neat little script - i like it![]()
Thanks! I've put up a new version that fixes a lot of issues around the pop up window placement and randomly dissapearing.

There's a new version up today. the UI has been updated and some bugs fixed. http://wwdb.sourceforge.net/
Can be downloaded @ http://downloads.sourceforge.net/wwdb/WeewarDashboardSetup-2007.9.10.821.exe
I like this tool.
I was looking for something that just sits in the taskbar telling me when I am up.
good job.
Thanks, There's a new version up today. http://downloads.sourceforge.net/wwdb/WeewarDashboardSetup-2007.09.18.exe
For any Vista users the 2007.9.20 version here: http://downloads.sourceforge.net/wwdb/WeewarDashboardSetup-2007.09.20.exe works well, the popup window now appears on the screen. This also fixes things for people with dual monitors that have different resolutions on each monitor.
one thing that annoys me with the Dashboard is that if the message pops up telling you its your turn it is focussed on and this interrupts my work
I often type without looking at the screen at all times, so the message pops up, and whatever I am typing is lost in the void
also, Ive seen other tools telling you which round you are in. This is not crucial information, but quite interesting at times. probably not too much work to include.
how about making the popup reminder optional. I mean the icon changing colour is sometimes enough indicator to know its your turn.
Yes stealing focus is a problem with the current version, look for a new version by Thursday or Friday that will not do that anymore.
AS for the other suggestions I'll take a look at the round information and making the pop up optional is definately doable
Ok so I've got the optional popup and the no focus stealing in place, but a new problem is that with no popup you have to open your HQ to get to the game. Any ideas Streen?
The round # in the game would mean another call to the web server so it would be a bit slower. what notifier does that? I'd like to see how they displayed it. Thanks.
not sure where Ive seen it. will get back to you if I see it again.
I don't mind opening HQ. in fact, have it open most of the time anyway, I use firefox with many open tabs and the weewar tab is open for weeks now![]()
I just wanna know when my attention is needed.
Thanks, will get the new version right away.
The new version only made it up today http://downloads.sourceforge.net/wwdb/WeewarDashboardSetup-2007.10.5.exe In addition to not stealing focus it now detects the gears of war.

re API errors in your list. Are those simply network errors (e.g. server not available) or is our API producing errors we are not aware of?
When Weewar returns an error screen instead of the .xml we're expecting. I look for this text:
Oops! An error occurred:
If that shows up then something has gone wrong and it lets the user know. I've only seen that for a 3-4 hour period a few weeks ago, so I saved the error page and then coded to deal with it.
The APi errors are back: Here's the file it returns instead of the regular .XML.
-----------------
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd" >
-------------------
Bah. Tangler cut most of the content, anyways, you can at least see it's not the regular .xml file that's coming back.
duly noted. Working on a fix now.
Sorry about that. We wont be able to have this fixed immediately. We'll be on it asap.
No worries, you guys have a lot on your plate today.

After the patch on Sunday everything regarding the API should be back to normal.
Yup, I saw it came back yesterday, and updated my code to work with the new urls.
Thanks for getting to it so quickly guys. It's nice to see that you really care about your 3rd party developers.![]()
You guys are making Weewar so much better with you efforts! Thanks a lot for all that!
Although I am a programmer and might be able to do this myself, I was wondering if you could add the following option: for the current games, as found by the notifier, allow for disabling notifications on a per-game basis. Even better would be allowing for the user to set a general "Minutes between checks" for any new games, but once a game is identified, allow for a per-game setting. If the user sets the time to 0, interpret that as NO checking on that game. Once a game is gone, of course, your app could delete any information about it so that you wouldn't end up caching a ton of useless historical data.
Anyone else like this idea?
Hrmm that would be a pretty big re-write of a lot of the code. If there's enough demand for it I'll do it. So why do you want to ignore some games?
A new version is up, this one is a minor bug/feature release. Previous version didn't deal well with chracters that received special encoding within XML like <>(),. etc. Version 2008.2.19 http://downloads.sourceforge.net/wwdb/WeewarDashboardSetup-2008.2.19.exe
Downloaded and installed yesterday, tried two computers and same error on both. Everything works just fine with the app, the test connection, the colour change on the tray icon, the launch of the web pages, but no pop up box ever pops up!!
Known bug?? Something I can fix??
cheers
Michael
Do you have your task bar somewhere other than the bottom? Can you think of any customizations you've made to your machine? I'll make them here and see what's going on.
Would like if it didn't force to top of screens ... sometimes I have 6 games in queue I have to make moves in ... and on 1-minute notification it pops up over my Weewar map while I'm trying to play a move![]()
Actually yes, my tast bar on this computer is down the left hand side, and just the icon wide. at home my PC has the task bar at the bottom though and it didn't work there either.
Cheers
NathanaelB - I had that discussion with my co-workers. We tried it not forcing on top and then you ran into the problem where if you weren't watching the tray icon you never noticed it was your turn since your outlook or whatever was always in front. The best suggestion is to reduce your check frequency, every 15 minutes or 60 minutes is pretty good, plus it lets you get some work done.
LukesNemesis - I can see where the taskbar down the left side would cause the window never to appear. I'll have to look into finding out how to determine the location of the taskbar first. Right now I just grab the height of the taskbar and subtract that from the resolution and stick the window there. So your left hand taskbar which equals the height of your desktop it'll be putting the pop-up window off the top of the screen.
As for it not showing up with the taskbar at the bottom, I'm not sure. If you can, send me a screen shot of your desktop to my sourceforge email ctwoodward at users.sourceforge.net and I'll see if that tells me anything, otherwise I'll send you a version with debug turned on and we'll do some logging.
Luke - I've added a line that will fix the pop-up window on machines with the task bar on the side. I'd still like to figure out your other problem before I do a release.
Complete apologies from me, the other problem doesn't exist!! My home laptop also has the task bar on the left hand side so it's the same problem which you sound like you've already fixed.
Thanks for all your efforts and would you like me to download a new version and test it for you??
Cheers
Ha ha - yeah true that, about getting work done ... except when you then get SMSs 5 minutes later saying "WHY YOU NOT MAKE MOVE YET N00B!??"![]()
Luke - New version is up on SourceForge: 2008.4.5
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/wwdb/WeewarDashboardSetup-2008.4.5.exe
thanks a lot will download right now and report back, but i am sure it'll work just fine. thanks
Downloaded and installed, will let you know on the pop up. however, the filename may cause users some grief at the install stage, as unless you know how to rename files at the download point, windows XP and below will not recognise this download as a valid application type. Mine's all installed though, no probs.
cheers for your efforts
whoops, How did I miss that? Thanks I'll fix that up right away. the first .exe shouldn't be there.
Thanks for pointing that out, how embarrassing.
Ok, everything is updated now, web page, new file name, etc.
thanks, all good this end.
Just using the software, and one point, is that why does it open a new browser everytime you click the link to a game?? It would be nicer to have an option to open a new tab. Cheers though, all working
Lukes, depends on your browser settings for themost part, what browser are you using?
i HAVE A PROBLEM WHERE ... oops my bad. I have a problem where it's putting http://www.weewar.com in front of the URL in the pop-up
so I click the link and it tries to load, say, http://www.weewar.comhttp//battleground2.weewar.com/game/63639
Yup, that was weewar.com's problem, the emails were coming out like that too.
they fixed it now BTW.
thanks![]()
I'm still getting the e-mail with the faulty links![]()
umm... just looked at my task manager and it says WeeWarDashboard.exe is using 489,176 K of memory. Could be you have a leak, captain.
I tried previous version and it also has the same problem.
hrmm mine's using between 5000 and 9000KB of RAM, did you use the version you compiled or the one from sourceforge?
new one from sourceforge. I also went back the previous version before my additions and your latest updates and same problem
i did some more testing and if i set my proxy to "auto detect" it chews ram like a starving chiuaua. if i set the proxy manually it's fine. maybe it's an autoit thing?
yep totally autoit (or more likely M$'s) fault, not yours. statically configured proxy = small memory; autodetect proxy = way big large, and bigger each time it checks. can't seem to find anything on autoit support forums... I'll try posing them a question.
