I'm listening to the 30th podcast right now, the bit about scoble. There was some reference to evangelism
I have a question which you guys could cover if it is relevant:
What is evangelism, what purpose does it serve, and is it only Microsoft that does it?
(And if it is only Microsoft, then why?)
When we think evangelism in relation to software I ONLY think Microsoft - is that because they use it in job titles and promotional material and conversations?
As far as the activity itself regardless of any active branding on their part, yeah I think Microsoft is the only one. But I'll leave that for the 2webcrew to respond to![]()
I guess the Microhoo story will get a run
heh Yeah...
yeah i think microhoo will be MOST of this week's convo.
I'm not saying that I've got an exclusive on the term "Microhoo" but I had a chuckle to myself when I saw that TWiT's episode this week is called Microhoo.
What's TWiT?
Yeah, I saw that on Twit - This Week In Tech - it's a big podcast. Good one.
Audible being bought by Amazon is good too.
@ mick - i wonder if that means that Leo will talk about Audible for 30 minutes instead of 15?![]()
@ dekrazee, http://www.twit.tv - it is part of the "This Week in ........" family. I only listen to the tech one. I think you can get video as well but I only listen to audio podcasts. I don't see the point in video for things like TWiT and Cranky Geeks.
@ everyone - is it possible to automatically delete or not download video files that appear every so often in RSS feeds via iTunes?
Thanks Erk!
With the news of My Space launching its Open Social based API.
It is becoming a significant decision for app developers and entrepeneurs to decide what context to build their app in...
- Should we build a stand-alone application at its own domain OR
- Should we build Facebook app OR
- Should we build an Open Social/My Space app...
- Or some combination?
- Can we build app experiences across social networks?
- What choice will make the most money?
- What choice will allow us to grow more effectively in the future?
- What choice will bring the most users?
What do you guys think?
Can we just bury MySpace ... puleeeez?
I logged back into MySpace to check out opensocial space, and I have to say that it's a lot nicer than the last time I looked (9 mths ago).
Still not on par with FaceBook, but the millions of tweens who use it don't care.
Agenda Suggestion: With the US elections on, is digital media now more powerful than traditional in influencing elections?
Another Agenda suggestion:
"But all that fretting is supposed to change this year, according to a report issued by eMarketer last month: the researcher projected that global ad spending devoted to social nets is expected to rise 81 percent, to $2.2 billion in 2008 from $1.2 billion last year."
http://www.paidcontent.org/entry/419-slow-going-for-social-net-ad-revenues/
How are social sites and ad vendors becoming better at getting higher CPMs out of user-generated and video sites? How do automated systems get highly contextual... and yet avoid embarrasing ads (e.g racist) next to brands... and user privacy violations?
Agree that Microhoo is a fab one for this week. I think it should happen, but only if they actually change their name to Microhoo... if they aren't prepared to do that I think its a terrible idea.
What about Yasoft?![]()
Anyhoo - I like Microhoo better. Imagine the slogan "Anyhoo, Microhoo. Where do you want to go today?"![]()
dek likes that! LOL
The slogan or Yasoft, Dek?![]()
In answer to Mick's question re digital media and US elections. I think that it's having a major effect, particularly in bringing out younger voters. Obama particularly is gaining significant reach through his website, the Obama Youtube channel and the like.
The latest effort, Will.I.Am's collaborative piece that is at http://yeswecansong.com is incredibly powerful. I've watched it several times now and it chokes me up every time. Check it:
Now, let me freely admit, I am an unabashed Obama fanboy. But the man is an inspiring speaker and is inspiring others to do something
I like Obama n everything, but I can't help thinking nothing will change. I see him doing some good, but I think the system is too big and too 'corrupt' for him to do much.
Erk - Both!
Splitting Podcast and Agenda.
Podcast and discussion now here;
When are we going to be done with it and formally become the 51st state of America?![]()
Ewwww.... I just settled here. Please don't make me have to move again!
where were you before, dek?
Singapore
cool. how long have you been here for?
Been in Aust for 12 yrs now, but just got my permanent residency last Dec
@Erk I think we neither want to nor should have any closer ties to the USA. The relationship is at times too close now. My enthusiasm for Obama is in his potential to be a catalyst for reform and change.
What kind of reform and change do you hope to see trib?
sup peeps
Good luck with the show one and all. I need to do an airport run.
Make sure you talk about my tough questions.![]()
Can you guys publish the time going forward? Its become part of my routine and I hate to miss it.
