I think that this is how it should be, so the other units actually get a chance that arent inftanty, heavy infantry, raiders, or tanks.

the ranking should be determined by credits spent on each unit, divided by cost. there's probably room for more math here, but the rest is over my head.

I always thought that its unfair to inclide inf in this, as you need them to capture anyway. maybe dont include inf used for capturing in the count?

    2007-10-19 20:46:04.0

Well, if you spend lots of money on infantry, it's your favorite unit right? If you spend more on tanks, then they are your favorite units. That's what I want.

    2007-10-20 11:30:02.0

Why not display it in a % of all spending? Why only the 3 top? Are we still short on bandwith, re. 9600 bauds era? Is my 20 Mb Hard Drive full? We should have all the information display for all unit types.

Re. I spent a total of $100,000 so far, INF 24% ($24,000); HI 11%; RAIDER 9%; TANK 21%; HT 6%, etc. I can already see the graph, excel type.

hugo: Agreed.  Number purchased, and total credits spent on each unit type, plus averages per game.  And then an account option to hide this info, so as not to give away too much about yourself. :)

    2007-10-20 15:30:52.0

I think you gotta make it  ( expenditure by type / unit cost ). makes for a more accurate value, non?

TallyHo: Just give us all the stats. :)  The term "favourite" is relative.  Favoured to what extent?

    2007-10-20 16:53:53.0

I basically ignore that "favourite units" thing in account info, it is borderline useless for me...

    2007-10-20 16:54:27.0

I might have been misunderstood above, most likely everyone has LInf as favourite units, not because we like em so much, but because we are forced to build them either way. I never liked to build much inf, too much clicking for my taste. Well that was before I discovered the Inf-flood strategy, but anyway, I HAD to build them, otherwise I cant capture any bases. So the fav unit stat is biased by the games needs.

    2007-10-21 03:45:13.0

I agree with pistos. I never look at it and it doesn't really tell me anything. Might as well not be there.

    2007-10-21 04:07:57.0

Er, Tally!  Expenditure by type / unit cost = number of units by  type.

expnditure by type / number purchased ?

    2007-10-21 09:46:32.0

expenditure by type / number purchased = unit cost

    2007-10-21 10:56:19.0

basically, factor cost into popularity. 4(75c) infantry = 2(150c) heavy infantry = 1(300c) tank, so if i purchased that many of each, they should be equal on the favorites list. this is my point, someone else can do the math i say:).

    2007-10-21 13:49:29.0

So.. total expenditure per unit type then?

    2007-10-21 17:29:05.0

    There ya go.

This whole concept of showing favorite units means almost nothing. I build what I can afford and I make units that counter my opponents. If something is to be shown about the player then display the players top 3 favorite maps or top 3 most units built on their recently finished game.

    2007-10-21 23:34:19.0

well, some people like it as a novelty

I once played a game which I was winning, and I also was filfy rich. So during the time I needed to kill everyone, I baught an insane amount of HA to change my stats.

    2007-10-29 05:59:04.0

We agree that the favorite units in their current form are rather pointless. We have considered 3 options:

    a) drop it
    b) leave as is
    c) calculate the average across all players and than only indicate where each play diverges from this average.

For the time being it is a lot easier to fit a or b into our schedules:)

    2007-10-29 20:29:39.0

I think it's not worth spending any time on it, considering all the other todo items I'd rather see implemented. :)  I vote for (a) or (b) for now.  It can be revisited maybe a year from now.

    2007-10-29 20:33:52.0

it really doesn't matter at all. i have yet to even look at it; situations almost always dictate what you should or shouldn't buy. Expecting the opponent to buy a "preferred" and acting proactively is a hard scenario to realize.

    2007-10-29 22:25:14.0

Is a Graph/Pie chat that hard to do? Bill gates said all we need is a 486. Would be need to have a simple excel-like thingy graph.

    2007-10-30 00:15:00.0

Another alternative is to just expose the raw numbers.  Somebody in the community would surely scrape them and provide all sorts of breakdowns.
