Seems the PS3 is not flying of the shelves when compared to Xbox 360 and the Wii.

I remember the PS2 being an absolute nightmare to programme and Sony didn't seem to care. Seems the game developers agreed.

Sony have always been pretty arrogant with regard to developers on their platform. Pretty arrogant full stop actually.

There is also a little bit of saturation. A lot of my friends have said their PS2 is good enough for now. I'm sure they'll upgrad to something in the next couple of years, but no rush. Pacman is still fun, if you get me.

That's another big problem with the PS3 launch no big game: no Halo or GT3.

They need something SUPER hot that you can only play/fully appreciate on the newer hardware.

The problem with the PS3 is three fold, the lack of a big name launch title, the difficulty to develop games for it, and the price of the system itself. No launch title meant less of a reason to buy the console. If it's hard to develop games for your system then developers are less inclinded to develop them and with less systems being sold they are also less likely to see a profit from games they develop for your system. And finally with a high price point that is undercut by both your competitors you'll have difficulty selling your system at all.

Most of the PS3s being sold are either selling to people that are hardcore fans of Sony Consoles, or are using them to play BlueRay Movies.

Sony has basically dug the PS3 it's own grave.

TBH I am glad to see that people are refusing to put up with Sony's "Well we created the walkman in the 70s, so obviously what we say the people should use, people should use" attitude...

Losing the GTA series was a huge loss for sony.  I
don't care if they eventually came out for all systems.  This is a big
loss for the system.  Second problem is the completely underwhelming GT
series.  GT2 goes down in my book as one of the top 5 games of all
time.  That will never change.  But GT4 was a bit underwhelming and
the way things are shaping up for Forza 2, GT5 might be in for more
trouble.  So that leaves MGS.  So they have one huge exclusive.
    One...

yeah, sony just didn't offer enough for gamers... developing on a PSx is a completely nightmare.

I used to work with Sony when I was with Virgin. Everyone there (99%) were so arrogant. They considered us leaches sucking off their skill.

I bought a Sony Ericcson phone and it sucks. So much suck. I will never buy another one, Nor a laptop. Nor a PS3.

    BZZZZZZZZZZZZ - thanks for playing.

Sony used to be king of just about anything with a circuit board. It's a bummer they've fallen to where they have.

Sony builds Home for net denizens

    In the wake of virtual
worlds like Second Life and such file-sharing stalwarts as
YouTube and Flickr, Sony Computer Entertainment is using its
PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable to usher in its own
    virtual online-connected community.

The initiative, dubbed "Home," will allow gamers to create
virtual avatars and congregate in 3-D homes and halls to
socialise via text, audio or video chat; watch movie trailers
or feature films; and play casual games. Gamers will be able to
do all this via a free download that will be offered in the
fall in the U.S. and Europe.

"Our vision for the future, Game 3.0, will continue our
track record of industry advancement by leveraging the
convergence of technologies, from broadband and video chat to
supercomputer-speed processors, to make gaming more interactive
and dynamic than ever before," said Phil Harrison, the
president of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios,
during a keynote presentation at the Game Developers Conference
    in San Francisco Wednesday.

on top of that the PS3 looks like a big black... ...thing...

The Wii is much more interesting in my point of view;)

I disagree, I recently purchased a PS3 off Ebay for $520 (60 GB), so much is overlooked. The XMB (Cross Media  Bar) really makes the Ps3 much more than a gaming system, I spent my first two days with it just playing around with stuff and browsing the web. Then after I connected my external 250gb HD to it and it read it flawlessly. I also updated the system by downloading it from the Playstation website and using my thumbdrive to load it.  When family comes over, we start a slide show with some great background music and it makes perfect ambience.

Just my experience over 5 days with one.

(BTW: The games kick ass too, I feel motion sickness from Motorstorm and Resistance after hours of gameplay, NO lag online)
