Did anyone notice that the new beta for Safari is available for Windows?
Yeah, and I read an excellent article on abt it....
I'll see if I can find it
Quote from article: A couple of Windows users I've talked to would happily ditch Firefox for Internet Explorer if only IE supported some of Mozilla browser's handy plug-ins.
damn heretics! burn them all!
Seriously, after you've made the conversion to FF, why in hell's name would you want to go back to ads, viruses, a sucky UI, no extensibility and pretty much no patches/updates?
yeah, however a lot of bugs
The single most irritating thing abt IE - it 'pops-up' to become the main window everytime it loads a page... 'Look at me! Look at me it sez'
Honestly.... the number of times I've cursed it....
*shaking head*

Because some stupid websites are still designed to work on IE and don't work on other browsers (like my bank). Of course, the IE Tabs extension fixes that but the average user may not go through the bother to figure that out.
Who in their right mind would run Safari on Windows?
I'm running it to check our website against it. The site actually looks nicer to me in Safari for some reason. I don't think I would drop FF for my general purpose browsing.
Same here.... it's just too convenient
Just saw this on Digg. The original site is suffering from the Digg Effect so I couldn't RTFA.
yeah....
Judging from the snippet there - FF and IE aren't much better in the memory department.... I use both all day, and have to keep restarting them after every 1, 2 hrs
oh, and ROFL @ RTFA! Love it!
I run FF for days sometimes.
IE has to be restarted at least once a day.
Probably should be more often, but I am lazy. ![]()
They both just die on me.... After a couple of hours, they'll just keep hanging until they die
I've got six browsers... IE being the most used (because thats what most got started on), Firefox being the favorite (because of the extensions, themes, speed, etc). I normally keep my cache cleared, extensions, plugins, add-on and toolbars to a minimum or turned off.
So I was surprised when I installed Safari (for Windows XP beta) yesterday. Runs so damn fast compared to IE and Firefox. I decided to make it my default browser for a while. Gonna give it a shot.
hi
Yes... hi.. digging the Safari browser for windows.
So, is it any good trelotrick?
Damn thing won't install properly for me![]()
I'm using the Safari 3 Beta for Windows! It's great! I never thought I'd use anything other than FF as my main browser, and then Safari comes along. I like it very much! Probably won't ever use IE 7 again.
So far Safari has been working normally, i.e. no real problems have been encountered. It did sorta crash when I tried to print something, but that may have been partly due to my printer being unplugged. Featurewise, I like how it comes preloaded with all the necessary basic bookmarks. Interface is great, very Mac-like. Great experience!
LOL! That "great, very Mac-like" interface is the thing that I like least about Safari! (iTunes, too for that matter.)
I am using the Safari 3 beta for osx. I like the things they improved, but there are things that I miss from some plugins. That being saved tabs and opening links in new tabs.
Am I wrong or are the plugins (i.e. Flash, Java) just the Firefox plugins? I swear when I was installing them one of the window titles said Firefox in it.
If you right click on a link you can open it in a new tab. I wish it was like FF though where you could click the scroll wheel (that's one drawback about Safari). I wouldn't doubt the plug-in's are FF plug-in's; they're the same as the basic plug-in's offered on mozilla's site. By the way, I was looking for an easy way to save to delicious in Safari and I was wondering if there was an overall plug-in site for Safari (other than the basic apps aforementioned) like there are for IE and FF? Not a problem of any sort and I'm guessing one will eventually come up, but a few 3rd party plug-in's (such as del.icio.us quick post) would be nice.
Got it installed, then it chrashed because I can't set the proxy stuff manually
@ Pup: Yep, looks to be the FF plugins
yh i am using it now to post on tangler and i have to say that tangler laods a bit faster than in ie i don't know about in firefox
Why the heck doesn't Apple put the "Check for upgrades" option in the Help menu like every other company on the planet? I saw the updates were available this morning and had to hunt for the Apple Software Update application on my computer to get them. "Think Different" shouldn't apply to every freaking aspect of the UI!
Sorry. I feel better now.
hahahaha
Sorry Pup, but that was a great outburst!
Apple's Safari uses Netscape 4 style plugins (ie: only media players). Just like Opera.
It's also a lot slower on Ajax apps.
Did everyone get the latest version? 3.0.1 according to the software updater. It still crashes when dealing with n authenticated proxy though.
I got the lastest version. It can not display some big site in China. I do not know whose fault.
Apple also thought that Firefox wasn't competition... LOL.
