    SAD!

    2007-08-28 12:24:27.0

you spend too much time here, and not playing weewar.

    j/k Tongue out

I know an computer AI is probably long time from now for weewar, but I was thinking if it was possible to create a "gray" color version of all the units. Which we can populate maps with these "gray" units as neutral units that garrison bases on the map. Basically treat them as "creeps". This could add a new dynamic to the game. No longer will you have to rush one unit(trooper) to capture a base quickly, but have to send a squad.

    2007-08-28 12:24:59.0

That could be interesting.  +1 to get it on the test server for testing.

    2007-08-28 12:25:27.0

Also these units get a higher defense since all they would be doing is responding to attacks.

    2007-08-28 12:26:11.0

I think this has already been mentioned. You could put some stationary neutral units on the map that protect a base or a passage e.g.

    2007-08-28 12:27:22.0

ok, mike, you said "creeps" and now i'm envisioning ai units that move from one side of the map to the other, and you lose lives if you let them pass. :)

    2007-08-28 12:30:27.0

    "plague" units? :)

    2007-08-28 12:31:32.0

    Zombie infantry!

    poor devs...

    2007-08-28 12:32:11.0

    I support this idea

    2007-08-28 12:32:12.0

    lol

Fatmouse: Oh, I thought you were supporting Zombie Infantry.

    2007-08-28 12:32:38.0

As a member of the living, I loathe the undead

    2007-08-28 12:33:04.0

zombie units could be cool - give them a really simple AI, so every turn they move as many hexes as they can towards the nearest base and attack any unit they encounter on the way until they either die, or kill it. No further intelligence required

Actually, maybe also a rule for what to do when they can't move because their path is blocked by other zombies, who are stuck against defenders.. in that situation i guess they should try to go around the blockage (and then would aid in the attack by virtue of the first rule)

I'm sure someone could provide the drawings for little undead troopers, or a rusting tank with a wheel missing

    2007-08-28 14:32:46.0

Heh, I proposed this idea awhile back but it got shot down on the basis that it would add little to no benefit to game play. I still think it's a great idea and worth testing at the very least:).

    2007-08-28 15:37:02.0

At worst it would mean there were some computer controlled units around

I can imagine a map using them already - with vast hordes of zombies in the middle of the map, a player on either side and you have to fend off the zombies whilst trying to fight through them to get to some bases in the middle or just to get at your opponent

    2007-08-28 15:40:43.0

Neutral units would allow map makers to set up some training maps for solo play.  With a limited army at the start, a player could try to quickly clear a map populated with many neutral units.  Newer players could try out attacking from different angles with different units and see how the terrain and unit types work out in combat.  They wouldn't really learn the art of positioning against a thinking opponent, but that's what multiplayer games are for:)  More advanced players could refine their blitz techniques, striving for the quickest clear.  A map with no bases could teach conservation and repair, techniques not always understood by the newest players.

we actually intended to have the white units play the role of passive protectors as part of  map design. But than we decided to allow 6 players instead of 5 and there you go. It is not of the table.. but neither is it on right now. But we like the general idea. We might bring it back when we finalize the map editor.

    2007-09-03 12:23:26.0

I vote yes yes yes! Open all sort of new play.

    2007-09-12 12:24:38.0

will the map editor avail itself to people with fewer than 10 friends?:)
