I think noise is unasked for information in any form - and concerns about becoming too narrow in focus, notwithstanding - the whole move is towards narrowing and deepening signal and away from broadcast. I define what is noise/signal myself... Plus I wanna know - when did the financial report on the Evening News stop being News and became an Advertisement for Commonwealth bank? o.O

Last.fm is a good alternative for listening to any song isn't it? It is just streaming so you can't save it or burn it, but it certainly has its place just like this new thing you are talking about. Sure, I'll listen to ads, they call it radio now don't they?
