hahaha Okay, I'll put my 'social network thinking' cap on

how does social networking change news media, and when will news habits change for the average joe? i get 99% of my news from 24 blogs at bloglines, and a little taste of twitter and facebook. 'news' on the tv seems very boring and very superficial, and the same topics and headlines repeated night after night.

Question:

Is the present set of Facebook apps a fad that will end and with it Facebooks strength?

@bdude, srsly - didn't you listen to Stephen Collin's podcast interview with Duncan Riley on On The Pod the other week?

I hate having to withhold the truth from the public - just so the Department of XYZ can't be held accountable for anything. "Yes we stuffed up, and we're working on it. I'd love to say it'll be fixed by tomorrow but I'm knocking off at 3pm to go to a WSG meeting so it'll be done Thursday"

 

Instead of "The Department has received your enquiry and has referred it to the appropriate team. We will respond within 24-48 hours. Regards"

Or for blogging ... have some transparency! The whole thing about us having a transparent government now is ... well, I'll leave it to you to make your own mind up

Sorry ... I'm way off topic now. But I did find out the other day the Dep Sec of our department has a Facebook profile - I think I found it; he hasn't done anything with it yet ...

Can't make it but can you guys chat about a facebook app vs OpenSocial widget. Do i build for both or just go with facebook fopr now and wait and see about OpenSocial?

I'm with Nathanael - getting social networking and appropriate tools to make the jump from business world use to public sector use. What, how and the compelling reasons why. At the moment, it's all stealth. And sometimes discovery of the use of these tools results in penalisation of the users in government agencies.  There is a quantum leap in corporate culture needed.

BTW, what is the schedule? When does the live show go to air?
