Unlimited email storage capacity for Yahoo! Mail

    2007-03-27 18:53:25.0

I dunno... I've been using gmail since the early betas and still haven't used up half the quota.  Cool though!

    2007-03-28 16:06:05.0

That may be why Yahoo did it

    2007-03-28 16:07:16.0

The propprtion of people who actually use the full capacity would be quite small

    2007-03-28 16:07:58.0

Yep, that's not very risky for them.

    2007-03-28 17:01:51.0

Question is, How Gmail will answer this??;)

    2007-03-28 17:02:12.0

They'll make that rolling storage counter go faster

    :P

    2007-03-28 17:08:23.0

    They did already

    2007-03-28 17:08:57.0

    pushing it to 3.5 gb.

    2007-03-28 17:09:03.0

    Are you serious??

    2007-03-28 17:09:06.0

    COOL!

    2007-03-28 17:09:12.0

    Sorry

    My mistake, they actually didn't

    2007-03-28 17:10:10.0

I'm currently using 14%, and was getting worried

Actually, the thing is that I'm turning into an email hoarder.... I delete the obvious rubbish, but everything else stays

    2007-03-28 17:10:18.0

    Doh!

    2007-03-28 17:10:26.0

They just updated the calculation process, so it will reach 3.5 gb in ... 5 years...

    2007-03-28 17:10:41.0

    2800MB: Already reached

    2835MB: In 18.22 days

    2007-03-28 17:10:49.0

    thats just crazy storage

    2007-03-28 17:11:17.0

    I use 67% of my 2.8Go...

    2007-03-28 17:11:32.0

unless you hack your email for file storage there is no way you will fill up that can of storage on text alone

    2007-03-28 17:12:10.0

pierre do you use your email account for file storage

    2007-03-28 17:12:57.0

yep, I have a total of 6 pop accounts in my gmail, so I use to have about 40-50 emails a day for years and I still have heaps of room;)

    2007-03-28 17:13:19.0

    nop

    2007-03-28 17:13:21.0

    Storage is cheap!

    2007-03-28 23:51:27.0

Isn't there a program you can use so that your unused storage on Gmail becomes like a virtual drive or something?

    Gdrive?

    2007-03-29 09:15:08.0

    This
extension allows you to use your Gmail Space (2.8 GB and growing) for
file storage. It acts as an online drive, so you can upload files from
your hard drive and access them from every Internet capable system. The
    interface will make your...

    Version 0.5.6 — March 3, 2007

Can't vouch for it as I haven't tried it myself.:-/

this is their own disclaimer set:

    LEGAL ISSUES:

    * THIS IS NO WAY AFFILIATED WITH GOOGLE AND GOOGLE DOESN'T ENDORSE IT. SO, INSTALL IT AT YOUR OWN RISK.

    * I AM NOT HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY FILE LOSS OR ANY DAMAGE DUE TO THIS EXTENSION.

    * IF GOOGLE MAKES ANY CHANGES TO GMAIL, THIS MAY NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY.

    Usage:

    * Do not upload/download many files in a single day. You may get your
account blocked for 24 houres. It seems this happens if more thatn 1GB
of data is transferred in a single day.

    * The best thing is to upload files and folders that are NOT critical.
Anyway, since file is available as an attachment on an e-mail, they
will always be available through the Gmail interface, and they should
be as safe as your e-mails.

    * Creating a new user account is highly recommended because that won't affect your regular account.

    2007-03-29 10:46:59.0

I'm happy with GMAIL. I've got a yahoo account which I mainly use to sign up for stuff incase of spam

    2007-03-29 11:50:31.0

hmm.. thinking about it, all you need to do is attach whatever it is to an email and send it to yourself - no 3rd party program required

so that means there must be some kind of added bonus to using the extra software..... ?

    2007-03-29 11:53:26.0

It ties into the OS - you  can use it like any other drive.

    2007-03-29 14:11:51.0

    ahh, I see

    useful

    2007-03-30 07:02:31.0

    Hello gigaboy20:)

    2007-03-30 22:06:59.0
    Sri

my only gripe with gmail is it doesnt allow directories/folders.. sure it has a way of labelling stuff, but still...

    2007-04-01 17:23:23.0

I'm not sure I understand - in the context of email directories are little more than arbitrary labels anyway.

    2007-04-01 18:20:54.0

Do you just prefer the hierarchical interface?

    2007-04-01 18:22:47.0

I'd like the option of creating folders and moving some mail to those folders....

Searching for mail can be a real pain, esp if you can't remember the specifics

    2007-04-01 18:33:46.0

Sounds like labels with a different name.

    2007-04-01 18:36:09.0

I have all my mailing list email automatically labeled and archived.

    2007-04-01 18:36:51.0

    How do you do that?

    2007-04-01 18:37:19.0

You can set up filters in gmail to do everything from label email to deleting it.

    2007-04-01 18:37:53.0

The filter can detect by content, source, etc. I think it can filter by attachment to.

    2007-04-01 18:38:18.0

So a new unread belonging to a label will show in that and not in the inbox?

    2007-04-01 18:39:31.0

    That's my setup.

    2007-04-01 18:40:58.0

I'll go fiddle with it now

    2007-04-01 18:40:58.0

    Cool

    2007-04-01 18:41:04.0

Ok, I did it... It still leaves my labelled and filtered stuff in the inbox. And it doesn't separate 'clumped' emails so that the labelled email will be extracted.

Am I expecting it to do things it isn't supposed to do?

    2007-04-01 18:47:14.0

Did you check the 'skip the inbox' box? That seems to work for me.

    2007-04-01 18:48:54.0

Oops.... I didn't see that. Lemme try again

    2007-04-01 18:49:27.0

    Cool.... helps with some mails.

Will have to figure out how to sort the rest.

Thanks for your help and patience shib!

    2007-04-01 18:53:17.0

    No worries

    2007-04-01 18:54:22.0
    Sri

ah fair enough..  that makes sense.. i guess if you have automatic labelling then itd make your view easier...  is there a way of showing only mails with certain labels on startup rather than all mails?

    2007-04-01 21:50:02.0

    *rant*

    I HATE GMAIL!

I hate that when it clumps mails together, I can't delete one without deleting them all!

    ARGGGGGHHHHHHH

    2007-04-02 00:46:23.0

    clumps them together?

    2007-04-02 04:13:34.0

I love the clumping together. How all those of a same topic are together. I hate hotmail and out look for not putting them together well. And how you hit 'reply' in sent mail and it goes to send the email to you... dumb!!

    2007-04-02 04:14:56.0

    Hotmail = pathetic unfortunately.

    2007-04-02 04:18:08.0

I don't mind the clumping together. Ordinarily

But when I have 10-20 mails put together, with multiple conversations in them, it gets really hard to keep track of.

And when there's some rubbish I have to wade thru to get to the stuff I want to keep in the first place, it infuriates me.

I get angry when the net doesn't let me do something I want it to do

    >:-O

    2007-04-02 06:22:05.0

that sucks I suppose. I'm loving Google Office and Calender!

    2007-04-03 09:03:57.0

I have to admit, I haven't used either.

    2007-04-03 17:29:04.0

Try them out, you just use your gmail account

    2007-04-04 03:56:00.0

    Yeah, I will..... soon

    2007-04-04 16:41:30.0

    how? Uh, nevermind, that's awesome!
