As a notifier user I find the need to unselect 'send email' in each game I play.  It'd be nice to have an option on the account settings page to have that default to unselected for turn notifications

Big +1.  I never use the e-mail alert.

Well, I mean the TURN e-mail alert. I use it for notification of invites, etc. :)

I get new mails, get all excited, feel popular, then I get disappointed when I see that its only a reminder of a turn that I already played like 5 min ago. thats the time I usually go and uncheck the box. You cant uncheck it in your own turn, thats why I keep forgetting it.

Same - I always click end turn, then remember and frantically try and cancel the turn-end or untick the box before the time runs out (normally unsuccessfully)

You can untick it when it's not your turn.  That's always when I remember to do it.

Anyone want a Greasemonkey script for this?

    2007-10-30 21:17:16.0

    that would be useful

Ok.  Here it is with a few notes.  The checkbox to enable emails uses AJAX, so it only needs to be checked or unchecked--not submitted.  With this in mind, it is possible to still have emails sent while using this script.  When you want an email, just check the box and go away (Headquarters, another game, or close the browser).  The script only unchecks the box when you load the page.  If you want to see if it is checked, you have to load the game page.  At this point, the script will uncheck the box and you may check it again.  It's like the light in your refrigerator, just close the door and walk away.  As with the last script, there's a variable you can change to modify the default behavior.
