I've talked about matchmaking for new games before. Now I'm going to address a different issue that some might agree and some might not. (Taking the basic account as an example)
The option for hosting 4 games should not be affected by the games you've been invited to. What I'm saying is that they should differentiate between the games you've hosted and the games you've been invited to. The games you've been invited to should not count towards the 4 games you should be able to make. This will alleviate some problems with people who are always running out of game invites and as an extra bonus, seems more fair of a way to do things.
I think we need to hear (from the game authors) why the current limits and system are in place, then we can decide whether we agree with the goals of the system, and possibly if there are better ways to reach those goals than what is currently in place.
How about reducing the number of hosted games to 3? That would be great if I could at least host 3 games without other people's invites interfering with my hosting options.![]()
Hey, I was about to say that Hateful! The reason why is that I don't remember the last time I've hosted a game:> It's my fault, but still. Btw I've just realised that answering 'me' in the chat window to every game offer can easy make you richer in games than any of the pro players so it's not the big deal. Since the games are going to be more balanced, one day even without that 1st turn advantage, it doesn't really matter actually.
I think I'd want the option to host some games. It sucks sometimes because you do want to play with your friends and you don't have any invites at all to do such a thing. So you're stuck with begging the next person to come along to see if they could setup a game with your friends for you. And then there's the invite thing, I can't invite anybody if I can't host games!
Weewar went from 100 to 1000 users in just a month, and then from 1000 to 7000 in another month. Growth is really good, but not at the expense of a good experience of the existing players. We need to make sure our infra structure can keep up at all times. Right now we are getting up to 100 new players every day ( that is with the current limitations) and us not sending out invites. We are as keen as you to get more people in - but we also need to make sure we can deliver a good product while we do that.
thats very good growth
It would be cool to see push pins on a map of the Earth showing general locations of all registered weewar players ... this:
http://www.freewarepub.org/geolocator/
- or like this:http://www.reverserecords.org/
Alex: I think I get what's you're trying to do with the current invite/hosting system. So is it possible that sometime in the future when everything is working good, maybe you can implement the hosting/invite system I mentioned?
good idea ratioswitch so that we can get a better idea for what timezone opponents are in instead of swapping around time zone codes they get too confusing
No kidding ... great point djdarkstar. I mean, when you're hunting for invites you don't always have time to talk location. I mean, I usually play weewar after I put my son down for the night and I would NEVER bother playing a game that late with someone 6 timezones away. A game like that would go MAYBE 3 rounds before that 6-timezone-difference player needed to go to bed locking the game up for 12 hours or more.
I like fast games, but sometimes slow games are excellent..... fits into a busy day better
This is true ... also helps control the weewar addiction![]()
what about this:
every person enters their own timezone in their profile and next to their name on any page it says +1 or -10 for the hour difference
Holy crap that's genius!
+1 here
great idea. +1
Better for people to be able to describe the times they tend to come on to do turns.
e.g. 1200-1400 GMT, or whatever.
that could be brought up later after you start since they wouldnt know the time they are usually on in your timezone without some research into time zone differences
dj: The weewar server would, of course, automatically translate between people's timezones.
