w00t!
Yes please.
alright, looks pretty kickass so far!
cool! please tell me one of the brush sizes is "all" or "entire map"... ![]()
and what does the "no circles" at the top mean? one over the grayed out hex with a tank in it and the other over just a grayed out tank.
I'm going to guess that those are the "delete" keys when you want to remove either a chunk of terrain or a particular unit....could be completely wrong though.
Fwaaaah! Cool!!
very nice, devs. what about starting bases? also, you guys sorted the units alphabetically. what about basic units separated from pro units?
@luckymustard, an "all" or "entire map" seems kinda odd to me unless you have a way to set the boundaries for a mass fill like that. hopefully, there's either a very large brush or drag capabilities for painting.
that's not a preview, that a tease! ![]()
looks fantastic - can't wait.
niiiice![]()
looking forward to it.
Will there be tests on the testserver or is it gonna be integrated in the propper game directly?
@spadequack, on the previous map editor, we first chose the size of the map - 10x10 hexes, 20x20, or 40x40, i think were the three sizes. i almost always chose the largest as i designed the north america, s. america, and earth maps. then you see your 40x40 all gray hexes and the largest brush was a 5 radius. even with that brush it took some time and effort to just get the area filled up with water. i'd rather have one command to fill it all up and then take away the little that i don't need. maybe a 10 radius brush, or even 20 would suffice ![]()

if the units are in alphabetical order, which seems to be the case, then so do the hexes, except for the last one - forest. ![]()
oh, btw, imo, putting them in alph. order does not make sense. the order they are in when selecting units for a new game is much better...
lucky the gray out with the "no sign" are delete buttons. One for the tile and one for the unit. I'm curious if the "delete" tile will remove the tile and the unit.
For initial map layout. It would be cool when you name the map instead of choosing a preselected size, you stated the number or rows and columns of the map. It was a pain having to customize the size. For example "rivermaze" took me 4 steps to get to the size i wanted. I started with medium, expanded via add 4 tiles button, then draw my border, finally click shrink map to tile button.
@alex: sweet.
What does the "two player" dropdown do? I am going to guess and say that you can change the color of the units by choosing a player number.
Where did the player "colored" base tiles go?
i'm guessing the "two player" drop down is something else... since the 2nd player should be red, not yellow
looks great.
When can we expect the map designer to be released? Can't wait.
Its pretty clear to me that the drop down box is to chose whose players units you are selecting. ok the are yellow now, but its just a previev![]()
The order of the units is irrelevant. most maps created wont contain many units.
I agree with mike on the custom map size, even though I never experienced the old editor

Another revision. Should answer some of the questions. There is also an option to use any terrain as a base fill for a newly created map. And yep - this is likely to require some testing on test. Soon hopefully.
cool alex. I like the brush size icons, because they explain that brush size is actually a hex radius. The most common brush sizes I used were 1hex, 2hex, and 5 hex, and not 3hex. I used the 5hex only to fill in large areas of hexes quickly, like a lake in the middle of the map. Is it possible to get a fill bucket to to change the base fill? I would hate to create a map and then have to go back to using a large brush to fill with a new tile or start over the create process. I might be over thinking it at this point.
I'd be glad to help test when the time comes!
I am salivating....
Oooh Yeah, as soon as that one is available for testing you wont see me on the normal server anymore![]()
I'd <3 a chance to test this.
More curious, for me, is whether this will be available to anyone? I never found a way to create maps on the old weewar, is it restricted to you programmers? That doesn't make sense, you could write them directly into the DB... I'm confused about why you even had such a polished old editor if nobody was allowed to create maps >.<
This is an upcoming editor. The old one was a beta that was only available during the June'07 test month. Most people that post custom maps, create them using photoshop or similar program.
I can't wait! My addiction is about to go from merely coke-addict levels to full on crack whore for WeeWar...
I can't can't wait either. I prefer to get an editor with a few bugs earlier then one with less bugs later. There will be bugs you won't find out without testing anyway.![]()
I think jeye is on to something...![]()
ahhh... order to the hexes! tx![]()
Is this going to be a pro-only option?
good idea! pro only!
i think it depends on the number of maps you want to get![]()
i totally agree that it should be pro only - that would be worth the upgrade alone
also, considering how much time the devs put into this mapeditor, its only fair that you'll have to pay for proness to get it.
I am glad you all see it like that. The idea is: Everybody can make maps and play with the Editor. But in order to share or play them you will need to have a pro account. Btw, I think a test is only days away now. Might be as soon as tomorrow. YAY!!
count me in please.... ![]()
Looks good. I haven't had time for weewar recently, just checking it out again today for the first time in a while. Would love to test this.
oh mah gawd.... can't wait
I would also concur with making it mainly a PRO perk. As an acclaimed cheapskate and extremely rare user of any "pay for use" websites I have to say that WeeWar at 2 bucks a month for a year's pro status is a bargain. I only found this game last week and immediately bought a Pro membership for a month - mainly as I had 4 other friends I wanted to try it out with.
Within that week I've gotten hooked and will be extending my Pro status and am looking very forward to seeing WeeWar just get better over the next year. Great job so far guys!
*boner*
LOL. I'm not that excited about it. ![]()
count me in for the test also. :-D
Me three.
Test! Test! Test!![]()
tomorrow is here...
I even tried to access the test server a couple of times today, just in case.... No luck yet...
I am afraid it did not happen. Creating, updating and distributing a lot of images (small preview, large full size view) between several servers - Ideally right when a map is edited - is tricky. We are still busy polishing the whole thing and have to figure out a few tech details. But it is very close!
This is the straw that broke the camels back, i'm going pro.
any word on when we'll be able to test? just checkin' ![]()
Since I was wrong the last time round I am hesitant to give another ETA. Team is slowed down by coughs and sneezes to boot. But soon! Promised!
Nice!
Looks awesome! I'd get a pro account for this ... tho I was planning on it anyway - I'm totally addicted to Weewar
