Writers Inc.
We are starting a writers’ group for people who are serious about writing and willing to put the necessary effort and work into developing their writing skills. This group is designed for writers of all types: poetry, a love letter, jokes, a technical manual, children stories, short stories, screenplays, novels, even a dictionary if you wish.
If you can think it and pen it, then it’s up to you to make it worth reading.
Writers Inc. is not just a writing group, it is an opportunity to develop friendships, build self-confidence, develop better writing skills and hopefully, help to make us all better writers and people in general.
Through dedicated commitment and following a structured format with a group of likeminded people, we can inspire each other, share in mutual learning and growth, develop better writing habits, push/encourage each other to actual finish our projects and most importantly - have fun doing it.
If you are familiar with the series, “The Artist’s Way” by Julia Cameron, you will recognize many similarities in the format we have decided to use for our group. The group is designed to give everyone involved the opportunity to work together with eleven likeminded, creative people. The group format will enable all of us to share/work with one another either through meetings and/or by emails. So don’t worry if you cannot make every meeting. But, we do expect everyone to attend most meetings - if you are truly serious about developing your writing skills and willing to help your fellow writers develop their skills.
The group format:
1 – No more than 12 serious members.
2 – We meet weekly or biweekly, whichever is most convenient for everyone.
3 – We will meet either Monday or Tuesday nights, starting at 6:30 - 7 PM. (Alternative nights
and/or times if necessary)
4 – Meetings last at least two hours in length. (Permitting time for readings and discussions.)
5 – Group meets in Newton, (Waban Stop off the MBTA Green Line, private, spacious location,
comfortable chairs, bathrooms and fresh brewed coffee/tea.)
6 – A short writing assignments will be required for each meeting. Assignments will be 1 to 2
pages in length. They will be read aloud by the writers and followed by an open discussion.
7 – At each meeting, we openly discuss and critique 2 to 3 members’ current projects.
(Writers wishing to have their work reviewed, will email copies of their work to all
group members at least 3 days before scheduled meetings. All members will print the
material and review it - making comments, suggestions, changes and corrections on the
pages and share their reviews either at the meetings, or by emails, with the author.)
8 – If you are unable to attend a meeting, you will still be required to email your
suggestions, opinions, changes and corrections to the writers being discussed for
that meeting.
9 – We work with fellow members between meetings, (whenever necessary), through
electronic communication.
10 – The meetings are “FREE”- no costs to anyone and no soliciting of any kind.

starting where and when?
Hi Vince and Pikagirl, not many seem to be using the narrative ark. (Vince, it's Aidan.) I wonder if this is the right place to be trying to set up a group? Finding the right people by chance seems unlikely. My needs are specific and I'm not a beginner. Pikagirl's question shows she thinks everything is already set up. Vince, you should make it clear that we are very much in the formulating stage. I hope we have some luck.
Hey Newton Writers - Did anything ever happen with this group? I'm a Newton res. with a love for The Artist's Way, and a desire to hone my writing skills. I recently finished my first YA novel and know I need to have some other eyes see it before I go much further. I'd love to be a part of launching this group if it hasn't already!
Megan
