Please! Somebody fluent in linux please help me...I installed ubuntu on my 500 gb WD Essential Edition external hard drive, I set up the 256 swap file and 50 gb for the install, completely separate from my 80gb internal Dell PC hard drive (XP). I finally got the settings to work (i.e. ext3 and / wouldn't work before but now do), and it installed. But now, when I reboot, it goes to this black screen that says Grub and then error 21. Apparently this means "disk not found." How's that possible? What do I do? I need windows back. I'm only writing now through the LiveCD in Ubuntu. Also, the rest of my WD external is not visible, presumably through the various filesystem trials I was experimenting with last night to get ubuntu to install...but it's now not visible either on ubuntu (liveCD) or windows (before I had finished the install and could still access it) Please!?!?! I beg you, someone, please help me!
If the problem still is there you should use the BIOS' boot menu and choose that HDD/partition manually.
Thanks for the info.I was fortunate enough to find someone to fix it a while back, so it's not an issue anymore and my stuff was restored. Thanks again.
Good to know.
Wanna help getting this forum active?
Yeah, it would probably be a good idea. I am a complete newbie when it comes to linux, but I'd love to find some time to learn and experiment. Yeah, though, I'd be willing to help get this forum up and running.
Then let's spread the word!
