I was jsut thinking about the units and then I thought... hey I remember something from Advance Wars. There the vehicles had fuel points which are used while moving. If this would be implemented together with a epair/fuel car it could actually add more depth to th strategy part of the game.
Just an idea. And you? What are you thinking? (Actually I always hated the fuel thing... it was so annoying but worth a discussion I think)
More depth is usually good. I think fuel would be worth beta testing. We could always tinker with just how much travel each vehicle can do on a full tank.
i dunno i recon it might complicate things a bit, but it would be worth a test
i would give jets fuel to begin with, because they can move that much atm, so that would nerf the range a little bit. AW has fuel ships, carriers, to widen their range.
A possibility would be just to tax very strong or fast vehicles with the fuel malus to make it a little bit more fair like "You got a fat strong tank but it has fuel restrictions" but on the other hand it would be strange why this tank needs fuel and the weaker ones don't. Same for Jets, ships.
Maybe instead of fuel, ammunition? i.e. limited number of attacks before required to back to base and reload (rockets, missiles, bombs, etc.)
Could be justfied by saying that the "lesser" units don't burn fuel so fast, so the invisible engineers are able to get fuel to them
Something like a jet however burns fuel like there's no tomorrow and would eventually need to go back to top up
/me ponders the possibility of shooting down aircraft, crashing aircraft, vehicles that can't move because they're out of fuel...
but it woud be kind of fun seeing the jets falling from the skies because they don't have any fuel left![]()
Yeah Ammo would be a better way. There you can justify why a unit has less than the other very easely and it would also make sense. And Ammo Trucks would be no problem to implement. But fuel is also a good way to balance the strength of the units.
hehe, only just realised the inherent problem of "your tank has run out of fuel, please return to base to get more fuel"
yeah, ammo would make more sense
I don't think an ammo truck is really necessary - just make it implicit that for simple bullets or tank shells there are plenty of them wherever the units happen to be, they can take a near-limitless supply with them. If they were going to have an ammo limit it would have to be in the order of hundreds of attacks, otherwise every foray into enemy turf would end in "not enough ammo" and the battle would be swung by it.
Just have a limit for things with specialised ammo, like jets, maybe beserkers, anything that deals a lot of damage, the staple units need no nerfing
well, fuel and ammo? You're crazy or what?:o No, rly, I don't think it's a good idea for weewar, not for now, maybe in a few years:>
Yeah, perhaps there are better things to work on. It would probably reduce the fun factor a lot if you had to refuel or reload too much. But having a fairly high, but still finite supply of ammo or fuel might work out. The whole point of it would be to help balance out units. If it doesn't achieve that, it just degrades the game.
woa. I didn't mean BOTH fuel and ammo. ammo was more like another possibility. I still think an ammo car would be cool. Sure the normal bullets would be limitless but if you want to restock you berserk with ammo it kind of sucks to go back to your base... so a ammo ruck would be cool and wouldn't it be fun to destroy the ammo truck of your opponet when he is very far away from a base?![]()
Ugh. Having to replenish fuel and/or ammo would be annoying. Attackers are already at a disadvantage as they tend to be further away from their bases than defenders on a lot of maps, so it already takes longer to bring your new units to the front lines. Maybe if you had an engineer unit that could build a "supply depot" on any grass hex...
Right, so if you had secondary vehicles which were fast, which transported ammo and/or fuel, then it might work out. Supply lines are a reality present in real war. Also, there's the idea of setting up makeshift bases which were sort of lesser versions of real bases. They could be destroyable, and not give any income, but they could be used to refuel, reload and build new units.
And there could be a fuel rain and ammo plantation, so that every unit could do 'pick some ammo' or 'drink some fuel' move... and an invisible nuclear land mine hidden somewhere in the map... I know the real world it's a little bit different, but what if our troopers would want to drink beer and pee afterwards one day?:p
A temporary base would be very useful irregardless of fuel/ammo restrictions
It would have to be fairly difficult and/or costly to setup to discourage people kamikazeing whatever units can build it into enemy territory, then spawning a beserker or two
yeah, outposts would be good
