    Top of your head...

I like the idea, but I think it's a tough win. I hope they pull it off.

to tell you the truth I am completely lost.

What would I need this for again?

I can see the issue with linked in. I only add comments by people who write good things.

inanimatethinker, with the gorb, you can receive anonymous feedback, and the comments you receive are only viewable to you.  You have the option of displaying them to the world, but you don't have to.  The scores and tags are displayed by default, but the system protects you with an algorithm that addresses bias  (+ or -) and rater reality so that your gorb score maintains a certain level of inertia.  A single rater cannot move it much in either direction.

Well, I am curious and interested in trying this out.

    2007-06-04 01:13:01.0

    I'm unsure about it....

I'm not sure how much faith I would put in ratings like these, whether done anoymously or not....

And also, I'm not sure I like the idea of rating people or being rated in the first place.

    2007-06-05 00:29:41.0

If I didn't like the rating I got, couldn't I just delete the account or something? So how can you gurantee honesty and integrity?

    2007-06-05 00:30:24.0

Yeah, you make a good point, that's why I don't think it would ever be useful for that purpose without a system that allows users to post what they want without only the person being commented on being able to delete it (maybe people look at comments and vote on them a la Digg style and the best ones get shown and the worst ones can maybe get deleted).

It will never work like that.

The purpose this website serves best, is for a person, like yourself to recieve anonymous comments, criticisms, and praises from people.  The people will never be known, so the person that was commented on will never know who really wrote it.

Say for example, a boss of a huge company signs up and gives all his or her employees the link to comment on him/her, the employees are completely safe from being identified, and only the boss would be able to read the comments (unless the boss allows them to be public).

So that is an example of a great use I can find for this site.

Unfortunately, I doubt I'm going to make any new friends using the site and of all the friends I invited to rate me, none have, so I don't know how far this will go.

If more of a social type approach was taken, I could see it getting better feedback, but it's kinda like for your own benefit, and yours alone, and doesn't really promote community IMO.

So yeah, good attempt, but needs a ton of work to get anywhere.

    2007-06-05 01:08:39.0

    Yeah, but that's the catch.

How do you form a community and guranteee anonynimity?
On the other hand, how do you get objective responses if you form a community?

    2007-06-05 01:12:43.0

Those are the questions aren't they:P

Luckily for myself, I don't need to answer or solve those problems, I just pretend to know what I'm talking about:)

    2007-06-05 02:30:37.0

    heheheh

Well, until those questions, or something like them, are answered, I can't see the value in Gorb
