We are going to turn off invite-only later today. So anybody will be able to join without delays. It is hard to forsee what that will do to player numbers and traffic. We'll be watching closely with the hand on the trigger to switch back.

So if you have the means to spread the word - now would be the time:)

I've already invited everyone I know who would want to play.:)

The problem, IMO, isn't too many invite-only games. It's too many players that join a multiplayer game and abandon or disappear in the first couple of rounds.

I often make invite-only because I'm tired of new players ruining games for people by A.) Not taking their turn, making everyone wait at least a day before they can play, and destroying the pace; and B.) Throwing off the balance of games when they abandon or have to be removed.

We appreciate this problem and are looking into possible solutions / improvements. I think a lot could be achieved by improving user guidance. Currently new users are left a tad alone.

I would suggest that the problem may lie in people misunderstanding the time limits. It's tough to join a 5 or 10-minute game, but it's no fun when 5 players are ready to go and one player slows down a 1-day/turn game by actually taking 1 day for every single turn.

It would be much easier for people to join 5-minute games if there were a "pause" option, similar to the "draw" option, everyone has to agree to it - but it would simply pause the game until everyone is ready to resume.

bonchon, there are two types of "invite-only".  one is for the entire game itself, ya know weewar.com, and then the other is for each individual game.  i like your idea in your second post, but what you've been talking about is not what alex was originally saying.  just thought i'd try to clear up some of the confusion that i think i see (i was even confused myself for awhile, but i think i'm better now:))

luckymustard, you're right. I was reading Alex's post as referring to the individual games, not WeeWar as a whole. Heh.
