff apps, and I am currently very excited by iGTD which is based on the David Allen Getting Things Done principals. It's Mac-only I believe (sorry Windoze users);) And it's amazingly interactive like a relational database. Impressive stuff in IMHO and donation-ware...

    Developer's home is here: http://bargiel.home.pl/iGTD/

I use OneNote...it came with my copy of Vista...its actually not bad...but i read somewhere (perhaps in the box that Vista came in) that OneNote is not a new program...its been out there for a while. Does anyone know what it was called before?

    2007-08-01 21:28:10.0

Its always been OneNote... it was released with the first of the tablet pcs and was pretty much only marketed to people with those (hence its relative obscurity)

    2007-08-01 21:30:51.0

Ther is actually a one note group here on Tangler ... but I don't know how active it is...

    2007-08-01 21:31:52.0

Pen and paper, or pen and hand.....

I still haven't found something I'd use regularly

Don't forget ink on hand - my preferred method

    =========

Yup, that's the way: Pen and paper. Or notes on the hand - though I've grown out of that and keep a (nerdy) note pad close to hand.

I personally love Post-It notes. Also a note pad of plain paper and a proper full day (or at least half day) desk diary for important dates and records.

Always have loved Post-it notes: sticking one upon top of another in a cascade, so that each can be torn off as the task is done and the cascade is adjusted.

It has yet to beat the wizz-bangery of the computer/mobile phone reminder......Reminders  I always miss. Or get and forget.

Post-Its stay there until I deal with them. (Or ignore...... until it's poitless)

Pen and paper is better. It's to me personal and gives a greater sense of some  personal  investment in the work to be done.

    2007-08-20 13:40:06.0

I also tend to use pen and paper - or more accurately pen and diary.  I like using the diary format becauseI know what date I did something - or was supposed to do something.  Although I suspect I will be checking out some of the links people have given too!

    2007-08-20 13:45:15.0

Although I suspect I will be checking out some of the links people have given too! ....Evil checker upperLaughingLaughing

    Paper is better though.

    2007-08-20 13:49:18.0

FYI, I now use Taskpaper for OS X:) from Hog Bay Software

    2008-02-12 14:11:22.0

    I'm using Notepad...XP

Otherwise I like Treepad (I'm using the freeware version only, typically me...).

    2008-02-14 00:37:48.0

    omnifocus on mac here

    2008-04-02 23:48:20.0

yeah, all for tech, but i use pen/paper or my erasable board.

    2008-04-06 05:31:56.0

when i'm at work, i use post-its. but at home, i use the notes gadget on vista. My tech-y friend came over last night and laughed at me because apparently i'm the only person he know that uses it! ...actually come to think of it,,, i'm the only person that I know who uses it too! LOL

    2008-04-06 10:11:24.0

I use the gadget too, but not very often. I usually do Win+R -> notepad -> [Enter], and starts typing.

    2008-04-06 10:55:30.0

I use Notepad to save stuff I need to look at or do, but not straight away. That way, when I look at my Dashboard, I see it.

Still use Gmail to send myself emails with lists in them.

Also, so much of my actionables come in via e-mail, so I use a star and unread system to keep track of those.

And then there's good ol pen and paper

    2008-04-06 18:39:35.0

Do you *send* yourself emails!? ROTFLOL! Use "save now" and go to drafts to find them instead!

    2008-04-07 10:58:42.0

But then it wouldn't flag them as unread :P

    2008-04-07 14:35:56.0

+1 for Omnifocus on Mac OS X

    2008-04-07 18:26:50.0

Yeah, anything out of sight won't get done, so they have to be in the inbox as opposed to in 'drafts'.

    2008-04-07 18:29:49.0

I use the email system too...I "flag-for-follow-up" on any tasks that come in, and mark as unread so they stick out even more.

    2008-04-08 10:28:49.0

However, I do save stuff in drafts, rather than sending myself something. If I need to be reminded about something I already know about, I'll just write it down on a sticky.

    2008-04-08 10:30:08.0

    I have three lists:

    - Possibilities -- these are things that I want to do, or might do. the list goes off into the future.

    - Top of mind -- I update this list every week with the things on the top of my mind

    - Daily -- Things I'm going to do today

I also run a list for each project I'm workin on, but that's separate.

My possibilities list lives in Xpad, top of mind is in Tadalists and Daily list goes in my diary!

    2008-04-16 18:17:49.0

Never heard of Tadalist before now.

I had a look, but they don't really have a place where they show how it works, or an explanation. Do you have to be on the site to make your notes?

    2008-04-16 19:21:21.0
    ray

Notepad - simple, easy to edit, lightweight - works as well as paper!

    2008-04-21 17:38:33.0

    LOL! Agreed!
